Just got a Amaze on 4.0, is it worth rooting, etc? - HTC Amaze 4G

Just curious. The phone seems excellent out of the box and normally I'm all for rooting and what not. But wanted to get some opinions on this one. Is it worth it?

I haven't rooted and I haven't found a need to, yet. I probably will when I find an AOSP ROM that I like.
If you want the vanilla ICS look and feel on your home screen, try Apex launcher. It's faster and snappier than using sense.

I would say yes, at the least it will allow you to rid the bloatware you will never use. Unless you use or like the bloat and some of the useless apps put on all phones.

Apex launcher did it for me. Thanks!
I'm actually not concerned with any bloatware, which is only a few programs. Guess I'll be leaving this one alone then.

Anw, it's true though.... So far speed rom has been pretty good for me.
So far so good, except for the occasional force close when I text with multiple contacts

i thought about not rooting either but i was like eh whatever, and gave energy a try. battery life and phone speed is sooo much better. along with the removal of worthless bloat! been using for past 2 months or so and so far there's been absolutely no bugs or problems. so i suggest root!

I've been debating the same idea... I've rooted every android phone I've had..but as of now I dont see the point on this phone besides removing bloat until development picks up a bit..

So no ICS ROM is a working one? Interesting.

All the ICS ROMs are working. Some are works in progress but the ones based off of the latest release works fine. +1 for Speed Rom. Best ROM yet with most of the bloat removed. Something to hold me over until a true AOSP ROM comes out.

I was being sarcastic. We have plenty of working ROMs and he's saying we don't have working ROMs. That's disrespectful to the devs

I broke last night and gave the Speed Rom a try. Very nice!! It doesn't hurt, but it's good to see all that bloatware removed. Rooting was a breeze but I'll hold off on the S-Off for as long as I can lol. Not too crazy about grounding the phone out just yet.
It's only been a day, but I've yet to run into any issues with the Speed Rom and battery life is great. One weird thing though is when I get a call and the phone is locked, I have to unlock the screen to see who it is. Is that normal?

Give or take.
As you can see, I don't really do much on my phone, but this is what I got.

hi i have my moto rooted but not yet unlocked, and im questioning myself if it is worthed to flash cm7 or other rom?
can i get better battery life? or what can i expect?

Expect the best! If you don't need 4g then go for it...and you can always get 4g back if you don't like it or have issues.
Read the thread and you should be good!

OP,
Yes, CM7 is worth it IMO. if you have ran CM7 in another phone, youll be even more impressed with it on the photon. It almost responds faster then my brain does when. milliseconds to open PDf files and apps.
Battery life, yes i do see a GREAT improvement. Joker just released a kernel work for CM7 and will be making further tweaks for Uv that should make it even better! even when i ran it on my EVO, battery life jumped. Yes the photon is already amazing batt life, but CM7 cleans up alota stuff that is really crap in your phone. Im not afraid to travel wo a charger running CM7. on the evo, i would leave for the weekend wo a plug, and this last weekend i did the same thing with running CM7 on my photon.
least try it if you are ok without 4G and share your experience. CM7 is a streamline platform that is PACKED full of goodies. It cleans up your phone and will make it smooth and snappy. It will be a whole new BEAST!
Im glad cybik is with the photon community. his CM7 build is what i have been dreaming for since the day i threw my EVO to the grown.
Honestly, i could careless about ICS with now having CM7. Once team CM builds CM9, if that is ported over then sure as hell ill flash it, but im not a kid waiting for santa now. CM7 has me HAPPY!
disregard post please
^.^ won't work.
CM7 with the new joker kernel works great! It's fast with good battery life. I have no 4G near me (even thought I live in the most densely populated state in the country) so I don't miss it due to unlocking.
do you know if mms and youtube are fixed? and what about being able to use the ext-sd without having to go into CM settings?

Linux3 stock kernel

I have never seen such battery life. What I find weird though is blue tooth was on there previously, and it disappeared. Maybe because the percentage is less than 1%

X2... Is this on an ICS ROM? My computer has Linux kernel 3.2, but GB on our phones is still 2.6..... I ran a couple of those ICS leaks, but never checked kernel version. None of them are stable enough for me, though.
Everything works in CleanRom. I had flashed chad's ICS leak kernel so that I could use no-frills cpu control, but some things got borked. No now I'm back on the one below, which does not support setcpu. Battery life is amazing though. I am going to try and use up my battery today, since I could only get it down to 40% yesterday.

