[Q] what to do now? - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Recently purchased a Sony X S, second hand, but unfortunatley it is sim locked to orange uk, with the help of several threads on here so far i have managed to flash ICS via flashtool, have full root, and have CWM recovery installed which i have used to flash from zip, beats audio mod and status bar mod successfully
But now im itching to be trying some modified roms and kernels but with my handset being simlocked the bootloader says cannot be unlocked in the service menu
from what i have read, the only option to unlock is via a purchased code, thats fine im happy to pay but will this enable me to unlock the bootloader afterwards?
i phoned orange uk, they said will provide me with a code for £20.42, but i have to have an active orange account for 3months before they will sell me a code! so is there any other reliable services to aquire an unlock code?
any advice appreciated, thanks

Why do you want to unlock the bootloader?
I've heard that the paid unlock codes works

Hello,
I used one such service about 6 months ago, but on an older LG GT540, I first went down the root of using a local shop, but due to the custom ROM and Kernel on the phone the guy simply could not do it. I used cellunlocker.net, it is one of the top results in google and it works, a bit on the expensive side but they do offer a money back garuantee, but you have to film the unlock process and post it to youtube to be able to get a refund. But, if your IMEI is submitted accurately, then you should have no problem, it does however take about 48 hours to get a code from them and I can say, apart from the price the service is good.
Check out the website and make sure you read ALL the information on the Xperia S page they have before you submit your IMEI and payment, in case they have listed any limitations.
I hope that helps.

[Q] HTC Hero Orange Uk unlocking

Hello I have an HTC Hero on Orange UK and it is locked to Orange. I'm trying to get it to get it unlocked so that I can give it to my brother who is on T Mobile UK.
At first I though it would be as simple as loading a new ROM but after rooting it and installing both Villian and a Taiwanese ROM I still couldn't use the T Mobile SIM.
I am aware that the unlocking codes could be brought from Orange but I was wondering if there was a way of unlocking it with out purchasing the unlocking codes.
I have had a look online and on here for various methods but i couldn't find anything of any use. I am aware that this may not be the first time this has been asked so if you have any solutions please link me or explain...
Finally I am pretty tech able am able to do most things.
cheers
Tim
Short answer: Pay for a code
Long answer: Don't pay orange £20 for a code, go look on eBay for one. Mine cost £6.99.
Also, this does not belong in "Android development"
hey man, there is no other way then buying 6-7 pounds.. so, save your time by stop searching free sim unlock
timothy,
Orange and T-Mobile are now the same company (can't remember who bought who) so your brother should be able to use the hero straight away.
If it doesn't work then Orange should now unlock it to T-Mobile without question, considering that they are one and the same.

Please disregard this misinformed statement!
Orange and T-Mobile merged, neither bought either, and their "parent company" Everything Everywhere (lame name) was created.
They do network share, so customers can opt in to use the masts from the other network, but by no means are they the same network now.
The brands are due to remain seperate, and lets be fair
1) why would they believe that it was going to be on T-Mob, surely if they'd unlock for free without question everyone would just say that
2) they're wanting to make £25 quid out of you, and they will do for as long as its legally possible.
Once again, short answer: buy a code on ebay.
Buy a code off ebay then you have to downgrade your rom to an early modaco one cant remember which one i used , enter the code to unlock it then reflash an up to date rom.
Thats the only way to unlock a orange hero just had to do 3 off emm mate.
thanks for all suggestions i feel i will have to buy the codes cheers anyway

one last thing who do you buy them from on ebay (seller name/link) and is it always for htc hero on orange
Is Modaco 2.9 ROM still the only method to unlock Orange UK? Currently running RCMix and rooted. Better still, how one did recently.
Cheers.
Yes think it was that one mate... it was one of the very early modaco custom roms anyway.
don't worry, use this which give different countries and provider, with unlocking code of reliable cost.
you can use that & unlock mobile mobile to T mobile .

[Q] how to get orange xperia x10 free unlock code

hi xda developers!
my uncle sent me an xperia x10 which is originally orange locked so i want to unlock it to use here in philippines. i tried to bring it to the technicians and they're charging me lot of cost and i don't even have a visa card or credit card to buy unlock codes or software online...so can you guys please help me to sort this problem out? please
You can't unlock the phone. There is a software mod to unlock but not sure if you can find it. You will have to buy the code/unlock . I don't see anything else
Damn there was a site for this that was free! Only I forgot it... I will try to search for it for you!
thanks so much! will greatly appreciate your help to sort this out...thanks!
i just noticed, where did my other comment go? is there something wrong with my post?
Do you mean sim locked?
yes it is....
hey guys can you please check this out?

