Can't Flash Roms. Xperia S Three UK - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Right here is the issue. I've changed this thread twice now to keep the clutter away. Seeing I can't unlock my bootloader due to it being a 3 mobile bootloader (If I can please help me out as im struggling to find info) I can't flash CM9? Or even 10 for that matter? This is really frustrating me, I don't have a clue what to do, a lot of the information on bootloaders like mine is very bare and slim and not really helping me or anyone else in my position out very much. I can't root either which is as big a ***** as the bootloader situation....can someone point me in the right direction or just plain tell me nothing that I want is possible?

Further more, roms don't contain bootloaders do they? It's the phone itself? However, saying this, it is possible to flash bootloaders on the motorola defy....would the case not be the same here?

If your bootloader is unlockable then you can not flash custom roms, ie cm9 or cm10.
However you can flash stock roms via flashtool and you can root with a locked bootloader, there are a couple of threads which tell you how to root, here's one

I am also with Three and have a locked BL, but using the guides found in these forums I managed to Root my device and even install MIUI yesterday, but MIUI is not great in my personal opinion so I reverted back to ICS.
There are not many ROMs out there for those of us with Locked BL's and until they find a way to get passed the BL or make more ROMs for us, we are limited to Stock ROMs and as far as I am aware not many of those exist besides MIUI.

Cheers lads! I'm just wondering now if we could take a leaf out of the Motorola Defy's development books. As I said, even with a locked bootloader they were using cm9 and even cm10 now! Unstable due to the old kernels, but still, managed it

All we can do is hope my friend, seems Sony were slow in every regard to develop for this phone and that in turn has limited the progress of external developers, I mean just look at the amount of time it has taken Sony to get ICS out to us and that has impacted others in development.
We are now seeing the FreeXperia Project rolling out builds, though they remain solely for Unlocked BL's, MIUI is a step in the right direction for us, so I see no reason why others for Locked BL's will not appear in due course. Patience is the game when it comes to the Xperia S.
By the way, I have read from a few people that getting the SIM Lock removed does in some instances lead to BL Unlocking ability, I contacted Three and they told me the charge for unlocking the SIM from them via a code is £15 and I believe it gets applied to your bill as a one off fee if you want to try it and see in the service menu if your BL after a reboot shows the ability to be unlocked.

I'm with 3 as well and the first thing I did was to have my xperia s sim unlocked.
This did not unlock the bootloader as I was hoping
Having said that I was able to root the thing using the tutorials in these forums, so I'm pretty happy
Have to say the stock ROM looks quite good and I'd try some other ROMs just for the sake of it

I would try and sim unlock the phone if my bill wasnt horrendous already, they charged me for twitter sending texts to me haha! So sad. But back to the topic, I was just floating around the Motorola Defy forum again and they somehow extracted the bootloader seperately to try and unlock it! I really hope someone looks in to this would be so helpful if someone could extract their own, unlocked BL and we could flash it! ;o

I maybe barking up the wrong tree here but when i had my X10 and was in associated forum. The bootloader was locked and root was difficult.
Some of the devs were in contact with Sony to try and come to some compromise on the security. ( hence un-branded phones now having unlocked boot loaders)
The trouble is...
On branded handsets the bootloaders contain certain information that your network providers don't want you to have access to.
The devs are aware of this and respectively leave the bootloader compromising alone.
This is not saying it can't be done, just saying that out of respect for sony allowing some phones to have unlocked bootloaders those that are locked are being treated to the respect sony asked for.
Of course not all devs worldwide are so respectful so it will be compromised and indeed has been but currently only for sim unlocking.
Of course this post may just be a crock-o-crap and people may already working on workarounds.???
I would guess that for bootloader unlocking your best bet would be a phone unlocking solution like setool or ezsemc but these are not going to be free options and currently not available on the XPS

Why i did'nt see anyone flashing the relock bootloader on a locked one. My common sense tells me that it might go from allowed=no to allowed=yes.
And you dont need fastboot access to flash it only flashmode and is tft file, just wondering..

