Not sure if it's part of smart stay, but there is an option to make the screen turn off during a call if it thinks the phone is at your ear, then turn on again when you are looking at it. If I can remember where the option is (if not smart stay) I will post the process to turn it off.

Hmm, haven't used a headset with the S3. I will dig my jabra out in a bit and see if I can replicate the problem.

It just sounds like the proximity sensor that turns screen off when it detects phone up to ear and don't think there's anyway to turn it off.

and with Bluetooth, no ear so the sensor can't be the problem

It happens with bluetooth headset but also with the wired headset.I least I know that is probably a software related issue

Probably didn't matter, but found where the option for auto screen off during calls Is.
In phone app, menu, call settings, auto screen off.
If that is part of the problem.

Microphone problem during screen on

Every time that I use the phone during a call and the screen turns on, the person I am talking to can't hear me and they hear weird noises. When I use the speaker I don't have any kind of problem. The only tme that this happens is when the screen turns on during a call.
This is very frustrating. Need help.
I have tried different Roms and modems configurations.

Nobody here having this problem? I have tried many roms. Batista, cognition, litening cyanogenmod and many basebands but same problem. Is there any configuration I can access from a service menu?

i am afraid its a not problem in ROM.
While you watching if the screen is on/off i think you aint speaking directly to the micro. so that can produce the voice failure..
the sensor is proximity tht is disabling/enabling the screen on during the calls - but i am sure it has nothing to do with sound quality. While you start making call mate try this - call - press settings button - the one on the left corner(down) and switch off noice reduction - this option appear only during the call - not while dailing or before. give it a try.
Yeah. What he said. And focus on using the microphone and checking lights because you could be out of mic's range.

[Q] Wrong mic used or bad mic?

I just traded up to the rez from my dinc that I held onto all this time. So far I am loving the rez but have run into a few issues.
I use an app called voxer all the time on the dinc. On the rez I am getting complaints that my voice is muffled and playing back audio I can tell it is severely muffled. From my troubleshooting I am thinking that the app is using the noise cancelling mic for main recordings instead of the main mic because when the in call volume is reduced, the recorded mic volume is reduced as well.
If this isn't the issue then I might just have a bad mic but using other apps such as skype, in calls, and google voice all work normally and sound recordings are normal volume.
Anyone use voxer? or willing to try it out and see if they get the same problem I mentioned?
Yes there would appear to be a problem with the app. Using the mic and even a BT headset doesn't seem to work properly. I'm not convinced that it is using the BT mic when I tried it though.
I posted a support issue on their site.
I have not used this app in the past.
also make sure that you have disabled the privacy mode under calls. Its on by default. Helps with muffled voice.
i use voxer too, and i just talk right into the bottom of the phone, and it works fine..

what does voice privacy do, btw?
I tried the voice privacy setting disabled...no difference.
Voxer works, just not loud enough to be usable.
Jay, is your voice volume the same as it would be for skype, google voice, voice recordings? etc?
I think it is.. it sounds it.. i literally talk right into the bottom of the phone tho...
anyone else noticed it always turns the ir sensor on???

What ir sensor?
above the verizon v, under the ear piece.. make a call.. look closely there's a red light on.. that ir sensor determines when to shut off the a teen when your face is near it. It activates with voxer.

Oh you mean the proximity sensor (happens to be done with IR).
That is turned on by the API for any app that is used for calling where you could put your face up to the screen. The proximity sensor senses that you face is there and blanks the screen to prevent your face from activating buttons.
When you end the call, the sensor turns off. Voxer appears to have it on all the time which is kind of strange as i suspect most don't use it close to their face and you have to push the button to talk which is not likely to be close to your face either.
Most likely a bug, and I suspect it does use more power to have it turned on.
One thing I don't like about Voxer and Skype and some of the others is that I many times simply want them off. They don't seem to provide a way of doing that (that I've seen). I rarely use Skype as a result, I freeze it and unfreeze it in the rare cases I actually need to use it.
yep, you're very right. now, with voxer, i literally have to put my mouth next to the bottom mic to be nice and loud...so if that's the bug you're all talkin about,t hen yeah i've got it too.
and heytell has the proximity sensor bug as well..it always stays on.

External Speaker Sounds Crash My Omate TS

So I originally posted that I had wifi issues. I wanted to follow up with a proper posting (title and info).
I originally thought it was the wireless connectivity. Then I was able to make the wifi work with the stock keyboard and thought the issue was Fleksy. With a bit more messing with the watch I had hangouts crash the device when the first message came in. Thought maybe it was the app that caused the issue. Then my workout app (Strava) announced a marker and the watch crashed. I then suspected the sound was the issue and tested playing Pandora. The device once again shut off.
Here are the behaviors and symptoms.
The device would start up fine and run fine until...
Any system sound (Keyboard press, music, text to speech)
Once the sound is hear a second latter a small pop of the speaker is heard
Immediately the watch screen woudl freeze and than just a second later the watch will power completely off.
Fixes: None long term so far. Will have to return under warranty.
Short term fix: Run the device in vibrate mode or silent mode and turn off all app specific sounds.
I was also able to play music over bluetooth and hear work out app announcement sounds.
Sounds like a short or EM interference.

I was guessing short as well.

Google voice search when Aux plugged in

I'm getting this weird thing happening. I'm getting a Google voice search prompt when my Aux plugged in. Always used the same aux cable with other android phones and have never experienced this. I already have poweramp set to automatically play music when the aux is connected. But before my music will play I have to listen to Google say "if you just said something I didn't hear what it was". So annoying

Seems to happen to me as well from time to time

Happens to me too on occasions. Thought it was caused by static when I plug in.
Bump

Nuther your not alone.
I have it happen on occasion.
When I googled this exact thing, it appears it has happened on other phones too.
Kind of funny when I plug in at night (I listen to music on phone through external speakers) I sometimes hear her say... "I''m sorry I didn't catch that."
Ditto. If you said something I didnt catch it..
No one has any idea to resolve it? It's weird. Only seen this on this phone

I found that this is due to bad connection of your earphone, you can try to slightly pull your earphone a bit out the socket and you will get the google search pops up.
I've been getting the same problem. Very annoying. I've been searching the settings on this phone for a fix. My cable is not bad but obviously I see here from the other responses that it is an aux cable issue.
Is there any way to just disable the Google voice thing entirely? I never use it
Did y'all try the smart setting feature in settings you may have the "turn this app on when earphones are plugged in"
This was happening to me too but I turned if off in smart settings along with other things that turn in via Bluetooth connection.
Hope this helps

Media audio problem

Hey. Fell a sleep listening to a podcast via Bluetooth and when I woke up my media audio wouldn't work.
I noticed this unknown headset icon even though no device was connected.
It's gone now and I have my sound back but I haven't done anything. What's going on?