Yeah, I think Omnius *used* to have an option to unlock the X10 for free during a promotional period about a year ago for a couple weeks. I'm not sure if they could have done any of the Orange branded X10s.
Unfortunately, Orange is one of the most difficult (and costly) phones to unlock. The absolutely cheapest way for you to unlock it is to call Orange and see if they'll be kind enough to unlock it (I think Orange UK charges 20-25 Pounds or so, unsure of Orange France).
Only other option is to go with one of the remote unlockers. There are a couple companies that can send you a code with your IMEI but expect to wait around 25 days to save a few (and i do mean, few) dollars.

hey
i just started browsing around for you and whenever i got a carrier locked phone i always used IMEI unlock codes
try this http://www.cellunlocker.net/blog/2010/06/how-to-unlock-sony-ericsson-xperia-x10/
thanks for all your response, actually orange uk is charging 20 pounds to unlock it but unfortunately my uncle wasn't able to organize it as it was already sent to me via dhl. i don't know if they will still allow it to be unlocked as it's already here in philippines. I've been trying to browse around the unlockers to get a code or software to unlock it but as what i've seen there are lots of issues like:
on htccode what i saw just now is their system is seem down as per some client's recent posts who are wanting to get their money back.
and some other unlockers offer the code but will have to wait for 5-10 days. i know this is absurd but i have an itchy hand now so i really want to unlock it really quick and use it right away.
anyway thanks to all of you... if i get to unlock this soon i will post it here.
Hi! I'm also looking for the cheapest code, but for now, the winner is mrunlock for 20 pounds... I don't know if I can trust it... Have you find something cheaper???

[Q] Is it possible to unlock the Sony Xperia P?

I have done this, you need to ring o2 and ask for the the unlock code, they should give you it for free.
Then when you put a different network sim in your phone, it'll ask you for the code to unlock the phone.
Remember the thanks button.
Cheers,
Lunar.

Hi
They could NOT unlock my XPERIA P. Here I post the answer from mrunlock
"Unlock Code Unavailable
Your order will be refunded in full under our satisfaction guarantee.
This could be because the phone manufacturer has not yet added it to their database, it is an unsupported model, or you accidentally entered the IMEI for a different phone.
If you would still like to unlock your handset then please try your local independent phone shop / market trader as they may be able to do this with hardware.
It is also worth testing your phone with different SIM cards to double check it is still locked as sometimes you may find it works when you do not expect it to."
Also they have not refund me yet
i have since got my phone unlocked, it wasnt easy to find somewhere to do it, this is a hard device to unlock it seems, your best bet is getting in touch with the company your phones locked to, I got mine unlocked by o2 themselves free of charge, but thats because my ebay seller was very helpful and filled out a short form for me after i requested.

What kind of information does O2 need to unlock the phone?
I got in touch with my ebay seller (the original owner) and she filled out a form for me, im not too sure what details she had to put forward but i dont think its anything you could obtain unless you were the original owner, i was told however of another way around this but its not free. You have to get an o2 payg sim, top it up with like 20 pounds, make a few phone calls from the phone so it registers with your imei number, then with at least 15 pounds left submit an unlock form for payg sim to o2

[Q] SIM Unlock for st18i ?

Does anyone have any confirmed success SIM unlocking the Xperia Ray st18i ?
I've found a couple of sites that claim to be able to do it using a mixture of connecting pins with tweezers and paying for unlock software, but don't really want to pay unless I know it is 100% genuine
Or if anyone knows of a free way to SIM Unlock the st18i, that would be appreciated
Cheers

Yea thanks, they gave an unlock code which didn't work, then eventually admitted they couldn't unlock it and refunded £20 credit as an apology
Unlock shops have been unable to unlock it too
Everything I have read says you need to connect 2 contacts near the battery before plugging in USB and using software to unlock it, which explains why the carriers code didn't work
Why can't u check bootloader unlock status because of it does allowed then you can flash custom kernel and Rom which then unlock SIM lock.
Here is the instruction to check
First, you should confirm that it is
possible to unlock the boot loader of
your device by checking the service
menu. In your device, open the dialler
and enter *#*#7378423#*#* to
access the service menu. If you have
a tablet, click here to learn how
access the service menu.
2. In your device, tap Service info >
Configuration > Rooting Status . If
Bootloader unlock allowed says Yes,
then you can continue with the next
step. If it says No , or if the status is
missing, your device cannot be
unlocked.

