Where should I buy it? - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Well im up for an upgrade on august 1st from the Og Evo and im starting to save up some money to buy the white Evo 4g LTE. Where can I get the best deal?
Thanks in advance

Check some of the online retailers, I doubt there is any stock or customs issues now, unlike around launch day. But if you want it that day, id go with best buy or sprint.

Since most retailers change their sales weekly, my approach is to shop around for the best deal. I usually watch Wire fly, Amazon wireless, Let's talk, Best Buy, Radio Shack, Target, and Sprint. I think there were a few more, but I can't think of them now. Also, keep in mind that if you find it cheaper somewhere else, Best Buy usually will price match it if you have the ad.
Just shop around and do your research, and you should get a good deal on this great phone. Hope this helps.
Edit: If you plan on trading in your old phone, I just found this. Best Buy is running a special right now. Here's the link: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Mobile-Phones/Mobile-Phones-Trade-In-Plus/pcmcat277500050012.c?id=pcmcat277500050012

Yup, check all retailers the day you want to pick it up. I picked up mine for 150 at radio Shack since they were having a special last week. Good luck.

Amazon has it for $79.99 with a 2 year contract. One of the coolest this I have been hearing from people is that somehow they renew your contract but Sprint systems doesnt picks it up, and your still eligible for an upgrade from other places....LOl

Wow that is a really good deal, and what do you mean when Sprint systems doesnt pick it up? And once I buy it can I put it on Sprints insurance?

Estimated Release Date for HTC Evo 3D

I was checking the sprint community forum and seen something that makes sense:
"i work for sprint and they have extended the date of no mail in rebates 3 times already. now it doesnt end until 6/4/2011. and what i have seen is that each date that they extend the instant rebates the day after is the date of a new phone. originally the instant savings was to end on april 16th the day before the echo is released, then it was extended to may 7th the day before the nexus is to come out. now it is extended to june 6th and im hoping they announce the release of the htc evo 3d for june 7th. plus the evo was released in june so i think the 3d will follow suit for sure. It should be a one of a kind phone for sure."
I was also talking to a sprint rep who told me that the number transfer rebate expires 06/23 (what I mean by this is the sprint 'credits' as they call it) in which he said that most likely the EVO 3D would come out after that date.(He made sure to explain to me he didn't exactly know the date and just described a pattern). I also notice the mistake on dates in the quote above it should be 06/04, more info can be found at http://community.sprint.com/baw/message/283940#283940.
So two possible dates, I assume it will be earlier in June. (June 5th)
I was going to pre order it, but with no price point set for without contract purchase and I don't think it would to wise to do that. Would hate to pre order a phone with $50 and it ends up costing $700 full retail, and I'm not paying that. Would have been nice to have a price to go by.

I am sure you can wait until the price is released before pre-ordering. The pre-orders right now are not even being advertised yet so I would think you will still be good once a price is released.
Sprint Rep told me it would most likely cost as much as the EVO 4G, which was $199.99. Based upon all phone carriers, I would say it would not go above $299.99. Also Best Buy Pre-order is not through sprint I was told because Sprint is not doing Pre-Orders. I have to order mine through a rep to get my discounts so I have to wait anyways.

They give you a $50 gift card as "proof" of the pre-order more or less. Could just use the $50 gift card on something else. If you change your mind, they don't expect you to use it exclusively on the phone.
For instance, I could go use mine right now on an XBOX game right now and still be on the pre-order list. And I could also just NOT pick up the phone.
The 3D blockbuster app goes live on June 2nd, so the Evo 3D probably wont launch much after that.
I'm betting on June 3rd, simply because its the first friday of June as was June 4th last year. Plus, June 3rd is better than the 5th or 23rd...

Pre orders at best buy are refundable, they just give you a $50 gift card that you can return or use if you decide to not go through with the purchase. $700 full retail sounds about right though, I'd personally buy it at that price point.

