With all due respect sir. I can ask this question. I rooted my first android phone because of xda. I also learned how to flash my first windows phone here at xda years ago by asking questions like this one. I'm sorry if your eyes sore when you see noob like me. And i'm asking for specific parameters like android ver 2.3.5 with speedrom . I can't find any posts that match like that one.

Just flash CM9 in CWM. It will also install CM9 ICS kernel so you're good to go. Maybe you'll need to flash another modem in case your GB modem doesnt work with ICS.
After that, I would recommend to flash Siyah kernel, but its up to you.
P.S. DO NOT EVER USE ROM MANAGER (it comes with CM9)

Do i need to flash the Kernel with custom ROM?

Very quick question this as i cant find the exact answer to be safe.
I have rooted my stock KF3 SGS2 using the CF-Root method. All is well..
I see a lot of custom ROM's using different kernels as bases.. so if i say flashed Sensation ROM which has the base of KG6 - can i flash it safely? And would i have to flash the KG6 kernel?
I am happy with flashing custom roms (Come from Desire) - but this bit has me confused with regards to KErnels..
Thanks
Pretty much all custom rom's come with a kernal that will work ok. No need to change it. It is built-in and will overwrite your current one.
It comes down to personal preference. You can flash a custom rom the flash another kernal (cf root, speedmod, siyah) if you like. I am forever testing different kernals on the one rom.
I think of those custom kernals mentioned above only cf root is rom dependent. That is Ki4 rom needs cf root for ki4.

Most kernels will work with most roms. But there are a very few cases of incompatibility. When this happens, just flash another kernel.

[Q] About flashing Siyah kernel

Just one short question so I dont do something stupid: do I need to do some kind of procedure or anything before I flash Siyah 3.0.1.? The phone has ALL stock software and settings and hasn't been tampered like this in any way as its only several days old.
Thanks in advance.
bad move. 3.0.1 is for ics rom. You are likely to be on gingerbread.

If you have not installed CWM, you can just install it via Odin. Also make sure that you actually have ICS (android 4.XX) installed on your phone or it wont work.
Just to confirm, you have the i9100? Not the US T-mobile version of SGS2?

Yeah I'm on Gingerbread, all stock. Should I flash 3.0 instead?
And I still dont know is there something to do, some kind of procedure or something before the flashing.
Here it says it already needs to be rooted before the flash...

do not install that siyah 3 kernel if you are still on gingerbread. You have 2 options. Install siyah 2.6.14 for gingerbread, or upgrade your current rom to ICS and then install siyah 3.
So, for example I could go with Speedmod or CfRoot, flash some Ics rom(Miui for example) and then flash Siyah?
If you want to stay on gingerbread and use siyah, use siyah 2.6.14 or lower. If you want to go to ICS, use siyah 3.0 or higher. It's that simple. 2.6.x only works on gingerbread, and 3.x only works on ICS.
just flash recovery

If its brand new and stock, first root (zergrush method), flash CF-Root using odin, get ClockWorkMod (using rom manager from market).
After that you can go ahead and flash any ICS rom but first backup everything.
So backup contacts (I just go to contacts and from menu use export to SD card), sms (using any sms backup app from market), all the apps you would like to save for later use with Titanium Backup (free addition is fine).
Also do a back for your stock rom in recovery (I suppose you can do that even before rooting - but I did it after I rooted and got CF-Root kernel).
Hope it helps.
Thanks a lot!
But doesnt Cf Root already come with CWM?
And is this the right method?

That guy is great, but what's creating a confusion about Siyah is FAQ on his page:
Q: Does this kernel work on XXXXXX-ROM?
A: If the ROM is based on Samsung Stock ICS Rom LPQ or newer, it should. Otherwise, search the thread... If you cannot find any reference to that ROM, try the kernel. You won't lose anything by trying this kernel. Worst case scenario is to reflash your previous kernel or ROM. You can backup your previous kernel with Hellcat's k-tool from the market.
So, I tried with 3.0 on my GB 2.3.4., and it didn't work, so I had to flash old kernel.
The reason I want to use Siyah is dual-boot, which it should provide.
Another problem is that ICS comes very slowly.
Siyah V3 doesn't work with Gingerbread roms. It's an ICS kernel. Try Siyah 2.6.14, that's the GB version (look for the thread in the dev section).
I'm still so confused about all of this and can't decide what to do. In addition, there is no cf-root for my kernel(BOKK1).
From the CFRoot thread "What if there is no matching download ? Try finding the closest match." & "The XX and OXA identifiers are not that important" (in your case the BO).

