Want to uppdate my Xperia Neo, confused. - Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo, Pro

Hello guys,
I have the original Xperia Neo and want to manually update it to stock ICS, without unlocking my bootloader to avoid possible bricking in case later OTA updates arrive.
These threads:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1601038
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26798415&postcount=141
that help you root your phone assume you're already on ICS.
Threads that help you update to ICS, assume you're already rooted. I'm confused.
I'm currently running stock and never unlocked or rooted the phone before.
Whats the correct way to update to stock ICS ?

If your neo on GB is not rooted and locked bootloader too, you can safely update via PCC or SEUS.
Also you don't need root initially to flash an ftf using flashtool. That is the only way to "manually" update any SE Phone.
But if it is rooted, flash an ftf file of 4.0.3 firmware. 562 using flashtool.( you will lose all your data. Also search on how to flash ICS firmware using flashtool.) , root it if you want to and proceed to OTA to 4.0.4 firmware. 431.
If you dont wish to root it, directly flash. 431 ftf. To update manually.

Not really, there are .ftf files in first post so you can manually install ICS with flashtool.

U dn't need to root for manually updating via flashtool !!

So for the original Xperia Neo, I go to
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24983903&postcount=2
If you wanna ICS, download from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&postcount=117
and get flashtool from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746

and then flash it only ? that's it?
the file is common to all Xperia Neo phones (regions) ?

Yeah. Only flash the proper ftf file. Also, if you want region specific, use Seus. there is hardly any difference in regions though.

Don't ever upgrade to ics. Your neo will become very laggy and most of the time applications will force stopped plus overheating and drains battery faster. I have experienced it.

Root. And install supercharger. It is an all in one solution. Also if you do a bit of searching, you'll find fixes. Eg. Stock dialer lag fix by mpkiep in the Neo themes section.
And most of all unlock your boot loader and use another kernel. Also if you don't want to unlock, use a script to enable more governers for a kernel. Use those. On demand is not recommended for optimum performance.

any news on that?? can i get that anywhere??
Haven't come across it myself either, good luck hunting.
As the FW from the Arc works on the Neo, try using the one in Arc development thread.
From my phone to your eyes.
are you sure that they use exactly the same FW?

i use that one too but i dint want HK software. but i think i am gonna wait for that tweaked clean stock rom thats gonna be done ir the final CM7

Hello,
You can simply use DooMKernel (OC + recovery + root) or install Bin4ry's RootXperia.zip from a recovery
The two methods works with a 368Fw (just an unlocked bootloader is required)
I got the HK one and once I got my bootloader unlocked, installed doomkernel and then deleted the apps I didn't want on there with root and it runs well. overclocking time soon.

Overclocking a Mini (ST15I).

Is there anyway to Overclock an ST15i on stock rooted .62 firmware and locked bootloader?
Is there something like a file I can use like I could do with my old X8?
Also,any way to add governors?
I don't wanna use custom ROM at the moment though.Just stock.
Thanks.
N.
Only way is via unlocking bootloader and using custom kernel.

Thanks man.Maybe things will change in the future. It d be nice to be able to do it with a plug in!

With stock kernel, you cannot overclock at all. Kernel is the only bridge between hardware and firmware. You have to edit kernel to be able to overclock.

totally correct! .62 fw hard to root, the easy way doesnt work....i tried the method listed for mk16i, it worked

Update WT19i (LWW) To ICS

Hi I want to update my phone but I'm confused with all the problems and the SI numbers that are needed in order to update to ICS I'm thinking of updating via flashtool, since I connected my phone and Pc companion didn't detected a new version, besides .62 ( I'm using .58 fw) so I want to know if I can update it yet, or I'll have to wait more? I also want to know if I have to update to .62 before updating to Ics? Thanks
Sent from my WT19i using XDA
Nope.u can directly update to ics.but dnt forget to wipe data before update.it will give u fresh feel
Sent from my WT19i using xda premium
you don't have to wait if you don't want to and you can update straight from .58 its not an issue.

Anyway, if you wipe, you can't have a rooted phone.
To root your 4.0.4 you have to follow THIS steps.
Otherwise, just flash ICS via flashtool.
Ok guys thanks for your help, but nobody told me how to update, I mean pc companion don't fine me the ics update, how could I install ICS? You say I don't have to wait, so is there an ics update for lww available? If so, where can I download it?

I think you can only do it with flashing it back, so flash gb and then ics. Look here.
I have used this method before and rooted my phone..is there a way to reinstall the official ics without having to use this time consuming root method agin?Just keep the root as it is

Boot-Loader Unlocked = Flash Custom Kernel
Boot-Loader Locked = Than flash Stock ROM with flashtool, un-check wipe data & wipe cache before flashing, after flashing do a factory reset
Yes you can .. Flash official ics ftf and then flash a custom kernel such as rage or kamarush .. Then you have to flash a zip file..There you are done.. Follow this guide last section...http://naw32fsystem.blogspot.in/2012/06/how-to-upgrade-live-with-walkman-to-ics.html

1)To install cm10.1 you have to unlock your bootloader. This procedure will void your warranty.
2)You can still relock your bootloader flashing this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1920199 . Notice that if you lock your bootloader when you are on custom rom that requires unlocked bootloader (cm9.1 cm10 cm10.1) you will have some serious problems.
3) To unlock your bootloader follow this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1527159
4) After that to install cm10.1, you have follow the steps here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2337493 . On the first post you will see installation. Follow these steps and everything will go fine.

there is no cwm for locked bootloader on gb, that's why i didn't mention it. You have to unlock bootloader, install custom kernel prerooted and with cwm.
What do you mean for stock kernel and cm10.1 kernel? I am confused. Stock kernel is one thing and cm10.1 kernel is another thing. cm10.1 kernel you can find it inside the zip with the rom you have to download.

To flash stock rom there is no need to unlock bootloader but to flash custom one you need to unlock bootloader..... And there are two types of bricked phone 1st soft brick(which can be repair) 2nd hard brick (which can not be repaired) so if you do something wrong and your phone get hard brick you can't repair it and also unlocking bootloader can hard Brick your phone so only do it when you know everything about it... But if you soft brick it you can repair it by downloading stock rom and flashing it with flashtools

I think I'm confusing us and myself. so
1. no matter which ROM I use how can I flash GB or ics stock ROM via PC/flash tools in offline. It should work 100% (because xperia u got only limited internal memory. and that's why I can't keep backup files alway . and if I break my phone I will not able to use internal memory to copy any files there)
2. can I switch between any to any type ROM like
GB to cm10
cm10 to ICS
3. can I switch between stock gb to custom ICS ROM directly?
I will unlocked my bootloader

No. You have to root and install cwm. If you want to install custom kernel you have to unlock your bootloader, otherwise there is no reason doing so.

No need to unlock, it's not a custom kernel. It's all stock. I told it to you already
You have to use flashtool.
Download this one : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2029415 it's ics firmware.
Now you have to download flashtool. This is where you can download it: http://androxyde.github.io/
Now you have to flash the rom.
Here you will find a video on how to flash the rom. The procedure is the quite the same. The only thing that changes is when you have to plug usb cable on phone, you will see the instructions on the video, you have to press volume down button and not back button. link for the video :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmmThXTWu74
