Google Now on DX2 - Motorola Droid X2

Now that we have an effective CM9 for our phone is it possible to use the Google now .apk they've ported from the SIII? I've seen many threads for other phones running CM9 that have Google Now but they all (at least the ones I've seen) involve replacing the stock Google search app. Would we be able to do anything with this or does the fact that we can't alter the apps that come with the from limit us in this way?
-thanks

Make a nandroid and give it a try, go to the "android apps and games" forum, there is a thread for the Google now

I started a thread on this a while ago here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1749479
Google now is not fully functional for anything other than Jelly Bean ROMs. Cards work but you cant do a voice search and there are other bugs. There is a small work around for voice search that uses another app from the Play Store but it still is not that great. I have it on my phone. But I rarely ever touch it becasue it just isnt the same without the voice search. Honestly, S Voice from the Galaxy S3 works a lot better.

Okay thanks. I'll give it a try!

You can get it here. All you have to do to get it to work is install the apk and then modify your build.prop and spoof it to GT-I9300. Instructions are in the thread.

Are there any special instruction or steps needed to get Google Now on DZK's CM10 build for the X2?

Nope. Google Now is part of Jelly Bean. So it is part of CM10. No special instructions needed. This thread was just for getting it on Ice Cream Sandwich.

Nope. But you can Google and read about them yourself.
Unless you need the camera, I can recommend just getting the latest CM9 installed.
We've had alpha 2 on our TP since it came out and it is pretty much perfect other than the camera is not working.

Audio and wifi works fine for me in CM9. Can't comment on Netflix since I don't use it.
Anyway, just go ahead and take the plunge. Every TouchPad owner should just install CM9. You have absolutely nothing to lose (except perhaps your warranty, but who cares about that?) and everything to gain.
Netflix youtube and flash have been fixed up nicely, im on 9.0.0 RC0 touchpad-alpha2 , earlierversions had some issues with netflix n such. As well, i've never had a problem with wifi on any rom ive ever tried.
Okay I think I'll take a look. Any idea when the next major release or milestone is? I'm going on vacation in a few so would be nice to have a nice newer version waiting for me...

I've personally found the official threads to be the best guide, but I suppose YMMV.
As for the question in the OP, I'm currently running eyeballer's unofficial nightly from the 18th, and it's held up quite well against everything I've thrown at it thus far.
Obviously, the camera and microphone don't work, but that's expected. I've had no issues with WiFi connectivity, although I have had one random reboot.
I'm running with a modest overclock to 1.7 as well.
Don't think. Just do it like all of us here. Its not a wrong move if all of us done that

Did they ever get the camera working on CM7? I don't think so. Either way, I'm using CM9 every day. It's awesome. You'll never go back webOS. Hopefully Windows 8 can get flashed over to this bad boy too.

Google Now for Rezound ICS

I was wondering if anyone out there is working on a port of Google Now for the Rezound ICS.. Would love to be able to run this on my pgone, just have no clue how to port anything.
On a side note is anyone working on a JB rom yet either?
last I checked it's not compatible for us. I believe it's strictly for 4.1 cause of the API level unless someone cam.correct me. since you didn't read and search much you could have answered your JB question easily. we don't even have a full stable aosp ics rom yet alone kernel source so JB is a longshot for now
i think it possible indeed
if you will look at this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvqSR13gpGk this is a review of android 4.1 jelly bean running on galaxy s3. when he tried to open google now, it's showed a message: "google search stopped working". what's mean, that google now is google search application on the android 4.1. what it only need to be, it's get the google search apk from jelly bean rom of galaxy nexus, get the apk code (this is how to get the code of the apk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ocVGRtjuD-g), and with the code make an application for the ics and try to install. according to this logic, this very simple to port google now for ice cream sandwich, even gingerbread. i wish this is how it conducted. if yes, it's mean google now for everyone
---------- Post added at 03:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:59 PM ----------
and after it will succes, developers will can add google now some sources of the siri like applications that develop until now like iris, skyvi, mira, s voice and more, to make google now to answer for questions in cards that if we asked her now, google now will take us automaticly to search results. and then, google now will be the ultimate voice assistant. she still can't answer like that like siri. but after that, google now will destroy siri once and for all!

