Should there be a noob Q&A? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Being a bit of a newb myself. I wondered if anyone agrees that there should be at separate Q&A for noob (novice) questions only.
Therefore more experienced users can filter out stupid questions that even I think is ridiculous. Leaving the Q&A for real problems, rather than simple and stupid questions like "how do I flash a new modem" etc. I propose this idea in all platforms and models.
I felt as a true noob, some time ago that people are very quick to snap at noobs. Leaving them feeling like quitting and giving up. As a community member I feel this is an issue. Having a Q&A for noobs I hope would not leave noob questions unanswered.. just only given advice from willing and helpful members. Leaving experienced or dare I say selfish user the freedom they desire, and the noobs that extra bit of support.
After all, this is a community and we are "supposed" to be helpful. And we all started without any knowledge atall. I am eager to hear your responses.. both noobs and pro devs.
What are your thoughts on this?
Thank me if you agree or better still, post your thoughts. Thanks for your patience in reading my rant

yep yep, the douche is why teamwin released their exploit on the other site instead of here. maybe he will eat a slice of humble pie and settle the **** down.
So you when you come into this subforum trying to find news about the quest for 3D root, you don't mind reading through a ton of responses that have nothing really to do with helping gain root? I've been following that thread for days, waiting for some positive news so I could pull the trigger on a 3D, and not only was it annoying sifting through a bunch of non-responses, there were tons of warnings to stay on-topic. Yeah, the mod reaction was heavy-handed, but also blame the dumdums who continued polluting the thread with nonsense.
I know this response doesn't fall in line with people thinking message boards should be pure anarchy, but I come here, the development forum specifically, looking for information.
censorship isnt the way
most of the dumb questions are from people who don't know any better.
all the people who feel they can berate these members and fill up the threads with constant *****ing DO know better and should be held accountable.
mods should quietly delete useless posts, move and combine threads without being hostile towards members. blatant or continual violations should result in a temp ban but not as a public warning to others.

The people asking dumb questions were warned, over and over and over. It doesn't take much brains to know if your question has anything to do with helping gain root. That thread was about one thing -- gaining root. Now if root had been achieved, and people had questions on how to do it themselves, then let the dumb questions begin, everyone is here to help. But that thread was trying to get to root in the first place, and not the place for questions, only suggestions.
I think the bans were over-the-top, but I don't think closing the thread was.
pointless thread moved to general and closed. @op don't do this or we will consider this spamming our boards. (You will get a vacation for this.)

[FAQ]Moderator needs to reconsider.

Hi Moderator,
Don't take me otherwise. While I am surfing this forum, I can see hell lots of stupid things floating around. Some Rom threads are filing with stupid personal arguments. Lots of threads need to be close as thread's purpose has resolved. If you want I can point it out for you. we know you are doing your job and believe me you are good at it. What I request you is do some initiative to avoid these silly stuffs.
Senior Members,
it's kinda hard to maintain a forum for anyone. As our device a budget phone yet powerful, so we are having hell lots of user and their queries. So
Urge you please give some suggestions so that we can avoid spaming, can also be beneficial for new and senior members.
Aside to new users,
Guys keep your queries thread specific.
Thank you

If the devs could moderate at least their own threads, it would be a different story altogether. Those ROM/kernel threads could be shrinked 80% in size and only useful stuff left.
(Still would not solve the useless junk elsewhere but one could ignore it.)
Dear moderator, could you kindly go through the major development threads (current ROMs, franco kernel) and wipe all the bloody noise outta there.
I will not use a report post function because about every second post is off-topic n00b crap that plain does not belong there, so your PM inbox would get full soon. Not to mention that apparently noone cares about the crippled "report post" function that was discussed in xda-general.
This forum is becoming seriously harmed by useless noise. Some action, please!!!

a better app than TapaTalk?

I know there are a lot of talented and knowledgeable people in this forum. Won't somebody please make a better app than TapaTalk? The search function in this app is awful. Search a subject and the every post where the subject is somewhere hidden, comes up. Why did I pay for an app that I have to resort to Google's search engine to do a better job than the app for it's supported forums?
Surely some talented dev, wants to make some serious money?? How often do they update this app anyway?? How many of you guys and gals, do this for free and are constantly working on improving and updating your work?
This app is prime for a take down! The best thing about this app is that makes the forum easier to read on mobile devices. Heck, small businesses get local developers to make a site that will work on smaller screens?
How many thousands of people use this app? I personally don't know anything about the technical side. I do have a good ear for business and I'm hearing ching, ching.

