Has Verizon or Moto replaced your phone? - Motorola Droid RAZR

I have had many lengthy discussions over the last few weeks with verizon customer support. My intent has been to have them swap my ICS upgraded razr maxx for an non upgraded one. I have not had any luck.
Have you? What tactics/facts supported your needs for the swap? The phone is non functional for my needs now, but verizon wont seem to agree with me.

Buy another & Ebay your current one? Might be less headache.

Don't tell them that you only want a replacement because of ics, you'll never get anywhere duh. Make up an excuse say your phone is constantly freezing and you've already done resets and stuff and you'll have one at your home yomorrow.

Matt's utility will not put you back to GB from ICS. Why would you wanna go back anyways? ICS is superior to GB... It takes some getting used to, but it's totally worth the time!

People need to realize that with you cannot go back to GB from ICS IF you updated your phone with an ICS version >= .8x. Once you have flashed that, you are forever on ICS. This is due to a new bootloader being put onto the RAZR. There is no going back to GB once you've update to ICS version .8x or greater.

Go to one of those used cell shops, they can do it usually, it's how they fix bricked phones, they usually have the Dev software required to do it

Actually you can go back you just need to root and find the right boot loader, it's how you fix a bricked phone... It's hard to do and finding the right stuff is almost impossible but it can be done

The inability to play embedded flash videos is a huge problem for me. Having the option to lock in 3g was also an important feature for me. The keyboard on gingerbread worked better with my thumbs, but it is not cause to return to gb. The other 2 reasons, are.

Having to use a widget to switch to 3g after every reboot with only 3 clicks is far from locking onto a particular data connection.
By the sounds of it you purchased your phone with the ics upgrade on it (being you've never used the gingerbread keyboard), so you really wouldn't understand how wonderful this phone use to be.

First, I've owned the phone since it was released.
Second, If clicking a widget and finding a better alternative to the mediocre stock keyboard is too much trouble to you, then I realize trying to help you is fruitless. Good luck in your quest to get Verizon to give you a new phone because you want the Gingerbread keyboard back, can't figure out how to get Flash working, and don't want to use a widget to disable 4G.

First: You expect me to believe you have no experience with the RAZR GB keyboard if you've owned it since its release?
Second: Are you truly claiming that you have the ability to stream embedded flash videos, off of websites, with your DROID RAZR on the stock Verizon ICS release? If so, you have one unique RAZR, as you'd be the only one with the ability to do so.. Adobe Flash streams do not work on our phone with the update... visit the Google Play store and read the RAZR comments on Adobe... It's broken.
Third: If you are the type of consumer that is comfortable with needing to adapt and use alternative methods to use your purchased products as they are intended and advertised, then you are of a unique breed.
I appreciate and expect merchandise to operate as advertised.. I like the items I purchase to remain fully functional.
I haven't even mentioned the issues with the battery, but I'm sure you'd disagree there is anything wrong with cutting down the life of a battery by 40%.. Got an app for that?

Now you battery doesn't work either. ....Keep going. You're almost up to a legitimate reason for a new phone.

Did I say it didn't work? Or did I say it wasn't working as it was before the update?

He probably likes alternative keyboards so wouldn't touch stock, i hate swipe and like the stock ics keyboard.
My friend uses better kb or w/e, there are a few ppl that claim to have flash working on some websites.
And on stock ics my phone chewed through battery.
So root it and use a different cpu governor which will fix it. Custom roms will eventually (they might already) have a 3/4g toggle.
Motorola's ics updates are mostly fine, you should have read the problems ppl were having.
So you can't complain
Nothing isn't perfect, and i wouldn't expect stock to be as good as this, if flash worked fine, this would be one of the few phones i'd recommend to anyone AND it will not require they come see me to "set there phone up"

Should I Upgrade?

