SGS II - Register Device on Software Updater: process failed! - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just flashed ICS 4.0.3 (official I guess: XXLPB) via Odin. Phone is running great, but I havent had time to test it throughly but everything looks fine.
But there is this annoying thing. On the Notification bar there is an info that reads "SOFTWARE UPDATE: Confirm that you have read and understood...". When I tap on it, it takes me to the agreements of the software. After I select my county and click next it says Registering device, after a couple of secs it reads process failed. Any way to fix this and remove this message?

There is an option in menu Settings > Phone info > Software Updates to disable the notification.
I think that the registering fails because you are not running an officially released firmware for your phone in your region.

Same problem, need help
I have exactly the same problem except i updated to ICS using Samsung Kies and after the update in completed it fails to registed device in the software updater. i need a solution for the problem so that i can update later and i don't want to just disable notifications, any help??!!

well CSC code aka 'Consumer Software Customisation code' is specific to geographical region and carriers. It contains the software packages specific to that region, carrier branding and also APN settings for data connection, MMS etc for your service provider.
The CSC code will show if ICS has been released for your phone's software and will look something like this:-
I9100XYZKD1 or I9100MXYZKDI
The important part to determine your eligibility for ICS are the 3 letters after the number... in this case XYZ, (unless you have an M, T, G or P variants. In which case it is the 3 letters after that).
so if u have an unknown CSC or the one Diff to ur geographic region, then u will not get an ICS update to ur phone , since ur phone will fail to register before the OTA update due to this reason.
Hence it would be always recomended to change the CSC to ur country specific irrespective of the Stock firmware on ur phone, so that u will be eligible for an OTA update to ICS without any issue's.
Hope this makes things clear for u now

yes you can install it manually if you wish to. If however you're planning on installing a custom kernel, you'd get a customized version of CWM bundled with it. So if that's what you're planning on doing eventually, you could simply install a custom kernel like siyah or dorimanx via Odin itself and get CWM recovery

Can u plz give me some link to download and any instructions plz ?

I'll assume you mean siyah kernel.
www.gokhanmoral.com
Download the version for the S2. (v4.1.5)
If you're using Odin, download the tar file.
For using Odin, follow the same steps you did while installing your firmware.
In case you're asking about a trorial on flashing siyah via Odin, check this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14283342
Follow the 'Odin long instructions' and instead of cf-root kernel, use siyah's tar version.
Good luck.

Unlocked Ace, want Generic firmware

network subset lock off

If yes can someone guide me or just provide links ?

i saw your version
flashing will not brick phone if you flash 5830 roms with proper instruction which you can get in some sticky
offcourse your phone will be updated through kies but you will have to wait for update for that specific region [in this case india if ddkq6]
all GB roms on sammobile are flashable for you...
PDA CSC stuffs give you info about region , specific identifier for update etc stuff
i was also very much concerned when first flash phone with odin... read instuctions carefully and flash device specific roms only
you might not be able to get updates through kies as samsung delays updates between regions.. so most of guys flash through odin itself
Thanx really a lot mate.
but I could only find DDKQ5. not 6
And as I am not able to root my phone, how do I back up my current Rom?
I couldnt resist and flashed S5830XWKS9_S5830XWKS2_S5830VGFKS1_HOME.tar.md5
Everything working but I have got Virgin Mobile shortcuts and Jeux game. Cant uninstall it.

It's available if you SEARCH in this forum
Herpderp Adreno + Tegra.
I was tempted to flash Russian 2.3.6 and I did it successfully. Cleared cache and factory reset and now even Kies accepts it and will update when available.
It is far better. I have lots of Ram available now.

If you used MobileODIN, try reflashing the same ROM, but having the .md5 in the external SD card, not in the internal storage.
I had this issue once and that's what worked for me.
Anyhow, forget about the Brazilian ROMs (such as ZTO). They are all outdated already.
Get one from NEE (new) or ITV (newest). They are better, newer, leaner and work flawlessly in Brazil (and yes, they both contain Brazilian Portuguese).
may I ask you to show me which one (ITV) should I use? Or just tell me what country I should look for in checkfus!
Thanks !!

