(Q) default phone/contacts - Optimus One, P500, V General

I was wanting to know the way to replace the system phone/contacts with rocketdial? I've tried this before,by deleting system phone and contacts thru TB but got tons of FCs.

you dont need to delete anything install app and then change phone and contact shortcuts icons in your home screen by the ones of the app
howver you can use system contacts if you want and after install the app if you go to a contact and press to make a call it will ask you wich dialer you want to use by definition you mark the box and choose app dialer and thats it...
i try it, before post sorry for my english but dont delete those apps from system the solution is right there.
just press thanks if i help you

Hi...
I am currently using Neko95 GingerSnap, and, since i tried MIUI, i loved the UI, i use ExDialer.
When i missed a call, the notification only disappear (automatic) if i open the stock app.
I Linked exdialer to ex partition of sd, rebooted and converted to sys app (Link2SD).
You still have the stock apps, but they are small...
The next thing that i will try, after consult the community if it works, is to, before flash, exchange the stock apps for the ones that i will use... (if someone that reads this can tell, please...)
With best regards, Shaib Lftg

Are you talking about extracting the rom than replace the phone and contacts apk with the dialer and contacts you plan on using ie...rocket dial and renaming it to phone.apk and vice versa

I don't like the idea of having multiple applications which have the same function on my phone... ie...
Stock browser-dolphin browser, stock mms-go SMS pro..you get the picture...

Sms app

I have the nero v3 rom by team whiskey and i really dont prefer the stock android sms app. Handcent is alright but i really want the stock touchwiz sms app. Is there any cwm flashable zip you could direct me to that is compatible with nero v3?
PS i dont want the full touchwiz experience, just the sms

It has bugs with pic messaging last I heard, why not customize handcent to look like it??

Look in my thread, I have a fixed TWiz MMS with GB style notification icons and shortcut. Picture messages aren't blurry in that version either. There's a link to my thread in my signature.

GO SMS is also a great option, its got a tad few less customization options than Handcent, but I think it looks much nicer.
Hey guys thanks for all the quick replies! Also i tried your slightly better gingerbread and every one that i tried came back with the system asking me to wait or to force close. Am i doing something wrong?

You should really ask questions about SBG in my thread. If you had another theme prior to mine, some are incompatible. download the Theme Restore I posted and flash that. If you can't get it on your SD card, boot into CWM, select mounts and storage, then mount USB storage. Then you can put it your internal SD to flash it. After you flash that and reboot once, you should be able to apply any of my themes without the force closes or boot-loops. If that doesn't solve your problem, please report it in my thread.
Go sms awsome

yep, GO SMS is just amazing, has a bunch of themes, android, iphone, htc etc.
pop-up options
its really idiot-proof
has all the options you'd look for in a sms app, and it gets updated like every week or every other week.

[Q] Handcent blacklist question

So I'm trying to figure out the point to the blacklist feature in Handcent. I know it hides all the texts that are on the list, but they are still accessible via the stock messaging app no problem. Is there a way to stop the stock app from showing particular messages, or disable the stock app all together? Just seems like a pointless feature to have if it is bypassed so easily.
remove the stock app from your phone, with root explorer

I wouldn't advise that. Isn't the stock MMS app tied into the framework? I believe this would kill your ability to send and receive messages.
I think the blacklist is to block who ever u want from texting you.

This is pretty much what it does .. I have done it.

I always wondered if that was possible without breaking something....
With launcher pro you can hide it in the hidden apps list..or on adw just put it on your homescreen then.hold it then edit then change the name and change the icon then take off notifications

Launcher Pro allows you to hide applications and in the stock messaging app go to settings and disable navigation notifications. Problem solved.
Edit: I missed the post above mine.

if u are looking just to hide dome text so your partner wont find out....you need to download sms guard on the market ,install and go to settings and put a password do no one wont getting......that works perfectly....now the only problem is if the sent u a multimedia message it wont block ....hope it hepls
I've tried the blacklist from handcent myself but really didn't like it nor worked for me that well. Now I'm using blaclkist app from the market. Much better than the blacklist that comes in handcent.

