no it won't it will just charge faster. higher amps does not meant the charger pushes out that many, it means it can provide up to that much.

TRUE... I charged my BB 8520 from S3's charger and battery got swollen.

Thanks for the help

Nope. The device restricts the Amperage by itself to 1Amp and the charger delivers 5Volt.

Do you honestly compare the S3 to old Blackberry devices? =)

i think there was something wrong with your battery.
I have charged all my devices using the ipad charger 5V 2.1A and never had a problem. i use that because with the higher Amps I can charge faster.

Using a charger with a higher current rating won't really hurt with lithium ion batteries. Some other battery types can be affected by charging too quickly.

[Q] Output voltage and amperage of Samsung Battery Charger

I have a question for those who bought the Samsung spare battery charger device with the integrated stand. What is the rated output voltage and amperage of the charger? If should say so on the device itself.
Also, if possible, I would greatly appreciate it if someone could tell me the actual voltage and/or amperage of the charger as measured by a volt/amp meter.
The reason I am looking for this info is because I bought a spare battery from Samsung, but the current charger that I have doesn't charge it all the way (only to about 91% full) since the output voltage is too low. I would like to purchase a third party charger since they are much cheaper, but I need to know what its specs should be.
I believe the charger your talking about is 5.0 volts and 1.0 amp. I haven't run it on a meter. I would say any usb charger with that rating or higher should be sufficient for a 100% charge

Sorry, I didn't mean the USB charger, I meant the one where you put a spare battery in it by itself to charge. Here is the link for what it looks like:

Sorry, shouldn't have said usb. I was in a sprint store on Sunday looking at that battery/charger combo and I it said 5.0 volts/ 1.0amp

Incorrect. The charger that comes with the phone itself is 1 amp, the charger that comes with Samsung's spare battery stand ebh-1g6mla is only .7 - the stand can accept input at either 500 mA or
1 A. It outputs only 4.2v @ either 450 or 900 mA.

Long Charging Time?

My phone takes eons to charge. And if I use it while its charging, it actually won't charge at all. Anyone else experiencing this?

The charger it comes with is ****. You can get 2A chargers for about $5 from various places.
Are you using the stock charger? Overall all Galaxy devices charge horribly slow down

As he said, the stock charger does not seem to effectively charge the phone well - try using a different wall USB charger. I use an old blackberry one and it works great, and my girlfriend uses her iPhone charger with the same results.
I have a similar experience. When I am using the phone and must charge I like my HP Touchpad's wall charger which can charge slightly more than the phone uses. However I bought the Samsung desk charger with the spare battery and when the phone gets to 20-30% I just swap and charge the battery in the dock. FWIW I can get from 8- 35 hours on the batteries depending on use.

2.1 Amp charger?

I just bought one of those things you plug into the wall and it has two USB ports. One of the ports is marked 2.1A. Any reason not to charge the Evo from that?
EDIT: never mind, my bad - I found the answer in the forums.
What was the answer?

2.1 is the max amperage available for charging. It won't hurt anything, as the phone will regulate the level drawn to its maximum amount.
If you use a low-power charger, say .5A or below, then it will just take longer to charge.
The 3.0 that was mentioned is USB 3.0 (speed/revision), not the current rating.
2.1 will work fine. It will charge the phone noticeably quicker. I know this because I use my Nexus 7 charge brick to charge my phone all the time and it's significantly quicker.
It's also completely safe.

Your phone will not intake power at a higher rate than 2.1 amps. That's by electrical design, not by software.

So I wasted my money on an extra 0.9 amps?.. The charger was only $8 so it doesn't matter I guess. At least I have the power to plug something else in the second USB slot and not go below 2.1amps.

Are you using an original charger?
Are you using a wall or USB charge?
I have original 1650 mAh battery and it takes roughly about 2.5 - 3 hrs to charge from 0% to 100% using original Samsung charger
It will more if you bigger battery or you are charging USB or with nonstandard charger

i use original charger and battery(1650mah) only from samsung but still it is taking more time around 4 hours.
is there any problem with my battery or mobile?
i purchased it 6 months befoe.
Bro battery charging time depends whether you are using the phone or not... because if you are using it continuously while charging screen n processor drains alot of juice...so it will take alot of time but if phone is in deep sleep it will charge faster...as simple as that..!!

Mine takes about 3.5 hours with the original charger and battery. So, depending on your usage it can be normal.
From a wall charger mine is taking around 3 and a half hours stock battery... yours seems fine...

Have you heard about undervolting and overvolting? and if you install a kernel like Siyah you can adjust the values needed to make your charging faster.

But the charging is still limited to 650mA, since the hardware only has three modes.. 90mA which is never used, 450mA which is for usb charging and 650mA which is for charging with an adapter.

Battery and battery charger question

According to Amazon,i should not use the white Anker universal charger on s3 batteries, is there a reason for this? So far i see no reason, but I do not want to take a risk, thanks!
note: I used to use this to charge my s2 Anker batteries
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Probably because it charges very slowly compared to the correct s3 charger and it is designed for 3.7v rather than 3.8v. You may not think there is a difference but higher voltage leads to higher termination voltage which this charger will never reach.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
So generally, it should be safe to use? It would just change slower?

As long as the charger is designed for Li-ion battery and the correct mAh rating then yes it is safe, but you will never acheive a 100% charged battery for your phone.
Yep charged every single phone battery I've ever had, why would it never be 100% though? Mind explaining?

Anker has another version that will work with gs3 battery.
