It seems my power adaptor has died..
I have been using it daily with no problem, and charged it over night last night.
I got a new stand today and moved the power supply to a new location, shifting the transformer with the adaptor still plugged in.
From that point on, no charging...
the cable is good cos it still shows up on the PC, although I guess it could be partially broken.
I have tried leaving the power adaptor unplugged for an hour or so, but no luck.
Anyone else have suggestions?
Is it possible that you bent a pin in the slot on the pad that you plug the charger into? Alternatively, you could take apart and reseat the 2 pieces
of the charger itself.
Pins in the pad seem fine, same on the charger.
I just turned it off to see if I could get it to charge from a USB hub on my PC, but it seems not.
This points to the cable being at fault, but with no replacements available I am still stuck with a discharging tablet.
Very Frustrating... I guess I will be Calling Asus support on Monday.

charging thru a PC usb hub is slow...the ac adapter is rated at 15v 1.2a...and a PC hub is only 5v .5a i think...
Anyone know what the adapters for the other tablets are rated at?

I realise its slow, but I would expect SOMETHING after leaving the TF plugged in for almost an hour turned off!
This might sound ridiculous but unplug the usb cable from the power brick, unplug the power brick from the wall, set them aside....then wait a while (20+ minutes), then come back to it and try to plug it back in.
I had this same exact problem but I did the steps I told you and it began charging again. I'm not sure how or why though.

I left it for a while, but I shall try again.
EDIT: On second thoughts, no this isn't the case.
Plugging in the PSU normally turns the tablet on, and currently it isnt doing that.
Bum.
What is your battery percentage at? Anything above 90, and it won't charge until it drops below. Kind of a built in failsafe.

Ah yes, it is above 90%, but I am sure it would show the charging icon?

Nope, won't show the charging icon. What I've done, if you want to ease the paranoia, lol, is hold the power button down and keep holding until the device shuts off completely. (do this with the plug disconnected) .. Now, plug the charger back in to the device. The device should power on, and you should boot up to a charging icon.
If it doesn't start up, then yeah, you may have a faulty charger. Let me know how it goes.

Worth a try, but no, nothing...
Then just let it run down passed 90% (like 88-89%) and see if it charges. If not, then yeah, sorry.

No it does seem to be the PSU, I have used my Desire charger to charge the TF overnight, and got it back to 100%
Looks like I will be calling Asus on Monday

Little tip for you all... don't leave it charging overnight. It may be a bit late advice for some, but for others it might help them ending up with a useless power adapter. Unplug it when it gets to 100%. Get an app that alerts you with a sound, signaling when the battery is full. Battery monitor widget does this. Also unplug it soon after its done charging. This is assuming you don't care about battery life of course.
If you DO care about it then charging it up to 100% all the time isn't a good way to keep your battery healthy in the first place. Loads of guides on the web for Lithium Ion battery care.
There's obviously a problem with the adapter design, due to the amount of threads talking about this very issue, when people leave them charging all night. Maybe they are overheating, or some other reason. Prevention is better than cure.

Over heating might well be the issue, I am getting that sweet smell of cooked circuit board from the PSU.
Not meaning it to charge over night will be annoying, I like things ready to go come the AM

Yeah I agree it shouldnt happen. Just saying I think it is. Pretty sure there are guidelines and safety features that are applied to all power supplies to make them safe for use in the home, at least there are in the EU, and it seems these ones are in violation of those guidelines, even though they have the CE approved label. If you are smelling something burning/melting its obviously faulty and needs to be replaced.
Well I tried comet for the warrenty and was directed to the asus support line, which is closed today.

Is using the Desire charger just as slow at using a normal (5V) USB hub?
I'm no engineer but aren't there safeguards built into a charger/battery that is operating normally? ie: put TF on charger overnight, battery draws power till full then stops charging?
I use my TF all day, at night it goes on the charger, at no time does my charger get "hot" to the touch.

I am having an issue similar to another user.There is a question mark in my battery indicator and the only way it turns on is when I have it plugged in. The other user opened up his G tablet and unplugged the power supply then plugged it back in. Can somebody let me know exactly where they cord I have to unplug is? Thanks.

Did you ever figure this out? I'm assuming it's the jack with multi-colored wires coming out of the battery, but unplugging/plugging this back up didn't fix my problem.
is is the multicolored wire that was talked about. I have never heard of this fixing this problem though. What I would try is to completely drain your battery. Then charge it fully all the way till the light turns green. Then open up CWM and go into the advanced settings. Click on reset battery status or something to that extent. Make sure the tablet is unplugged. Hopefully it will fix your battery stats.
I dunno about Dirty Bird, but mine won't run without being plugged into the charger. So there is no way to discharge the battery.
When I plug the charger into the G-tablet, the LED which is supposed to show green or red doesn't light up at all.
I am really disgusted about this - especially now that I've opened the case. Grrr.

