Lot's of dumb on my part, but any help would be great! - HTC Rezound

Okay, I'm pretty sure that the guys at the other forum site gave up on me. Starting to think that I'm stuck with a paperweight that illuminates a white HTC Screen. I've searched every forum and have had no luck, but here goes:
- I'm on day four of intense troubleshooting. Apparently I'm the only person to ever root a HTC Rezound and then flash a new rom using Rom Manager (first mistake).
-I flashed a new ICS Rom using Rom Manager. I did do a backup using Rom Manager and wiped all of the caches before doing the flash. There was no problem with the install, but once I rebooted, the HTC Screen was my only accomplishment. In addition to that, the CWM Recovery Tool did NOTHING.
After reading and reading, I finally realized that only idiots like myself would still be using Rom Manager over Aman-Ra. Therefore, I installed Aman-Ra via fastboot and flashed a few other roms trying to get past the HTC screen... All of this was without any success.
I was told in a forum by someone much smarter than myself that "the easiest way back to a working phone would be to simply install a new rom like: [ROM 7/11 CONROMV5][4.0.3OTA Sense3.6+DeSense][DeBloated Root Aroma Tweaks][CDMA/GSM]." I was next told that "Conrom will deposit the PH98IMG.zip file on the sd card." This never happened.
SO, Here's where I'm ending up:
It does not boot me into Fastboot after ROM install. Instead, It gives me a "Next" button at the bottom with a log that states:
--
-Checking Model ID
-Success!
Model ID - HTC Rezound (Vigor)
-Ok to proceed
Welcome to CONROM V4!!
Installing...
Sense Selected
Sense Extracted
Face Unlock REMOVE Selected
Face Unlock NOT Extracted
Beginning Experimental Security Identification
read_file() loading "/tmp/initrd.img" failed: No such file or directory
When I click "Next" I get another screen that says:
"Congratulations... CON ROM 4.0 has been installed successfully. Press Finish, and reboot your phone. If S-ON was detected, please reboot to bootloader to flash the boot image. Thanks.
It then goes into the regular reboot process. I do a battery pull, press power+vol down and go back into HBOOT, it runs through it's IMG Check and there's nothing there. I then created a PH98IMG.zip file from the boot image inside the rom's zipped folder. Tried flashing that, and I'm still looking at the HTC Screen.
I've gotten myself into tight jams before, but been able to figure it out... I'm just at the end of my rope here. Someone with more intelligence than myself please tell me what to do to get past this and I promise to never assume that flashing a rom to a Rezound is as easy as it was with my Thunderbolt.
Thanks to whomever takes pitty on me, in advance. (seriously, Thank you)

Start over with a stock RUU zip, renamed to PH98IMG.ZIP. Put it on the SD Card. let er run?

You say you can get to HBOOT?
the only thing that generally fixes huge problems like these are to run the FULL RUU (AKA pull a complete stock rom and rename it PH98IMG.zip, enter HBOOT and let it run TWICE!!) and let it reinstall EVERYTHING (including the radios and such.) Then go into the stock recovery, do a full restore.
Then unlock your boot loader and install Amon-Ra, root and flash a rom correctly
{Full RUU here http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...id-4-0-build-3-11-605-22-for-the-htc-rezound/
^ I don't think it is the most recent version, but it should do as long as it is GREATER than the leak you are already on}
Don't try this solution until someone else gives a thumbs up... I don't want to be the one who causes more harm to your phone hahahaha
EDIT: Changed it to PH98IMG, my bad! Should have proof read my post one more time.. Thanks Paulhoop for catching that!

Well he was more complete in his intstructions, but we are recommending the same thing.
However, just want to correct the typo above. PH98IMG... Not PH89IMG
Also not sure about the stock recovery, full restore. But I would let the stock RUU setup run once before going to AmonRa

You have to lock the bootloader first if you want to run the RUU.
First off...you said s-on..
Do you now what firmware you are on? Ginberbread or ICS? If you are on GB you should have installed a SD Card patch as part of your ROM flashing process. If you didn't, that is part of your problem. What happens when you try to flash the boot.img? Do you do it through fastboot? or PH98img file? It sounds like the boot.img is not flashed correctly.

