Right now DroidWall is your only option it may only block internet access but that's enough because for an app to steal your info and transfer it, it needs an internet connection.

Some apps need internet like facebook. But I don't want to share my contacts for example :/

Then you stop running bleeding edge and stick with standard until software catches up. LBE didn't work on ICS either when it first came out.

Not exactly what you're after but Lucky Patcher can remove/modify permissions of apps. Amongst other things.
Sent from my CM9 powered monster!

You could try this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stericson.permissions&hl=en

LBE has a full-featured app that supports Android 4.1 They only make a Chinese version but the kind folks in this thread have been translating it into English.

Besides the 'Permissions Denied' that was pointed out before I use as a complement Gemini App Manager, that gives me a quick view of permissions used and allos to manage the 'autorun' oprtions of the apps:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...EsImNvbS5zZWFzbWluZC5hbmRyb2lkLmdtYXBwbWdyIl0.
It is apity that LBE does not work now because it was really usefull

What about PDroid?
If you dont mind patching your system, this tool will give you the ultimate control about the private data lurking apps.
Personally i can't imagine using a ROM without PDroid installed.
Too many apps want too much data wich have nothing to do with the data the apps needs to work fine, this private data lurking has gone out of joint!
Check out Pdroid 2.0 by CollegeDev for more infos.

I doubt so, I'm using CM10 and nothing of this, maybe you mean MIUI? It had LBE as a default permission manager I think.

LBE 4.1.2224 works just fine on Android 4.1.

if you happen to have made the mistake of installing LBE, you can fix permissions in recovery to be able to get back into the phone and uninstall LBE from the play store.

I was able to start superuser and remove the permissions for LBE in the few secs between bootloops. Once superuser permission is revoked it stops the bootloop. Bloody frustrating though, it took me 3 trys to be quick enough. Next time I'll use safe mode This renders the app useless though and I dont want apps reading my privy sh*t. just look at the permissions on Angry birds!
The newest version from the market still crashed my phone. Its now March 2013 so Jelly bean hardly 'bleeding edge' now.
Does anyone know when an update for Jellybean is out or even if they are working on it?

This is a good app. I think it could be a bit technical for some as there are a great deal more features in this than on privacy guard and the app ui is much busier due to the extra features (adaware, antivirus etc). The english on the latest version (4.4.2868 as of writing this) seems fine and it warns you if go to enable a feature which has not yet been translated, only 2 that I have found out of the many on there.

Unfortunately, it still seems to go into an infinite boot loop, JB 4.1.2 on razr maxx, when the active protection mode is enabled.
I ended up using Settings - Apps - LBE Privacy Guard - Force Stop - Uninstall as soon as the phone booted, to get it to stop.

[Q] CyanogenMod 10 lacks app permissions management

I read that CM10 does not have the feature that made CM7 really stand above all other roms. App permissions management. If this is true, I'd like to know why such a terrific feature was not brought over to the newer versions. I really liked that I could take away the ability for apps to "automatically start at boot."
Is there something built in to ICS / JB that negates the need for this feature to be in CyanogenMod?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can shed light on this.
Bump

It was never really stable in the first place, and caused FCs.
However, there are root apps that allow permissions management anyways, so if youu really want that feature just download one of those suckers

Thanks for the reply. It's a shame they took it out, even if it made some apps unstable. I'll look in the play store for something similar.

Somebody on the CM-Forum claimed to know that Google forced CM to drop permission management, otherwise they would have closed GooglePlay for CM devices.
There are 2 apps you could try ( look em up in the forum):
-LBE privacy guard
-Pdroid
I used Pdroid for quite some time and I quite liked it, because it spoofes app permissions. so no more FCs.
However, Pdroid corrupted my contacts and calendar while syncing with SyncMate. So I don't use it anymore.

[Q] Best way to remove bloatware on nonrooted phone?

My job gives me a Samsing S4 from Verizon that is filled with bloat. I have to manually go in and disable everything which takes about 4 hours or so. I am looking for an app that can do it for me but it needs to be a well known app not something that somebody just posts an apk. Any auggestions?
We are not allowed to root the phones. It would be great if I could put a googe play edition or developer edition rom on it or something but I don't think that's possible.

You will have to root your phone for all this. You can only flash stock rom on the device without rooting it.
What bloat wares are we talking about specifically? Do you mean all the S-voice/S-Note/Air gestures??
They can be activated and deactivated from the pull down menu. Other things need to be disabled manually! There is no work around this without root. You can try the widgets on the screen that allow you to disable wi-fi and bluetooth but its nothing new than what samsung offers from the pulldown menu
Hit thanks if this was helpful!

