[Q] Youtube refuses to play on 3g but fine on wifi - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

I have the strangest problem and I hope it is not just me. Youtube just flat out refuses to play over sprints 3g network on this phone. At first I thought it was just the youtube app but when I tried it through the browser using flash same thing. Even tried it using the html5 beta but no dice. Is youtube being blocked for rooted users? I am currently on the latest release of meanrom (but have tried other roms)

I'm had this same problem on my og evo. The way I got it to work was by getting my msl, dial ##data#, edit, enter msl code. Advanced, set rtsp and whatever the other server is to 0.0.0.0 and port to 0. Be sure to write down the current values in case it doesn't work.
After that all my streaming media worked. Haven't had to touch this new evo.

I tried that but still no dice... Ill give it another try.. Watch it work this time
AND OF COURSE NOW IT WORKS...figures.... seems like removing those 2 useless proxies did the trick

My wife's og evo never had the problem and mine did. It's funny how the default values work on one phone and not another. Eh, who knows.

H+ signal but no internet access?

I've been trying to search about this but i can't seem to get the answer.
I heard about making new APN's but it doesn't work for me.
All it says is "access to this url is blocked" or something like that, i can't seem to use it unless i use Opera mini.
Btw i had this phone for like a month already.
thanks in advance.
More info? What kernel, android version, ROM?
2.2.2, no custom rom, 2.6.32.9-00007 is there more to the kernal?
I have the same issue once in a while. It's almost like the data is stuck on something. A reboot usually works for me. I'm on mobile so I can't see but are you with bell? Asking as I am.

Good to know I'm not the only one.
I allways blamed my carrier.
I use Signal Refresh, its on the Market. It helps sometimes. I allways end rebooting the phone.
I'm on 4.5.9.1 right now, but I've experienced this issue since 4.1.2.6.
weird i restart the phone and i still can't use the stock browser always gotta go to Opera Mini. Opera Mobile doesn't work for me either this is weird. I am on att btw should i bring it back to a att store?.

Even though your homepage is blocked on your stock browser, can you still navigate to a different website?
Like can you navigate to Google.com, or is that blocked too?...

Today I had this same issue.
No data. I tried refreshing the signal, toggling airplane mode, rebooting...phone would send or download data sometimes, but it never loads a web.
I ended using wifi to write this answer.
I hope this issue get fixed somehow.
Had same issue myself for the first time today. Never had this before. I'm on 4.5.91 beta 3, and I didn't realise at first when I lost all data that my signal bars were telling me something. On stock GB the signal bars are blue when you have data, but they turn white when you do not. I saw 3 white bars and thought I still had signal when in fact I did not. Tried rebooting, got blue bars for a couple of seconds, then white again and no data. I actually had to go outside my work, at which point I picked up a strong signal again, and I have been fine at work since. Very wierd, but it's almost like the radio lost the signal, then could not acquire it again without me being outside where it possibly had line of sight to a tower.
weird you guys only get it sometimes?
Mine has been like this since day one and it's already been a month and a half.
APN Settings.
There's a thread I posted a while back with all the APN settings for AT&T. Try to add these and see if you can't get it working.

By chance did you just start having these problems after installing the leaked version of the updated Market? Whenever I run the market, downloads are very flaky, I get a few force closes, and my connection seems to just drop out entirely, from apps, browsers, etc...
It picks back up eventually if I close the market app whichs eems odd
Just got to work this morning, went to new Market, (leaked version), and as soon as the app came up my 4 blue bars turned white..............no data again! Something with the new Market is definitely messing up data connectivity.
<edit> Rebooted phone, tested data...............working fine on everything. Start Market again, blue bars turn white, no data!
yeah, i went to manage apps and selected uninstall update to market. Rolls it back to the original.
nope checked the APN's still the same should i go back to att with this?