I am now reading over some threads about the power connector - I reckon it's possible that it is disconnected, although if the tablet is getting power through it, it seems to me that the battery should be getting power for recharging as well. But I am certainly no expert!
Edit: Checked the connector and it seems to be okay, firmly connected to the board and the solder looks okay to me. :/
Ever since sometime yesterday or something. My phone has been steadily discharging whilst plugged in.
I charged my phone to full yesterday and noticed that it was charging a bit slowly.. but eventually it got there.
Then I unplugged it and plugged in a really low battery (4%) to charge it to full overnight (I have 2 batteries)
I woke up to the phone at 26% after an entire night of charging (about 8 hours).
I thought that the battery must be dead. It's a cheap one from Ebay but it has the official sticker on it, but it's a bit creased so it looks like it could be a cheaper one with a fake sticker on it. It always used to last about 20% less than the original one I got with the phone anyway. But that isn't the point.
I thought it must be dead. But I charged it a little before work and nope, it just kept dying. So I started worrying if the charger had died.
Then I just swapped the battery out and decided to use the fully charged one.
After about a days use I went to plug it in and it ALSO started discharging whilst being plugged in.
In fact they seem to discharge FASTER if plugged in.
I immediately thought that the little Wall Socket to USB Adapter had just blown. So I unplugged it and just plugged the phone in via my PC's USB 2.0 Port.. Same thing.. it sits on the same Percentage (%) and then gradually (if I use it at all) it starts to discharge.
It's charging so slowly that if I use it at the same time it'll die. When before I could even have a Skype call and keep it plugged in and it would overcharge through the amount of power I was using.
Does anyone have any ideas? It can't be the battery because both of them are dying no matter one, and they can't have both died. It might not be the little USB charger (although it no longer gets hot like it used to) because if I plug the phone straight into a USB port on my PC (I know the mW is lower but it should still prove if the charger is dead or not) then it still discharges.
Any ideas? I mean... it looks like somehow the USB port is no longer taking a charge? Without my phone I am a dead man.. it will totally mess up my work and everything...
Have you used a different cable? You said you plugged it into your PC USB port but you didn't say with which cable.
I don't have another cable :/ as it's a proprietary one... I can't just use some normal micro USB..
9/10 it's the cable that's the fault.
It's not proprietary. I walked into a shop and said "2 micro USB cables please" and they both work better. Also my HTC and blackberry micro USB cables both work better. Try another cable. Borrow one if you have to

I have a micro USB cable.. it's for my HDD and it doesn't fit. It's a little bit too big. The last HDD I had too was the same, just a bit too big. Maybe it's not proprietary but I'm pretty sure it's smaller than the traditional Micro USB.
Also, I tried doing a file copy from the phone to my PC and back and forth. The speed is totally fine, really fast.
So could it still really be the phone? I'm a pessimist and I don't see why the cable would just suddenly die... I've already had my phone replaced on one of the 'sudden death' issues like everyone else. I wouldn't be surprised if there's yet another hardware fault...
At the moment it's off, and charging from the wall.
EDIT: Maybe it's a Mini-USB not a Micro.. in that case I have 1 Micro USB. Still I think my phone just died somehow overnight................. again.

no, your phone uses a traditional micro USB. and data speed is not really connected to charging speed
New cord seems to have fixed it. 'Hama' brand (Finnish) triple shielded, with some gold plated connectors. Looks a lot higher quality than the traditional Samsung one. (Unshielded, no gold plating)
Also it's a bit longer, which I dunno if that will affect the rate of current. I know that shorter is better. It's 1.8m vs the older 1m.
Seems to be charging properly now, still a bit slow (phone is off) but I suppose that could just be the battery getting used to actually receiving a proper current finally.
Christ and I almost went and just bought an iPhone...
If in the end it was just the cord then €12.95 bought me peace of mind.

It won't charge if the phone is on at the same time... it just sits at the same level of power. But if I use it, yeah it starts to discharge.
So basically it's lost the ability to charge whilst being used, and on top of that it did charge pretty slowly when turned off, but at least it did.
Looks like I'm going to have to sort out a way to fix it, then maybe sell it and get something else. I can't handle a phone that's such a disappointment.
The Galaxy S2 was a bit of a let down, to RMAs to Samsung now...