Ok. First off, wow, what an awesome response. I had rooted the phone through fastboot, but was still on the stock GB. I didn't know about the SD Card Patch. When I try to flash the boot.img, I did that by extracting the boot.img from the rom folder, renaming to PH98.img, and running that through the HBOOT Process (I didn't try it with fastboot). The file would update, begin the "parsing' process, and then stop and go back to the basic HBOOT screen. What would be the correct way to flash the boot.img file? What patch should I have installed relating to the SD Card, and is it too late for that?

The boot file should be named ph98img.zip CHECK your named file (PH98.img???), the computer should put the .zip on it. Just be sure its not named ph93img.zip.zip!
The other way, if you're comfy with fastboot commands is to put the boot.img in the same directory as fastboot and type "fastboot boot boot.img" . No its not too late to do the SD Card Patch. You can get it here (among other places), I believe its the 'Old Firmware patch" http://www.androidfilehost.com/main/-Support_Files-/SuperChilPil/ . JUst flash in recovery.
The info for your ROM says that the installer would identify the need for the SD card patch, so maybe it did install it? Won't hurt to do it yourself though. Did you consider a more 'basic' ICS rom, like CLeanRom4.5 or the new rooted 3.14.605.12 one?
I'm on Newt's One xXx, ICS sense 4 rom myself.

Need Help for Htc Rezound!!!

I am a rooted htc rezound user and am in desperate need for help. My rezound is rooted and the bootloader is unlocked. I just recently tried the new ICS (sense 3.5) rom that was released yesterday. Before i used the rom i did a nandroid backup and then a factory reset. Once i was finished with the rom (because of the bugs it carried), i went to restore my phone using the nandroid backup. When the phone booted back up, after it hit the HTC splash screen, it freezes. The phone is still on, but stuck on a black screen.
I have tried everything. Restoring the nandroid backup multiple times. Flashing a stock rom of the htc rezound in the recovery and also (changing the name to PH98IMG) and the tried flashing it through bootloader/hboot. I also took the stock kernel and did the same exact thing. Ive also downloaded the automatic (.exe) RUU update of the stock rom, from Scott's Roms, but that just kept giving me an "Update Fail" message.
Please help me!

No offense, but this is what you get for flashing a leak without understanding the repercussions. Fortunately, you can be helped but in the future it may not be possible to restore to an earlier version if you flash a leak via a PH98IMG.zip.
Several things you and others must understand now that you have flashed your phone via the PH98IMG.zip leak. If you flashed scott's rom of the leak, you are fine and this DOESN'T apply to you.
1) Your mainver was updated. It is possible you WILL NOT be able to EVER use an RUU to restore in the future. The RUU checks for the mainver and if yours is newer, it will error. A new RUU of the official ICS update will probably work, but that could be a ways off and you could be screwed if you need to RUU in the mean time.
2) Since your mainver was updated, the current ways to install kernels that involve PH98IMG.zips won't work unless you modify them yourself. So you will have to install them via fastboot. Some of them are distributed as zImages so you can't flash those anymore without devs updating their tools. It is unlikely that they will, because in order for them to work with your phones, it will update everyone elses mainver when they run the kernel installation and doing that for everyone would be irresponsible.
DO NOT FLASH THIS IF YOU DIDN'T UPDATE TO THE LEAK VIA A PH98IMG.ZIP IF YOU FLASHED THE BOOT IMAGE WITH FASTBOOT OR CLEANFLASH YOU ARE FINE. IF YOU MODIFIED THE android-info.txt YOURSELF BEFORE FLASHING BECAUSE YOU ARE SMART, DON'T FLASH THIS EITHER.
Anyway, to use:
1) Wipe in recovery
2) Format /system in recovery
3) Run your nandroid restore or install a rom of your choice.
4) Flash the PH98IMG.zip from the bootloader.
Restart and you should be OK

As stupid as it was that I installed that PH98IMG.zip without looking further into it, or if I had just used fast boot, or cleanFLASH I wouldn't be in this mess. I mainly blame it on having the Eris, INC1, and INC2 all S-OFF, esp my latest phone before the Rezound inc2, was perma S-OFF thanks to the XTC clip so I could flash just about anything without repercussion. But you live and you learn. The Eris had crazy 2.1 leaks and people got stuck on some bad builds, and not only that they were unable to root when root finally came out, because they flashed the 2.1 leak.. I thought I learned my lesson then but with this I didn't know any better. Learn something new everyday. but I disagree with this part. "It is possible you WILL NOT be able to EVER use an RUU to restore in the future."
Jcase has assured me this is not true.

