Apple may be better at rolling out new os but I have very little experience with them. I can only go by what I hear. That being said I still won't be buying any apple products. Between my evo 3d, toshiba thrive, desktop pc and my chromebook i'm very happy. I can do so many things apple users only dream about. Yes apple can do some things I can't, not anything i'm really interested in though.
With Apple your forced to wait to get something till they decide you can have it. I like flashing roms and the custom things we can do. I would like to see google make a standard dock for all the different device makers to put into there devices.

Well, I hope they release it soon. I'm already rooted, and downgraded HBOOT, running MeanROM ICS, but I'd like to have the market integration back so I can just charge apps to me cell bill again.

My girlfriends HTC EVO 3D running ICS official Rogers update in CANADA! Has been updated for 2 weeks.

My next phone will be a google branded one. Kudos though to the fine work here on the 3d... Running drop zeros rom, pondering the switch to cm 9 though.. I just hate resetting up my phone. Don't wanna mess with boot manager, heard about too many issues.

HTC should've posted the new release date in the troll thread, amirite?

Dont run CM9 on a slot in boot manager. It wont charge. Use it as the phone rom and itll work fine. Just an fyi if you do choose to flash it.

Cant wait to make a custom rom from the ota.

I am disappointed as well. I want to know that I have the latest and greatest. BUT I have ICS on my wife's Sensation and its no different than Gingerbread with Sense on my Amaze.
I ditched my POS Galaxy S because Samsung did this exact thing to their "flagship" phone and passed on the SGSII because I expected the same crap
At least they didn't say end of 2011 and push it to Q2 like Samsung did for the SGS. I guess HTC still has time :-|

You ditched your SGS because there was no official ICS for it? SMH bro, that phone has one of the biggest developer base, there are like over 3 good 4.0 ROMs over there now. The only reason I left my SGS was because it didn't have the AWS bands
Okay Its going to be the first quarter of the year not December! Second I still think if they are testing it now we could see a release in Feb at the most March. However, The sensation has a lot of Sense 3.6 roms with ICS. I tired porting one but I failed at it. Maybe we shouldn't wait until OTA and just figure out a way to port one of those roms.

I heard the HTC ICS update will still be with Sense and will pretty much look the same. The Amaze has buttons so there won't be the newer Honeycomb/ICS soft buttons on the bottom. I'm using ICS on my Moto Xoom and the swipe to dismiss notification window and swipe to dismiss task switcher are nice, but otherwise ICS is not much different on the surface.
Soooo what is the big ICS feature members of this forum are wanting for the Amaze? I'm not understanding the disappointment. Please help me out.

Well if it is true then we might see a leaked final a few days earlier if we are lucky.

I have not flashed the leaked RUU yet either. I learned my lesson with leaked software about 2 years ago when a leak for Eclair came out for Eris.. We all flashed it and then we were all stuck there for like 6 months, until someone figured out an exploit that allowed us to finally move on to the official update.

Not that I advocate going with the leak at this point (assuming this post is accurate), but I can't imagine HTC would release an OTA with a lower version than the leaks.
I'm a pretty firm believer that the leaks are really just betas, and we are their testers. They get a plethora of bug reports, free development, and make their most finicky customers happier with their products through 'leaking' us the goods!
I certainly hope so anyway. But if not, I'm very happy with the current state of the Rezound.
I hope the leak we just got wasnt the final. Needs more work IMO..then again we got devs to fix htcs screw ups. Will be nice to have source for kernels.

Only thing lacking, IMO, is how buggy the clock speed jumping around is; which should be kernel-related.

[ICS] [Update?]

This may be a noob question, and I am sorry for it, but say the Thunderbolt does get the ICS update...
Am I going to have to unroot my phone and install the OTA to get it and then wait for another rooting method, or can I keep my current root and just wait for a ROM build from ICS?
Or am I just being retarded?
Because ICS is Opensource the source code would have to be released by HTC to run on this phone. I would say that there would be a market of modded roms to choose from.
Tbh it feels like HTC is afraid to release ICS knowing that their source code would have to be released. I think they probably see that as a loss of control over this product. From what I've seen there aren't many differences between their phones besides software and open source is a nightmare for companies like that. Why would we upgrade phones when we could use this rom with that phone's features. An example is the source wasn't even out for the Galaxy S III and someone already posted S-Voice to the Nexus S 4G. See what I mean. This is why I'm skeptical about them releasing ICS for these phones.

