help to identify this icon? - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

I have been in the android scene for just under a year (since the release of the skyrocket)
I have an icon in my system tray today that i have never seen before. I have not added any new apps in over 2 weeks so nothing is new.
I have AVAST antivirus on my phone and that corner is where i normally have an orange dot to show the AV is running. I went into avast to see if anything was different but all looks normal.
Anyone see this icon before?

Are you talking about the minus sign thing in the top left corner? That is like an opt-in thing for Samsung data bug logging or something. Click on it and you will see.

no, but your clock icon and settings icon drive me nuts! you can get to settings with the menu button and the clock by clicking on the time on your widget. This would give you space for some different icons lol. Sorry, im a loser.

I'll be damned. Your right, that widget doesn't take you to the clock. Just about every other clock on the market does though when you click on the time. And weather if you click on it etc...
I use a widget like "One More Clock Widget" which allows you to set it to open any app depending on where you click.
Here is one of the skins that comes with it.

How do YOU organize your apps?

Just out of curiosity, what are your ideas for productive apps organization? Do you keep the most frequently used straight on your home screen, or in categorized folders? Maybe you're using a third-party app to manage them efficiently?
I've been playing around with the look of my Hero's screens, and I've came up with these layouts:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
On the home screen I keep my most frequently used apps, and on the second one, settings toggle widgets, the second most frequently used apps and favorite apps organized into four folders. Besides those two screens I have three others occupied by HTC widgets.
I used to organise things on my screens, and in folders, but then I found out that none of the backup tools are able to back up the layout.
So now I've switched to using Apps Organiser to arrange everything, and I like it better.
Dropbox? How? What? Where?

I found the lag annoying too. So now once i start my phone i quickly open each label, then leave Apps Organiser running in the background. Then when i open a label its immediate and has no lag.

I've got two questions regarding this subject:
Is there a way to sort folder's content alphabetically?
Is there a way to (re)organize the drawer?
How you take screen capture of your Hero?
Using the SDK. The Screenshot app did not work on my Hero.
How do you get the dropbox icon to appear? I've created a browser shortcut (to the same iPhone URL) but even if I insert this as a quicklaunch icon it looks like a standard icon.
Cheers

Works only on MoDaCo's custom ROMs (so I've heard!). I'm on MCR 2.3 and it's working just fine (as it did on 2.2).
Ok, so I'm running a standard UK Vodafone Hero with the 2.73 fw upgrade - but I'm not going to be able to run BetterCut? PITA.
Don't fancy my chances of playing around with the modaco stuff. Ho hum ...

[Q] Drop Down Toggles

Does anyone know if it will be possible to have toggles for wifi/bt/gps/silent/data in the notification drop down like other phones have?
You can download Widgetsoid and when you make a Widget it will give you the option of adding it to the notification bar.
When it's there, though, and you click on something it will open a new little popup window to press the buttons..kinda weird, dunno why it does that.
You need this ------>
Extended Controls

This prevents notification bar widgets from directly controlling phone functions then? So it's safe to assume Extended Controls would do the same?

i don't think that does what the OP wants, which is toggles within the notification bar (ala Samsung phones).
as far as i've seen, we can only have the clickable pop-up widget version that was described above.
This has come up before..
This is good as your gonna get Notification Toggle
I use BATTERY GAUGE. it has a drop down menu when activated and shoes me battery percent. A must have app IMO

Yeah I guess I was spoiled with my samsung (before this thread I was not aware this was a samsung only feature). I really miss this feature... wish it came standard on all androids. The closest one to what I want is notification toggle, but it's still more clicks to what I want.
widgetsoid is closet that I can get,I too hate how we have to do at least two clicks instead of one like on CM7. But at least it's close and looks clean

Yea it kinda sucks. You still have to use the widget, so the drop down notification is useless. In my opinion. I had a infuse 4g for 1 day and that was the only feature I liked on the phone..

the dropdown controls for the captivate are awesome, I haven't seen an app in the market yet that could replace these. If anyone could make this it would be awesome!

Getting Rid of Carrier Tag on Notification Bar.

Is there a way to get rid of the carrier name on the notification bar? It seems like it takes up valuable space for actual notifications.
Do you have it there from flashing a theme or has it been there since stock? What carrier?

Carrier ID seems to show only on the lockscreen, and when notifications are pulled down.
It's not that obtrusive, IMO, but it's something AOSP roms can change.

FYI... I don't have my SGSIII yet, so I'm basing this entire response on my knowledge of ICS in general, not TouchWiz
Are you talking about some kind of carrier name in the notification bar or in the notification pull-down?
If you're talking about the pull-down menu, it may not actually "take up valuable space for actual notifications" if it works like the carrier name in stock ICS works... On stock, it shows up at the bottom of the pull-down, but you can see as you pull it down, that it actually appears behind the notifications themselves. So if TouchWiz works this way, you have nothing to worry about.
If you're talking about the notification bar, then I don't know what you mean, since I don't have mine yet. If this is what you mean, I obviously cant help you, but I'd still be interested in seeing a picture of what youre talking about. I don't see anything like that in the pictures from engadget's reviews...

Oh I see, so it shows up in the notification bar when the pull down the menu is activated
In that case, Samsung just moved it from the bottom of the pull-down to the notification bar itself. It doesn't seem like it should be a problem though, since you can see all of the notifications in greater detail at that point anyway. You don't need to see the little icons anymore when you can see the notifications themselves. No?

No, AT&T has a deal with their phones that their carrier name be in the notification bar. This is the same for the Galaxy S2, Skyrocket, and any other phones on AT&T. You can't get rid of it unless you obviously flash a custom ROM that disables it or an AOSP ROM.

[JB] Transparent Weather app 4x2

Here is a transparent accuweatherwidget 4x2
Working well on my phone after some adjustments to make it look good on S Advance
Note: if the default screen of 4x4 is change, to 4x5, sadly it squishes the app so things don't look quite right. this is made for standard 240 dpi.
Install with CWM or TWRP (mount system first).

Because of 5x3, the last updated line has gone too down from the forecasts :/

yea it does get messed up if the default dpi for phone is different from 240... on roms with the 4x5 screen the 4x2 is not as deep as on standard 4x4 screen. would need to change a lot of stuff to make it fit LOL... maybe when I gots time..

It's Google Now
Next time you see it and pull down your shade, pay attention. It'll either be a new card or an updated card. That's the pattern I've noticed.