I'm really confused now. The battery I got off the net doesn't seem to be charging really at all, but ever so slowly when the phone is off.
The other battery, my normal OEM one charged sorta slowly but kinda normally I guess..
Really don't know what on earth is going on. It's going to be a total pain to get this thing repaired a second time, and it's been rooted and flashed multiple times. Plus it has the new bootloader on it that you can't possibly trick that it's been rooted.. (was installed after a fix on warranty)
So the oem battery charges normally?

Why not download the Galaxy Charging Current app and see if your SIII is charging at 1000mA using wall charger?

Now this is really confusing. I'm gonna do some testing now:
On the cheaper battery Ebay Battery Using New 1.8m Shielded Cable With the OEM Wall Charger
If I plug the cord straight in from the wall charger without moving it the power starts off at 1000, then goes down to about 900, then after awhile to about 400, and then after awhile longer to 100. But I can't be sure that I am not bumping the cord even a tiny bit. Also the battery is at 94% so it could just be shutting off the charge in order to not overcharge. (Though before the issue the batteries always charged to 100%).
If I move the cord around and tap refresh the number drops by 100 - 200 every time I press refresh (all the way down to 100). Also if I move the cord perfectly back into the middle, the number doesn't go back up. It's like the more I move the cord around the lower the charge will be. If I leave the phone alone for a bit and look at it again after a minute, the rate has gone back up to 1000, then down to 900. Where it seems to stay.
The statusbar battery app shows that it is charging too (% is going up as normal)
At 97% charged on the cheap battery the phone only accepts a maximum current of 300. So it seems that the overcharge protection is working.
Though the battery can display fully charged and then drop to 97% after I unplug the cord. Which didn't happen before but it's an understandable thing.
Summery:
Moving the cord a lot causes the rate to drop dramatically.
When plugged in the current starts off at a full 1000, then drops to 900 (dunno if this is normal) so it seems to start off charging at max
The max concurrent, current that can be achieved from the wall charger with new shielded cable is 900-100 it seems.
The phone seems to discharge faster when plugged in (and current on 100) than when it's unplugged??!
Could someone please install the free app (Galaxy Charging Current), who isn't experiencing issues like me and wiggle their cord around and see if the rate drops too? The current rate only drops when the cord is moved, and here is the crucial thing:
When the cord is moved the rate drops anywhere from 100 all the way to 900. Meaning that the rate of charge can go from 1000 (max) down to 100 (absolutely nothing). Either in 1 go, or in bits every time the cord moves. Also if the cord moves EVEN ONCE, even the smallest bit the rate can just drop on its own.
So basically it seems that somehow there charging port has been damaged or something and the pins are no longer connecting and the phone or charger or SOMETHING has this incredibly bloody stupid thing where if the cord moves or if the rate drops, it doesn't go back up. So if the rate drops all the way to 100, it won't increase or go back to normal after a certain amount of time.
Or maybe I am wrong.. because if I push the cord even a little towards the back of the phone the charging light goes off completely, and the rate hits 0. Whereas if I pull it towards the front of the phone, the rate stays constant (at max) but if I take my hand off it, the rate drops to about halfway or really low. It just seems like the little connectors inside the phone are really.. really flimsy and loose. It obviously got damaged somehow. Either by constant connecting and disconnecting or bending or just you name it.
So does anyone have any suggestions? I might try and clean the inside of it with nail polish remover or something in case they're just dirty but I doubt it will do much. It seems definitely like the plug just doesn't fit in and connect well enough any more and that's where the power is being lost. It's gotten a bit loose, but really nothing out of the ordinary.
I can confirm that putting it in such a position where there is absolutely no chance for the cord to move at all, allows the phone to receive a constant rate of the highest possible charge.
I guess I could try and make the fit a bit more snug myself but it would be only really temporary.
I think I just need to get it serviced again, but I am not sure that I could because it's got a custom rom, it's rooted and it's already been repaired for one of those 'sudden death' issues already...
How generous is Samsung with their warranties?
Either way this is a terrible blow for me, I need my phone to pay my bills and stay connected with my work and friends. If I can't have it plugged in and still be able to move it around and use it. Then it's basically useless.
At least for now it seems to be charging okay just sitting completely still on the table.

I am having the same issue as you, I have been managing to get it charged using my ipad charger which is stronger but it sometimes still doesn't charge with that. Last night I put it on charge and it turned off due to dead battery in the middle of the night. Did you manage to fix this?

