Couple of Questions - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys, I have a few questions.
1. How do I make my gallery display only media that's on the phone? Right now it displays my Google+ pictures as well, and it puts them in different folders. So, my gallery is full of folders.
2. I've enabled "Force GPU rendering" and everything runs a lot smoother, including games. Is this going to destroy my battery life? (online search not conclusive)
3. Is there a mod for the home button (physical) to change it's functionality? It would be great if it could be used for accessing the task switcher. (tap not hold). Or even double tap, since I don't use S-Voice.
Thanks.

1) use quickpic. or, disable sync gallery for google+, then go to setting, application, all, gallery, wipe data/cache for gallery.
2) not.
3) only happen in custom rom. if dev support it. never in stock rom.

Thanks. I had disabled Google Photos Sync, from the Accounts and Sync settings, but they stayed, however, the "clear data" did the trick. I am very grateful.
Thanks again, I love XDA :good:

[Q] Camera shutter different app

My Evo 3D always started the standard Camera when I pressed the dedicated shutter button. Now I installed Camera Effects, and it starts that one instead of the HTC Camera.
Normally, I have a choice which one I want to start, and I can choose a standard one. But this time, it just picked Camera Effects...
I already went to the app, to disable the 'standard' features, but the button was greyed out.
How do I get the HTC Amaze camera back as default camera?
Go to manage applications and wipe that apps defaults.
Via My HTC Evo 3D On The Now Network From Sprint.

As I said, the button is greyed out...
I am using MikRunny 1.01, but that shouldn't be the problem.

Check the main(stock) camera app in Manage applications and CLEAR THE DEFAULTS.
Do the same in any other camera app you may have installed. Clear defaults.
Then when you press the camera button, it should ask which youd like to execute by default.
Its the same idea as if you had multiple browsers installed, for example on my nexus s. I press the browser icon in the launcher dock and it will ask me which to launch and whether I want to set it as default.
It normally asks me wether I want to make the app standard or not, but this time, I didn't.
All the defaults are already cleared, so I don't know what to do...
Sometimes it starts the normal camera app, but when I do it again, it opens Camera Effects... It's very odd...
Hmm, that's weird. I installed Default App manager, and it tells me that I don't have a default app set for the Camera.
So now I fixed it by making the Camera as default, via the Default App Manager.
This thread can be closed!
Thanks for the help!
Edit: Nope, can't be closed.
Still not fixed.
Camera is now default app, but it stíll starts the other app...
I guess I'll just delete it.
Figured I'd post this here. Worked perfectly for me.

[Q] Missing apps in 'Share via' menu

I just installed the stock deodexed Jelly Bean ROM and I've run into a weird problem. I have GMail, Facebook, Evernote, etc installed, but they don't show up as options in the 'Share via' menu in Chrome and other apps. All I get in the 'Share via' menu are four options: Astrid Tasks, Bluetooth, chomp SMS, and Dropbox. I've tried reinstalling Chrome and the various other apps that I would like to have in the menu, but no luck. All apps show up just fine in the Gallery app's 'Share' menu, but I think that menu is specific to Gallery since it's an HTC app, not a native Android app. Anyone know how to edit the "Share via" menu or how I can get these missing options to show up?
its now a scrollable menu, should be able to scroll up and down.

Wow. I can't believe how dumb I am. I was going through the XML files, looking for where the share menu config settings might be. It simply didn't occur to me that the menu might be scrollable since it occupied such a small portion of the screen. D'oh. Thanks a million.
In any case, I did find an app with a good workaround for my non-existent problem:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.andmadesoft.share&hl=en
The purpose of this app is that it lets you replace the standard share menu with a customizable share menu in which you can select multiple sharing options at once.

[Xposed][APP][4.0+] Quick Access (from Lockscreen)

* This is an Xposed module. You MUST have Xposed Framework installed. Otherwise this app WILL NOT FUNCTION.. You can download Xposed here: http://repo.xposed.info/module/de.robv.android.xposed.installer
With Quick Access, you can allow your selected apps to be launched over the lockscreen without unlocking your device. You can also swipe up from the on-screen home button to launch Google Now or launch applications from lockscreen widgets without unlocking your phone . For example, allow your camera, music, and to-do list applications to be launched over the lockscreen to access them in an instant. Allow your friends to browse your music library without fully unlocking your device, quickly add a task to your to-do list; or never miss that photo opportunity; with Quick Access the possibilities are limitless!
In addition, Quick Access also enables you to expand your status bar in secure lockscreen and also show all widgets (instead of only lockscreen widgets) in lockscreen widget picker
Computer Mode: This allows you to let the timer keep going, even when the screen is off. This means that you can use EyeRelax to limit your time on the computer, television, or whatever other device you own, without using battery to keep the screen on and the timer running!
Notes:
- To launch applications from DashClock widget, please select DashClock in Quick Access. Or more specifically the activity: com.google.android.apps.dashclock.WidgetClickProxyActivity.
- To launch Google Now by swiping up from the on-screen home button while in the lockscreen, please select Google Now in Quick Access, or more specifically the activities: com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox.SearchActivity AND com.google.android.velvet.ui.VelvetActivity.
- This application does not actually launch the applications (yet), it just allows them to be launch (via other methods) over the lockscreen. A good application to do that is DashClock.
Downloads:
Google Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.TwinBlade.QuickAccess
Xposed Repo: http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.twinblade.quickaccess
will surely giv a try.

