Where is Google Now? - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

I'm running CM10, the one posted by Cyanogen. It's running great and I love it, but I'm really confused as to where Google Now is. I flashed the gapps for Jelly Bean and it seems to just not exist anywhere on my phone. Can anyone please enlighten me as to what's going on?

Have you tried search...

That's just the problem, holding the menu button does nothing, and my lockscreen only has the camera and unlock.

Most likely then CM didn't finish Google Now since in one of their videos the one phone had the same problem since they didn't finish Google Now on it but fixed it after. Probably next release or so it'll be there.

Go to the app manager in the settings go to all and see if you have Google search

just tap on the google search widget thats in the homescreen. Google logo or the mic to go straight to talking.

Try doing a full wipe and reflashing the latest release that came out today.

I had this same problem but mine was to due to the fact that I flashed gapps after booting up the phone for the first time. I went back into recovery, full wipe, flashed Rom and immediately after flashed 7-16 Gapps and when reboot was done I had google now. Maybe you can give this a shot if you haven't already.

Can't install apps from unknown sources

On task650's AOKP from and can't seem to install apps. I get to the installation and can't press install button. Not hardware issues but show more permissions and cancel button work. Is there a way to do this no wipe, because then its not just a matter of one app.

Are you using screen filter? Cause I found on the net someone who had the same problem and the screen filter activated was the cause!
I have the same problem and when I finish work I'll try it!
EDIT: confirmed to work in my case!
Yrs this worked. My problem was lux, which goes the same thing as screen filter. Uninstalled and I can now install off market apks
Same issue here. Can push Cancel button but cannot push Install button. Sometimes apps only show 'Next' as an option instead of 'Install'. Recently updated to 4.1.2013 of AOKP. Am not positive if issue started at the same time but it was around that time.

Anybody installed the Google Now.apk?

I flashed it this morning. It's running very stable. Too early to see if it's hit my battery hard, but so far, I haven't noticed anything to suggest it will.

Stopped working after today's CM9 nightly (Aug 8, 2012)
I installed it yesterday actually, and it was working great on my CM9 nightly version at the time. Very cool when it tells you how long it will take to get to work/home.
This morning, after updating to the latest nightly, it got replaced by the default google search box. So I tried re-installing it but I couldn't get it working on the latest version of CM9. Re-installing/uninstalling/re-installing still didn't make it work properly.
Did something in the current nightly break it, or is it something I'm missing I wonder?
Sounds like the nightly brokie it. I'm still running stock ICS.
I installed it a few hours ago. It crashes randomly. not sure of the cause, could be a bad flash. Still wondering about the auto-traffic info on the way home. Dunno how long it'll take to "learn" my routes.

I installed it yesterday and so far I like it... Not sure how much I'll use it once the newness wears off though.
Flashed it about two days go ago, I'm using only one-goldie version rom. So far no issues, much more accurate than s voice. I I find myself using g now a lot more.

running the same setup. i hear the sound but its really low. im using a jelly bean theme and it changes the little mic emblem at the end of the search bar to "google". other than that runs great. i had a nexus that was on jelly bean and google now pretty much picked up everything from there.
It was working perfectly on cm9 nightly about 7-29 and now on stable cm9 pressing search gives the normal Google search box and long pressing search goes to voice search on Google now so I can't access the main menu. Tried wiping cache, uninstalling, everything and I guess it's just broken

I'm pretty sure all you have to do is go to your app drawer and you will have an app just called Google. This will take you to your google now page with your cards. Give it a shot.
Thanks for the help, but no dice. Installing the 08-11 cm9 nightly fixed the tap search thing (makes it the Google now? version, looks similar to old search box but with similar design to Google now) but clicking the app in the drawer brings it back to that screen. Cards aren't a big deal for me but it appears different versions of cm9 have differing success.

Thanks alot guys. I ended up being able to download it. I have a problem now though. There isn't a menu button option on the hardware, so is there a way to get menu button? There also no little 3 dots in the apps like it was on stock ROM that activated the menu.

You really didnt search at all did you?
One fix is to go back to a nandroid of a TW rom.or to flash a TW rom get a lock and then flash your new rom again. however since you're on Beans 17, im assuming, I dont know if that's gonna be much help. You can download one of the GPS apps from the Play store, look up GPS problems on XDA and youll find it cause I dont remember the name, and let it replace your GPS files. You can also download the Pimp My Rom app and use it to replace your GPS file.
You can also try this:
Go to Settings
Application manager
click all at top
go to Google services framework
clear data
Then
go to settings
Application manager
click all at top slide bar
go to maps
clear data
uninstall updates
Go to location services
turn off VZW Location service or disable it all together if you have the option
Power cycle phone
update maps from android market if your phone auto updates after you reboot that's ok, my note 2 auto updated maps and my gps worked fine
That's it your GPS should be working now

the best fix is to go your most recent rom you had a lock on preferable a nandroid as it's much easier.. get a lock navigate anyway get the lock then wipe everything etc.. flash rom and then you should get a lock this is mentioned all over the threads hope that helped

Actually I and a few other members have found that replacing the GPS files with either Pimp My rom or the GPS app, that I still can't recall the name of, work just as good in most circumstances and are a lot faster. It doesn't work for some people but then again neither does flashing back to another TW rom for some people either.
Not to mention it's much faster than reflashing a rom, setting it up, getting a lock, and then flashing the rom you wanted in the first place.

[Q] GE S4 rom by dubsy

Hey guys, so I got my S4 around July 4th and realized the same day I didn't like touchwiz. Got home, rooted and threw Dubbsy's rom on it.. I have been in love with the rom since I got it, never had an issue with gibberish provider name (except once) the lack of LTE bars didnt bother me because it still worked. The only major issue I ever had with it was my recent apps option stopped working. Well I just got the chance to update it to the newest build of the deoxed version and it has fixed the LTE bars and recent apps works again. It is fantastic and I really appreciate all the work you do! The ONLY issue I have is I only have 3 home screen pages. Is this a limitation of the rom, am i missing something simple??? I could use some help here and if it is a limitation of the rom, no big deal I can live with it until a newer version comes out

Dubbsy's ROM is nice and stock, with very few modifications.
If you want more home screens, I highly recommend simply throwing Nova Launcher on there. Grab it in the Market. It looks and performs 99% identically to the stock Nexus home screen, but adds a bit of customization. It's what I'm running on Dubbsy's and I've got no issues whatsoever.
If you still have a copy of one of the older versions of the ROM, pull launcher2.apk out of it's /system/app/ folder. I noticed the same thing and use 5 screens myself.
Once you pull the .apk replace the launcher2.apk in your current /system/app/ with it using a root enabled file manager under rw mode. Like the CM installed on the 4.9 edition or Root Explorer.
Once you've done that go ahead and reboot and you should be good.
At least, that's what I did.

Yea, it only changes the launcher. That's the only apk you would be replacing, and you wouldn't be using a third party substitute, it would be the genuine launcher since you would've pulled it from one of Dubbsy's older builds. I personally pulled it from 4.7.5 test since that's what I had on my sdcard at the time. Works fine.