You guys are so tough. I thought I was posting in the right section. I was not asking a question, expecting an answer. My intention was to get the attention of people who are experienced app developers. This was directed for someone who is scratching their head wondering, how can I make some serious money, Koush style!
I was sure, I wouldn't be the only one who felt the same about TapaTalk. That app practically has a monopoly of these forums. Having other people either support or disagree, might give developers an idea, if it's worth their time. I thought the Q & A, was for helping out or asking questions.
I was doing neither. I was stating a need in a question format to engage a developer to think of the possibilities. Quite frankly, I think the your threat of banning is harsh. (Sigh!) You might ban me yet!

You are in the wrong place. Developers here are not here to make money. They are here because they love what they do. Second tapatalk is not a bad app. I use forum runner myself. An app doest need to keep being updated. If it works then why update it?
Yes we are tough. This is the worlds leading DEVELOPMENT forum. Not the user forum alot of people think it is.
Awww...Justifi, you are only allowed to break the rules if you are regular or a mod. You should read the fine print on the back of the 3rd page on the rules. Everyone knows that developers that do all they can to break code and contact rules abide by the rules they make with a 2 strike your out mentality.
It's ok...next time you waiver they will fluff themselves up and give you an infraction, he might even explain why in a non robotic voice.

But how wrong is this quote..
There numerous developers of apps spamming across threads to
get their apps used so people will pay for them..
Try going in and bagging them for it and see how quick they flame you..
True most of the rom developers, themers do it for love..
But jezz to step up to the mark with this one has go it to take the cake..

Zelendel, you have been around for a while..so we both know there are a lot of great minds at work on here ..
not driven by any dallor value..Not debateable..
But the facts of this thread is to open debate that maybe' just maybe...
the main mobile forum readers used at present are not as good as they are cracked to be.
tapatalk and even the xda website search functions are not well designed..
They both lead to complancy by posters both mobile and online..
And there is room for improvement..
If this comes from a $$$ driven developer then so be it.. if he had restated it as a bounty..(monetary incentive) I am sure you wouldn't take offence to this
Back to topic, As an example of a good search function on a forum site is on
Hotcopper.com.au,
its a stock site but the accuracy and narrow searches allowed make it a breeze to find current and past posts on topic, stocks, or posters
This should be compared to what is available on xda to see if there could be improvements made..
Also xda could ask the tapatalk developers ever so nicely to look into beefing up their search function..
As you have suggested one to use, I should have a look at it..
I like the mikmik forum reader but as its just linked into theirs at the moment I don't know if they bigger plans for it..

The same place we were when it was mostly developers on this site. Remember that XDA has been around long before most users even knew what a smartphone was.
As for the bounty. XDA doesnt like bounty threads.
Check my Sig "noobs best friend" for a search plug in for FF or IE browsers.
As for my comment about being here for the money. This is one of the biggest problems as of late. XDA was made to share info and to help others to learn to do things on their own. As of late too many people are trying to make money using XDA. This is not what we are here for nor is it allowed.
There are plenty of how tos floating around and if the current Forum apps dont do what you want then by all means dig in and learn and make one up. Not only will it be a great learning tool. But you may find that it is fun and become a famous developer. This is what we are here for.

I gotta admit z, if I only read up to your first post, I would have had a whole different take on your comments then from this last post.
I have been trying make my own themes, mods and even write some apps. As a n00b to those areas, it is hard to find information at times, and this site *does* help with that. However, I would consider myself not a developer - far from it, but rather just a user. So this site *is* for users too, as they use what others have posted to possibly become devs/themers themselves someday. This site can really be a sort of school for those interested.
So I'm glad you clarified the earlier remark.

For those that go deeper and deeper into things...XDA is great..
This age of computing so far has allowed a break away from the locked in
Software systems that we were forced into since really MS took over DOS with windows front ends
I won't even go into apple o/s speak..
Openware/shareware as the apps market now could be termed allows for us the end users direct input
With the developers to push for better products..thus XDA is the medium that brings the two together..
Like it or not at the moment its the worlds premier focal point for this..
So I understand how the purists must be shaking their heads..
Sad but true a lot of talented developers are going back underground, to less known parts of the web to cook
So then it leaves XDA holding the front so to speak..
Its all good and a big thanks to the mods for keeping it semi under control..
Its a jungle out there...

