[Q] help moving data from htc desire to gs3 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I moved from htc desire to the gs3 and would like to know what is the best method to move contacts, call logs and sms's to the gs3
Thanks for reading !

Try Titanium Backup , it can backup more than just contacts , logs ..

Yes i used it and all done. It's a bit tricky to find which file contains logs, sms, contacts etc. Didn't want to overwrite os files since desire is froyo and gs3 is ICS
Thanks !

[Q] WhatsApp restore question

Hi there,
I was wondering if it is possible to restore a previous backup so my chats will come back again. I had some important messages backed up and I would like to see them again.
I have placed the backup files in the whatsapp backup and database folder and when I reinstalled whatsapp it had asked me to restore using an old backup and so I did click ok but the chats never appeared.
I would be very greatful if you could help me restore them.
Thank you.

I got the same issues with old chats not restoring after installing whatsapp. I created a backup before and can see this file in the database folder. Tried moving to the backup folder but makes no difference.
Anyone got a fix?
When you reinstall whatsapp and the backup folder is in the same place on the SD card as when you backed up... I think whatsapp is supposed to ask you if you wanna restore when you go through the whole installation process. I normally just titanium backup just to be safe, but the whatsapp method should work with whatsapp.

confused about backing up

ok iv searched about and read the threads that popped up under where i typed the title.
when i got my S2 the first thing i did was flash the litening rom, iv been using it for a couple of months got loads of apps, texts, numbers and emails on there.
now on my old htc i had an app which did a backup of all my contacts texts emails etc called pim backup, worked ok on that phone, maybe a bit slow and crap but hey did the job.
right i fancy trying out a new rom, iv read that there are programs etc for backing up my rom incase of a problem, and programs to back up apps etc so i dont need to re download, whats gonna happen to my texts and emails?
any help or even a shove in the direction of a guide that i cant find will be appreciated
You do a full backup of your ROM (including personal stuff) with ClockWorkMod-recovery.
For single apps I recommend titanium backup. Note that your messages and such may not be compatible to other roms. For example, you cannot restore the messages from a TW-ROM into MIUI.

ok well im currently running a backup on clockworkmod so this will do all my texts emails etc etc so when the new rom is installed i do the same but with restore??
and ill then be on a new rom, but with everything still on my phone (apart from any apps) which i restore thru titanium.
and i shall go look for this titanium backup right now.
thankyou very much
ooohh to add, is this clockworkmod backup, also backing up all my media files, like pictures, music, videos??

No because teh restore restore teh whole rom not just yoru SMS.
You dont need to backup your contacts etc as they are synced with yoru google acount.
If you want to backup/restore SMS you can use a SMS Backup & Restore
If you want to backup/restore your apps/app data you can use Titanium Backup.
When you install a new ROM your data (photos, ...) won't be touched.
ClockWorkMod will restore the entire ROM.
You have to be careful when restoring SMS'. If your ROM uses another app for messages, it won't be compatible.

[Q] Change phone and backup/restore best method

Hi guys,
next days i will change my htc sensation XE with galaxy nexus and i need to make a perfect backup/restore between the phones.
My idea is to not lose the data of any application and hope that restore are succesfully due to "microsd" vs "no microsd" internal memory phones.
Titanium backup remain the best software or there are valid lternatives ?
Thank you
It's recommended not to restore application data between phones/ROMs. It can cause a lot of force closes, incompatibilities and errors. Also, you need to be rooted to restore data. You should always do a clean install when you get a new phone, which just involves adding your Google account, letting the phone restore contacts, apps, settings etc automatically, and then reconfiguring all your apps. It doesn't take too long to do that if you do it quickly. For the SD contents, don't backup the entire card and restore it to the new phone. Just backup your personal files like pictures, videos, music, downloads etc and copy them back to the new phone. Don't copy any folders when you don't know what they're for. It won't cause any problems if you do, but there'll be a lot of leftover junk which isn't required in some automatically created folders.

Just use titanium backup....for backup of user dictionary, contacts and messages - use GO Backup.
For sd card things, 1st let your phone create folders itself...now replace those with you sd card contents.....apk resize themselves automatically so you won't have any problem regarding display or incompatibility
Using XDA premium through A5

please help me to restore my sms i have some important messages in that backup

If you have root use Titanium backup to backup SMS calls, wifi accespoints in HTC & restore in your phone.
I have used this procedure & it works flawlessly
If u have not deleted the msgs from ur htc device, u can use moto migrate.. Check it out once.. Download moto migrate on ur HTC device from playstore and follow on screen instructions.
But I don't know how to restore msgs from backup file. Hope it helps:thumbup:

[Q] How to open HTC Desire V sms backup file

Hi All,
I'd taken backup of sms on my HTC Desire V but now I've only the sms backup file and don't have the phone. Now I want to restore those SMSs in my new phone (Moto G), how this could be done?
I understand this may not be possible or very difficult to do so but still if there is any work around, please suggest. Could my sms backup file from HTC be converted to any other format so that apps like 'SMS Backup & Restore' can identify and restore those SMSs
Please advise.
Kind regards,
Ani
