No LTE in Houston - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

So since everyone else has started their threads on LTE in their area I decided to start my own on why I cannot get any what so ever. I am truly disappointed as j waited for July 15 just like everyone else yet failed to receive any 4G. I have updated my prl my profile rebooted my phone even hard reset it all to no avail. It makes me wonder am I the only one without any LTE. I live by the I10 and 610 intersection. Your responses will be greatly appreciated!

LTE live on the northeast of Houston
Sent from my HTC Evo LTE

LTE live at hwy 6 and 529

I've been trying since Sunday and have only connected to LTE briefly twice. Once in the medical center and once by my house on the NW side of town, near West Rd. & Queenston. Both times were standing outside and I had to update profile in order to get the signal. I tried a speed test and was getting ~2.4 mbps down before losing the signal.
I'm not impressed. Hopefully it'll get better soon...

Nothing in Kingwood either. According to S4GRU http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/212-network-visionlte-deployment-running-list/ Houston is only 14% complete. Pretty weak launch numbers. If you are a contributor to the site you can see where the live towers are.

I'm in the same area as you and i get it. I stay near northshore senior high campus. But drove through i10 and 610 and held signal until getting off at Lockwood exit.

yeah, being a sponsor at s4gru.com, it seems that the current coverage is VERY thin..should be much better in a couple of weeks when sprint accepts more towers from the vendor.

There is LTE in Houston, but it is very very spotty. I get it outside of my work building, but nowhere near my home in Montrose, nor in the Medical Center. I drove from Bellaire to Westheimer and Fountain View with not one 4G signal along the way. WTF?! Sprint is dropping the ball big time.

I caught 4G at the end of kingwood drive near riverwood on 7/15. Measured about 8/3.
Edit: OP, seriously, just chill. They turned on *some* towers on 7/15, but they're nowhere near done. Estimated 100% completion for houston is february 2013. Don't get all pouty about a brand-new service that you haven't been able to use yet. Very, VERY few of us have stable LTE connections.

No 4g for me out here in the Wilcrest/Briar Forest area.

Here is what I got on I-10W about to get to downtown:

I got 4G from downtown to ~610 on I-10W. I noticed that I had to toggle airplane mode when it got stuck on 3G in order to get it back to 4G.

No LTE on the east side. I was able to get LTE for one minute yesterday July 15th around I-10 and Taylor. Here is the speedtest I took when I had LTE for one minute.

vendors... do remember there are three. From what I have "heard" there are also a number of towers ready to go, just waiting on one key element
I second that...give it a few weeks and even beyond that...it is going to continue to get better from here..

The maps still showed "coming soon" last I checked. The media had kind of run wild with the limited soft launch information Sprint provided...has left consumer expectations very high. I am sure Sprint wants it up and running just as quickly as the customers do.

Everyone concerned with lte should follow and actually read the developments of the network that s4gru.com posts and chill out.
Example as follows (credit to Robert most definitely for his tweets and the entire S4GRU site)
S4GRU EDITORIAL: C'mon people, you really do want access to the LTE network early, right? http://t.co/H9PlCARf -- Sprint 4G Rollout (@Sprint4Grollout)

No, vendor. There are three vendors, but only one in the Houston market. The vendors dont seem to share markets.

I do get where u are coming from. And Robert has a point as well. But from what everyone is going through I really don't blame them for being a bit frustrated. This isn't even a decent launch. From what I hear no one is getting constant lte. If this was a month ago then it would be understandable but not for a hyped up nationwide launch.

What the heck is going on with sprints network

One hour I'm at 800kbps. The next I'm at 2200. Then 200. Then 600. What the hell is going on? Its been like this for weeks. Are they messing with the towers? Where do you guys get your sprint news to know when this stuff is happening. It just seems so eratic. Thoughts?

your lucky. I can't even think about getting those speeds here ever. The MAX i see is about 1.13Mbps and thats at 6am here when no one else is on the tower. During normal hours of the day its 0.16Mbps avg. Just thankful I'm always around wifi connection for the most part.
can't wait till they get to my area and get things rocking.
Seems like once the evo got cheaper **** is slow around here now. I think its just to many users and to much data for one tower to handle.
My 3g was alright on my evo, since i've got my evo3d its almost useless in most locations

I knew a small amount about their network upgrade, specifically via my interest in 4g (mainly LTE), because I was lied to when I opened my sprint account about 4g availability. Here in Arizona there is next to no 4g [both indoor and outdoor] coverage, and none in my city despite it being the 5 th fastest growing city in the us. Their current Wimax roll out is/was despicable, and an absolute failure. LTE has more potential than Wimax, from the way I hear it the evo 3D should be capable of either frequency spectrum with just a software update (can't verify the accuracy of that fact), but some indoor Wimax would be a huge upgrade for me!
The detail in the article you posted made it an exciting read, thanks for doing the dirty work and finding and posting this little glimmer of hope!