What, you mean you don't absolutely NEED NFL Mobile? And Verizon Navigator is so much better than Google Maps!
[/sarcasm]
You can't remove system apps without root. Clean Master has a function to remove bloat if you're rooted. I don't know if this is changed to disabling if you're not rooted, because my devices are rooted. I seem to remember a previous version of Clean Master had something like that. It merely took you to the app info scree, one at a time, but at least it did it sequentially instead of you having to hunt for each one on your own. Maybe that still exists.
Since Android 4.1, many bloatware type apps can just be disabled via the the built-in Application Manager in your Settings app. Disabling it will hide it from the launcher and make it so it does not run, essentially doing the same thing as uninstalling it. It is better this way because some phones will not properly update if something is modified or removed from the /system partition. Also worth noting in regards to this as it is a popular misconception, removing these unwanted apps will not provide you with more usable storage as they are contained in /system/app and the apps you install via the Play Store or 3rd party sources will only install to /data/app unless rooted and moved.
That being said, TowelRoot is a newer rooting method for many newer phones running 4.4+(especially Galaxies like the S4 and Note 3). This root method is done via an app on the phone and only takes seconds and does not trip Knox. You could root, freeze what you needed and then unroot without anyone the wiser, though, of course, this is done at your own risk - like any other mod.

Yes you can disable them but it takes about 4 hours to do it each time. There's a lot of them. About 95% of stuff needs to be disabled.
Towelroot looks great unfortunately I am not able to root the phone. They don't use knox. I can do anything but root the phone really. I really just want vanilla android I'm a bit sick of touchwiz. I'd love to just flash to the developer edition or something.

The S4s bootloader is locked so basically not a lot to choose from. And as others have mentioned you need root to gain access to remove bloatware. Sadly samsung phones on VZW are filled with it as well as many other phones, it's not limited to just samsung.
And navigator may be better than Google maps but maps is free and having been a former user of both NFL mobile (when it was free) and navigator I'm happy I got rid of both of them

[Xposed][MODULE][5.0+] UnrestrictedGetTasks

Disable restricting Android API to get recent tasks in Lollipop and newer. This restriction causes that some apps (e.g. Greenify) don't work as they should, since Android now returns nothing or useless info when they want to get recent tasks. This module should fix it as it was before.

Is that a yes or no?
PackageUsageStats is not same as getRecentTasks. I doubt you can get same info from PUS as in getRecentTasks in pre-LP.
Hi,
May I ask what you mean by giving the example of Greenify? What exactly is the shortcoming with Greenify in L in contrast to pre-L?
I was following their change logs and it seems to me that there is nothing Greenify nowadays couldn't do in L. What am I missing?
I am just asking, because I am not sure why and whether I should install this module as a Greenify (beta) user.
Wouldn't it be easier to introduce your fix in their own code?
Modify module to work for only one app?
I'm wondering how I could modify this module to make it so that it only works for one particular app (Last App Switcher). I like the idea of Android preventing third party apps from getting my recent app details, but I also miss using LAS.
I'm thinking that in the call to XposedBridge.hookAllMethods() I could replace the third argument XC_MethodReplacement.returnConstant(true) with a instance of XC_MethodHook that checks the calling app's package name and if it matches the package I want to target (com.abhi.lastappswitcher) then it would return true, otherwise it would call the standard Android isGetTasksAllowed function normally. I've never done any Xposed development though so I'm not sure I'm going about it the right way.
Hi @pyler,
Is this module still needed in Android M for apps like Greenify?
Thanks

No, since many devs already use new APIs.. If you have old app, not updated for LP/MM, this maybe needed for full app functionality.
A fantastic module, some apps still require this to work, an app from myself for myself for example: RAMTool https://tiziocaio.store.aptoide.com/app/market/com.thepriest.andrea.ramtool/1422/22796519/RAM+Tool
Since my app analyzes recent and running apps and on a regular interval, I fear that using UsageStatsManager will degrade performance, I am afraid that the cpu will be more stressed.
Rewriting my code to get worse perfornce than before doesn't make me happy ...that's probably the reason i hadn't yet wrote it.
Are my fears unfounded?

Problem with auto-rotate on Eragon v 2.8 ROM

Have installed Eragon v 2.8 after full wipe as per instructions. Installed a second launcher, deleted system nova with mixplorer, installed nova prime 4.3.1 from an APK file I have, deleted second launcher, setup rest of my phone.
The problem is auto-rotate function doesn’t work, if I have the auto-rotate selected in android only or android & nova prime, it won’t rotate pictures, videos and apps automatically when I physically rotate phone.
It’s not a hardware problem as using twrp I restored to a backup of Eragon v 2.0 that I have and auto-rotate works fine and in each new version of Eragon I have installed the same copy of Nova Prime 4.3.1. Also tested it with an older version of Nova prime 2.0 with Eragon 2.8 and exactly the same problem. I have been having this problem since Eraogon v 2.5 .
Its not a huge problem just a little annoying, any ideas appreciated. Thanks.

check this:
settings/display / auto rotate.
in nova settings look if auto rotate is enbaled.
also in nova settings menu . long press vol up or down and you will have a secret "labs" menu also look there.
I've got the same Problem and none of your suggestions work. I use the included luncher.
Only difference is that I'm running the ROM on the Lite Version of the P9000.