No I guess that's not right. Sim lock and bootloader lock has nothing in common, only if the carrier locks the bootloader and makes it impossible to unlock. So I guess unlocking the bootloader won't unlock your Sim lock, but I'm not sure
Btw is your bootloader even unlockable?

I was able to Bootloader and Sim Unlock Xperia Ray ST18a(i) but it cost me $10 to do it. The Carrier could not do it. I used FastGSM. I don't know exactly HOW this process works but it does work. It involved connecting Test points which I believe temporarily open a way to insert a SIM Unlock certificate which may not be genuine due to the fact that when your carrier buys the phone from Sony or another manufacturer, they are factory locked in other words, the network lock is inserted into a secure partition. I believe the test points open up this secure partition for inserting another Certificate through the s1tool. FastGSM uses a program which when you log in, checks to see if you have credits, and once that stage passes, it downloads and inserts this certificate into the secure partition. It also unlocks the bootloader in this process allowing you to get Fastboot mode. This is what I believe, not sure if it is actually the case. However, I wasn't just merely satisfied that my Bootloader and SIM are both Unlocked. I prefer a technical explanation of what this process does and HOW it works. Ofcourse, the unlocking source are not going to tell me how they did it. But I believe they got their hands on the certificate that gets inserted once the EEPROM is temporarily unsecured using test points. I firmly believe SIM Unlocking should be free and should be available to anyone who wants to go at it. I believe the Warranty and other excuses they give such as warnings about security etc are redundant and pointless. If you look around, just the process of Rooting is daunting enough for most 95 percent of the population, so I don't think people would go around unlocking their phones even if the information was made available. Most people wouldn't even know about it.
Next time, purchase a phone that can be easily unlocked, Do some research. Although the $10 I spent unlocking is not a big deal, I personally do not ever want to pay a single dime to network unlock a device that I already own. Here we have to pay $50 to the carrier to unlock it. I would rather help people by giving them information on how to do it for free. Then they can go void their warranty if they wish. People who care about warranties are not going to bother with any of this, which begs the question, why are SIM Unlocks such a tightly guarded secret, and what can we as a community do to thwart the efforts of these Carriers to keep us locked in such a way that the device we own is deemed useless if its not on their Air.

[Q] T-Mobile lied to me.

Hello XDA,
I have been here a lot of times, but didn't remember my essential info to log on as before.
I was in USA recently and someone stole my backpack. I went to t mobile, to buy a phone. And I specified, I need it to be unlocked because in a month I am flying back home. I paid the device normal price 350 dollars for an S3 and got it or 300 dollars don't remember. I am now home and the device doesn't work. And I want to unlock it and remove the T mobile firmware.
is it possible?

Not sure where the lie is...? They don't sell the phones unlocked, even when purchased out right. If you were told that, most likely the CSR just didn't know what they were talking(common) about rather than actively lying to you. You should be able to contact their customer service to obtain an unlock code though if you have proof of purchase. Other than that, if it isn't updated (not likely) past 4.1.2 you can unlock it yourself via hidden menu. If you are on 4.3, this method no longer works that I have seen and you'll need to purchase an unlock code from a reputable source if T-Mobile refuses to help or you are unable to provide them with the necessary details for them to give you the code.

I asked her like 4 times. Will it work in my country? The answer was yes, and the last time was, are you going to ask me again sir?
Can someone direct me to the secret menu? I am in my country now. Will it unlock?
I am on odin and I cant flash back the 4.1.1. why is that. If I flash it back I will be able to use the secret code
So, you got it from the US, and not you are home (can I as where?) and it doesn't accept your sim card?
Do you have an authentic receipt with the full price, and/or proof of purchase?
if so you can contact an authorized Samsung dealer in your area and describe the issue, and they will give you the unlock codes.
Something similar happened to me: I bought a brand new Galaxy S3 from Europe and sent it as a gift to the Middle east, where it didn't work, but with the receipt and some patience (a week/10 days), Samsung sent us the unlock codes.

No, once you update to latest version (4.3) with its modem, you can't use old unlock codes (unless you backed up your EFS), but I guess your only hope is Samsung, try them first.