Sounds like you haven't gotten a hang of flashing a ROM with this device. Try the following.
1 - Download Cleanflash to computer
2 - Download ROM you want to install.
3 - Using a ZIP program, look in the ROM and copy the boot.img file and put in the Cleanflash folder.
4 - Open the back cover, pull battery, wait 10 seconds, put back battery and cover.
5 - Press and hold Vol-, then power for 2 seconds, release power, wait for hboot screen, then release vol-
6 - Connect phone to computer
7 - Make sure HTC Sync is not running on computer
8 - Run CleanFlash and use option 2 to flash boot.img to phone
9 - On the phone, use vol keys to go to recovery (I assume you have Amon Ra recovery already installed)
10 - Follow the menu to mount your sd card
11 - From the computer, your phone's sd card should now show up as a drive
12 - Copy ROM (entire zip file) to sd card, while your at it make sure there is no other ZIP file on the card. You should also mount the internal card and make sure there are no zip files there either.
13 - Unmount the card and disconnect from computer
14 - Now flash the new ROM
15 - reboot phone

Considering I can't post in the development forum yet, I'll try asking here first. I've been reading up for the past few days on flashing recovery and ROMs for my new Rezound, mostly on ADB today to get a feel for the very basics. Right now I'm trying to get Amon Ra onto my device, only to run into the command prompt telling me, "error: cannot load 'recovery-ra-vigor-3.12b-gnm'. The recovery.img is in the root directory where the fastboot and adb executables are located. What am I missing? It's likely a simple fix, but as of yet my searches aren't finding the results I'm after.
Also, when I tried using fastboot to reboot the device to the bootloader (fastboot reboot-bootloader) I got a < waiting for device > message. I ended up just doing a battery pull to get into the fastboot menu on the phone. And as I've seen it asked previously, I did install the drivers when I was going through the unlock process last night. Any suggestions?

Recovery img has to be in the same folder as the fast boot file. Second...you must make sure too add the file ext for that file. Should be .img for a recovery file.

Can i use the PH8 zip to return my Rezound to stock? I am on Scotts leaked ICS rom. It works and all but i want to restore my phone to stock. Im on a Mac so i can't use a RUU. Is there a zip of the latest RUU i can flash in Hboot?
There is a stickied post with the stock vigor RUU's that the phone's came with . Shouldn't have an issue since you used Scott's version he altered the mainver to avoid issues with going back to stock.
Need to relock then run RUU though FYI.. just in case you weren't clear about that.

Bricked phone?

I was trying to install my first ICS ROM and although it said installed, I was never able to get past the 4GLTE boot screen. When I tried to restore my nandroid backup from earlier, it got stuck on the same screen. Now when I press the volume down button to boot into recovery, it asks me to install update (not sure what update????). When I say yes, it installs, restarts, hangs up on the same 4GLTE screen. When I say no, it just reboots. It won't allow me to do anything else? The only thing I can do in the boot area is install/not install that stupid update. How can I even begin to restore something now??
Somebody please help here.
take out your sd card and put it in card reader... another phone... and get the PH98IMG.zip file off the card(delete it). this way you will be able to get back into recovery and be able to flash your nand backup or what ever.
The update is the ph98img.zip file you have on root of your sdcard, delete that and it will let you boot into recovery

Thanks all for the reply. Sorry I was in panic mode after that happened.
Alright, now I'm stuck again. I was able to use my old Bionic and remove the PH98img.zip file from the SD Card and can now boot into the recovery. Unfortunately, nothing I can do now works and I get stuck at the 4GLTE screen every time. If I restore my backup, I get stuck at the screen, if I install the CLEANROMICS.zip, I get stuck on that screen.
I'm also reading about "mainver". I'm coming from flashing ROMs on my OG Droid and I'm not used to the Rezound's process yet. What is this mainver and is that what is preventing my phone from booting normally?
Most likely you need to flash the appropriate kernel. On the Rezound you have to flash a kernel after the ROM. There should be a corresponding kernel posted with the ROM in its thread. I think most of them are posted as PHzip files which you would flash in bootloader. Then after you've flashed you need to delete the PHzip file again so your phone can boot up normally.
Mainver is what version your phone is at, before the OTA it was at 1.x, after the OTA 2.x and some of the ICS roms (and possible one BAMF GB ROM but I'm not positive about that) will put you on 3.x. So if the kernel you are trying to flash is a different mainver than your phone you will get that error. There are workarounds to this. You can either pull the boot.img out of the PHzip file and flash in fastboot since fastboot doesn't care about mainver or you can edit the android-info.txt file inside the PHzip to match your phone's mainver. You can find out your phone's mainver by typing the followig in fastboot
fastboot getvar all
If you do get the mainver error con247 made a tool called Awesome Recovery Tool that automates the workaround. You can find a thread for that in the dev forums. But I think flashing the right kernel will get your phone booting.
I finally got it working, thanks all for the quick help.
You guys rock!