Hate stock messaging app....?

Hey,
The stock messaging app sucks on this, why does it show messages so wierdly? Like all my messages are at the bottom while all the recieved message are at the top?
It should be one after the other, as in CM7 messaging app that I used on my previous phone.
Someone know how to fix this? or get better messaging app like the cm7?
Check the timestamp of the messages! It might be possible that the app thinks that the messages you've been sent are from the past due to a mis-matching time zone/time setting!
I use go sms pro.
Free from market.

Go to time and date settings untick automatic update then choose your timezone ie: +8 or -4. That will fix your problem.

When you get to calling somebody, it doesn't give you an option to choose what to dial with? I have dw contacts and use that different dialer
Otherwise go to phone and delete saved defaults
which dialer you use to call out is up to you. there is no default dialer.(edit: default is set when click on call link. use to call when link is clicked from web or email. to clear go into manage apps and click clear default) when you want to make a call and select phone you are selecting the dialer so just select ex dialer instead. if you want to delete the stock dialer then delete contacts.apk. this deletes dialer(phone) and contacts but ex dialer includes contacts.
Amen thanl you

This is how it looks wile on a call dpi is 260 i have install dw dialer and ex dialer but still this one comes up when making a call. There must be some thing rong on my end maybe

are you pressing phone icon? if so that is your problem. you have to press the ex dialer icon to get into it. phone is the dialer. you cant change what opens when pressing phone. that would be like wanting youtube to open when you press gmail. it is only the ui not the actual phone. if you want to only use ex dialer then put a shortcut to it in place of phone. you can delete contacts.apk so the stock dialer and contacts are gone.

I did delete contacts apk and still when using ex dialer or any other that same one still comes up

what are you doing to get that dialer to come up? pressing phone or link from web or other?
There is a setting for one hand dialing and yours is set for left hand.
I click on ex dialer i delete the contact apk allready but it still comes up ill give it one more try
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
if contacts.apk is deleted that dialer should not be in your system anymore. the stock contacts and phone icons should be gone. you didnt delete contactsprovider.apk by mistake did you? and clicking on ex dialer should take you to ex dialer not the stock dialer. what happens if you search web for something with a phone number and click call tab from web page? first time should ask what app you want to use? what are your choices?
If you are set at 260 vs the 320 stock, it'll look that way, no?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
Yes setting to 260 will offset the stock dialer like that and not ex dialer.

What Rom/mods/themes are you using?

[Q] Surrounding default phone app in AVATAR Rom

Hello there, I'm currently using [ROM][UNOFFICIAL BETA][CM10] Avatar ROM for Motorola Atrix MB860[Updated 17th Feb 13]
HTML:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2140902
and have been enjoying it. I installed GO contacts EX and Go Dialer EX but for the life of me I can't seem to figure out how to stop the Avatar Rom for using the default dialer when it sends or receives a call. I've gone through and looked at every option I can search through and there is nothing that allows me to uncheck / remove / ignore the default phone app.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. That was the first place I looked. Unfortunately I think the default dialer is hijacking Go Contacts/dialer EX. Go Contacts is set for the default already but the moment I dial out from it, the default dialer takes over on both outgoing and incoming calls. It's kind of annoying but I can simply get rid of Go Contacts and just live with the default. It will be a love/hate relationship It beats having the two programs competing all the time.

I've never tried it before, but root your device (if you haven't already), then go into system apps and delete the default dialer. this might work, but make sure you have your preferred dialer installed ahead of time. this is just an idea, idk if it works

It was a good idea but after I deleted dialer.apk (backed it up just in case), the system pasted a new dialer.apk in it's place (the original default one) once I launched exdialer lol. I have to admit, it is kind of comical how persistent that dialer.apk is Thanks again for the help. I think I'm stuck with it