[Fix] Streaming Problems in 3rd Party Music Apps

Not sure if this has been discussed here or not but I am just carrying this over from past experience with the OG Evo when i had problems with streaming music on Tunee music using 3g so if anyone cares here's the fix.
***This only works on Sense Based Roms***
1. Open the dialer app and type ##3282#
2. Choose Edit Mode
3. Enter your MSL # (If you don't know it you can download the MSL reader app in the Play Store - you must be rooted to use this app)
4. Choose Advanced
5. Scroll down to RTSP/HTTP Setting select it
6. Then change HTTP proxy IP to 0.0.0.0 and HTTP proxy port to 0
7. Then exit and reboot
Now you should be able to stream music using 3g on music apps and such better.
This may help you or it may do nothing for you but I have to do this in order to stream music in Tunee music and Im sure some other apps out there.
Some people have said this also "Slightly" increased data speeds but take that with a grain of salt
Note - This will revert back once you flash a new rom
***Although almost impossible Im not responsible if you damage your phone in any way by doing this***
I see the option but when I click on it, nothing happens. the setting doesn't open up for me to make the change. Running "STOCK WITH GOODIES 1.75" rom. Anyone else not able to access the setting?
Thanks for the info however this did not work for Pandora. If I'm 3G it will not load a song. It says loading or buffering 1% then skips to the next song. Pandora works flawlessly on my WiFi.

Everything.
Not taking credit for this find since I used it on my Old Photon but I went ahead and added "persist.ril.uart.flowctrl=10" to the end of my build prop to see if it made a difference... might just be me but my speeds went up around 200-300kb/s
I found out that you have to hit the back button and then select Menu - Commit Changes, for anything to take effect. You cant just - 7. Then exit and reboot

Thanks for the 2nd option.
I am Stock so by "clear cache" I assume you mean the App Data for Pandora. I did that and rebooted then tried it out and still nothing. I have email Pandora about it and this was the response that I got:
Thanks for writing, sorry about the trouble. We're aware that recent Android OS updates have resulted in our app not working on certain devices. We're working with Sprint on this issue.
Thanks so much for your patience in the meantime.

Did this and I think my data speeds got worse. New Spotify radio would barely play. It would play 2 or 3 seconds then skip, 2-3 seconds, skip. The old version of Pandora worked flawlessly though.
Sigh.
I remember when an OTA broke streaming music on the original evo. Took forever for Sprint to officially fix it. Every since that happened I always remove sprint's proxy from my phone. It helps the speeds a little but because Sprint runs there 3G on netzero streaming music doesn't work so hot unless it's 4 in the morning. I use to stream Rhapsody on HQ music over wimax although it worked well the signal would cut in and out 100 times on a 15 commute. So what I do now is use slacker and cache for offline playback. The stupid part about that is that even when going into cached content it still has to connect to download album art sometimes that can take forever to load. I'm just hoping LTE rollout doesn't look like swiss cheese like wimax was.

Cannot play youtube video on Sprint 3G/4G?

I just noticed this strange problem... I can still play youtube video via wifi but once on sprint network, any youtube video won't load , nor start to play!
Anyone else had or fixed this issue? Mine is with rooted stock build 4.5.1A-1_SUN-196, (btw, the phone failed to install the latest update through "update motorola software"), youtube is up to date.
If you are rooted I would recommend restoring to the last good state and make sure that youtube works. I have not heard of any youtube problems with the update. I would assume it is a bad install. Restore... wilpe cache and developed cache and install again.

Poor speeds? Do a speed test. Even on 4g sometimes I would get just 300kbps. 3g was like 80. Check that before you start exploring permissions etc
P.s. I am no longer with sprint because of this. And my wife who still is cannot even use Pandora.

Thanks guys. I kinda fixed it. Had to remove that sprint HTTPPD Proxy. Once done it, video can be played on 3g and 4g.
So it's not youtube version problem - it was fine with wifi but only had the problem with sprint network. Youtube video simply couldn't load up and was stuck in loading. Same result as testing with sprint TV, but some other videos (ie, in Pulse news) were not blocked.
I found a similar post with the HTTPPD Proxy removal that fix it, too:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19056982
I did remove that HTTPPD sometime ago following a post about speed improvement. I didn't notice much difference at that time so I had changed it back to default.
That programing code doesn't work for me, I'm on cm7.

YouTube problems

Ever since I've gotten jb I haven't been able to watch any videos either it be YouTube or just a video online I keep getting error

I Don't Have That Particular Problem, But Occasionally, The Video Just Buffers Excessively, Even When I Have A Full Signal. Even On My Wi-Fi At Home. Because I'll Be Tryna Watch A Video, And It Buffers Nonstop. Furthermore, The Same Video Would Play Flawlessly On My OG Evo, With The Same Wi-Fi Signal. Anyways, I Think It's Just YouTube Not Playing Nice. Idk How To Fix It Tho.