Raphael, if you're going to use the non-GUI version of CheckFus Downloader, this is the command line to get it:
Code:
CheckFusDownloaderCmd.exe -dl I9300XXALF6/I9300ITVALF1/I9300XXLF5/I9300XXALF6 ITV GT-I9300
Otherwise, for the GUI version, just copy/paste the parts below in the "Firmware info" of CheckFus Downloader 2.1:
Product Code: GT-I9300MBDITV
PDA: I9300XXALF6
CSC: I9300ITVALF1
Phone: I9300XXLF5
then click on "Check Firmware" and then "Download".
it was not so easy to find it in checkfus...I didn't find in gui version, and on nongui I downloaded, but after the download the program crashes and broke the file. 3 times.
But I found it at Sammobile, downloaded and already flashed! Thank you again!
Mine's also says CSC Unknown... I'm on Official JB Polish rom... do I have to flash that CSC package?? But what is the one correspondent to the Official JB Polish??
I have the same thing after the Polish ROM. Does having an unknown CSC actually matter for any reason?
Threads seem to indicate that it doesn't, and my phone is working normally, but maybe I'm missing something obvious.
CSC may play a part if your network has fast dormancy .
CSC essentially contains a list of network setting for local areas .
Example
<Country>UK & IRE</Country><CountryISO>GB</CountryISO><Region>EUR</Region><SalesCode>BTU</SalesCode><NbNetworkInfo>20</NbNetworkInfo>-<NetworkInfo><MCCMNC>23410</MCCMNC><NetworkName>O2 UK Pay Monthly</NetworkName></NetworkInfo>-<NetworkInfo><MCCMNC>23410</MCCMNC><NetworkName>O2 UK Pay & Go</NetworkName></NetworkInfo>-<NetworkInfo>
CSC code is part of the HDSWVER code that is used for Kies /Ota updates if anyone actually uses that route .

You have corrupted CSC, Flash the rom again in Odin as CSC, i.e. put the MD5 file in CSC instead of PDA and it will fix the problem.
You have better reset your firmware by using "Firmware Upgrade And Initialization" in your Samsung KIES 2.5.0.12114_1.
You don't need a correct CSC for your phone as it will just download the firmware for you according to the serial number you provided to the software. However, please back up your phone first as it may delete all your data.
Is there a way to fix this WITHOUT resetting? I didn't encounter it until recently. I assume it's something related to using Mobile Odin, but not sure.

I am not sure about that. Maybe you just try to download the CSC corresponding to your firmware version and flash it with odin, but I don't know if it will reset your phone.
Anyone who really does know how to fix this (or if it is even necessary)?
I also had this problem. Reflashing the firmware again fix it for me.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Reflashed via desktop Odin, rooted via Chainfire's latest root method. Reset. Flashed CWM touch. Device status is Normal and CSC is correct.
Just for future reference, in case anyone searches for this later. This was the actual problem.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1950082
Simply reflashing the ROM via Mobile Odin and allowing the stock recovery to be flashed solved it. Flash the CWM recovery later, if you want it.
Works like a charm.

[Q] Possible to force firmware installation?

I downloaded the new firmware via OTA on my rotted phone, and it didn't install. I re-rooted it with CF-Root 6.3, but now If I check for software update it says "no update available." The build though is still the old I9300XXALE8 instead of ALF6, so I guess it isn't updated.
Is the updated firmware file saved somewhere, and if yes can I install it via CWM?
What else can I do?
Thanks
Jay
umm you could try sammobile or this link to go directly to sgs3 european official roms
http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&t=1&o=1&m=GT-I9300&r=1#regiona
and flash it using odin/mobile odin. Mobile odin would probably be better as you can keep root when u flash it