Why were they able to root and unlock the thunderbolt boot loader so fast?

Why were they able to root and unlock the boot loader and everything else on the thunderbolt so quickly but yet no one can do it on the atrix?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Sorry, I don't know.
Because it's not locked or signed?
There's seems to be some discussion regarding it being locked or not. Engadget wrote an article about it being locked but there are a lot of comments from readers with evidence to the contrary.
With it being broken so fast, I believe it wasn't locked or signed.
Um. The phone is not unlocked. In fact the devs were in for a surprise to see the phone has signed bootloader. Signed karnel. Everything is sihned. Which is a furst for htc phone . The only thing they managed to do is root it. And they already did with the atrix. Once you have a signed bootloader and karnel. There is not much you can do.
The article was posted new today or yesterday at engadget. And nothing happened since then.
Its safe to assume all companies right now will use a locked bootloader and karnel. They dont want you to keep your phone. They want you to update.
So basically unless an employee leaks the codes we are s o l.that really sux.

Yea I'm in the same boat, I might just go back to my captivate in the next week. I really like this phone but I don't feel like much progress is being made. I know there are a few busting ass trying to crack this thing but that doesn't necessaraly mean theyre making progress. Although they did get a copy of that unlocked/deencrypted phone from ken so maybe we'll see something soon.

most android hackers are on verizon, because they went in with android first. the least amount of android hackers are on at&t. also, they had better resources, they were leaked a beta bootloader that was unlocked, and also a previous ruu image (like sbf but for htc)

I don't know the true reason, but historically, HTC phones are more "open" and "hackable" than Motorola phones (excluding the original Droid). It's just a different company policy more than likely. Is this policy different with the Thunderbolt? I'm not sure...
there is a definitive difference between 'Locked' and 'Encrypted'

Verizon Bootloader

I am about to upgrade my phone, and Im eyeing the Play, however, will the bootloader be unlockable(or bypassable) on the Verizon variant? Since I got a DROID2, that's a must have feature. Any help would be thanked greatly.

Unlock is not possible yet on CDMA Xperia phones. It's currently being investigated, and hopefully solution will come soon
Well, is root and flashing roms similarly to the Droid2/X/X2 possible?

Nothing of the sort is possible but everything is being worked on.. We are all waiting.
Yes. Its possible. The difference will just be whether we find people willing to do the work. If all dev work stopped now, the process would go like this: wait for new root exploit, root phone, use second init process to boot cm7.... Just like the d2 and dx

People are trying to work on getting the bootloader unlocked, despite SonyEricsson not willing to give any help to the CDMA variant folks (R800x). The document you pointed gives pretty much the universal variant of how to unlock and root for all of the R800 series _EXCEPT R800x_ (which is what Verizon carries). Since you can't unlock the bootloader, you can't currently flash a new/different ROM.
So for now, people are working on it, albeit slowly. Don't expect a unlock/root method in the next day, but it will happen eventually. I know I'm eagerly awaiting it.
I'll work on that too when I get the phone.
I believe Verizon's phones aren't unlockable because Verizon wants total SW control over device.
I'm patiently waiting as well.

[SOLVED] In Need of a TA Backup

I need a GSM TA backup to attempt to flash to a r800x that in order to investigate a potential unlock capability this might have. The requirements of the TA are thus:
Phone must be currently bootloader locked
Phone must be unlockable through official Ericsson methods
Probably looking for r800i or r800a TA files here
Basically I'm just looking for a TA from a GSM play that can be unlocked through the official site, but currently is not. Thanks so much!
Before unlocking my bootloaders (R800i here), I made a TA backup. Expect a PM

You, sir, are awesome. I'll do what I need to do and post back some results tonight. These are the steps I'm going to take:
Flash your TA against my CDMA phone.
Use omnius to identify the phone and get the IMEI (which should be yours now).
Attempt to unlock the bootloader using your IMEI.
Reflash the CDMA TA file.
Hope for the best!