[Q] Stuck in boot loop -- typical fix not working

Alright, so I've got an S-On rooted Rezound and I'm stuck in the boot loop. YES I've read all the posts about logging in and dialing *#etc and also to go into Mobile Network and switch to LTE/CDMA, but I can't dial anything because the phone cuts off before I get a chance, and the LTE switch does nothing. I've tried flashing several different kernels, using the adb method and the PH98IMG methods, I've tried installing several different ROMS, I've done at least 10 different wipes/factory resets, I boot my phone without the cover, SIM card and without the SD card..and I'm still stuck in this boot loop. Someone please help a noob
---- EDIT WITH SOLUTION ----
Here's my "solution" to this issue. I'm sure it's located somewhere in these forums, but I couldn't find it so I imagine others can't either. Essentially, you're going to have to S-Off. Here's the solution:
I believe my recovery started acting funny after I failed to S-Off properly the first time. Amon Ra was all gimmicky and said stuff like "E: can't find cache" and reinstalling the recovery/wiping everything (and I mean everything: external SD, internal SD, cache, partioning SD card etc..) wasn't working. I tried re-installing Amon Ra through command prompt with the adb, I tried reinstalling my ROMS but my phone wasn't having it.
It got to the point all I could boot into was a white HTC screen, so I then tried out Twrp's 2.1 Touchscreen (I wasn't S-Off yet) recovery (I don't have enough posts to post a link yet ) which INITIALLY reported the same "E: can't find cache" errors as Amon Ra, BUT when I wiped my files in Twrp it seemed to actually fix them...I'm not sure exactly what I wiped or formatted that fixed the "E: can't find mount/cache" issues, so try everything.
So my ROM installed but I was still stuck on the white HTC logo. This is where I INSTALLED A NEW KERNEL THROUGH ADB. I wish I knew which kernel I installed, but I have like 10 and I just picked a random one. The point is if you're still stuck at a white HTC screen, install a new kernel.
So I got a recovery on the phone, and then I tried to S-Off again but I didn't have a good ROM installation so that was hanging at the HTC white screen. I then installed CleanROM DE 1.4 and I was able to boot into it, but ran into my initial problem of it crashing after dialing a number and entering infinite reboot. However, it would stay on just long enough for me to run ControlBear's program to S-Off.
So I S-Offed, I downloaded the Gingerbread RUU (the .exe version for Windows), I installed it, and now I can dial numbers and I'm all goodie again. Unfortunately, I honestly think the only way I was escaping my trouble was doing an S-Off, unless they leak a Ice Cream Sanwhich executable for Windows.
TL;DR Install Twerp 2.1 through adb, wipe everything, install CleanROM DE 1.4, install kernel S-Off, run Gingerbread RUU .exe

People say a lot of things are impossible, most have the virtue of never being tried.
This is the one I used to fix mine when I screwed up the partitions on my phone. I will warn you, the link in the thread takes you to another site & you have to sign up to download it. Its completely free & legit, but it won't let you download unless you register which is STUPID!

Let me know if that helps
Oh & BTW I was & still am on the ICS leaks when I did this, so you'll be fine. You will lose everything on your phone though, because it wipes everything. But if you can't use it, that's not really an issue I guess.

The PH98IMG file. And I believe I'm flashing the properly..I do it twice; flashboot in adb, it tells me success, I then flash again right there, and then I reboot back to the bootloader and flash again so I do it 3 times in total.
I'm downloading the Vigor executable now. It's going to take a while but I'll report back with my results.

PH98IMG is not going to help you in this situation. You are going to have to download & run the RUU that I linked in the previous post. Trust me on this, not only have I already tried that before, I've blown my phone up enough times to know.