Just so you know the general argument LTE > WiMax is the most bogus miss informed crap out there. your comparing standards, and as far as speed is concerned they both offer the same roughly. The reason WiMax gets a bad rap is b/c of the freq spectrum it is rolled out on being 2.5GHz doesn't get much building penetration hence the low coverage areas. If they were to put LTE on the same band WiMax is currently on we all would get identical results.
The only reason this rollout is going to be better and will give LTE a better coverage than WiMax is b/c of the freq they are rolling it out on is much lower, so much better building penetration.
The reason they dont do that with WiMax, is b/c now at this point LTE has been adopted by VZ and in turn has gained a lot of steem form suppliers making the costs to rollout LTE equipment much less than it was when they initially rolled WiMax with Clearwire.
Thanks for your reply, I am educated in physics and had forgotten about your frequency point. However I had read that LTE has the potential for up to 80mbit, where Wimax is much lower. Do you know whether that information is false or not?

If they were to use more spectrum speeds could be much higher but right now Clearwire is only using 10MHz channels. LTE Advanced/WiMAX 2 are also supposed to speed it up significantly but I'm not even sure if they've finished writing the standards for it yet.

I assure being one the fastest growing cities means nothing to them at this time... It's when you hit the top of the largest cities it matters to them... Cape coral is close to me, used to be the number 1 fastest growing city in America for awhile...
4g is pretty close to me about an 1hr-1.5hr drive to get a connection to 4g, they just can't get the work done to these towers fast enough lol, even in the huge cities the 4g coverage sucks.
Hopefully we will see some speed boosts soon...

My Home in Aston feels like it has full support as the WiMax & 3G are extremely high (2.5Mbps 3G & 12-15Mbps 4G) In the city of Philadelphia its wonky as hell during the peak hours.
Extremely jealous of you fellas with not only 4g, but fast as balls 3G. My 3G speed is horrible. Tmobile was so much better and faster. They at least had fast 4g.

Data issues, sprint, HTC drivers, or radio...

Hi, so ever since I've picked up this phone, I've had severe data issues and thought, holy hell, my og killed this phone just a day ago, what gives? Well from what I've noticed, I don't think It's HTC at all, I think It's sprint. And my reasoning for this is all day my data sucks, severely but at night about 11:30 pm magically kicks into overdrive, with three bars I get 2Mbps but during the day I can have full signal and I'm lucky to have 1Mbps... Can anyone else confirm this? And if so, what's really going on? I talked to sprint and they say towers are fine/shouldn't be any problems and I'll be lucky to ever see 4g LTE in my area before my contract is up so they aren't scewing with the towers or are they? Conformation from someone else or this beautiful phone goes back... Lol, thanks...

Speeds are terrible almost nationwide right now. I recently flew to dc and my stopover in Atlanta also sucked, but Arlington was good.
I believe it is due to sprint rolling out their 3G network update. I haven't seen an ETA regarding its completion.

Network vision isn't getting here quick enough.. At 5am my speeds are 0.11Mb/sec.
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
I talked to tech support yesterday regarding this issue...they are doing tower upgrades and it is affecting data speeds
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
My speeds seem to be about the same as the OG Evo.
Speed Test App varies from 1.5mbps to 2.0mbps.
I live in decently un-populated area of Michigan though. Most people are on Verizon here because they rolled out 4G LTE here a few months back.
I find it strange, when I talk to sprint in my area, they say it must be my phone, cause there aren't any updates here what so ever but I know it's not the phone, it gets amazing speeds at off peak times... And the other thing that bugs me is the signal strength doesn't correspond whatsoever to the data speeds I'm getting... Hopefully something/someone gets this cleared up cause technically it doesn't really make sense...

I get very inconsistent speeds through out the day; And when I spoke to Sprint, they gave the "towers are being upgraded" spiel. They also gave me this website to check which towers are being upgraded, or have been upgraded:
https:// network. sprint. com
*Note, they also gave me a $30 dollar credit on my next bill, which is a nice gesture, but I'd rather have better service.
I'm in Houston, and my 3g was acting up and my GPS put me in Joliet, I called sprint and they reset my service, powered phone off, powered phone on and reset my profile. so far, so good.
Edit: I couldn't send this post....dropped connection. I went to settings and set roaming to automatic and instant connection.