Make sure you show your screen on time next time you post. Your first post did show some good battery life, but I can get the same screenshot with using my stock if I do not use my phone barely at all. These screen shots don't show much. The most important one to show is screen on time.

We have a firmware update from Virgin Mobile. Many users have experienced issues with this, I would recommend not updating. The ADSP.img is what is important for booting the Linux 3 Kernel including with these ROMs, this should be generic between Virgin Mobile and Sprint but DO NOT take my word for it. Chad has a test kernel for those without the new firmware which only breaks 3D and USB Mount/ADB if you want to try it! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1639471

What's everyone's ROM of choice?

I'm not a flash addict, last flashed right after ICS release and looking to have another go.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2
There is alot of personal choice out there. So many good Devs that put out great roms. I would read up on the dev forum on the different offerings each rom has and what your looking for as far as function and blingage
I'm a flash addict so I switch between cm9/cm10 and a deodexed debloated stock...although I'm finding fewer and fewer reasons to revert to stock ICS. (Although I do miss s note)
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2
I am partial to bigfau's {ROM}{& Stock Rooted, Zipaligned, Deodexed & CRTUCLF6} Official ICS, Pure & Odexed ...the "better version".
Why? It's stock with the nicities (?) I want and I can't think of anything that doesn't work.
Fast enough for me, rooted, i can use stock samsung apps like "s note" and calender, and modded tethering for the occasional connection I need.
I've been on this version longer than any other.

It all comes down to user preference
No ROM is better then another
Try them all
Literally lol
There is no disappointment with these ROMs

I'll probably end up going with Black Star V. No particular reason though lol. It was the first one I saw. I just want the bloatware gone. That's usually the first thing I look for. I'll do the Tether Hack and then add themes and I'm good to go. It's already running fast enough for my liking so no need for me to overclock or anything. I'm 100% noob still. I'll actually read them all this time around. When I had my Droid X I was on the same Rom for like a year because it was good enough for me. I'm like if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Look for thread counts and ratings. That tells you what is more popular and so it is an indicator of what is good. Like JayRokk stated, try several and you will see what is good for you.

All I need to know is what does it do.
If it places calls and surfs the web. So did my Nokia. Heck android has file managers! Though seldom in a packaged rom. That's great.

CM9 official is the safest choice for original android experience, just went stable.
Fjmod uclf6 for debloated stock experience, add phmod for galaxy s3 flavor.
Everything else is more or less a derivative of these two. No real difference.
I wouldn't recommend cm10 yet, in a few months it would be THE rom to have however.

Yeah. A killer phone with a PDA. It took forever and a million of us new it was coming 15 years ago... who thought Newton's company would be a major player?
But a killer phone is a must.

[KERNEL][July25] ElementalX & Bulletproof | S2W | DT2W | L2M | BLN + more

Links to my HTC One kernels in the international forum. These both work on the AT&T HTC One, please post comments in the universal threads rather than here.
Bulletproof
Bulletproof is a stockish kernel with added features, meant to be simple and stable.
ElementalX
ElementalX has more performance tweaks and lots of hardware options for those who like to tweak
.
love your kernels. i do have a question, when we flash from recovery what will the kernel build be under about phone? just to make sure i don't need to manually push the boot.img.

It will say 3.4.10-g42e6c45 [email protected]
As long as it says [email protected], you have my kernel installed.
Glad to see you here, Flar.
Using this on CleanRom 1.6 and is working well. Seems to be eating up battery but I think that's my heavy use cause I am loving this phone now

This!
Same position as you, just dirty flashed 1.6 from 1.5 and immediately flashed this kernel after i booted up first.. Seems like my battery is draining bad but idk if its due to new rom, kernel, use, or the fact that i now have 1%battery mod i can actually see the percentage going down lol

Awesome work! I loved PGM on the GNex and this makes me happy haha. I'll chime in with battery life tomorrow. Do you guys use power save?

Yeah i do.. Im going to see what its like tomorrow. There could be a number of reasons why im having issues, if i even am at all. Ill give the new rom and kernel to settle in before anything is fecidee

any chances of you implementing a louder volume tweak into your kernel for incall? the only thing i notice is occasional lag when pressing the back button, sometimes it doesn't respond at all.
My capacitive buttons doesn't vibrate when I press them now...?
How do I go back to the stock kernel?

Reflash your ROM.
That's a known issue with all custom kernels. It only seems to happen to a few people.

I installed BetterBatteryStats last night so I'll chime in tonight. As mentioned before, screen on time isn't accessible on Sense's settings.