So at least this tells us some important things about the process. It appears that at least one major level, the hardware is not the same between the GSM and CDMA variants.
I still think we got this though. It's only a matter of time before a new root exploit breaks through or Blagus comes up with a way to tell the bootloader it's unlocked without having to actually give in a key.
Blagus, you're trying to unlock the bootloader... but isn't it contrary to what Bin4ry said is your policy?

i know... but a small internal test isn't bad... and a share of unique TA file to a user or two (meaning it's useless to others)... but i believe more and more that it'll never even happen since it's all hashed, and a key which purpose is unknown, in security zone... (probably bl key hash)
i understand that SE would be pissed off, and some freexperia members could get in trouble... if theory proves to be true i'll try my best, but cdma phones seem to be different. not accepting gsm radio files, brick after writing GSM TA... plus, probably losing cdma after unlock fix, and verizon users are under contract, right?
Sent from my E15i using XDA App
I personally don't think that SE would be pissed about the community circumventing the security on the CDMA Xperia because I think they they truly wanted to embrace the open community. I think that if there is a reason behind why we don't have an official unlock solution yet, it's because Verizon wants to keep it as locked down as possible. I mean what does Ericsson have to lose? Nothing. In fact they only stand to gain sales from the users like me who only purchased this device because of the prospect of a first party unlock solution. Sony has their hands tied. Verizon thinks they have a lot to lose (the warranty and trouble shooting issues, the tethering, etc.).
Its unfortunate but the sad truth is that we will more than likely have to wait for another root exploit to drop and then use the second init method that the milestones and droidx's are using to boot CM7 currently. That will be our saving grace and the only reason to keep the device.

I need a dev unlocking crew

Alright, I'm tired of this bootloader crap! I need anyone and everyone interested in helping me get this MoPho'in bootloader unlocked on 2.3.5!
We have WAY to many people stuck on GB (after Moto said we'd have ICS ) on this beast of a phone!
Before anyone asks, YES i have the skills to do this, just not enough to do it quickly.
With that said I do bring some skills to the table.
I can program in the Android language and port just about anything anyone can come up with.
I know my tech (to put it short)
Please anyone with the same feeling as me, come help me out in ANY way possible. Even if it's just testing. I would greatly appreciate it!
Please people!

Hmm well I learned that sprint was a big reason the BL got locked. The Electrify sbf (Yes i flashed it) is unlockable easily however my radios dont work so i cant have that. I did find some cool things inside the System partition. I rooted it up and got a file browser (ES). The blocks where the BL is has a special file called infooemenc.encf assuming this has to do with our "fastboot oem unlock" command problem. That file however was a fluke. My phone soft reset itself (doesnt like the Electrify rom) and POOF gone... Very suspicious. i had to relock to go back to photon state though

anyone wokring on unlocking the bootloader?

hello. sorry for the question but can somebody tell if anyone is working on unlocking the bootloader in devices with the status "unlock bootloader allowed:no"?
thanks
Impossible, if your boot loader comes locked there isn't anything you can do to unlock it. Best to sell it and buy one unlockable.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
i know today it is impossible, has it was in my first android phone the xperia x10. what im asking if anyone is working on that or at least installing custom rooted roms with the locked bootloader...
thanks
As far as I am aware, no one will be able to unlock the bootloader ever. No one has managed it since 2011 as they're locked down tighter than....well you know.
However, people have previously found an exploit for root. That allows you to install custom roms, xposed etc but does not allow custom kernels (not a huge problem in my eyes, I've always found kernels to be slightly beneficial but also buggy if you're not an expert)
There's people working on it, but as of yet had no luck. I'm in the same boat as you, so guess it's just a waiting game.