Since no one replied with a solution I will let you know my fix. I sent it to Samsung for repair under warranty and they have fixed the issue. It is due back tomorrow. Just so anyone else having this issue knows its covered under warranty.
I've got the same issue. At first i thought it was the custom ROM acting up. But even after unrooting it and going back to the stock firmware its still the same. The only way i can charge my phone is by switching it off nd plugging it in. Cuz no matter what i try, if the phone is switched on,the battery still drains. Couple of my friends had the same issue too.They ended up buying new phones. Guess this is a standard fault with all Samsung phones. If anyone's got a fix,do pass it on.

I´m having the same problem. I flashed my S3 i9300 to a cianogenmod 11 ROM. It's a relief to know it's not the ROM. The technical service prom the phone companies here really suck, so i'm taking my S3 to a third party cellphone technician and tell you if he solved my problem.

dear poster I have a solution that may work for you ,first thing take the battery out of the phone and leaving the battery out plug the charger in .leave it that way for about an hour .then unplug phone pop battery in turn the phone on .the replug the charger while the phone is still on and see if it charges better .

I recently purchased a used Droid Razr Maxx from a co-worker. The lcd screen was cracked so I replaced it. I took apart the phone completely and reassembled it with the new screen in place. The phone turns on just fine, the Motorola icon shows up and it gets to the charging battery icon with 5%, but after a few hours of letting it charge, it stays at 5% and wont turn on. Keep in mind, the phone has been charging for two hours from the time this post was made.
My question is, did I somehow damage the battery when operating internally? I can replace the battery if needed.
Another question. If I damaged the motherboard, would the phone turn on at all?
I am kind of wondering if there is a certain thing I needed to do before plugging it in.
To answer any questions that might be asked: The battery was completely dead when I did repair the screen. The charger is a wall usb charger, not plugged into my computer. I did place all the components inside the phone, to the best of my knowledge. I have had experiences when it comes to internal repair.
check for how long this 5% charge remain. it usually happen due to problematic battery guage

Morning now. The battery is still at 5%. The phone shuts off soon as the charger is not connected. Does not seem to hold a charge. Think I should buy a new one?

It could be a faulty charger.
Normally, If the battery is poor, it won't hold charge but it won't stick to a particular percentage. It will only discharge sooner. But given the fact you got the phone dead, it might as well be the battery.
Worst scenario, you damaged the charging port.
I'd begin with using a different charger, if that doesn't work, try another battery.

I have used other chargers and they all work for my other phones, just not this one. I am hoping it's a dead battery and not something to do with the motherboard. My friend wont let me dismantle his phone to see if it's the batter, lol.
Just the clarify, the phone doesn't boot up completely, only to the charging screen. The battery icon with 5% shown. When I unplug the phone from the charging screen, it just dies. Will not even boot up to the phone animation.
I purchased a battery replacement off of Ebay. It'll arrive in a few days. Let's hope this works!

This phone can be picky. First razr I got had broken screen, repaired it and found myself in the same situation.
Connecting to a laptop would not charge it. Only stock charger. IPhone charger or chargers designed for iphones will not work.
Edit: When replacing battery, position is critical. If battery terminals are a little bit displaced it will not turn on.
Displacement can be minimal or imperceptible but will cause troubles. If possible don't place cover before checking that it turns on. (please avoid touching circuits or battery terminals or will get worse).

That was exactly the problem....
I got the new battery, but not 24 hours later, I was realigning the cables inside it (like the front facing and rear cameras, along with the WiFi antenna) I slightly moved the replaced battery and the cable to the battery to the motherboard tore itself. After a long face-palm moment, I got the old battery back in place and realigned it very carefully. It turns out it still works, but I am out a new battery.
Apart from the battery, I need to find out why the front speaker won't work. Either the speaker is damaged or something needs to be in place correctly, besides the cable. Also need to get some adhesive gel to bond the screen and case together.
Damn I really had forgotten about that speaker. The fact is it tends to break. It has very fine copper wire winding that can break when you remove it the wrong way.
Having no experience I pulled not knowing that speaker is glued to motherboard. At that time I didn't knew it and thought that little bar left was part of the motherboard.
Since you disassembled almost everything, that must be the reason it is failing. If it is not that, it is badly plugged but I really doubt it.
Alas Never fixed it, so i can't tell correct process to reassemble or disassemble that speaker. Instead I searched for apps that would activate loud speaker automatically during calls.
Would have been nice to fix it but I got the opportunity to acquire a RAZR maxx so never touched and sold instead.
Removing that glue might involve using a hot air gun. So that you don't damage motherboard removing by force. (But again too much heat could Fry motherboard)
Maybe someone could share it's experience?
About that screen, Remember to have read about a 3m adhesive spray in some thread.
Also some one just passed hot air that melted original glue but it would be better not to play with heat over a battery.