Ok, I went to use the RUU and at first I got error 150, so I read somewhere I should lock my bootloader, so I relocked and now I get error 140, whcih is bootloader verision error. I think that's because I'm on ICS with S-On right? Is there any ICS RUU I can use to restore my phone? I downloaded Vigor_Stock_Doedexed_3.14.605.5 before but it still wasn't working for me.

And as far as this goes yeah you can't use the .exe if your on ICS firmware with s-on and there are no available .exe's for ICS

Unless you are already on the gingerbread build, and it sounds like your not, if you are s-on, it simply will not work. My suggestion is to download the latest leak and that should get you going. If it were me, and I aleady did it, download the latest leak here: http://android.thesmallprint.org/ICS.LEAK.3.14.605.5_PH98IMG.zip. Rename it PH98IMG.zip and put it on your external sd card. Should take less than 10 mins to download. Reboot into bootloader and let hboot install it. Make sure you are locked or relocked. After that is installed either delete or change the name of that file. Reboot into bootloader, unlock, and install either amon ra or tpwr and you can reinstall that rooted rom.
what he said
mikey's comments just previous are totally right, but after install, i would recommend
a factory reset, maybe even twice.
your bootloop problem should be cured then...
I was on the latest ICS firmware running an ICS ROM when I had to run the RUU I gave the link for & it worked fine for me.
Here's my suggestion & you can take it for what its worth.
I would download the latest HBoot & Radios & flash them.
Then if you can get into recovery, wipe everything, manually wipe the system, boot, etc. Then after that try running the RUU.
I just did this earlier in the week & it worked fine & my phone was all screwed up because the partitions were mounting to the wrong places & just all messed up.
I am by no means a dev or an expert, I'm just telling you what I did.
WHATEVER YOU CHOSE, YOU DO AT YOUR OWN RISK, but I don't see where you really have a choice.
Let me know if I can be of anymore help as I know what its like to have a phone that's freaking out on you. You can PM me or post here which ever you prefer. If after that we still can't get it fixed, we'll go find a dev to help us.

Well now my recovery is saying it can't mount various things like "E: can't mount b dev/block/ blah blah"
And I tried flashing my ROM through Amon recovery but it's saying it can't open the file because it's (bad). I formatted the SD card and I'm still getting the issue. Any ideas?
Did you download the one from the link? You don't flash that PH98IMG.zip in recovery, you boot up into bootloader and let hboot find it. If when you get to your bootloader and it is fastboot, use your volume key and select on bootloader option. Then hboot will find it and ask you if you want to install it. Install it. After that, you will then need to reinstall either amon ra or the other but stay away from clockworkmod. But to reinstall the recovery, you will have to unlock again.

I did install in hboot. I then installed Amon so I could flash the ROM and that's what's giving me all those errors.
If all you are after is stock and rooted, try looking at this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1642217
Since you ran the PH98IMG that I directed you to, you are now on ICS. So follow the directions in that thread for "S-On and ICS".
Installation for S-ON Devices on ICS firmware
•Copy ROM to SD Card AND PH98IMG.zip to ROOT of SD Card
•Reboot to recovery
•wipe data / Factory Reset
•Flash ROM
•Use Developer Menu to reboot to bootloader and flash the boot.img file in the PH98IMG.zip
•Reboot
•Profit!
Edit: The only change I would recommend is to hold off putting that PH98IMG file from that thread on the sd card right away. You will have a hard time getting to recovery if you have that on the card. I would suggest following all the instructions up to and including "Flash ROM". Then I would "return" back to the main Amon Ra screen, make sure you have the data cable connecting your phone to the computer, select "USB-MS Toggle", then select the SD Card, and that will allow you to copy the PH98IMG file to the SD card. Then continue with the rest of the directions. If you do this right, you should be ok.