Speak for yourself, I'm hoping for a June 23rd release as that is my upgrade date. I've preordered so if the phone drops before that date I'll have to convice sprint to move up my date, convice best buy to hold my preorder, or pay full retail.

so couldn't you just wait till the 23rd to get the phone??? Why couldn't the evo3d come out the 3rd and you can't wait to upgrade 20 more days
Haha, I'd like to get it today so the sooner the better for me. Also if its after the 23rd then that would suck for people like me who get a $175 discount off the phone from transferring my number and my work discount. So if the phone costs $199.99 like the EVO 4G did then it will only cost me $25. Also as soon as I heard about the EVO 3D my Fuze has been going slower, freezing more and just being a pain in the @ss. It's not worth it to flash an update and try to clean it up, just going to deal with it until the EVO comes out so the day I get it, it will be even nicer. (Cleared some info as it forced me to)
The $175 discount is actually $125 for transferring the number from a different carrier, and $50 from work to clarify for people that are also transferring and be sure to tell the rep that as they may not as or try to find discounts your entitled to. Best Buy didn't ask anything but do your research and tell them where you work to see if you get a discount such as state employee (usually 15%, included teachers, police, etc. (again look this up this is on memory of 2 years ago and I'm not sure what all carriers do on monthly discounts). Remember, Google is your friend on finding you discounts so be sure to use it. (Example: See promo code from a site that your buying something such as advanced auto parts, if you don't Google and active Promo code to save money then your a retard.)

No way I'm paying $700 for a Cell phone. Sprint will have it cheaper than Best Buy most likely anyway. The original Evo is $450 at Sprint and like $550 at Best Buy. They mark their phones up big time.

You have to be employed by certain companies or be a member of certain groups. Every company/group get a different discount.
Ex. The company I work for can get 7% off AT&T but can get 23% off with Sprint. I use the discount through my wife's company, and we get 25% with Sprint.
Lots of different ways.....you are probably eligible to get some kind of discount and you don't know it.

I asked this a while back and was told you could get discounts off some plans but no discounts on the simply everything plans - which for me are the only plans that will work based on the large number of minutes I need - and I don't need a family plan.

[Q] Best place to pre order

Now that we can pre-order at best buy and radio shack and im sure sprint in a couple weeks based on your experiences what do you guys think is the best place to preorder?
I'm still on SERO, so I'm probably going to order from the Sprint store in order to maintain my current plan... I'm not sure how BB or RS deal with contracts like SERO.
I get more discounts through sprint

As long as you are elidgible for an upgrade, it doesn't really matter. Probably the closest store to your house.....
Anywhere other than Best Buy, unless you due for an upgrade. But their bloated retail price makes it a no go for me.
I'm sure they want it that way. They don't make a large margin selling phones at the same price as Sprint, unless they're opening new/renewing contracts, so why bother.
Does Best Buy price match? If they will price match Sprint's full retail price, then getting it there with the reward zone points is probably the best deal.
Bestbuy does pricematch. That's what I plan on doing since I will be paying full price.

RS?
If you preorder at RS, keep in mind they ship the number of preorders +1 until they run out, which is usually right away, RS doesn't have the capacity or overhead to stock enough units, so a preorder is only about a 50% shot that you'll get one. That and all their systems will crash on launch day, I think they use about one 486 CPU with 8mb of ram as their central server..

Radio Shack holds the preorder until you pick it up (I think they give you like 2 days to pick it up after they notify you that it is in stock).
They don;'t just take your preorder and then sell your phone to the first person that comes in asking for one. They hold it for a couple days just like everyone else.
I preordered my OG Evo there last year and they actually set up an appointment for me to come pick it up.

Don't get it from a sprint store if you are on sero!!! I went to get Nexus S for my wife at a corporate sprint store and they do not have access to sero accounts. I tried 3 different corporate stores and they all told me the same thing, they didn't have access and wanted me to either change her plan or buy the phone outright. I ended up upgrading her phone at best buy.

so is BestBuy able to access Sero Plans? I'm coming from an older Sero plan and need to upgrade to a newer "sero Premium" plan and I keep getting conflicting info about who can/cannot acces account? always a problem/issue and long wait when I got to corporate stores tho'.

