Download files to PC - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there an android app that lets me tell my computer at home to download a file? Sometimes im out on the road and see a new 600mb rom posted and I want to be able to tell my computer at home (with a faster connection) to download it so when I get home I can just flash. I like how in the utorrent android app I can send torrent files from my android to my computer and when I get home, its finished downloading. Im wondering if I could do something like that but for regular non torrent links. Thanks.

pocket cloud and pocket cloud explorer are a pair of apps worth looking at, pocket cloud is a remote desktop client, should do what you want,, but sluggish over 3g but still workable

Accessing files from workstation via Web

Is there any apps out there for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 that work like Motocast or Zumocast? I've got the remote desktop app Splashtop setup, but was wondering if there is a simpler app that allowed you to access files on my work computer via the web?
Check out Ubuntu One, works with windows.

Have you try TeamViewer. No issue with firewall

So, you just want to access files from your work computer on your tab? If that's all, most file managers are able to access shared files over LAN/WAN (I use it all the time for music/pictures/stuff computer).
Teamviewer is just another remote desktop app. Ubuntu one is just a cloud service. And I need to access my files anywhere, not just when i'm on a LAN/wan. The problem with a cloud service is th I have thousands pdf's, spreadsheets, and photos on my workstation and uploading them all a cloud and them having to keep updating that cloud daily is not feasible.
Motocast works flawless in that anywhere you have web access you can access a PC that is on and running the client in the background. Just wondering if there is an app like that that works for the Samsung galaxy tab 10.1...
You could set a FTP server (I recommend SFTP for security) on your workstation and use an app like AndFTP.
try Pocket Cloud
Dropbox is simplest solution. Put your files in Dropbox and they are everywhere.

Just thought I'd mention, WAN is wide area network (aka internet), not WLAN (wireless LAN).
So using shares (or FTP/SFTP) you can easily access all your files, you can even mount them so that tab sees them as "local" (useful for quite some apps that don't support network shares).

You 'just' create a folder and 'just' drop your files there. How hard is that? Dropbox is not something physical that you have to do anything to it daily. Their is no hard labor involved. You definitely need paid service for thousands and thousands of your files. Just like that.

alternative
Another option that helped me was pocketcloud explore. Because you have the pocketCloud remote desktop but this is a separate app that will let you just access, view, and download all your files. It's 1 of the closest things motocast I could find.

Google Drive vs Dropbox

Discuss...
I hate that you cant browse out to you "Off-line" documents on Google Drive on your phone of tablet.... or I haven't found a way to do that... without digging into all the nesting...
does dropbox allow you to use i.e. ES File explorer and set pictures as wallpapers or save documents to your SDCard etc?
ES file explorer added support for GDrive so that helps with browsing files.
it has ??? Damn i didnt know... thanks !
hit the thanks button...

Gunna have to go with drop box. Especially if you have to share files. Google drive just isn't as intuitive with file sharing like drop box is. For me I have to share .zips for themes and Google drive just doesn't cut it. Drop box ftw. However if you have something with a ton if traffic... good luck cuz they will nuke your public links.

I am a heavy Dropbox user. The thing I like most about Drobox is that I have a portable app which allows me to sync all my documents from a USB memory drive. This is especially important at work since I can't download any applications/etc.
I'm not sure of Google Drive's capabilities yet but I do expect to start playing around with it.
I do love the Titanium feature where it syncs backups to Dropbox. (Google drive I think does this as well). Comes in handy when you haven't backed up your phone on your computer in a long while, and you drop your phone deep into a lake. The same goes with syncing pictures.

for what I have been reading, Google Drive is not a virtual "drive" in a sense... like DropBox is... GD is Google Docs in costume... it works great for sharing documents specially if you use the web gui because it can render a lot of files natively... so if you are going to have wordDocs and XLS and PPTs, PSDs etc etc then GD is great... but for regular file dump, cloud repository DropBox wins...

WLAN / Mediashare / File Share App

Hello All,
I have Samsung Galaxy S2, my wife has HTC One X and we have two laptops (windows 7) in our house.
Is there any way to stream and share videos, photos and other files seamlessly in our home over wifi? Is there any app for it? I am looking for something by which we can access files on our android phones and PCs using phones or PCs and view, play them.
Thanks in advance.

Download the free app "Airdroid" from the market, it's easy to use
and it is exactly what you are asking about.
With this app you can have up to 4 pc to phone connections at the
same time. You can share videos/watch videos/pictures and slide
shows from android cell phones to pc.
Its also a file manager like windows explorer.
Here is the link to it so you can check it out.
http://www.androidzoom.com/android_applications/tools/airdroid_bqvfk.html
Good luck!
Isn't Airdroid can be accessed only from web browser? (I am not sure, I will check it out). Thanks for the suggestion.
And can I use kies air on HTC One X too? I need some kind of consistency between all equipment.
Thanks for suggestions.

Is there an app to sync gallery with PC and iPad WITHOUT cloud service ???