Do you by any chance have your data settings altered?
the RTSV and PD settings. The ones where people tell you to set it to 0.0.0.0 and port to 0?
If so on 3G those gave me problems. Once I set it back to the original settings youtube on 3G worked fine for me..
What network frequency are you currently on?? Also another quick option is to remove it from system and reboot. Then install the YouTube app from the play store and sign in. Or pm me I have the latest that installs as a regular app.

What are the original settings? I"m also on Verizon Prepaid running Jelly Bean at the moment, however, they were working on rooted state, a friend of mine did it to me but after I updated I lost the ability to watch Youtube Videos and after updating to Jelly Bean Pandora just keeps skipping without playing. 3G MMS picture still works as I'm using Go SMS Pro and I remember my friend configured something there so it sends pictures.
I'm guessing I need to root it so I can fully configure settings on the phone. The flash has stayed after updating software though. I thought I would lose my flash after updating software but didn't happen, however I really need Pandora to work. Note: Pandora does work on wi-fi but no 3G, could be the RTSV and PD settings

If your rooted you should try the method I posted above. You can always add it back to system. Remember to make a backup of the system app before removing it. The reason I suggested this as it worked for me when I had this issue in the past. Also are you running any ad blocking software apps??

Slow mobile data with 4.2.2

If anyone can help I would appreciate it sooooo much. Ever since I went to 4.2.2 my mobile data speeds have gone to **** when I'm using the browser. I get a 10-15 second delay in loading a web page. When I use my WiFi it seems to be fine. I have no idea how to troubleshoot this. It's not Rom specific. I've attached screen shots of a speed test which is perfect and a shot of the browser trying to load a page.
This makes no sense to me someone please help

Edit...this seemed to help for a bit then went back to being slow.

I've had this issue for about two months. ROM doesn't seem to matter as I've tried stock, super stock, the old Viper, NOS GPE, and Viper Sense 5 along with most of the kernels out there. I've RUU-ed probably 8 times with no luck.
The "Adobe Flash" fix didn't work for me, but I do use Titanium Backup. Maybe the problem is there somewhere?

The adobe flash fix didn't work for me, either. I found a fix in another sub-forum for a different phone. It recommended installing adfree and then selecting the "revert" option in the app. That fixed the problem for me completely. Hope that helps anyone else with this problem.

Welp, I downloaded it, but the app seems stuck. After running it, I get the boot normally / TCP dialogue, but nothing happens after that. Just stuck on the loading screen with the spinning circle.
I just reinstalled it and tried it again. I am now getting the same error as you. Might be a server-side problem. Might want to try again tomorrow?

Could you post a link to the thread you were talking about where this solution came up? I'd like to read through it. Thanks!
I am also having this problem, ViperDNA, 4.1.1. WiFi is fine, but mobile data is unusable. If I toggle mobile data off then back on, it works ok for a bit, then goes back to ****. Just recently started happening. I also have a similar issue with my G2.
I couldn't find it again, it was really hard to find the first time. But I just tried it again and the app is working. Just install it, tell it to boot normally, give it root permission, tell it to skip after it does its host file check, then press the revert button. When that is done, uninstall adfree and reboot.
That should do it.

Got it working, but it didn't seem to fix the problem. I'm still having the exact same issue. Getting frustrated with this since RUU is supposed to be the miracle fixer, yet that and a bunch of other attempts with solutions like the ones in this thread have done nothing. Outside of this thread, I can't find anyone else talking about this problem.

I'm on the most current Verizon radio with Verizon service. Most current OTA hboot. Moonshine s-off. Recently RUU-ed.
I use Dolphin and Opera Mini. Strangely, Opera Mini doesn't have this issue, but Dolphin does. However, browsers aren't the only problem. I have the same thing happen with nearly every data-using app. Twitter, Instagram, A Online Radio, TuneIn Radio, as well as Dolphin for sure seem to have this issue. Opera is okay, and Google Play Store and Facebook seem to be mostly unaffected.
It's unexplainable. Everything works instantly and fine on WiFi, but 4G, 3G, and 1X all have this 10-20 second delay before they start actually connecting. After this lag, they all download quite well. It's just the initial connection that has a problem. And again, I've searched everywhere and haven't read anyone experiencing this.

Hmmm, not sure what's going on. Maybe you need a new SIM card? Maybe try re seating the SIM? You can also turn off the radio in the hidden phone settings menu and then turn it back on. From the dialer type: *#*#4636#*#*

You don't need to keep adfree installed, just use it to reset the host file or something. Maybe someone who knows the actual mechanism will chime in and explain why it helps.