Best buy can't access your account in their system but they will call sprint and do it over the phone. Sprint corporate stores can't alter or access your account and from my experience they are not willing to try either. If I was you I would call customer service upgrade to sero premium then upgrade your phone at best buy or radio shack which ever you choose.

if you plan on paying full price don't buy from best buy because they will not price match retail. Trust me I tried like 5 best buys and even best buy mobile and they don't price match retail. They said that they don't make money selling the phone outright that's why they price it so high so they can make a profit. I am going to pre order at Sprint because the phone will be 150 cheaper than Best Buy

Hey guys, I apologize in advance if this has been addressed, but the answers I've read thus far seem scattered all over the place...when I purchased my Evo last year at BestBuy on release day, I added a line to my contract and received the full new line discount. I can still add up to three lines on my contract...so I was planning on doing the same for the 3D, already reserved at BestBuy, etc. Will I be able to do everything in the same manner as last year? Any thoughts or info would be greatly appreciated. I've had two different BestBuys give me a yes, a no, and the store in which I reserved it pleading their right to remain silent so to speak. Thanks again guys.

You can add a new line to your account anywhere and the new line will get the new line price. If you are on Sero, you might need to go through Sprint directly.
Awesome, sounds perfectly reasonable, and reflects my thoughts/hopes, thank you sir!

Nah Amazon always have lowest prices. Retail stores can't compete and won't price match Amazon. I still buy from best buy and price match radioshack or lowest retail I can find the Geek Squad protection plan is second to none no deductible $10 a month and brand new replacement even from water damage. So you may save now but lose out on money later.

I actually looked at the details of their plan, there is no where it says you get a straight replacement, they will send it in for repairs if that is necessary. I didn't see anywhere where it says you get a direct replacement. Although it is likely they will replace it, I really hate how every employee at best buy tells you something different, last time I tried to exhange a phone wher gps would never lock and I was within thirty days, one person tried to tell me that is how it is suppose to be. Tried to make a fool out of me and after I talked to the third person, fourth person actually decided to replace it for me.
The offer is $149, in my area at least. And ya, only for new customers. The wirefly friends and family was selling for the same price and was upgrade friendly, for those still looking.
EDIT: I guess I should've re-searched it up. The current price is up to $179- wirefly(DOT)com/eCommerce/SpecialOffer.aspx?cid=26987_584f5c9aca934f7b941e32743e8f2eff

if you kept the packaging and traded it in at radio shack and it was in excellent condition as was mine, the evo 4 got you 158 dollars off on a 3d. so my final in store cost including them incorrectly charging me 12 bucks tax on the original 199.99 instead of the tax on 41 dollars was 54 bucks and some change. beat that
It will be 6-12 months before price drops in my opinion...
These things aren't doing bad yet. My blog has had 3x more hits on the Evo 3D post I made than any other post since Christmas. My local Sprint store's take was "On release day we didn't have the line like we did when the Evo 4G came out", but when I asked for more details it turns out they sold more Evo3Ds than 4Gs (which ran out) the first day, and have had a steady flow of Evo 3D buyers each day since then as reviews have come out. Sprint underestimated the demand for the 4G, and has made sure they have a ready supply of the 3D.

[Q] Best Family Plan Price for Atrix???

So,
I am about to upgrade to my first smartphone from my trusty old nokia flip phone. Naturally, android is my OS of choice and i am now deciding on hardware. Here is where it gets tricky... I am a member of an AT&T Family plan. I am trying to avoid spending big bucks while still getting a good phone. My two choices seem to be the HTC Inspire 4G and the Motorola Atrix. It seems i can get the inspire for 69.99 from amazon wireless, but the Atrix remains at 149.99. Does anyone know the best price i can get an Atrix for on a family plan???
thanks for any advice,
I believe RadioShack has them for 79.99 right now. I could be wrong but even if it goes up it's 149.99
You can try adding a line and keep the new phone for better pricing. Then just rent out the extra line. That's what i did. I charge my friend 30 bucks and only pay 10 a month for his line.

Best Buy has the atrix for 49.99

thanks so far
well,
radioshack is a bust. I am a "added line", so upgrading to the atrix would have been $200+.
I have thought about the adding a new line trick but i really don't think the person that is the head of our plan will go for that.
I am going to checkout bestbuy in person later today. They only have a generic upgrade price on their website, not different ones for individual plans, family plans, and added lines like all the other AT&T distributors seem to have. Perhaps this is good news. I will update this thread with whatever i find.
Any other suggestions in the meantime?
Costco (not sure if changed) but I had early upgrade (18month+ mark) family plan atrix for 129.99 when everywhere else was either 150- $200 for family plan upgrade
The inspire upgrade was even cheaper at like $20 bucks
I second the Costco recommendation. They do a great job, and have a better return policy. And they give a cheap belt clip pouch as well.
From one cloud to another.
Got mine at Costco for $119 back in March.. came with the belt clip(now using otterbox Defender), and a car charger which I liked.
The last time I went to Wal-mart they had the Atrix for 78.88.. And I think Sam's has it close to that price too. They just revamped their cellphone area in the two local Sam's clubs here..
Good Luck