Fish, "Z", and "Dg",
I agree with all of your most recent post. Now that, I've cooled off a bit . It's also known that techies as whole are not famous for great people skills. This forum is and should be a great place to learn. For the sake of encouraging more people to try to become developers or better developers, XDA could practice a "firm" tolerance. The default attitude should be to guide people to where they need to be, without flaming or threats of banishment right out the gate. IMO, it doesn't feel like that. To make mistakes is part of the learning process.

ROMS for N7000 on I7I7??

Do the roms that are built for the N7000 work for the SAMSUNG-SGH-I717?? I only ask because...
1.) The I7I7 has only one ROM available and its not ICS where as the N7000 has several ROMs available.
2.) I know its possible because I run Desire HD roms on my HTC Inspire.

They have jobs and lives outside of xda and do mods in their spare time. Plus this phone is only a month old

Apples and oranges. The Desire HD and Inspire 4G are basically the same phone. The hardware is the same except for some minor differences with the sound hardware. The international Note and ATT Note are completely different phones. The only thing they have in common is the size, screen, pen and they have similar cases. That's it. Everything else is different.

Absolutely questionable response and uncalled for...even suggesting that isnt humorous and maybe you should be concerned as to what people will perceive about you. Im just about sick and tired of all the rudeness and blatant self rightgeousness on these forums, members need to show some self-respect by not being rude. This forum has some NEW RULES as the base subscriber is no longer DEVELOPMENT ONLY the majority of us are not developers...they have their own section for each device to which noobs are restricted and should be, so giving people and noobs a hard time for something posted in the GENERAL and Q&A sections is ridiculous, so maybe show a little restraint if you choose not to help and just move on without posting anything!
Listen, I know a lot of noobs and others make mistakes and dont follow the rules but why jump on them outside of the DEV's threads? If you do as a senior or junior member then you also are breaking the rules!
NEW Forum & Marketplace Rules;
2.3 Flaming: XDA was founded as a group of people sharing information about certain mobile phones. Sharing does not involve virtual yelling (flaming) it does involve working together to solve problems in an environment of mutual respect and understanding. Losing your temper and flaming another member, or group of members, is not acceptable behavior.
2.5 Courtesy towards other Members: Treat new members the way you would like to have been treated when you were a new member. When dealing with any member, provide them with guidance, advice and instruction when you can and always with respect and courtesy. Never post in a demanding, argumentative, disrespectful or self-righteous manner.
10. Help others if you can.
If you see posts from others where you can help out, please do. This place exists because people are helping each other, and even if you are relatively new to the matter, there's probably already quite a few people newer than you that would benefit from what you've learned. Don't be shy.

Best advice is found in post #3
NEW Forum & Marketplace Rules;
It also says USE THE SEARCH BUTTON because what you are asking might have been mentioned 100 times + the fact that there are two different forums for these 2 phones should tell one that these phones ARE TOTALLY DIFFERENT!

I did search but was unlucky upon finding something. There are 2 forums for the Desire HD and for the HTC Inspire but the Inspire can ROM Desire HD ROMS so I wasn't sure. Better to ask than ruin a brand new 300 dollar phone....

Should there be a Noob Q&A?

I don't think it's in the intrests of XDA to segregate people, and brand them as "noobs" just because they are new. I've seen alot of new users learn very quickly and become very respected developers

To be honest most ppl brand themselves as noobs. I feel I am learning very quickly, currently learning java. Some people just don't have the patience. Can't be bothered to search. As I have learnt in my experiences that you have to be very patient and start all over again often. As for people who don't search.. that's just pure laziness. Ah well the strong will prevail..

There's a difference between being "noob friendly" and catering to the minority of what is already a minority. Let's not forget XDA's origins as a DEVELOPER site. The directions provided by devs are almost always complete enough that anyone willing to put in 5 minutes worth of effort to use the search button is able to figure it out.

I agree that we shouldnt be spoon feeding people. I have gathered knowledge in android and developing massivly over the past few weeks. And i have xda to thanks. Already a senior member and learnt so much more than what i could have ever imagined.
Android is the future! And xda is playing a big part in molding its future. So a massive thumbs up!
I did however encounter some very rude members how could have easily directed me to the rules sticky. We do not need noob Q&A. We jus need to give polite gentle nudges in the right direction, if they are just plain lazy...
Throw em in with the pack of bitter xda "originals" for all i care. as they are branding xda as a "fix my fone" forum. Not as what i hear it was back in the day..