I've been using the 198_6 sbf with no serious issues and was wondering if I should flash the 198_7 sbf. Are there any major enhancements or benefits?
Im wondering the same, Im from Ecuador so I use gsm. Updating will cause any trouble?
Funny, I tried to root like 2 weeks ago and messed it up. I put on 198_7 and my phone as been a dream every since. Bluetooth and Pandora work great. No dropped calls. GREAT battery. Web is fast. Facebook is flawless. Youtube is fast on 3G. Camera is great. Thats why I have "Root no more" in my siggy!
Can anyone see what has been changed in 198_7 compared to 198_6? I know Motorola has not officially released it yet nor have they provided any documentation.
Any guess as to why 198_7 hasn't been OTA'd yet? Do you think M found a problem with it? It was leaked so long ago...
sorry sjamie, I canot answer your question and likely could not tell the difference if I put my mind to it!!! All I can say is, my phone works flawless!

To be honest, I have no clue what I was on before. I rooted and unlocked @ 2 months back. 2 weeks ago EXACTLY today I decided I wanted CM9 for a spin. **** went downhill and Shabby gave me 198_7 and I have been cool every since?
Just keep in mind 2 things, most important, make sure you have 100% battery (I did not, had to cut USB cable and tie white wire to + and black wire to -. You cannot use phone to charge, I have wall charger now) Lastly, you loose everything, just like the day you got it from the Sprint Store!
Sprint/Motorola did officially release 198.7. I know because while in the US the update was pushed to my phone.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that Motorola nor Sprint officially released 198_7. I do have the SBF for it and will probably flash it due to dsims' sheer enthusiasm!

I'm also curious, what are people complaining about? I've had my screen on for the last 4 hours customizing, playing with and generally enjoying ICS. I've yet to experience any issues whatsoever...? Genuinely wondering what problems people are having? Why would they put the ICS release candidate on their staging/soak server if it was riddled with bugs?
Hummmm
Have you people really used ICS I think its horrible even if they do get it working on these phones it still sucks! Just make the battery last a month on one charge and connect to any wi-fi without having to log in, and make apps shut off when you exit out of them. That's all we want out of our phones right??? We can only dream about having phones that work right there will always be someone with an issue with their phone as long as we are getting phones that do all these great things!! Sorry my little rant i'm just done hearing everyone saying when is ICS coming to our phones!! Everyone knows when they do release it thousands will install and instantly start having issues so then another update and another it will never end! How many phones that are out work perfectly? I probably wont even update to ICS when it comes I like the way my phone works now and know where everything is! If you want ICS just install a different launcher done!!
Back in February, everyone was screaming for ICS on their Asus Transformer. Now, the majority of people wished they never got it because it has caused nothing but grief for many (not all) owners. (lockups, random reboots, and general instability).

