I9100XWLPM (4.0.4) - Russia (SER) on I9100XWLP7 - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have rooted my phone today (woop woop what a difference) and I'm looking now for non branded firmware ICS 4.0.4.
In Original Android Development group there is I9100XWLPM (4.0.4) - Russia (SER). Do you think it will work on my I9100XWLP7 (UK Three network)?
Thanks
Karl

Nah
My opinion? Stick with 4.0.3, the leaked 4.0.4 seems to have caused nothing but trouble.

Its personal choice if you want 4.0.4 have a look here http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&t=1&o=1&m=GT-I9100&r=1#regiona
Open Europe version (includes UK) is LQ5 from the latest release list about 4 down from the top, I have it on mine and it works fine, just downloaded it and flashed it over my rooted 4.0.3 version without performing any wipes of Dalvik or doing any factory resets.
Then rerooted with ICS - CF-Root v5.5:LQ5 from Chainfires thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399 post 8
I have not found any problems with version of 4.0.4

You have been fortunate to avoid the circumstances where there is a possibility of hard bricking your phone. (which admittedly isn't too hard, but still)
FYI - see here.

Thanks, just had a read of that, I flashed across on 4th July but I don't have stock kernel currently has the CF Root kernel (not bothered about the yellow triangle) but am going to chnage it ti Siyah Kernel when I get round to it, if I get any problems will let you know, but no laughing.

Siyah isn't 100% working on that Rom. Bluetooth, Video playback, camera preview and connecting to USB isnt working with all other non Stock kernels.
Just to save you the trouble I have literally tested all the kernels today and none of them work correctly at the current moment

If you flash XWLPM DON'T wipe data/factory reset, it can cause your phone to hard brick it can damage EMMC chip and only way to fix is a new board apparently!
I'd stick with XWLP7 from what I've heard there's no significant difference on LPM.

Only if you wipe via CWM mate, stock should be fine.

[Q]S2 baseband for 4.0.3

Well, i've seen in sammfirmware that there is 4.0.3 updates for s2, but the isnt an update for my baseband type, my baseband is i9100xxki4, and i would like to put 4.0.3 on my phone. What could happen if i update my phone with a 4.0.3 version that isnt for my baseband? Or what can i do to get 4.0.3 on my S2?
Thanks in advance.
If you're asking these kinds of questions, you shouldn't for a moment consider putting it on your phone. Wait for an official update (it's not official nor stable, yet).
No official release, you will need Flash either a stock leak, or a custom version based on the stock leak.
For stock version you will need to flash via Odin.
Check out the general section for those or android development section for user modified versions.
I suggest you do some reading as I don't think you fully understand the basics.

i know i would have to flash via odin, but the official release of 4.0.3 for s2 has been dated for march and i dont want to have to wait so long

Just wait or try out a leaked build. We are all in the same situation nothing we can do but wait until a near official build is leaked or until Samsung push an upgrade via kies.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
Instead of jumping straight to beta roms, i suggest reading and start off with some customised stock roms. Once your abit more comfortable then proceed with caution. Some of the ICS builds are unstable.

I already have a custom rooted kernel. But i was asking if flashing a 4.0.3 that is not for my PDA( I9100BGKJ3), can do any damage to my phone.

No it won't do any damage, you can flash any i9100 firmware on an i9100 device. But i do recommend you do some reading as I don't think you fully understand the process.
There are chances something can go wrong so ensure you have a full nandroid and backup your efs.

ok so if i update mi i9100 with any i9100 firmware, no damage can be done? then why is there like a thousand i9100 versions of each version of a firmware? like for 2.3.5 android, there are 20 versions for i9100. I dont really understand why there are so many versions then

They're updated android versions, the most latest being 2.3.6, before that was 2.3.5, before that 2.3.4 etc.
With each upgrade brings new roms, countries get different releases, like LA2 from Italy, is the newest 2.3.6 rom. Before that was KL1 also based on 2.3.6.
Do you understand?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
well... not very much actually xD, if you could explain a little bit more i would apreciate it
Google release incremental updates to the aosp base. For example Apple releases iOS5 and later fix something and pack this into iOS 5.0.1.
Similar to android gingerbread started of as 2.3, they added things etc and now we are upto 2.3.7.
Manufacturers customise the Android versions with their own user interface. With samsung using touchwiz. The most latest version is 2.3.6 from Samsung.
Now Samsung publish updates to different regions. LA2 is the latest 2.3.6 version from Samsung which was Italian phones. Now we can all use this firmware as its for the same device.
Each new build that is released Samsung will change something or it'll be the same version just repackaged for another region, Samsung don't release changelogs so we don't know what's changed until users notice something different.
Before 2.3.6 it was 2.3.5, etc.
Honestly just read the stickies and forums you'll figure it out.