Ah totally forgot about that website. Thanks for the reminder. Looks like I'm getting 1 voice, 1 data speed, and 1 data capacity upgrade in the next six months and all at the two corners of my community... all right outside Verizon's socal HQ no less
I just spent 45 minutes on the phone with Sprint. Apparently they are getting a lot of calls with people complaining about data speeds on the 4G LTE.
The Sprint rep tried a bunch of things, but even though I'm showing three bars of signal, I have no Internet. It does work sometimes, just not at my phone or office!
She suggested taking it back to a Sprint store and having them reactivate my OG Evo until this phone gets fixed, either with some kind of software fix, or a new hardware version. She says they are logging all these issues, so they can figure out how to fix it.
I have the same issues (Chicago). Called Sprint last night and told them I'm not paying all this money to have 1990 speeds. They patched me over to Level 2 support (I think that's what they called it) and the guy told me that I didn't have data all day, actually. He did some kind of upgrade and everything popped into place. He asked if he solved my problem and I told him "Yeah... for NOW." We'll see how long it lasts. They have an open ticket for me to take the phone back to the Sprint store by close of business tomorrow if I want to have them test it or trade it. I asked them what for - the problem existed on two phones, it's the NETWORK! I also told them to remove the upgrade charge, which is a very small token for poor service... they did. I'm placated but not happy and I'm trying to be patient.
It could very well be your phone. The first one I had was having extremely slow data speeds and occasionally even dropped data connection, Sprint sent me a replacement phone and it has way better speeds than my original Evo ever did.

Do you have LTE? Post it here!

Let's face it.. the place is getting pretty filled up with threads created by people who found LTE, even for just a few minutes. SO I figure it's best to try to shove all of this discussion into one thread. I'll even go one step further and update the OP with locations that people can access LTE at, as well as speed tests for those areas.
Update 9/24/12: I apologize, but I never saw this thread getting so big. Eventually I might try to go through and update everything, but I can't make any promises. I'm a college student with a pretty tight schedule and working on this might be a little overwhelming. Hopefully I'll be able to find time at some point though. Sorry again.
For speed tests: Please use the "Mbps" unit
Speed tests will be uploaded and added to imgur albums set up by me; there will be an album for each city that I receive speed tests for
If you are uploading a speed test for the sole reason of sharing it in this thread, please consider uploading it to imgur, as that would make it much easier for me to transfer the images into an album (uploading them to this forum requires me to download each one and upload them again to imgur)

That thread serves a completely different purpose.
Edit: To clarify on that, the thread you linked to is about where LTE is GOING to be. That thread isn't for reporting where you've already found it, and a skim through shows that people aren't reporting that information there anyway. This is for people that find LTE to report it so that we can see what places have it already going, even unofficially.
I guess Ill start this off. Had LTE all morning while doing a job out there by 290 & highway 6 here in Houston.
Got some lte today in San Antonio NE side at Jones maltsberger and 1000 oaks. I took some speed tests. I'm not terribly impressed because my buddies one x on att got up to about 30mbps but this is way faster than the wimax I was getting so I am more than satisfied with the results

However, I spoke to a Sprint rep yesterday and he claimed LTE services will roll live for us on 7/14 so maybe just a few hours wait for us.
Here's to hoping the towers aren't urban-specific. I'm not so rural but WiMAX has never come out to my house.

My EVO 3G LTE PHONE

I sure do wish that I had some 4g wimax sometimes. This phone was suppose to have awesome 3g speeds but mostly it just sucks ass. What do ya'll think. Im in Plano Texas north of Dallas Texas. Really pissing me off. I think Sprint should go take out a loan and get LTE GOING.
3g sucks ass down here mostly but LTE is great, only going to get better as network vision continues. ive yet to read anything on this phone that said it was supposed to have awesome 3g speeds. a phone cant magically make sprints under capacitied 3g network suddenly great.

Before the phone came out they said that LTE 3g speeds would be faster than the 3g speeds we had before.
What would make this phones 3g speeds on this device any different from any other device? I mean a crappy network is a crappy network. If anything I think it has worse speed and reception than my photon. But that phones radios where awesome.

That my friend, is a Marketing tactic called False Advertising.
Sprint is working on upgrading their network. 3G speeds and coverage will get better as they continue their "Operation Leapfrog" aka "Network Vision" rollout. The EVO LTE cannot connect to WiMAX. LTE and WiMAX are two different 4G technologies.
Mines an EVO WiFi phone! I got the special edition with broken radios. I'm trading it in for a normal 4G LTE on Wednesday when they get a shipment in. Until then, I'm rocking a Samsung Exclaim!