ICS updated but want Ginerbread back i think

I waited and waited. Thought about rooting and using a ROM before the official ICS update came from AT&T but just decided to wait. Finally got the update via Kies, excited like a school girl. Initially it was a cool new bit of scenery, and as the OS settled in with me, i found myself disappointed and wanting my gingy back. I've been upgrade for a couple months now i think, and had plenty of time to try to get used to it.
I am finding lots of things that just plain suck.
1 - Text message notification audible alert discontinues after awhile (unknown amount of time), only resolution I've found is to reboot the phone. This sucks because just out of nowhere my text notification tone stops. Everything else like ringtone etc is fine. This is a dealbreaker for me almost. This worked fine on Ginerbread.
2 - new Swype software gives me problems when the word suggestion feature stops working completely. Swype is hard to do without word suggestions at times. Only solution i've found is again, reboot the phone. This sucks. I know, don't use swype, but i WANT to use it. It worked perfectly on Gingerbread.
3 - the widget for Google Voice is super tiny now, and i don't see a way of making it bigger. It's approximately the size of 4 icons, whereas before on Gingerbread it was huge and you could easily read/see your voicemails. Maybe i'm missing something on how to change the widget size, but i see no way of doing it.
4 - my News and Weather widget, which i used for weather and news all the time, since my original Galaxy S, does not display any weather information anymore. Just says "No Weather Information". this worked fine on Gingerbread. I guess different phone OS makes widgets work differently. I just want mine to work as expected. News still comes through fine though.
5 - Unlocking the screen seems more difficult now, usually takes me a couple tries, whereas it seemed really smooth and awesome before the update
6 - Power Saving widget is huge now, takes up half of one screen, whereas before it was just 1 row and you could scroll across. Why make it bigger and take up more room with no additional functionality?
After listing all this out, i'm trying to think of the things i LIKE about ICS update, and i can only think of one, which is the data monitoring/limiting which is kind of a cool feature. I doesn't seem any faster really than before. So overall, i honestly was happier with Gingerbread. 6 things that i find that suck versus one thing i like.
Maybe this is me being picky, but as excited as I was to get ICS, i'm equally disappointed in the upgrade. My wife uses a Galaxy Note and it is available for her phone now, and I told her don't bother with the upgrade.
Anyone have any advice??? experience the same problems? I know i could root, install a custom rom etc, but i really like the touchwiz stuff from samsung and i was really happy with just the stock gingerbread OS, even with all the bloatware, i just disregard all that junk.
I'm having the same problem with text notification I just notice that I get a text it would sound but just about an hour ago it just stopped I would get a text and nothing ringtones works and everyrhing but I think is a ics bug maybe it would get fixed in the new update 4.0.4

at&t sucks. bottom line.
Advice, if you want to stick with touchjizz, run a custom one, there are plenty that *should* have those issues taken care of.
But the widget size issue, thats just looks, with a different launcher can change size of widgets.
Lol I called this one. A bunch of people upgrade to stock ICS. Then they complain and want to switch back, mess it up, and start new threads. Hopefully they all learned their lesson about carrier upgrades . I mean even I tried it, just to see what it looked like and how it functioned. Then again I knew how to get back to a custom Rom Before I did it. It's actually not too bad, but there were just too many bugs and battery life was too bad for my taste.

It isn't 100% on all phones it seems to be random but instead of posting something VERY VERY risky for people not so inclined to troll the forums and find out about the risks of certain actions why not shut up or post what you think will work then link them to a topic showing what bad could happen. You just seem like you want people to brick and make more topics about how they tried to reset and bricked. You also need to think of Google searches that link to this topic and they read it and see you said reset and they do it. It isn't just xda its anyone with the internet don't lead people to a possible brick

The only way to go "back" to Gingerbread is to flash UCKH7 straight stock or one of the Gingerbread stock plus root packages in Entropy512's thread. So yes, use that, or one of my guides.

You could load a ics based rom that uses a kexec kernel with safestrap or boot manager, but (I could be wrong) I believe the locked bootloader prevents downgrading your actual system kernel

Thank you. Seriously people learn to search and learn to read. IT SAYS WHEN YOU FLASHED IT THAT THERE IS NO WAY TO GO BACK TO ICS, SO DONT FN ASK AND ASK AND ASK AND ASK AFTER YOU DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you were not sure about the upgrade, then why did you do it in the first place? Also, why the hell do you want to go back anyways, it actually makes the phone work properly. No more random Wifi glitching forcing you to reboot to go back on Wifi, no more issues toggling between wifi and 4g, better battery life, faster phone, I even got better incomming call clarity. But you know I should go back to ICS for some bullet to the head reasoning!

Not to argue, but I'm experiencing my maxx on JB a whole hell of a lot slower than ICS... working properly? I don't think so... unless regular freezing and crashing/rebooting is what you're referring to.
btw, it was a complete, regrettable accident when I accidently pressed "install" on the constant incessant request to install the update it automatically downloaded to my phone. never asked for that to happen either.
So, perhaps if we just simply root JB, remove all the numerous apps that we don't use, then it should "work properly"? anyone know what what I'm saying?

Do we really need to root right now?

So I've been debating if to root or not for a couple of days now, I just got the phone last week, so I'm still getting used to sense 5.
Now heres what I ask myself, knowing that the development for our specific device is a bit slow, and flashing one of the international roms will make us loose some key features (like wifi calling).
It has me thinking what would be the real benefit to root out device right now?