Tried searching, all I have right now is my phone (no computer currently), which makes filtering/narrowing down a search more difficult. Not necessarily saying aosp, just a developer implementing parts of jb into a current rom for the rezound. Mainly notification inhancements, keyboard, and of course Google Now (if any are possible at this time)......

Did you have to do anything special? I am on rls 3.1.2, but I do not see that file that I am supposed to rename in the system/app directory? No idea why, ut it is not in that directory or anywhere on my phone. (GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk)

I'm not sure if you were still trying to get this to work, but I since no one put this answer in this thread, I will.
This voice workaround works pretty nicely. Basically, you replace the search widget with the google now widget, then use ICS's speech to text and push it into the search box for google now.

Have fun!
FYI guys its updated by a user named lenny_kano.. They haven't updated the OP with a new apk, but if you look at the last 10-15 pages you can find the hack and slash method.. Essentially- it works perfectly. Native voice and all (she even reads back the results to you).. pretty freakin awesome.

Google Now on ICS

You may have already seen this but if not, XDA member febcyv has managed to get google now working with ICS.

I have not tried this on my TF300 yet, but if anyone else has I would be eager to find out how you got on.
Good luck and enjoy
Just installed it, and everything wet smoothly. I have no idea what I am expecting now though, it appears to have just replaced the search bar. Nothing different seems to have happened so far.
Edit: I had to install the modified Velvet-theos0o.apk file in order to get it to work properly. Voice search isn't working but that seems to be a common issue.

if you search factual questions it should now bring up "knowledge cards" with your answer rather than a google search.
Also try holding home and dragging up, it may open "google now" which is supposed to act a bit like your PA and learn your routine
I'm also doing a bigger more widespread port of this over in the android development>apps and games section

Is there any versions out for non-rooted devices? Don't feel too good rooting my new device, would lose the quarantee
Unlocking voids warranty, rooting doesn't.
It says that it requires a "A Rooted device running ICS AOSP Rom". I'm rooted but NOT unlocked and therefore NOT running a custom ROM.
This won't work for me. Right?

Im not 100% sure, but I would imagine that the stock ROM is close enough to AOSP for it to work.

[Q] Google Now from Jelly Bean to ICS

Hello all, got a question for anyone whom can help. I found a port of the new search, "Google Now", from Jelly Bean that supposedly works with ICS. Just out of curiosity, has anyone tested this with the EVOLTE and gotten any luck? Perferebly with the mean rom. If I could get feed back that would be great, so I know if I should port it or not. Biggest thing I'm looking forward to in 4.1... Thanks in advance!

I have it working on Mean Rom 1.3. The difference is that it learns from your searches based on the cards that google has given and future ones they will release, so no its not exactly like regular search.

Yes and no, it actually does use regular search history too. The main thing that makes this awesome is the fact that it actually gathers all the data and presents it to you in a neat and quick format WHEN you need it.
I.E. if I google "results to X game" or something, it will continuously pop that card up throughout the match and at the end with the final result. If you do a quick search like "who's the actor in X film" it pulls up a clean cast list as opposed to googling "imdb cast X film" then clicking on it, and scrolling down the IMDB page/app. It's the little things

Nope. As far as I can tell from what I read, the voice is intertwined with Jellybean's kernel, so it probably won't come to ICS. What you CAN do is use a keyboard to "type" by voice search but you still have to hit search. It also will not speak the query back to you.

First they remove the headphones seen with other versions of the same device.
No blocking mode? Why I really wanted that. I thought this was a jelly bean feature and not a phone feature?

There won't be a flashable zip because you have to change versions to get it working. The best you will get is an executable script that pushes the files and then you have to do stuff yourself and then it will push more files. Viperboy (I believe is his name) has one on Sprint N2 forum.