It's the actual recover I believe to be giving me the errors, but I'll try what you said in about 2 days (I need to study for finals). It might be because I tried to S-Off and I installed all of that guys software and it might be making the phone act funny. I'll be much more descriptive about my errors when I post back in 2 days.
I fixed it!!
Ok, so I finally got it working, I'll try to detail my steps for anyone else who ran into similar issues:

[Q] rezound wont start after flashing roms

Hi everyone, so this is my first post here so please deal with me. I did check for similar problems with no results and think I'm posting in the right area. So try not to get too frustrated with me if I'm wrong. Anyway, with all of that out of the way on to my problem.
I have a rooted rezound, which was first rooted to get rid of bloatware and such, but I decided I wanted to try out some different roms. My problem is every time I flash a rom, which appears successful, but whenever it boots up it'll freeze up on the HTC screen. To fix this I've been just been pulling the battery and restoring to the backup I made before trying to flash roms. I would really like to try some different roms but I've gotten stuck on that screen with each one I've tried. If anyone could help me I'd greatly appreciate it!
Some additional info: I use to have a rooted thunderbolt and have some experience with flashing roms and all that stuff, but I'd still consider myself a noob. I have Amon Ra Recovery on my rezound and the screen in hboot reads:
***Unlocked***
vigor put ship s-on rl
HBOOT-2.11.0000
eMMC-boot
Oct 6 2011, 15:43:22
(I'm not sure why it says the incorrect date and time?)
I've tried several different things to successfully flash roms. I've tried flashing them with and without PH98IMG.zip on the root of my sd. I've tired it with and without the back on my phone. When flashing roms I ALWAYS wiped all data before flashing. That's just about everything relevant I can think of, sorry for the length! I figured the more information the easier for you guys to help!
If you're S-ON, you need to flash the P98IMG zip with the ROM. This contains the boot.img file.
Just extract the ROM of choice, take the P98IMG zip, throw it on your SD card and boot into your bootloader. Go into the bootloader menu and it'll install. Reboot, phone will work just fine.
If there isn't a P98IMG file and just a boot.img file, just push it through ADB while in your fastboot.
command is fastboot flash boot boot.img
So the P98IMG.zip file I downloaded and had on the root of my sd card is different than the one I need to extract from the rom or was I just not installing it right?
I did have a P98IMG.zip on the root of my sd card and I went into hboot, then I went to recovery and flashed my rom. Is there another step I need to take in installing the P98IMG.zip or should it automatically install? Do I need to reboot it between installing the P98IMG.zip and the rom?
Thanks for you help and quick response! I'm really trying to learn and get better at this stuff
After you flash your ROM, go into your bootloader (fully, must be in the bootloader menu) and it'll install. Follow the onscreen instructions, reboot, and remove the zip from your SD card.
Hope that helps.
I still cant get it to work :/
Heres step by step what I did:
1) Went into hboot > recovery
2) Wiped all data
3) Flashed ROM
4) Powered off phone using option in the recovery menu
5) Powered back on into hboot. The green text appeared that said loading and stuff about P98IMG and a blue bar on the side, but this process was very brief (maybe 2 seconds tops) and there were no instructions to follow
6) Went into recovery and rebooted my phone where I was stuck on the the HTC screen again
Can you point out where I'm going wrong or any possible issue?
Thanks again for you patience! I really appreciate your help!

How are you getting to recovery? It should give you an option to install update or reboot in hboot. If the ph98img is in the right spot you shouldn't be able to boot into recovery
With my phone powered off I'm holding down the power button and down volume button to get to hboot. I have my ROM and the PH98IMG.zip file both on the root of my SD card. It does very quickly appear to load the PH98IMG file but returns to the hboot screen the has the options: fastboot, recovery, factory reset, clear storage, sim lock, image crc.
Could it be that the PH98IMG file should be somewhere else? And was I doing everything in the correct order or do I install the PH98IMG first?
File may be bad. Do you have adb set up?

Well actually I'm running off a mac and I've been using my sisters laptop for adb and that stuff but she just broke it...just my luck haha. Would I be able to download a different copy of PH98IMG from online and try that?
What ph file are you trying to flash? It should load it and ask if you want to update. Try downloading it again. May be a bad download
I'm trying to flash the Senseless-4.0.3-ICS-v1.0.0[2/4/2012] ROM (http://themikmik.com/showthread.php?11238-Senseless-4-0-3-ICS-v1-0-0-2-4-2012&p=178493#post178493) and I just saw a download for the PH98IMG file somewhere else on the website. Should the ROM include its own PH98IMG file? Thanks for both of your help! I have no experience with the PH files because my thunderbolt was s-off so i never dealt with this stuff before.