I agree to all others warning you about flashing a new firmware (especially a beta version) as long as you are not absolutely sure about what you are doing. However I can try to answer your question by the experience I made.
I flashed the I9100XXLP2 (having baseband LP1 if I am not mistaken). I then had big difficulties getting a stable and reliable data connection. I was able to solve this problem by flashing just the baseband back to version I9100XWKI1 which I knew was working.
So from my point of view and from what I experienced I could answer you question like this: if the baseband does not work, use the last one you know was working.
Which is the baseband? Csc. Pda. Or phone? Ive already flashed 4.0.3 by the way. Only a few issues with the radio. Gps.... Etc but for the rest its fine.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
The baseband would be the modem which can be flashed to whatever you want so you get a stable data connection
I will have to agree with the rest seems like you have no idea on how roms/kernels/modems work so if i were you i'd wait for an official release or you can start reading on how flashing works and related stuff

[Q] Correct XXKI3 ICS upgrade?

Hi all,
Newbie here.
When I first bought my SGS2, every time I had to set it up, the default language was in French (prior to touching the android in the initial setup screen). Didn't check the phone details (baseband info) at that time. I then rooted it and installed CM7 using the procedure in their wiki. Prior to release of ICS, I decided to get it back to stock. I noted the baseband only at this time which showed as XXKI3 under CM7. Looked for stock ROM but Intratech's link was down and CheckFUS didn't have any info on XXKI3. I noticed the XXLPQ ICS ROM was available so decided to install it using Odin3. Language at initial screen was again in French. Everything seems to be working fine (2 days now).
My question: is this (XXLPQ) the correct ICS ROM for my phone?
Also, did I interpret the baseband information correctly, i.e. any ROM with the same first 2 characters (XX in my case) are compatible and refer to the same region? What does the last 3 characters stand for?
XX = Europe
U can also run other basebands
Here is the stock rom: http://hotfile.com/dl/130600675/d481a34/I9100XXKI3.rar.html

[Q] Newbie --India --Three Network mobile -- Basic Questions

Hi All,
I bought a used galaxy S2 I9100 yesterday, new to android.I have been a iphone user for 4 years and pretty aware of jailbreaking, unlocking installing custom firmwares. the terminology here in Android world is different though.
Have searched and read through different guides on the forum but still got some questions.
Model GT i900 LKAH3G
PDA i9100XWKE1
CSC I9100H3GKD4
Kernel 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKDD-CL161513 [email protected] # 2
Build Number GINGERBREAD.XWKE1
Looks like it was on Three network but it is unlocked mobile as i can use my airtel sim on the phone.
I dont want the Three network related stuff on the phone so i need to debrand the phone -- how to do it? there is guide on XDA forum but it talks primarily for O2 phones or might be i did not read it correctly. (there are also some options like the network mode which are disabled on this ROM )
Once debranding is done should i be ok to use any ROM or kernel?
Which would be best ROM to be installed and will it work for me in India.
Can i install the custom ROM and would i be able to install apps from the android Market.
If these have already been answered , can you please provide the link for that thread.
Thank You
I'd advice you to try the new ics roms, you can find the instructions inside the various rom threads, flashing these roms will get rid of the three junk as well as update your phone to the latest android os a.k.a ICS ..........
there is no such thing as a best rom for a specific country, but you can try different modems to find the one that gives you the best network and battery, you can find your modem under the baseband in about phone....
google for more info
happy flashing and welcome to Android we luf you here...........
Learn how to use Odin
Download stock gb from from checkfus or sammobile.
Flash using Odin, you will be unbranded.
After that root using cfroot, now learn how to use cfroot.
Now you can flash custom roms.

forget about csc.
if you have i9100 you can flash any region ROM and use in any country.
if you want Gb than go for la2 italy rom , iv used that and last time i check that was the fastest stock rom for GB
you can also flash ICS rom like uk lp7 too, just stay away from lp9 roms at the moment.

go for anything above LPQ on the sammobile firmware list ...
or pick anyone from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487.
Thank you Zac and Atif.
I have tried to do a factory rest from the phone's privacy menu but even after everything is done, istill see some files in the gallery.
i tried the code *2767*3855# everything goes fine but i see the message "cant access to system\csc\h3g\system\" and then the phone strats as normal.
can i flash it to the OS even if i am getting this message using odin or do i need to
do something before i flash?
factory reset will not delete your user stored data on the SD card...that can be manually deleted...if you want
you can flash the OS from ODIN
thanks for the responses.
I have upgraded to I9100XWLP7_I9100XEULP, and its working fine. the only problem seems to be its heating a bit where the camera is located . will read more topics and see why this is happening.