Ok, glad you have sorted yours out. I am using the P9000, not the lite version. I hope the next version of Eragon will sort my problems with auto-rote out.
Hi. Latest version of Eragon v3, doesn’t resolve the auto-rotate problem. Installed Eragon v3 after full wife as per instructions. Straight after installation signed into google store and downloaded QuickPic App and viewed some pictures and videos.
So what should happen?
When you view a picture and have phone in vertical position, as you rotate phone to horizontal position, the picture should automatically rotate back so it can be viewed correctly at optimum size in horizontal position. When you rotate phone to vertical, the picture should automatically rotate again so it can viewed correctly at optimum size in vertical position. This especially useful when having landscape and portrait orientated picture galleries.
The same should happen with videos & apps, and by selecting auto rotate in the Nova settings you can make it happen with the launcher screen too.
What is actually happening?
As you fiscally rotate phone to horizontal position, the picture stays still. Sometimes after tapping side of phone it rotates correctly, when you return phone to vertical position the picture rotates 180º and not 90º so you are viewing it incorrectly. The same with video.
I use quickpic app to view galleries but it does the same in the standard gallery app.
This is the exactly the same problem I reported in Eragon v2.8 and that I have been experiencing since v 2.5 . I don’t think its a hardware problem as I restored to a backup copy of Eragon v 2.0 and auto-rotate work perfectly.
This is a problem that effects each and every viewing of pictures, videos and some apps so I’d say it’s quiet an important bug/problem.
I think it’s a software problem and not hardware, but no other users have reported similar problem so I cant be sure. I need to know if I’m the only person having these issues.
P:S:
I’m so disillusioned with Elephone and the P9000, its problem after problem, how does a company sell a product that is half working? I feel like going back to my Nexus 4

The problem is I can't reproduce this issue. And it seems you are the only one with that weird thing..its really strange

OK, I have installed latest 20160608 stock Rom and have exactly same problem. I doubted that it ever worked so restored backup of Eragon v2 and auto-rotate works perfectly :-/

I am sorry . I don't know why autorotate don't work for you.. It dont work when nothing is installed?
The issue must be on users side..
No one else have this..
I will differ the stock bases for you.. Maybe i will find the cause

Thank you.
I just don’t understand it either, I have the same phone as everyone else, I do a full wipe and install the same zip file and I get different results.
I understand it’s an unusual problem and I appreciate your help.
That is the strange thing, I install Eragon v3 and viewed some pictures in the gallery and they don’t rotate so install Quickpic to double check and the same, it doesn’t work. You notice it straight away, in Eragon v2 it works perfectly, very fast and responsive.
Trust me to get the P9000 manufactured in a rush on Friday night
Aleluya!!!!! have finally sorted it out.
I was searching St. Google for this problem and found this page;
http://bbs.elephone.hk/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=2929&page=1&ordertype=1#pid25990
Downloaded "MTK Engineering Mode" from store and calibrated the G-sensor whilst putting the phone on the floor.
It now works perfectly. MTK app has lots of testing & calibrating options, might be useful for other things.
I’m so glad this is sorted. Thanks for the help received.

how can I get the banking apps working on rooted XZ1?

Hi at all, I need a solution that I can use my banking apps with my rooted XZ1.
When I have no root on it, I can not use my camera (DRM Fix), so I want to use
all functions of this phone and also these special apps.
Is there someone with a solution for this problem?

Well....I had a straeming service that was restricted not to work with rooted devices. When I got the answer "it is just the way it is" I just discontinued the service and changed to another provider...
If your bank have an app that restricts rooted devices...just switch bank.

Most banks have this limitation in their apps.
It's not that easy to change the bank.

Hi,
Do not know with Sony roots method yet but when I was using HTC 10 those issues was resolved by using Magisk root method instead of the Super SU one.
Share your result if you find a way.
BTW : Streaming Netflix was and still is not possible on rooted devices... Except if you download the app and install it.

I would it testing, but I cannot install Magisk on my phone.
It depends on the firmware.

Swedbank, Swisch and BankID is working here at my rooted XZ1, too.
Maybe there is some weird security algorithms added on the bank apps over in Germany ;p

Try Magisk instead of SuperSU. On early phone, I noticed Magisk can somehow fool checks and it was possible even bypass Android Pay root check.
However I did not trie that on XZ1
Thanks for your answer, I tried it with Magisk and then it works, but without SU, I have no working camera