I'm assuming that you are refering to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646610
However, I have similar questions as the original poster.
I have CF-Root rooted stock firmware (Sweden, unbranded) and would like to update to the latest available (OTA failed). I know that I can download from sammobile.com or samsung-updates.com, but I have no idea which one to use.
http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&t=1&o=1&m=GT-I9300&r=1
http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-I9300
What has to match? CSC, Country/Carrier? Please enlighten me.
Well I'm new to the galaxy series so I couldn't be 100% sure about what you need to match to be sure you get right one. But I do know if you've used cf root you can still connect to kies, you could connect and either check firmware upgrade version then download that vers from one of the sites or update your phone with kies then type *#1234# in the dialler then using that info download that vers of the firmware to have in the future.
If you do go kies option you'll most likely need to cf root once upgraded and I can't be 100% sure it'll work as I updated my phone with kies before rooting but I know cf root doesn't change anything major so kies should still be able to upgrade.

I'm trying to avoid using Kies. Don't want to install it even. Still "download from one of the sites" is not too assuring. How do I know what sites to trust?
Also, my question was rather does me download have to match entirely or is it enough with the same region?
E.g. one of the links above has the Italian LF6 as latest version. Can I use that?

edit:- when u type *#1234# into your keypad whats the 3 codes it spits out?
I checked the sites out and it seems only the full roms are available. Actually I'd prefer just to flash the firmware so that I don't loose all my apps and settings. Or is there a way around this? I realise it's a lame question, but I'm new...

Yeah there orig samsung roms(firmwares), trick is to get the one for your country/region
Ok , if your sure the updated firmware should be a ALF6 version theres only 2 on sammobile
1. Germany unbranded
2. Italy
Wheres about are u from?
Have you tried the kies update method i mentioned earlier?
Kies is samsungs official software for managing your samsung android device it can sync contacts, backup data etc etc but also to update official firmware.
http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/usefulsoftware/KIES/JSP
I have it installed but not using it for backups etc just for when firmware updates are available.
Youve used cf root so the kies method should work ok but youll just need to reroot afterwards.
After several attempts, I managed to use Kies... I had to use a different USB port and it worked.
Thanks a lot!

Look on www.sammobile.com/firmware for samsung firmware.Telia is not listed, also not on check fus. So i think you need this rom http://www.hotfile.com/dl/163050326/a3cfdf1/I9300XXBLFB_I9300NEEBLF1_NEE.zip.html for the Nordic countries. Install Triangle Away (here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494114) first before flashing the rom with Odin to reset the flash counter. After you flashed the rom do a data/factory reset. Check first if the above rom i mentionedis the right one.
Was reading abit more (do not want to be stucked with a broken phone doing my vacation), found this is the I9300XXBLG6 the newest firmware and does it work for us on Telia in Denmark?

Better check on Telia`s website for the latest firmware. You might flash the rom in your post, however you may have to change the modem for better reception.

If i flash the new firmware again, do i need to root the phone again or does it "keep" the root i made earlier... Sorry for all the stupid questions i'm an old iphone fart. :silly:
I tried to search for a sammy wiki or something to become a little more clever about rooting, rom and firmware.
As i see it:
The firmware is kinda the phone bios, doesnt matter if you running a hacked version of the system or not.
The ROM is the "system" it might be stock or cyanogen etc.
You have to have a hacked firmware to be able root your phone.... Or am i totally wrong here?

If you buy Mobile Odin Pro and flash the firmware with that app you will keep root and you don`t loose no data. If you flash with Odin on your pc you will loose root and your user data will probably be deleted.

Flash it with Odin and root with CF Root 6.4. You can flash that firmware although i wouldn`t do it, it is a British Telecom provider rom. I would flash the rom in the 2nd post (nordic countries) wich i recommended. For instructions see m signature.

When u want then u root ur phone. I rooted my sgs only for my regional/language keyboard. Normally i don't like kies. Cuz this ****ty apps don't update samsungs newest firmware in some regional. So i think it's a unwanted apps. If u manually update/flash ur phone by odin, it don't recognize ur firmware. Everytime i update my phone by download newest firmware & flash it by odin in 10 to 20 minute.