Not sure what the sales person you spoke to was smoking. I've worked at Radioshack for 3 years and we've never charged different prices for "added lines" on AT&T. If you're eligible for an upgrade, you get the upgrade price. It doesn't matter if you phone is line 1, 3, or 5, the price is the same.
Now, we have in the past charged different prices for lines 3-5 on T-MOBILE but, well, the keyword there is T-Mobile.
EDIT (but not really, because I caught it before posting): Oh, I see what you saw. The Radioshack WEBSITE charges more for added lines on a family plan. Pricing does not work this way in the STORE. The online phone orders are fulfilled by a third party for our website, so they have their own rules regarding those things. If you upgrade to an Atrix in a Radioshack retail store, you will get the phone for $79.99.
Got mine at Sam's last week for $74.99.
Thanks all!
Thanks for all the info!
I now understand that in-store prices and online prices varry greatly and as a result will probably be picking my phone up from Best Buy, RadioShack or Sam's Club. I did all my shopping on the websites of the respective businesses which produced very high prices for smart-phones on family plan upgrades. Oh how i miss the days of Newegg and Wirefly ruling the smartphone pricing game.
I will be off to AT&T then best buy and the shack after work to decide between the atrix and the inspire and subsequently pick one up.
Special thanks to darkkterror for the insider info that cleared things up.
Awesome Result!
So,
After all the effort of trying to find the cheapest price for the Atrix in my area i bought it at the AT&T store. But wait... it gets better. I went into AT&T after i got off work to play with both the Atrix and the Inspire to help me decide which phone i preferred. Atrix won. At that point i asked the employees that worked at the AT&T store which one they preferred and 3 out of 4 had the Atrix. The deal was sealed. I then proceeded to tell one of the saleswoman that i was going to head out to BestBuy or RadioShack to buy the phone because it was cheaper at those locations. To which she responded; "oh, we do price matching!" I didn't even have to leave the store and i picked up the Atrix for all of $25 before tax. I don't even know why she gave it to me for that price, which sounds more like price-match/2.
I think the key to this story is what i overheard while i was being rung up at the cash register. Apparently stores in the same area compete for most sales. But they don't compete for most profit brought in, oh no, that would make far too much sense. Instead they compete for most devices sold! Thus making the price that they charge you for the phone irrelevant to the people ringing you up at the cash register. Definitely a good bit of knowledge to have when haggling with sales reps.

HTC EVO 4G LTE @ BestBuy

Anyway...
Seems that just in the last hour or so, BestBuy has put up this page:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/HTC+-+E...93&st=htc evo 4g lte&cp=1&lp=1&contract_desc=
Looks like I can get to bestbuy, use my bestbuy card, and pre-order after all. It was beginning to seem that Bestbuy was not doing pre-orders.
Good news good news!

I was just about to order from best buy, but I did a web chat with CSR and asked about 50$ gift card. He said that's only in-store. That's fine with me, as I only shop brick and mortar, but thought others may wanna know.

that regular price seems a bit steep. hopefully i can get the discount
what benefits are there to pre ordering with Best Buy? based from past experience, it assures you a phone at launch, but for the same price wouldn't you just pre order with Sprint and get it a couple days earlier(potentially)? unless you have a gift card or something
I know with the OG Evo and pre ordering thru radio shack, the nice part was radio shack processed the 100$ rebate in-store. I didn't have to mail the rebate in and wait 2mo for it in the mail. But, that may not be relevant anymore, as it appears the rebate is pre-processed with online sales.
That said, waiting for rebate in mail can be good, too. With my diamond, I got a rebate for 400 something dollars. Somehow the rebate center thought it was for 4 devices. Nice surprise in the mail, that's for sure.

I just got back from pre-ordering mine at my local best buy. I just had to pay $50, sort of a down payment but I got the $50 gift card. On the receipt it says the estimated date to pick up is May 18th but he said it could change.