Yes it should work with all stock Android lockscreens.
experiencing what I believe is a bug:
I had three apps check to allow quick access, I rebooted, and now when I go back into QA they are all unchecked, and I can no longer check any other apps due to the 3 app restriction.
Sry but i don't really understand how it works. I tried it with some apps. Can someone post a example pic?

Thanks for the bug report. The issue has been fixed and version 1.2 has been push to the play store and the xposed repository.

I'll give an example. If you select your music application in Quick Access, you don't have to unlock your lockscreen to view that app. If you launch your music app and turn your screen off and on again, normally you'll have to unlock the lockscreen to access your music app, but with QA the music app will be displayed over the lockscreen so it's the first thing you see when you turn your screen on.
Another example with lockscreen widgets. If you have a google now widget on your lockscreen and click on it, normally you'll have to unlock first; with QA google now will be displayed over the lockscreen.
I have the examples make sense.
Ahh know i understand, thx!
Have trouble with this. I select the apps in QA, reboot, and nothing on my lockscreen.
Any suggestions?

If you launch one of the apps you selected, turn your screen off and on again, do you see your lockscreen or the app you just launched?
Does not work for me I am on slimrom

ah, okay now it works perfectly. Didnt know I had to launch the app first.
i like this app / idea . Thanks
is it available in the Downloads section of the xposed app??

If your Downloads page is set to sort by status, it's right there in alphabetical order. If it's sorted by last update, it's the fifth listed. If it's sorted by creation date, it's the first one at the top of the page. And this is ignoring the fact that Xposed has a search function.
Quick Access (v. 1.3) crashes every time I try to launch it.
I'm on a Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 with stock ROM (4.3).
OP: High hopes for this little app if got working perfectly!
BUG: Reboot command fails to execute. The app gets stuck at the command, and force closes!

Sounds like a root issue to me.
FWIW, it's better to just use the reboot option in the power menu anyways. The reboot option in the power menu allows apps and processes to terminate gracefully whereas when an app reboots it just kills all apps and processes.
interesting concept. so is this the same kind of idea as what google maps does then? where if the screen goes off, and you unlock, it will just wake up to maps? and then if you try to back out, it'll request that you do the passcode?

Google photos problem

I can't get Google photos to consistently upload. I have settings in the app set to wifi and while charging, but they only upload while the app is open and stop within a minute or two when using a different app or turning the screen off.
It's running the latest global rom, but i think the problem has always been there. Miui seems to kill the app and there's nothing i can do to stop it. In battery options i have set the restrict apps n background to off, and also in developer options the memory setting to off.
Any ideas?
Open Google Photos fully then close it. Click recent apps button, find Google Photos icon, drag down until you see a padlock and release. App won't be killed. Do this for all apps you want to keep alive. Also enable in Auto-start.

thanks for the tips, I'd forgotten to try the lock function and will give that a go. I did think of enabling autostart for it but it didn't appear in the list, i guess because it's a system app.

Question Questions about Mi 11 Lite 5G

Hello, I picked up my device and upgraded to 12.5.5 EU rom with regular OTA. Couple of questions where I couldn't find answers with Google.
1. Stock camera app does not remember the setting for 4K30 in Video settings. I select 4K30 but next time I open the app the setting goes back to 1080p30. Anyone has this issue?
2. Is there a way to set Google Photos as default photo app in stock camera app instead of Gallery?
3. I use app drawer but the phone keeps adding newly installed apps to the home screen. There was a toggle for this but couldn't find it in settings. Any ideas?
So far seems like a nice device. Good size and lightweight. I will install BSG Gcam on it but I still would like to use Stock camera for videos.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Also make sure battery optimization is on and app not allowed to run in background (unless needed of course). Some apps/processes are also called by other apps. Ultimately root is the way to go if you want full control.
Hello, manisa 236!
First I want to apologize for my English. I am still learning it. In this post I will try to answer some of your questions.
1. Stock camera app does not remember the setting for 4K30 in Video settings. I select 4K30 but next time I open the app the setting goes back to 1080p30. Anyone has this issue?
Open the stock camera app and go to settings, scroll down and activate "Save previous mode" slider.
2. Is there a way to set Google Photos as default photo app in stock camera app instead of Gallery?
I don't know it that is possible.
3. I use app drawer but the phone keeps adding newly installed apps to the home screen. There was a toggle for this but couldn't find it in settings. Any ideas?
Go to "Settings --> Home screen" and open the inside menu cold again "Home screen" and at the bottom of this menu you shall see the option "Place new apps on the Home screen" toggle. Just disable it.
Greetings from Spain!
Thank you very much for your answers. In camera app Save Previous Mode remembers the shooting mode (Photo, Video, Portrait etc ) but when I choose 4K30 under Video and open the app next time it still defaults to 1080p30. It looks like a bug.