It has me thinking what would be the real benefit to root out device right now?

If you have to ask, then don't root.

Bingo. Don't root without a compelling reason.
Im still not rooted and I have not missed it that much,
When AOSP gets stable on this phone however I will probably root and try it out and see If I prefer it over sense

i will be getting mine today, and i will root right away, mainly because i want to use the htc logo as a menu button and disable those three dots
I rooted mine day one (I got mine the day they released last month)
I am running a great ROM and I dont regret rooting one bit, it was totally worth it for the ROM that I am using right now. I still have WiFi calling and more.
Which Rom are you using?
And what features does it have if you don't mind me asking.

It has the latest HTC build for this phone, that includes better camera and GPS fixes and better response with the touch buttons. The phone seems snappier and it has better battetylife and it has no more bloat and in benchmarks I score higher now. I can install adaway on my phone now. And more will be in the 8.0 release. I also like the mods (like the percentage battery mod)

From what I've read none of the international roms have wifi calling....
I mean I know I can flash custom kernels and get certain things like HTC2menu or back2menu...
But as far as roms I thought they werent none out for us specifically right now... Or maybe I'm mistaken...

That ROM does have WiFi calling. It has tmobile specific features in the installer. You should try it out.

I have rooted every phone I've owned within 3 days of getting it. However, ive had my one for two weeks now and honestly I don't have a compelling reason to root. Bloat? Virtually non-existent. And what is there is "freezable" within the stock rom. Sense5 is remarkably robust, fast, and solid.
But that's just me.

I've been wanting to root but haven't yet. Only thing I want is WiFi tether and HTC button to work as menu key.
To me, I have to root HTC one due to annoyances. Don't get me wrong, sense is neat... But 3 dot menu bar needs to go, GPS indicator in the status bar is too clunky, and power saver message that won't go away??! If those things were different, I wouldn't root.

Gotta have Root for Me
There are alot of reasons for root for some users, and for some not so much. It is always one of the first things I do. You can have root and keep a stock ROM it just gives you options, and when you get bored with stock these amazing cooks on XDA always have something brewing for you to check out. Some of my reasons to root specific to the HTC One on TMO.
Flash a writable kernel so my system files are now writable. Currently using Bulletproof.
DoubleTap2Wake so I don't have to bang on the IR blaster all day. HTC buttons don't like to be used, they always end up failing or plain falling out.
got rid of the 3 button menu bar and now have the HTC Logo as the menu button. Sweeet!
Makes it easier to back up and restore. I use several devices so I can Box my Titanium files and quickly be in the same position across whatever device I decide to use at the time.
Customization. blue % battery mod, transparent app drawer, transparent blinkfeed clock. I can do custom icons and get rid on annoying ones likd NFC or GPS.
The most important is to beat the stupid enterprise settings on exchange. I have to have email on my device, but i cant stand using a PIN or Pattern. solution=root!
My $0.02
Root to use your Playstation 3 controller. =.3
That's the main reason. And there's a MOD that lets you map the HTC button. That's pretty cool. (Not to repeat what others have already stated)
Also, how important is WiFi Calling? People seem to really want that. I haven't used it. LoL!! I'm guessing it's good for those that travel a lot?

WiFi calling is pretty important to me, mainly because where I work I have zero signal but do have access to wifi (I'm right underneath the access point, which is nice).
Some people depend on it at home as well, such as my boss' son.
As far as root goes....I haven't rooted yet, I just haven't felt the need to.
Only reason I rooted was to use my MOGA Pro as a regular gamepad. Now I'm running rooted stock ROM and cruising through FF7 in an emulator during my train commute
I am rooted running the ARHD 7.4 ROM with WiFi calling. It works great. Rooting allows me to use titanium backup for all my apps. Also making onandroid backups. And lots of little changes. Remove bloated apps, etc
