Dialpad touchtones missing. - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

I have an I-747 (ATT) SGS 3 and it's stock rooted.
I have only had the phone a couple of days and I've noticed the phone touchtones are missing. There's no touchtone sounds when dialing a number and when entering a key on the keypad like to enter a VM password, I get this ugly monotone sound on each key. In other words it doesn't sound like a touch tone phone. Is this normal?
I've installed the STock ROM via Odin and it still does this.
Normal? if not how can I fix it?

Its in your settings
Menu Button>Settings>Sound>Keytones

Not there

Im out of ideas, maby its in the manual somewhere?

Im perplexed. I'm assuming the tones are built in to the dialer apk ill pull one from a rom and move it to the phone and see what happens.

I think it must be a hardware problem. I just installed the latest OTA through KIES and the problem persists. Very strange because I get touch tones in go dialer.

If anyone cares...
I chatted up Samsung Tech support today and was informed that this is normal.
The dialer doesn't do touchtones.

which dialer includes a 'send' and 'end' button?

My red and green 'phone' buttons on my Mogul both do not work. My warranty is up, but it has never been a problem because the dialer I had installed included a send and end button on the keypad screen. Well, I 'upgraded' my rom yesterday and got a dialer that does not include those buttons. Problem is, I don't remember what dialer I had installed. To save me the pain of installing every single dialer one at a time, does anyone know which dialer has these two buttons?
Thanks!
hey i have the same problem. there is now talk button onscreen with the dialer i have from the Round 4 Titan Reloaded M2D. so i cant manually dial out. I have to save to contact and dial out that way. Any suggestion on a specific dialer i can install without have to reinstall everything on my phone?
The generic titan dialer has send/end. I have always picked it using Reloaded Kitchen. My send button on my phone also doesn't work.
oh i didn't use a kitchen, where can I get the generic dialer itself?
this is the best dialer IMO
see attach..

How to remove vibration on dial pad?

Hi, and first of all thank you xdadevelopers for your work! awesome I can have my xperia updated to 2.1 rooted here in Spain!
Now my question is if is possible to disable vibration on the dialpad, 'cause I can't find the option.
I know it's a little silly question but it's bothering me, thank you.
I think you can find the option in settings, sound and display?
but not sure.
thanks but there only can remove sound not vibration
when using the keyboard use the settings button looks like a repair tool there you can disable if is not there go to settings, check keyboard and uncheck it from the default keyboard option, same applies for android one

this works for the keyboard but no effect on dialpad, and when on dialpad settings buttons does nothing.
thank you anyway
Try going into settings "Sound and Display, and untick "Haptic Feedback". It says that it "vibrates when pressing soft keys and on certain UI interactions". Maybe that's the one you're looking for.
i have the same question, i can't remove the vibration on the dial pad.
send from x10a flash with x10i nordic 2.1
I have looked all over forums and internet and I have found no one who is able to disable the vibration from my HTC EVO 46. I cannot stand the dial pad lay out and it showing the call history right above it and can't seem to find a replacement for that either that will be my default phone dialer, not something I have to additionally go to.

[Q] Restore 4.3 Dialer to Kitkat?

I prefer the 4.3 dialer to the new 4.4 dialer in kitkat. I tried removing google dialer and replacing it with a copy of 4.3's dialer from my nandroid. It sort of worked. The dialer launches and works as you'd expect. However as soon as you press send to make a call, the dialer screen disappears. The call is placed successfully but you can't end it, see the keypad, or speaker options. The in call screen basically disappears. You can still get to call history but none of the call screen options are visible.
So I think it is close to working. Does anyone know how to fix it?
Was interested in knowing the same. Any ideas?

Hi
I have the same issue with the stock 4.4 dialer! I can end the call by pressing the lock screen button (configured in accessibility). Any thoughts?
P. S. I have a stock 4.4.2 nexus 5
to replace dialer you need root access. Otherwise you can't make calls.
Never mind my post.
Any news ?

Ok root access is available - I would just prefer to put my dad's phone on Kitkat but he hates the new dialer. Is it possible to use the 4.3 dialer with kitkat?

[Q] Is there some way to turn off the system sounds?

I cannot find the setting for touch sounds for this phone. I mean that I want to turn off the sound when I select something or on the dial pad.
The keyboard settings took care of type sounds, but I cannot find the setting for the whole system. I hate it when it beeps just because I selected something.
In the 'Device' settings I only have 'Display' 'Storage' 'Battery' and 'Apps'. No settings for 'Sounds'.
I'm assuming this a peculiarity of the ROM.
EDIT: I'm using VIBE 7, and the phone is rooted. Maybe there's a way do set this through the command prompt?

[Q] Cannot dial number anymore - phone button disappeared

This is my second Z2, as the previous model showed issues which I thought (hoped) were hardware related. The latest issue is that the green phone symbol below the dial pad is gone. That means I can only call via the contact list. What also looks strange is that the menu in the right lower corner has 8 lines but two of them are empty. From top to bottom it has (translated from german): hide dial pad - <empty> - <empty> - hide call protocol - clear call protocol - speed dial settings - filter call protocol - activate answering machine. Is that normal?
The phone is rooted, runs Xposed and Greenify. I'm not doing anything different from my old Z1 which ran flawlessly. I did remove a few apps I don't need in the recent past (facebook, socialife, vine, path, etc) via Titanium Backup. I've just restored all of them but the phone button is still gone. Firmware is 402.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Torsten
P.S.
The other issues I had with the old and now the new phone is that after a while music & phone calls played via earphones anymore (noise cancelling still works) and that bluetooth connection with the car is lost once a call is attempted. Both can be cured by shutting the phone off and on - rebooting is not enough.

DPI is unchanged - reinstalling the ftf sounds good - unless it doesn't wipe my current installation & data.
Thanks!

Did you use one the the xposed apps to hide the Nav keys ? This will also hide the dialer button sometimes. Does it appear in Landscape ? Disable xposed first before re-flashing a new FW

Oh my... You're the man! I was just connecting the USB cable to start flashing when I saw your comment. It's correct, I disable the nag keys via Gravity Box and going to landscape mode indeed brought back the missing button. Now I need to find another way to get rid of this keys (using pie controls instead) w/o losing the phone's most important feature
Many thanks again!

No Worries. Someone else had the same prob. It should be flagged in Gravity I think.

Instead of disabling the nav bar I set its height to 0. Problem solved.
Thanks for this information. It's really helpful. At first I thought that it was xposed that made that call button disappear and as I'm planning to slowly make my own stock based rom xposed is not an option. Now I realised that I do not have xposed anymore and the problem is still there. I would never realise that it's because I modded the framework to hide the navbar. I'll try to dig this issue and let you know how I would solve it. If I ever manage to xD
No obvious fix in either semcphone or semcphone.apk. It needs further digging.
Got closer. Phonebook.apk
bools.xml
<bool name="config_show_onscreen_dial_button">true</bool>
That's weird, like they would purposely do that. interesting.

Glad I found this thread. The call button on my Z3C disappeared too after I disabled the Navbar. Dialers on other phones with Navbar disabled work just fine.
And NO, I don't find it weird at all. Sony is shady as f**k. Another reason for me to hate those petty crooks.