Mario here with some phone problems..
I have a CDMA Evo 3D running on the stock ROM.
The phone's charging cable was shorting out ever since I bought it (got it 2nd hand). I had to wiggle it in order to get the phone charging.
I gave it to my girlfriend to use it for taking pictures n whatnot while outside of town. She returned it kinda Rambo-ish; the front of the phone basically fell apart.. the front metal grill surrounding it, at least.
Phone worked fine, except for the cable shorting out even more. My laptop shut down every time that happened, so I'm quite sure that's not what caused the problem I'll be explaining later on in this thread.
So let's get to the point, shall we?
My phone was really low on battery, something within the range of 2-5%. I tried charging it, but the wires shorted out again and the laptop died on me.. again, and again, and again..
I couldn't really bother with fiddling around with it until it starts, so I just unplugged it and left it that way.
The phone sat for a few days, my (main) laptop broke, so I decided to give the good ol' Facebook Messenger a go.. sadly, the phone would not turn on or start charging.
I removed the shrink-like wrap around the wires of the USB cable, cut the bad parts and twisted the color-matching wires in order. Sadly, the phone would still not charge.
I tried with another (self-made) USB cable... no luck whatsoever. Just to clarify; the blue wire on the one the phone comes with is ground, right? If not that could of caused the problem, since I connected the blue wire on the mini-usb to the black one on a standard USB plug.
I tried juicing the phone up a tad bit by running 5V on the battery for 15 minutes or so.. didn't really bother going for more, since it's kinda hard to keep 2 wires pressed against the battery for more than that. The phone powered up, but the display did not. There was the low battery sound, volume keys were functional, vibrating feedback was okay.. hell, the phone even took a screenshot when I pressed power button + volume down!
Sadly, that didn't solve anything.. even turned on, it would not charge. The 15-minute charge is good for a minute of red blinking light and fancy glowing buttons, nothing more.
Is the phone dead, or should I give it a hour charge directly and see how that goes?

I am looking for more opinions before I spend cash I don't have on chargers that may not work.
If you or someone else is positive about the display not working because of not enough battery juice, then I'll manually charge the battery for an hour, even though it's uncomfortable as hell to hold 2 wires on the pins for that long.
What's bugging me is that it's not charging once it has just enough juice to power up everything, no display either. I'd like to know if it's doing that, because the battery is too dead to actually start charging up via the phone and whether the display just doesn't work or there's not enough juice for it.
Edit; I bought a chinese charger that charges the battery directly (2pins). The display still does not work and the phone will still not charge via the cable. Could it be a bad cable (and a dead display..)? It seems like the phone itself is responsive - I unlock it, press the "search" button and when I type on the keyboard (that I don't see), it vibrates with every pressed key.
Also, I can hear it taking a screenshot and the volume down/up buttons seem to be working fine.

this is exactly what's been going on with my phone as of a few days ago.
checked the time while it was plugged in, unplugged it...screen froze.
hasn't turned back on since.
the buttons on bottom light up, though.
i can take calls, use my unlock pattern (it takes me a few tries now that i can't see anything) and press the search key for google now.
for all intents and purposes...phone's fully functional...except i can't see anything going on.
i brought my phone into a sprint corp store, they changed the top housing for me screen and all for free.
it was really nice.
but, that didn't change anything.
screen still doesn't change anything.
they said the board probably shorted on screen lead.
have you figured anything out?

Nope, I'm still in the same situation.
Does yours charge?
My phone isn't recognized by my laptop at all, so I'm guessing something is indeed fried. I don't have the appropriate screwdrivers to open it up and inspect the board, otherwise I'd open it up and check it out.
If you have Torx T5 & T3 screwdrivers you should give it a go - post some decent-res pics over here and I'll at least visually inspect it.
I genuinely don't feel like spending more money for tools n whatnot for a phone that may be permanently dead.. planning on getting a second-hand S4 anyways. Waiting on a student loan and smashing this phone to pieces as soon as I get the cash for a new one. Can try and help out for yours if you manage to open it, though. Could be something as simple as a dead resistor that shouldn't be too hard to replace.
I tried the hillbilly method and hit my phone a few times against a wooden bench, that didn't seem to fix it. Pretty positive something's fried, but I'm also guessing it isn't a viable component, having in mind the phone functions normally, even though the display & usb port don't work.. hell, my phone woke me up at 3AM today, 'cause the alarm went off, lol!
