whats up amaze community, its been a while. some of you know me but im sure there are plenty of new faces. anyways i dont have my amaze back yet should be getting it back tomorrow but i cant wait to get caught up with any new advances that have been made since i've been gone! quick question, im sure most of you remember the petition i started to try and get htc to release the source for the drivers we needed, my question is i see that we reached our goal, so do i still need to email it to them or did they finally give us what we needed. let me know, thanks guys.

Lol, well, i see things here in the amaze forums haven't changed much at all haha. well i just got some very unfortunate news that ruined my day. the place that was holding my phone "supposedly" sent me a letter (which i never got) saying i had 30 days to come get it or it would be "destroyed".. seeing as i was gone for over 60 days, well, you do the math. gues imm not back after all

Thanks man, i wish i could but like i said, i'm unfortunately out of work right now so can't really buy a new phone. plus, i would have a really hard time leaving htc, i love em too much, and havre never been much of a fan of samsung.
I was lucky enough today though that i found my old Amaze, it has a shattered screen, but still works perfect... for now..

yea and samsung phones make you feel stupid when you go from an htc phone to a samsung especially when dealing with kernels (at least in my experience)

I was wondering the same thing.. part of what makes a device fun (for me) is the ability to satisfy my urge to tweak it, flash it, and all that crap.. I miss flashing new stuff every couple days..
Although, to be fair, this device is pretty damn slick out of the box..
still.. I'd love to have something to flash .. I'm not gonna root till CM7 is available and stable.. heh. (reminds me of zanderman and the Epic)

It will. Our phone is so similar to the Atrix that they will be able to help as well. I am not getting into the hype of the SGS2. Will be a great phone but the Photon is much more of a power house. We have only just got source. Once AOSP gets ported things will be lovely.

I agree with u. I'm sorry. I had an evo4g and the 3d just doesn't live up to its predecessor. The photon was just the better choice
I wish there was an online school, maybe run by the devs, to give guidance on how to create roms and kernels. I know there are forums with directions, but allot of it I just don't understand. Unless a dev takes you under his wing and explains it to you, it is very difficult to learn. Maybe some type of online chat and examples, and there would be a membership fee to attend. This way the devs would be compensated for their time. If there were say hundreds people enrolled, the cost would be minimal. Just thinking out loud. Wish I new more so I could help the community. I have already learned more about it than I ever thought I would, do to lack of development with some of the phones I have chosen. Either way, I'm keeping this Mopho!

Thanks Shabby, the one thing I miss from my Epic is the SFR Rom, still have the ACS updater app (though nothing to download lol). And Bricky, I am totally with you. I don't consider myself stupid (heck I run a QA group), and have been working with MS products for longer than I care to admit, and I even bought the
"Android for beginners", which is ok, but there is alot to consume, it would be great to have a mentor. I'd love to help out, hell I'd be happy to test ROM's, the more knowledge the better.

Ahh no kidding, yeah that would drive me friggen crazy. Well its definately worth the wait man. Ive always been an HTC guy, and coming from an EVO 3D, I can say im totally impressed. Def the best ive had yet.

could you buy one on a new contract from amazon for a penny then terminate the contract? It would basically cost you a month of the most basic service and $350.

There are times I think they think it's a game with us.. I follow htc and several devs on twitter and occasionally when the devs tweet about wanting source I have noticed semi sarcastic responses from htcs twitter account.. Which is funny to me, but i think it's a bit rude as well..

Actually yes.. Said something to joelz about it and some d3rps are on board, it mostly depends on if someone cracks the m14 or whatever it is in the sense 3.5 fusion.. Currently there is no way to edit it.. And that's where most theme elements lie..
Things are good though. Busy. Haven't themed anything in like 2 weeks, mod life picking up without root being gained and more users getting restless..

that and they have a much bigger dev coummunity!! SGSII on t-mobile basically swayed many many more people towards it than the amaze, they both came out at the same time...if the amaze would have been released on a different date we would see a different dev community. rezound also has more bling with the beats audio, so more people buy it and it has a 720p screen, same camera as the htc amaze...its a better version of our phone...If I had the money to pay monthly for the verizon plans I would have def gone with the rezound over any phone. I think it's the best phone on the market right now. IMO amaze is the best phone on t-mobile right now.
I think the amaze is sexier though. Lol, freakin rezound man =[

I know this question wasn't directed toward me but I'll answer...
I came from a Blackberry and the Amaze is my first android phone. First day I got it I was hooked and did tons of research on Rooting it (didn't even know what rooting was/is)
Totally hooked now, if I knew about the whole ROM/rooting thing before the amaze, I probably would have went a different route, with a different phone that had more devs.
Ah well, patience is a virtue. Whatever that means!

I understand. The ''hold up'' that HTC has caused with the not releasing source, S-on, etc will pass. When? If HTC keeps it's word and update the Amaze this quarter with ICS, that will definitely breath new life into development.