Ok, am I the only one who does not want to use stupid cloud based services but sync over 300 Mbps router at home ? So my question is, I have Xperia S, PC with Win7 and iPad, I want to have all photos from Xperia S on my PC and iPad. Is there and app that can sync android gallery with PC over WiFi and then I do the same with iPad and I get all photos and videos from Xperia on my iPad also ?
I am searching for that for 15 days but every damn app is cloud based (SugarSync, Dropbox, Google Drive...). Why are they so interrested to have all our photos on their servers ? I want my PC "to be the cloud" and then I sync it over home WiFi on any device that I want.
Any infos would be appreciated because this is retarded, I dont want to have all my files "somewhere" and my upload speed is super slow.
Tnx
I am using Photo Transfer app
This is available on android and ios as well..it can be used to trasfer photos/videos from A to B device usibg WiFi network.
If you just consider android..one of the best app is aVia.
Try and lemme know.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Tnx, I will try Photo Transfer but as it seems that it copies photos from one phone to tablet, no sync or anything, just copying.
aVia is a mystery for me. I have installed it but I dont know how to use it and what it should do ? This is streaming app ? How to stream videos from Xperia on my PC ? Do I need some server program on my PC to use it ? On my Samsung I had that perfect All Share app which was PERFECT and now I dont have that kind of app to stream on my PC, iMediashare has a lot of junk in it, I just want to stream on PC.
But still there is no sync gallery app from Android to iOS, that i weird. I have tried this SimpleDrop app but that is not working and asks me for mobile phnoe number and I must be from USA I guess. But I have managed to open it but it does not work on iPad.
EDIT: Photo Transfer app on Android has Android or iDevice option, iPad has only iPad or iPhone, both have PC or Mac but I need between them. iPad does not see Android phone, not automaticaly or manualy.
The solution to your problem is already there, you just don't wanna use it.
Unless you take 50+ pictures a day, your upload are not a problem with Dropbox.
Yes, I can understand your cloud issues if your pictures contain a goat and you. But other then that, the uploading should bring no problems.
But if you wanna be stubborn, good luck finding your own setup to your problem.

1) I dont want and need to have my photos and videos on "your" server.
2) I dont want to upload HD video which has 200 Mb trough my phone.
3) why would anyone with at least half of the brain spent his bandwith on that upload ? I nave 1 Gb, why would I spend 1/5 of it on one video ?
4) At home I have ****ty 256 kbps upload and 4 Mbit download, how much does it take to upload 200 Mb video on that cloud ?
So, I am not bored, this cloud option is stupid if you ask me, it is ok for documents but photos and videos I can sync when I come home, there is no need to have them immediately on all devices.
Also, goat should not be the problem if the data is so private and secure. You have just prooved my point, you agree that they can see what you upload, bravo ! Then this is little different than Facebook.

I have installed it but I dont know how to use it. Why do they need my phone number, Im not from USA. Can you explain on PM how to stream trough it. Also, there is no iOS version but ok, I can settle for PC sync.

How about trying MyPhoneExplorer? You find in playstore.

BUMP is some kind of solution for single pics, but it doesn't resolve HD video sharing.
OR you can get your self your own private cloud with buying a NAS like Synology ^^
Then Bump is a half solution. That other thing is too complicated. I cannot believe that I am the only one who does not like those clouds. Like everyone has flat and 10 Mbps upload speed so the cloud is fine. I really dont like it for HD videos, photos maybe.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
Well there is a solution for this, it sends all new photos as soon as you put your phone to charger, PERFECT !!

So you want to control a android torrent client from another android device?
I'm gonna do some research, but I know that utorrent offers a remote service where you can control a pc from anywhere in the world with little to no firewall/ router configuration....it used a middle man server.
I suppose if there is a client that offers a webui, you could copy/save a shortcut that went to the webui URL button that executed the command of choice.
But I've never even heard of a android seed box before.
I think bit torrent on market does.. the paid version though
Not 100 on that

Hello,
I have the same scenario and I am also looking for a torrent client on android which can be managed by web or by another android remote torrent client.
I think the only possible solution is to port transmission.

I have the same question as you i wonder if you have found a solution. I have seen that µtorrent beta now exist for android. Moreover they released the remote torrent but as far as i can see this is only for the pc/mac version of µtorrent
Same problem here.
I hope they add that option to the utorrent client on android.
Now you can just take over android with webkey (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.webkey&feature=search_result)
or airdroid https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sand.airdroid

A bit late, but I use dropbox and dropsync
So dropsync autmatically syncs a folder from dropbox to your local storage
With ttorrent you can then auto load this folder to download the torrent
nah I haven't found and android solution. .. What I did was I bought a mini pc ,hook that up to the TV and basically use that as my torrent box
Would have been sweeter to use a Android stick for it but I could not find solution

I wish to find a soilutin to for that.
Here is my scenario. I have a old smartphone with Android, what I want to use for downloading torrents. I wish to have access remotely to add torrent files and take the final downloads in my computer. I figure it out how to do it with BitTorrent Sync... I add the torrent and I take the final downloads in my computer and with tTorrent I download the files (he can automatically scan a folder for torrent files). Theoretically everything is perfect and need to work, but... BitTorrent Sync don't synchronized the files in real time. Sometimes he start to do that after 6 or 24 hours... randomly. Somebody knows another solution to do that...?

Im using tTorrent autoload function /Folder
And im syncing via GoogleDrive app - Autosync for Google Drive.- sync each 5m
So if i add to the Google Drive folder some .torrent files - autosync copy it over to Android/Folder - tTorrent load it and remove it from folder.
That the best way ive found so far , newest version 1.3.0 of tTorrent has also WebUI control, but on each torrent i tried to download or autoload i got :INVALID error. So ive moved back to 1.2.4

I'm using Transdrone from my Note 3 to access it and it's very nice to download automatically from my Android TV Box and play it directly with XBMC when i'm at home !
Got it working with:
tTorrent on the nexus player
Transdroid on the phone