Yes though the newer dxlp9 was much better, previous one had bunch of issues including sleep of death.
Also that ROM introduces the contact/dialer lag bug. Which some how got to Google account and now every time I sync contacts it get back.
I deleted all my contacts and synced again and it's all better, tried on dxlp9 and was working fine, than I switched to my regular cm9.

[Q] SOD on stock XWLP7 - what ROM to switch to?

I'm running:
4.0.3
I9100XXLPS
[email protected] #3
IML74K.XWLP7
I am getting a lot of Sleeps Of Death. I'd like to see if another ROM, or perhaps just another kernel, could get rid of it.
I've read a lot on the forum about the different ROM options, but nothing authoritative on whether any ROMs are SOD-free on the S2. Could anyone suggest a ROM to try, or - could I get by with just flashing a new kernel, e.g. Siyah? I am semi-noob so I don't quite know whether it is possible to put just a new kernel on top of what I have.
Thanks!

Thanks! I had looked at Siyah but wasn't sure - you have confirmed two things for me: 1) it works with the rest of the stock ROM components, and 2) at least you don't have SOD (I know, no guarantee I won't have them, but I'll give it a go).
As soon as I've had the time to flash Siyah and see if it gets rid of the SODs, I'll report back here (it'll be a couple of days). Thanks again.

[Q] Bell I9100M - Question

Hi guys... tried searching hi and low for the right answer, but didn't get one definitive enough. Bare with me, I have a Galaxy Nexus, but am helping out my wife here who has an i9100M.
First off, I'm well aware of how to use ODIN and the like (as I previously owned the original SGS), so I don't need help with that.
Now.. on to business:
The stock firmware for the i9100m via KIES is 4.0.3. I've noticed that this firmware causes the phone to freeze up at times and she's telling me she didn't experience that under Gingerbread.
So I know there are a whole slew of stock 4.0.4 firmwares out there, unbranded UK's and the like. Just wondering, based on your experiences, which PDA, PHONE, CSC combination for a 4.0.4. rom works best with the i9100m?
I'm aware that I will lose the 'm' designation... not too concerned about that... just want this phone to be smooth as it once was without the lockups but maintaining ICS. Hopefully 4.0.4 actually eliminates that.
Again, I'd prefer the stock firmwares if thats an option.
Thanks guys.

You need to read this first about ICS 4.0.4 stock firmware
Thanks, but I'm guessing that had to do with people flashing a new .pit which I never do.... Unless I'm wrong.
Personally I find stock roms not as smooth as custom roms.
If you're willing to try out custom roms, I'll recommend RootBox. Very stable and smooth.

EDIT: Sorry, just realized you were looking for stock firmware. I have a i9100m as well, used XXLPJ to restore my phone when I got stuck in a boot-loop. Didn't really play with stock rom that much, went straight back to custom roms and flashed XXLQ5 modem. I'm with Rogers btw.
Ya I know Stock Roms usually aren't as smooth.. I just find the Stock Firmware, with the Stock recovery, the safest.... And seeing as I don't want my wife yelling at me.. I'd rather it have a stock experience without the lockup/freeze she is now constantly experiencing.

Thanks, but I'm guessing that had to do with people flashing a new .pit which I never do.... Unless I'm wrong.

So even rooting with a STOCK insecure kernal would have bricking issues?
I've never used CWM and don't plan to.

If you want to Root, use this method
Remember: you must never wipe or backup rom in CWM recovery!

Ya.. thanks.. like I said.. I only use the stock recovery... I never understood why people used CWM recovery.. even on my old SGS.
Thanks for the info... hopefully that ROM you suggested works well here in Canada.

Read that Warning thread I posted to you earlier. Read everything there, it's very important. The only way to stay 100% safe is by flashing a custom kernel.
From what I read, flashing a stock or insecure stock kernal (to root) is the only safe way. Especially in that Nordic firmware thread you mentioned.
Either way, going to try it the insecure kernal root. If it bombs, it still has warranty.
Well as suggested in this thread (thank you) I have installed the latest Nordic ROM (I9100XWLPX) and so far things are fantastic.
I ran the 'Have Brickbug?' app and my wife's phone does show the warning, but ran it anyway... even went as far as clearing cache and wiping in the stock recovery after install just to see if there would be an issue and there wasn't.
I haven't rooted the phone.... yet.... and I may not have to... afterall, its my wife's phone and she doesn't use it the way I use my Nexus. That might change in the future, but with this UNBRANDED ROM, there is no real bloatware, and most of the things I don't want can be disabled anyway.
Time will tell if there are any issues... but thus far no freezes or lockups.
KIES did screw up the back up of her memo's and settings which she is slightly peeved about (wouldn't restore them), but oh well.
Thanks for all the suggestions and help.
Question though... If official Jellybean comes out for the Nordic region, will this 'frankenstein phone' receive an update via KIES? I don't plan on using the OTA update.