They didn't say the phone would cause that, they said that their Network Vision upgrades would. Which they are still working on.

What part of Plano. I got brief spots of coverage at independence and Plano parkway and from coit up to Parker but that was all I was able to test.

Absolutely NOT a marketing tactic...sorry but if you paid attention to only the part you wanted to, then that is your own fault....they never said the 3G speed of this particular device would be faster than other devices 3G speeds....
They said they are in the middle of rolling out nationwide network overhaul that in turn will vastly increase the 3G speeds in the troubled areas where capacity is an issue...
Change is coming and coming soon...ppl need to just quit complaining about the speeds and data issues at this point or just move onto another carrier...If they somehow dont hit their projected completion of NV rollouts of end of next year(which initially was set to 2015!!) then I can understand hearing complaints then...till then though.....nothing has changed in years so why complain now?...suck it up and deal with what we all already knew, or move on and enjoy your tiered data plan....

I dunno, It seems like 3G on my LTEVO sucks worse than normal. I just came from the GNEX and was getting respectable speeds (as respectable as sprint can get I guess) but right now I'm getting nothing above 20 Kilobytes/ps... I'm in Orlando, Fl so I'm hoping maybe they are working on showing us some LTE love right now to explain the recent drought in data.

3g speeds have been the same in the last two years.... Actually longer than that.. . It's been pretty crappy.

How can I get Sprint to respond to this slow data?

I've been calling every day, every day they tell me no data outages in my area. Have another Sprint user in my building getting same speeds. I've resorted to installing a 3G roaming PRL because they simple won't do anything about it. Before 9/4 the data was fine, slow at times, but I could at least stream Pandora, etc...

Sorry that's so hard to see... but it's less than 100kbps download on almost ALL of them... It's slower than 56k modem most of the time. I have 3G symbol with 4/6 bars and never had bad data like this in the location before 9/4/2012.
Well you could hold your breath or move to city with lte... Jk but yeah I feel ya on the slow data.

Ever heard of "Sprint Vision"? Maybe its happening in your area now.
via EVO.
This is usually what happens when you contact Sprint for issues:

Is it common that when the roll out vision data speeds go to crap before they get better? It's funny as it only seems to be in this 2 mile range around my work. By my house, I'm getting 3G speeds above 1400kbps (which I've never got before). I've told Sprint that, told them that I've updated my profile, basically told them everything and that I just want them to tell an engineer despite what their system shows, that their is slow data in this address range... Still nothing.
Guess I'll just get my contract terminated for roaming...

A speedtest is ONE run. This is a speedtest export of MANY runs.

In the Speedtest Application, just hit the "RESULTS" tab below & it'll give you every run, (date + time, download, upload & ping)
I'm well aware of that, but I wanted more results than that displays, so I exported to CSV. I've fixed the first post so it was better formatting.

I have read that speeds can be affected during the switch over. In my personal experience, it also depends on geographic location. I live in Lake Worth FL, I get 2mb down and almost 900kb up from my house on 3g. Now, I work in North Miami Beach, I'm lucky if I get 100kb down and 3 kb up down here, even on 5 bars. This is even before the LTE rollout. Just because you have a good signal, doesn't mean your data will be fast. I think some areas may be over subscribed, they just don't have the bandwidth available for all their devices in some areas. Hopefully this will get better as they rollout LTE in my area.
If they are upgrading to vision it would be more likely that your speeds would fluctuate rather then stay at a constant low. They may be repairing towers in that area and pushing the load onto remaining towers. That essentially cripples available bandwidth. Had to put up with a similar issue for almost 3 straight months. They should tell you if there are any repairs or improvements being done. Have you tried having your call escalated?

+1 on this. That was going to be my recommendation as well.
CR will probably credit you which looks like you are entitled with the crappy service. And yes, data gets worse during NV upgrades, especially when they are working on the backhaul to the towers. It gets worse before it gets better then you will know its almost time to light up LTE. in short, nothing much more you can do other than leave Sprint but I'm thinking it will be regretted in the end.

Uh, fix it. No one should have data this slow consistently. Every single second. I understand periods of slowness, but this is absurd.
And, it looks like they fixed it last night... Back to normal 400-600kbps.
I've had data that slow at home for close to 15 months, all I got was an Airave (sounds like a motto on a t-shirt).

lol there are places that have had data that slow for 2+ years now with no fixes from sprint.
Get an Airave!, I just moved to a remote area of Hawaii, no data and 1bar at best. Two days after calling for an airave I recieved it. Now 5bars and full 3g. Best part is its free!