Either way will work.
Here's my opinion FWIW, I don't want the OTA update when it comes because VZW has already stated it will have Sense 3.x so it'll look and feel much like your current software. I'll wait until the devs have created ICS ROMS with Sense 4.x and try one or more of them.
NOTE: none of the above means your not being retarded, ask your wife for that information! <G>

I wasn't wanting to take the OTA either. Rather, I was wanting to wait for an ICS ROM as well. I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't have to unroot to upgrade it to a 4.x based ROM, then reroot.

Has anyone thought that maybe these are just PR people that have no real idea what's going on behind the scenes with their developers and are just looking at a list of devices that are still on the list against devices that are confirmed to be cancelled?

Update on Jellybean

Looked at the Sprint Community Forums and there was this user (crfinaz1) that went to a Sprint tech store in Arizona and met and HTC rep. According to the rep, it was supposed to be released on the 27th, but HTC sis not like the mods to the new UI in Sense. The OTA was sent to some random users but it was quickly pulled off because of the mods that HTC didn't like. According to this user, the update is coming out this Sunday, (12/2/12).
I an highly doubtful that this will happen on Sunday, but we all have our fingers crossed for this update to come out. And I think its pretty hilarious that we might get the update before the AT&T One X does . Justifies that Sprint is great at updating if we get the update on the second (first one for the GS3).

Pretty much this. I had been thinking about going with a pure Jelly Bean ROM, but figured I'd patiently wait for Sprint/HTC to release it. How long do you think it'll take to root it when it gets released? LOL
Already using JB, Ran away from Sense to (what I really hated before) CM to fix multitasking, and now cannot bring myself back to Sense. But CM10 lacking proper camera drivers, and has a bit more weirdness. Not for everyone, that's for sure.

Kind of same here. It's the "multitasking" that's killing my urge to stay on Sense. But as an interface, I like Sense more than CM10. So yea, at least I have an option to run Sense, unlike with Nexus.

Have you tried the multitasking fix? It makes things a lot better. Not perfect, but a hell of a lot better.

Exactly how I feel I just love the little features of sense 4 to much to lose it.
I had the nexus s 4g before this and always ended up trying to duplicate the sense widgets and ui smoothness and always ended up with an itch that aosp just couldn't scratch.

Jewel getting 4.2.2 Sense 5 per Twitter

Saw this on Twitter and figured I'd share. Most of you know Football is almost always accurate so this gives me hope I'm hopping on the One next month and giving my Evo away so just sharing this for kicks.

They're doing everything they possibly can to keep step with Samsung so I can see it happening.. HTC is in full on desperation mode and I like the results of it so far

Of course i hope they do but naturally with htc i have my doubts
If this happens I will be very happy with the support this device has received over the last year.

Good news for sure.... Correct about football though... Almost always is key word in statement... He typically nails software related items so I'd trust this.... He was off on the One hardware as he stated no new Qualcomm snapdragon chips in development by HTC a short while ago... Somewhat easy to be fooled on that front less u have the device in hand though....
I'm more interested in timing of OTA than anything else regarding this new development....

I would like too see a OTA timing as well. Football is very good person and usually gets his hands on everything before anyone else can. Sure do miss him. He did a very good job posting the leaked firmwares . wish he could post the official current firmware right now with signed exe
Good news. I would think the ONE would get updated to 4.2.2 before Jewel. Regardless, HTC really needs to get their hands dirty this year for sure.
via eVo.
Pretty sure we're getting after the one does.

Sense 5 doesnt come with 4.2.2, its 4.1....but im sure this is talking about a future update rather than the first version of Sense 5, although I cant see HTC keeping Sense 5 but updating the android version, Im sure they would throw out something like Sense 5.1 or something with it
I'm running viper 3.1.4 and have used CM10.1 version 4.2.2 and i think viper hands down is better, unless I'm missing something here, i think the evo is still at its peak running the right rom and kernels.. And I've looked at the new changes to sense 5...Don't like tiles.

The first version of an official OTA that has sense 5 for this phone will deff include 4.2.2 at least... Will come after the One gets theirs but fact is its coming regardless...