Siyah Kernel up to 3.01 (which is for ICS as you are already told) up to now does not support dual boot! Its only a placeholder till now in CWM. It may support dual boot in future but not now.

Hi,
I m new to root and flashing custom roms and i ve read as many forums and posts as possible, but i still couldn t find out this: if i want to install a custom rom based on ics, do i need to first install and root an ics stock rom? Or can i flash it even from a gb?
And also, if I m using let s suppose ics xwlpg but the custom rom is based on ics xwlp7, both of them 4.0.3, can i flash it anyway? Or should i first install the right ics?
I hope i made myself clear. Please let me know if i did not.
Thanks

To a flash any rom you first need a kernel for your current gb rom that has cwm recovery built into it, such as a cf-root kernel among others. After than you can flash any rom you want, either ics or even gb doesn't matter if its newer or older.
I think this two vedios would help you

Is there any final result difference between rooting the Poland ics or the German one, if i m intended to install a custom Rom after that? I mean will the custom rom completely replace the stock one? Or only part of it?

If you want install a custom firstly no need to same based rom for example; your device installed lp7 but custom based lpg or lp4 or lp9 iy does not matter mist be same based firmware.
For example to my device; I had installed official lpf for italy but my custom rom based lpg and everythimg is good i did not sre any problem with instaal this rom.
Sorry for bad english,I hope to explain to about your question.

[Q] CM10 Stock Kernel?

Hey can anyone provide me the link with the stock cm 10 kernel, i was on cm10 but then i flashed a different kernel n i wanna go back to the cm10 stock kernel. how can i do this? does anyone have the link to it? thanks
Flash CM10 again without wiping; the kernel will overwrite your existing kernel. Once you've done that, get kTool from Google Play (and buy Hellcat a beer) & dump the CM10 kernel to your internal SD card.
That way, in the future, if you try out other kernels & want to go back to to the CM10 kernel you'll be able to flash just the kernel (with Mobile Odin or Odin) without having to flash the whole rom (whenever you flash a new CM10 build, do this step immediately afterwards so you have a copy of the latest kernel).
Or....you could ask in the CM10 discussion thread, tho you'd be able to do the above 50 times in the time you'd wait to get an answer/a link to just the kernel
Nice, didn't realise there was such app that can do that. Thanks
Of and do you think it will work with stock Ics kernel? I don't see why not tbh

Yep. You can dump any kernel with kTool & then flash the kernel with Odin/Mobile Odin.

[Q] About which kernel to use

howdy,
I just got this i9100 with the kernel : 2.6.35.7-i9100XWKDD-CL161513 [email protected] #2.
I'd like to put cfroot and clockword etc.. on it but I got a little bit confused.
From what I understand I have to put a newer version kernel on it with similar name "XWKDD".
I tried to find a similar one in the chainfire thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399 but i couldnt manage.
So basically my question is which kernel do I use if I want to put a miui or resurrection remix or any 4.1 ROM on it?
Can i just put this Dorimanx one on it via Odin? That seems to work with everything?!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1617219
Also the phone is running stock 2.3.3, rooted but it doesnt have custom recovery.
One more thing if I put another another kernel on it, the I mentioned for example, will it still run the stock Gingerbread?
Thank you in advance
I recommend you to upgrade your phone to ICS, then flash custom kernel and ROM.

Well I tried to update it with Kies, but the bloody thing just crashed on me so I'm pretty afraid of that evil program.
Can I upgrade the official ICS with Odin too?
Also if I do it with Odin is it enough if I only put the ROM on it? Does that update the kernel too (same for the kies if i try again with that, that updates the kernel too?)?
Btw i couldnt find a stock kernel with this code that mine has

Siyah won't work on GB. you can upgrade to stock ICS via Odin. Download a 4.0.3 firmware for your device from sammobile.com and install via Odin. Then flash a custom kernel. For the ROMs you mentioned, siyah is preferable simply since dorimanx has a couple of versions. And determining which version will support which ROM might get a little confusing if you're just starting out. Just my opinion, start off wit siyah, then can switch over to dorimanx later when you figure out which versions support which ROMs.
Good luck.
EDIT: yes, just installing the ROM (firmware) is enough. It'll include the stock ICS kernel along with it.

does it matter which regional ICS i download? I mean, the guy i bought it from said its originally unlocked, but at boot UK O2 pops up /im not using O2 tho so it seems to be true, im just sayin .
Not so much. The only difference between firmwares for different regions is the modem. If after rooting you find your signal isn't as good as it was earlier, you can always flash a different modem at a later stage.