I had I a mytouch slide, but I began hacking and stuff when my mom wanted froyo on her g1. I liked android soooo I got the slide. After like 9 months the slide began to give me problems, like whenever I slide out the keyboard the screen would get screwed, the volume keys were broken don't ask me why, oh, and I was in my car and it fell on a plastic cup with water. I got the amaze after like 2 weeks after its release, I've watched its development grow

I don't know about that man... Were you impressed with HTC's 2.3.4 with Sense 3.0 for our Amaze right out of the box? 'Cause I wasn't
The only good thing I can see about HTC releasing ICS is so our devs here can use that code to make better custom ROMs since we have no support from CyanogenMod

Coming from the sensation, let's just say my expectations was not met in regards to Sense, but I knew this before I bought the device. That being said, this device is what the sensation was suppose to be in terms of sheer power (1gb RAM, S3 1.5 snapdragon, 2.2 camera sensor, etc.) I'm convinced I made the right decision, HTC just dragging thier a**!

I came from the Hero which had lots of devs, cm support and a great and supportive community. I have to say that I haven't found the Amaze community to be as welcoming and helpful. Half the responses to questions are "do a search." I know I'll get flamed for saying this but I suspect that I'm not alone. I love the Amaze, but I'm beginning to feel like I've chosen the wrong phone.
I really hope that when ICS source is released dev takes off and I'm proven wrong.
Maybe I'm just in a bad mood right now.

I hate TouchWiz too, but even back then when I ran stock on my SGS I just used a third party launcher over it and it worked well... You shouldn't let TouchWiz be a deal breaker for you, especially since you could replace the whole Samsung framework with CyanogenMod

I agree. The Amaze community is somewhat hostile and counter-productive. I know a few devs that I talk to often that feel this way as well. While the redundancy of certain questions can be answered but simply searching, 5 individuals saying search could be avoided if only one of them actually answered the question IMO.
Realistically, I see "do a search" more than I see the actual question being asked or answered.

I love the Amaze, but I'm beginning to feel like I've chosen the wrong phone.
I really hope that when ICS source is released dev takes off and I'm proven wrong.

The reason why we say do a search is because we have 3 threads that are stickied. We have been received the same questions over and over and if you look at these 3 threads, it should answer your question. If it doesn't, then make a thread about it.

There should be no reason why you should ignore it. I spent time and effort searching through the whole forum of questions so I can make my FAQ thread. If I did that to make life simple for people, they should atleast take the time to look through it. We put our time and effort to make life simple but people do not choose to read, which aggravates us.
Sorry for sounding like a jacka$$, but I am simply trying to show you why we tell people to search. If they just look at the stickied threads, they will save themselves time as well as ours.
For those of you who havent been on android-dev lately, we have someone who has ported the ruu from the htc one to our amaze. Hes having trouble getting the kernel working thats it! Can't wait, just thought id share.

Well if he can convince fraux to lock himself in a closet till he builds it we might get a semi-working build in about a month. Building that is really hard. At&t galaxy s2 still dont have ics because of it and they have some beast teams working on it from month/s so dont get your hopes up. I think that our best bet is when htc release 3.6 for us the kernel is compatable. Im not saying that fraux is bad at building kernels im saying that its really hard. Plus we dont even have wifi drivers so pray to whatever you pray to/make blood sacrifices/rub someones belly etc for HTC TO LEAK THAT ICS RUU

True..but the ROM has never booted yet. He made some changes to the build.prop thus far but has no way to test anything until it actually boots. That was posted a couple of days ago, so hopefully progress is being made!
I give this a few weeks until it actually boots I'm amped!!!

There should be absolutely no negativity towords any ones effort to try and compliment and/or further the development of our amaze which is already limited....

I wasn't trolling i was waiting to see how long it was going to take to make it to XDA, i just thought that it would be a little bit faster. I was saying this was on Android-Dev site for a while now not trolling on other devices as it still is the amaze. So don't get an attitude with me, i just thought it would make it on XDA a lot faster like everything else does. I have seen you cuss people out on 4-5 General post here trying to bring back up topics that are hidden the bowels of XDA forums that might be important in the coming weeks.

I think its interesting never said I had a problem with it so let's not put words in my mouth but the dev who ported said he wanted it exclusively android dev on the orginal forum which was what I was hinting at but take it the way you want to I could give a _ what other people think or say

Wrong! He never said that! He said that he was going to put it here when it actually boots, some one else suggested that it was only going to be there and he said "mabey" but trust me he will post it, if not ill post it on the "HTC Amaze everything you need to know" thread

with the FINALLY released source does that mean we have a good shot at true aosp(cm9/10, etc etc etc)? i know its been elsewhere(question that is) and as some of you know Ive been very sick over the past few months. For those I havent told its cancer...Im gonna beat it though. but please dont beat me down for this as i know I am a senior member and the less stress the better.

That's the idea... although I think the wifi driver source may still be an issue... but I think I read that sportstar found some files that might relate to the wifi so hopefully he's on to something for u guys...

GG - Just wondering, did you root your One S with my toolkit?
I'm never going back to amaze. Gave it to my nephew... but I like a lot of the members here so I lurk and chime in here and there. I'm still here... my one s is running cm9 as my daily driver and we just got a jellybean port from nexus 7 so I'll be OK there
@ hasoon I did not use the toolkit... I for some reason find it very simple to root since its the identical process with the amaze. I unlocked and rooted using fastboot... makes me feel like I know something about what I'm doing lol