Hate to say it, but you got ripped off my friend. Or maybe not. For this launch, BB doesn't require the downpayment (at least they didn't for me or anyone else I talked to - might be a regional thing though). All BB preorders get a $50 gift card without the downpayment, which you'll recieve when you purchase the phone. This gift card can then be used towards the cost of the phone - bringing the cost of the phone down to $150 if preordered at BB. Having said that, hopefully you'll still revive the extra $50 gift card when you go in to buy the phone.
Keep things on topic no Flame Wars
i got back from bestbuy.
NO MONEY was given.
they asked if im upgrading, zip, email, name, and printed out a sheet of paper detailing my reserved phone. they'll email me when its there.
they also give you a printout of available accessories for the phone on release date, otter case, n some other chit.
i guess i'll pay for it when it gets there, they said the gift card is given if you trade in your EVO. i was like, nahh. i was one of 2 people @ 2pm. (edit, sounds like bestbuys arent on the same page)
i dont think many people are excited about this phone or know about it.
either way, cool with me, saves me money until it arrives.
i wanted to walk out with that asus transformer prime/or t300
theyre speculating 18th, friday release too.
Same here. Just walked out of best buy. No money exchanged hands. No gift card. Just a paper reservation. Which has the wrong name in it, I noticed halfway home. A diff line/name/number on my family plan. Need to get this sorted out. They were selling Evo 4gs for 99$. I was surprised to see that. Almost got one for my mom for mothers day. But I'm thinking galaxy nexus for her. That way if Evo never gets flash friendly, I'll just trade her phones lol

Well if that's the case, I didn't get screwed over. I just bought myself a gift card. Which I don't really see the point in but at least I didn't have to pay for the whole phone right there.
I also got the "no gift card, no money exchanged" version of the pre-order at BB.
Do I have to get insurance with BB if I want insurance, or can I still get it elsewhere? Any suggestions?

the original evo 4g release at best buy was a joke.
sprint systems were bogged making activation an hourly issue, bestbuy was allowing later numbered people skip.
i hope this time around its a little more smooth.

mine was down payment. Paid $50 for a giftcard which I could then use to pay down the phone. Wasn't until recently that I read that you also get another $50 giftcard upon activation of the phone. I don't see it as a ripoff though, $50 is pocket change to me.

That's not a very flattering statement. But regardless, I would love some of your pocket change if it is so insignificant to you. Most people would have their day made if they found $50 on the street.
Similar experience at BB. Info given at 6 pm, got my paper, no money exchanged. 2nd in line (woman next to me was 1st), Will receive e-mail when it's in. Will cost 50$ to get the phone assuming im trading in my Evo. Through Sprint it would have cost me around 130$ or more depending on how much value the Evo loses over the next few days. No brainer there.

preorded today instore at best buy
no deposit (per the email they looked at in the system)
filled out paperwork just like i would on a normal upgrade
got confirmation (email and physical)
left my phone number and time i expected to pick it up (assuming it stays on 5/18 launch)
I didn't ask about $50 wireless freedom or $50 preorder, but that right there should drive price to $100, then add in $10 Google Wallet and possibly $50+ in trade in.
well done

How's that not flattering? Used to be a time when nice cellular phones weren't owned by everyone. I don't necessarily miss that. People have their priorities so far out of whack, it is absurd. If $50 is a lot of money to someone maybe they shouldn't be dropping $4000+ a year on cellular services and its accompanying toys.
Hell I commented on a post earlier about a guy taking no interest financing for 18 months on a sub $500 tablet. A lot of what is wrong with the current economy in the US. People living beyond their means. Feeling entitled. Always having to get the latest and greatest. Saddens me
I bought 2 for $250 shipped no tax. Considered paying for express shipping, but that would have negated my good deal by $40.

I completely agree with your comments about living our of their means. I also agree that this country is messed up that way. I am a teacher in a high school just outside of Chicago, and while 80% of my students are on free or reduced lunch, 100% of them own a cell phone (and about 80% are smartphones from my estimation). I find this to be both disturbing and indicative of our messed up system.
Anyway, I just didn't feel that flaunting the insignificance of x dollar amount was real classy. Maybe it was to make a larger point, to me it came off as very smug. I don't care how rich you are, saving $50 if the option is present should mean something to you, in my opinion.