So s-off. Seriously though. You flashed a random ph file and thought it would work? It has to be the right one for the rom. Besides that rom isn't maintained anymore
The only method to get the rezound to s-off was using some wire trick and seemed like a difficult process. Would you recommend I do that?
And the post with the ROM said and ICS PH file would be fine, so I assumed it'd work. I guess I'll try a different ROM that includes a specific PH file and up to date. In which case I should be able to get everything to work with all the help from you and Chyrux. Thanks for everything!

I would recommend getting s-off. It's going to be the only method for this phone. I mean why waste another exploit to be patched? I would recommend con rom since it uses aroma to detect whether your s-on or s-off
Did you s-off your rezound? How were your experiences with it? I'm just worried about bricking my phone. But thanks for the ROM recommendation! I've been trying to find a good ROM
S-off was fairly easy, but you do need Windows or a Linux build.

Please Help Me! Totally Soft Bricked!

I am a complete noob. Sprint Evo 3d 1.5 s-on, I have been running Viper IC3D for a month now, loving it,should have stuck with that. I wanted to try one of the Jelly Bean Roms, specifically the Team D.I.R.T. one, but I didn't want to have to keep flashing the two roms back and forth. Found out about Boot Manager Pro on here, and found a thread about using it with hboot 1.5 s-on. followed the instructions, booted into D.I.R.T. rom. fiddled with it, decided to go back to my phone rom. Boot Manager kept unexpectedly closing on me, wouldn't stay open long enough to do anything. So I went into recovery and restored my nandroid of Viper. But D.I.R.T. loaded! Said screw it, and wiped and reflashed Viper. D.I.R.T. loaded! Couldn't get anything but that ROM to load no matter what I did. Uninstalled Boot Manager, nothing but D.I.R.T.So I hunted around here and found a thread that said if all else failed, to manually remove Bootloader from sd and go from there. Did that, and it soft bricked my phone. I can get into recovery, but no matter what I do when I reboot it hangs in HTC white boot screen. I cannot afford another phone and don't get an upgrade til next year. Please Say there is a solution to this! I cried all last night, couldn't sleep, and I'm crying again. Side note, i accidentally erased half the C; Drive on my laptop trying things I found on another android forum, and system restore didn't work. So I'm back here, and I'm scared to try anything else, but I have to do something. Help!!!!!!
Flash the kernel. All will be well.
Viper rom should include boot.img.
Extract it to sdk-tools folder.
Open terminal, cd to sdk-tools directory.
Hold volume plus down on phone. Hit power button on fastboot option.
Plug in phone to computer. It should say fastboot usb on phone screen now. If not, install htc drivers.
Go to terminal. Type "fastboot flash boot boot.img
Should see some stuff happen on computer screen, phone will reboot.
Do that then report back.

You don't install sdk-tools. It's just a bunch if exe's in a folder.
That other thing you said, never heard of it.

Yes you can, as long as you have fastboot and adb in there you'll be good, just put the boot.img in the same folder

I'm doomed. I was able to flash CWM this way, although it didn't help me at all. But I tried to flash the boot img and it didn't work. Didn't seem to recognize the command.
I'm cdma s-on? So basically you relocked and flashed an RUU and then relocked?
try to relock and flash with RUU it will work
At first when you were unable to boot back to phone rom, you should have went into recovery and flash the update.zip located in the sdcard/bootmanager/phonerom.
Anyway try to flash back to viperrom again then boot your recovery via fast boot since you are not s-off. And flash the update.zip from the phone rom folder. If everything fails just relock your bootloader and use the ruu.exe and you should be fine.

The command is: fastboot flash boot c:\(navigate to the sdk map with boot.img)\boot.img
For instance. for me it's c:\Users\(my name)\boot.img
Because i have my sdk and boot.img in my User map.
I believe boot manager creates the files for the second rom on the sd card. maybe thats why the D.I.R.T rom is loading.. My advice, try a different sdcard and see if the viper rom starts (you still might have to flash the boot.img via adb because of s-on)
I have no idea where the files for second rom are created so maybe if someone else could help out here. Then it should be a simple matter of deleting the second rom from the sd card and then go ahead and flash your viper rom.

Do it! The RUU will save you anyways lol
Should I do the stock ics ota first? I know that will make me hboot 1.58. Can I still HTC dev unlock 1.58? And can I get a new code? Didn't save the old one
Sent from my PG86100 using xda app-developers app
Yes you will have to get new code from htcdev. Though i wouldn't recommend updating hboot cause its known to cause some issues with some roms
