Don't mean to sound like a troll but get a new OS!! XP is over ten years old; it won't work with new devices forever.

While I agree with you, it's terrible practice by developers and hardware manufacturers to expect everyone to spend money on perfectly fine computers to get even more silly-looking and power-hungry versions of operating systems.
Windows XP is officially supported by Microsoft until mid-2014.

Are you on XP 64bit SP2 or XP 32bit SP2? The latter is no longer supported by Microsoft and it's highly recommended to upgrade to Service Pack 3.
You need Media Player 10 installed for MTP mode, but it's (according to other people, I don't have a Windows XP computer anymore) very cumbersome and problematic. I'd recommend using a filesharing app such as AirDroid to connect the phone to your computer.

haha i am still on 32bit xp sp3 @ home pc , works fine, make sure you install latest kies
here is the requirement for kies
OS Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 (32/64bit are supported)
CPU Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz or above (recommended)
Minimum memory size (RAM) 1.00GB (recommended)
Free hard drive space At least 500MB (recommended)
Screen resolution 1024 x 768(600), 32 bit or above
Required software Net Framework 3.5 SP1 or above, Windows Media Player 10 or above, DirectX 9.0C
* For Windows Mobile, ActiveSync (Windows XP) or Device Centre (Windows Vista/7)

I got this error on my windows 7 64bit, I searched the net for hours up on hours. I did not find a solution so I did a fresh install of windows and that did the trick

Win xp x64 : WM 5.0 - will it work?

hello my friends,
i'm thinking about upgrading my desktop OS from Win Xp Pro (sp2) to the latest Win Xp x64 edition.
but i'm afraid that with my new WM 5.0 & ActiveSync 4 won't work in that new OS. hv anyone tried to sync himalaya with Win Xp x64?
another question is about the radio version for WM 5.0. i hv radio 1.08 installed with ROM 1.50g.00WWE and i have no problem whatsoever. my question is what's the different between the radio version. (1.08 / 1.10 / 1.18 / 1.17). sorry if this matter have been discuss before. i can't find the thread.
pls reply. thx a lot
so guys, what do u think?. Buzz, maybe u could give your technical point of view? will it only work on sp2?
that shouldnt be a problem because Windows x64 is also compatible with 32bits program.
From a programmers point of view there should be a problem.
But who knows... its MS.
I would take the chance and try.
my real concern is about the drivers. i heard some people using Win Xp x64 got compatibility problem with some of the software such as the iTunes & Creative Media Source.
maybe the best way is to wait for another month or so for the manufacturers to release the latest & optimised drivers for Win Xp x64.
why dont call MS and ask. they have tech-support for things like that.
pdas dont use drivers to connect to windows it's all handled by
activesync so if activesync works on 64bit xp then any wm5 should sync
u'huh! so what i should do now is just ask someone who is using Win Xp x64 edition to see whether ActiveSync 4 work or not on that OS.
thx.
it works
active sync works on a X64 system without any problems. I am regularly using my Imate JJ with X64. Only problem i have is that I dont have 64 bit drivers for the USB modem.
it works,I tried it once with my blueangel, but one problem that I had was the inability to browse my device in explorer (cant see my documents on the device), but I think I was still using a beta version of async that time, (not sure), but you can 100% synchronize with outlook and other stuff

[Q] ActiveSync & Mobile Device Center Issues

Hi all!
With the base ROM I can attach my HD2 to my notebook via ActiveSync, but I can't do this with my desktop computer. Fast transfer is turned off. On my desktop c. it says "connecting to host", but does nothing PC firewall is off, virtualbox uninstalled (virtual USB driver?), everything seems good, but it's not working
I'm using the same Windows 7 Ultimate x64 image (legal MSDN Premium licences) on both computers...
Ofc Windows Mobile Device Center x64 is installed on both.
Any ideas ?
I hope this is not the wrong forum for this question...

Sometimes deleting the partnership in Windows Mobile Device Center and then establishing a new partnership works. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and this method worked for me once.

Mobile AP not connecting on Win 7 64bit

I am having a problem getting Mobile AP to connect to my laptop running Windows 7 64 bit. It connects fine on my girlfriends laptop running Windows 7 32 bit. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.
More details please. What ROM are you on? What is your process when you attempt to connect to either computer? What are the make, model, specs of either computer? What firewall / security software do you have enabled / installed? My Win7 64 notebook connects fine.

I'm running Nero v5. Basically I just click Mobile AP on, search for it in available wireless networks and click connect. On my girlfriends Win 7 32bit it connects right away. But on my Win 7 64bit it says Windows was unable to connect to AndroidAP0324... I don't run anti-virus and even disabled the firewall completely to see if that was the problem somewhere, but it still didn't work. The laptop I am trying to get this to work in is an eMachines eME528 2.20GHz Intel Celeron Processor, 2GB ram... The wireless is a Atheros AR5B97 Wireless Network Adapter. I hope that info helps.
download the 64 bit Samsung driver 1st, the follow with anything after that. That worked for me any other sequence seems to muck it up
I finally got it working by uninstalling the WLAN driver and installing an updated driver. Thanks again for the help.

Am i missing something

Ok so got a HTC Mozart and debranded it from orange and installed a 32gb mem card now my problem is that it wont sync with zune when using windows 7 64bit ultimate. Now if i use vista 64 bit it will sync with no problem at all. Now i have tried changing the driver and cable and also usb port but still the same outcome so please could someone tell what im doing wrong here or is this just a fault in windows itself?
problem SOLVED
how?
first i did a fresh install of vista 64bit and installed my normal software that i use then i installed zune and connected the phone and once the computer had recognized it properly i then used my upgrade disk of windows 7 ultimate and went on to upgrade from vista and my mobile is now working like a charm with windows 7

Application Deployment on Windows 7

Hi everyone,
So I've got my Lumia 920, and I want to start developping some stuff... I registered to a developper account.
I'm working on Windows 7 (x64) computer, using Visual Studio Express for Windows Phone 2010.
WP8 SDK CANNOT be installed on a Windows 7 machine. So, no problem, I'll try with WP 7.1 applications.
The problem is:
- Zune CANNOT detect the lumia 920 on Windows 7 machine (maybe neither on a Windows 8 machine)
- Visual Studio NEEDS Zune to detect my phone in order to deploy application.
So basically, I just can't deploy anything on my phone on windows 7 can I ?

Yeah you're pretty much not able to do it. You can install Windows 8 as dual boot or in a VHD and do it that way. I don't think you can do it in a virtual machine because WP8 SDK requires to be installed on Windows 8 as the host OS in a Hyper-V environment. Easiest way to do it though is just to upgrade to Windows 8.

Thanks for the answer, that's what I thought... no real workaround then..
I'm using my work's computer, so I don't really have OS's choice (and having a W8 virtual machine running on it is not something I can consider)..
That's a shame though, that after buying a Lumia, buying a developper account, having a computer on Windows 7 I'm still unable to develop the way I want.. Anyway, nothing more to do except complain
I guess I'll just be coding at home.
You CAN deploy apps to WP8 on Windows 7 if you install Windows 8 as virtual machine. I have done this myself using VMWare Workstation.
Obviously, your PC have to support Hyper-V.
P.S.: You need to switch to "Exclusive mode" in the virtual machine and then Windows 8 will detect your USB connection.

That's good to know thanks !
Though I'm not sure my company would let me run a Windows 8 with my own licence on a VM. But maybe I'll find a way, thanks for the tip !
