Who need a Nexus 7 when you have a note - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Hi everyone,
I must say, I am very interested in getting the Nexus 7. However, I already own a GNote that I love.
Anyone having both? What more can the Nexus 7 do than our beloved tablet?
Any feedback is appreciated.

A buddy of mine got one. If you like to game, it's pretty sweet. The Tegra3 chip is great.
Most of the gaming I do is on emulators, which the Note is very good at. So I don't need one.

yea , the note is holding me over for now as the tab never gets used here. Can't wait to see whatever the note 2 is because that will be the replacement for me overall on the tablet and phone side.

I have both. The nexus 7 was kind of an impulse by since there was only one left in my area. I have an iPad 2 and it's usage has dropped considerably since I got the Note. I figured a nexus 7 may be the ticket, especially since I'll just easily sell the iPad and recoup the cost.
So far it's been good. I love my Note but using it around the house leaves the battery in trouble whenever I go out. I'm a bit of a rom enthusiast as well so I find myself often turning to my Nexus 7 to kill time while the note is booting. Stock Jellybean is awesome and as much as I've flashed things on my note I've resisted even rooting the Nexus.
It really depends on your Galaxy Note usage, or in my case overusage. I was underwhelmed with the Nexus in my first half hour, it's more similar to the Note than the iPad is to an iPhone but I've turning to it again and again this last week. (I'm on summer leave sitting on my ass watching the Olympics so I've had plenty of playtime).

I have a le pan tab that is only used once every couple of weeks, i really have no need for it anymore with this phone

I have both. With only 2 more inches the Nexus 7 has quite a bit bigger screen. I watch movies and do email on the N7 and use the Note for Facebook and phone calls and the Wifi tethering.

Got my nex 7 and its great, for the price point is a fantastic device, I use them both oftenly and it eases battery life on my note
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium

I have been contemplating the same.
But I fear I will not use the tab because of the note.

I own both and I am very happy with it. It is a great device and its really cheap too. Since its a Nexus device it has great development and it gains more every day. Using it has eased my Notes battery usage.

After flashing CM10 onto my note I honestly don't know that I have any complaints anymore besides battery life! Most of the benefits of the N7 are software IMO (and that wonderful-sounding NFC performance).

I had no intent on purchasing the Note, was going to wait for the Galaxy 3 at the time or possibly one of the new Xperia devices. A few days before i bought the note I decided to sell my tablet as i purchased the lg g-slate before looking on xda. Soon found out there was quite literally no developmentnt going on for it. There isn't even a forum on xda (or there wasent at the time) so my plan was to buy a new tablet and a new phone. Figured the note might, just might fill the void for both devices and honestly after owning the note for 4 months I have no need for a tablet. This phone is a beast, no regret what so ever on my decision to go with this device. I rarely even sit down at my pc's anymore, everything is done through my note.
Love this thing, its pretty much attached to my hand lol.

I actually had no intention of getting a note either. I had a log nitro for the screen until they forced a mandatory update and it killed my internet. I couldn't use data at all even at the beginning of the month. Bars were grey and only had 2 no matter where I was. Called att and after 4 hours of threatening and schooling them they finally transfered me to someone who could tell me yes or not cause I had just upgraded two month prior. I simply asked for an HTC one or something and att offered me a galaxy note my color choice along with an otter box. Received it 3 days later for free and haven't been happier.

I have the Nexus 7, Note, and new iPad. I really like them all and consider them to have different use cases.
Reading PDFs is vastly superior on the iPad (GoodReader probably plays as big of a role as the screen real estate). Kindle and EPUB books can be about as good on the other devices, and they are lighter and better suited for 1-armed operation.
Watching a video or browsing is great on the N7 as well, and you will definitely notice the screen size difference. It seems negligible (5.3" to 7), but I definitely appreciate it, especially since I've been completely used to the Note's size for a long time.
The Nexus 7's also relatively cheap but has great build quality and is fast, and it comes stock with AOSP (or at least no terrible overlay) and no bloatware.

Week Until Release

Well 7 days as of Thanksgiving until this phone hits VZW customers pockets. I am really starting to get excited. Seems like its been such a long wait. This is going to be my phone for years to come. I am going to be investing alot into this phone. What are your thoughts on the Galaxy Note II right now?

I just hope I don't fail one of my lab finals next Thur
Seriously, I can't wait. All these people saying they are getting 12hrs of heavy usage makes me ecstatic. I have been wondering if there is a use case for the media dock for me personally. I already have a pretty nice desktop. I think for my Dad would be perfect. His laptop needs to be replaced and he needs something with a big screen. Maybe just grab a generic touchscreen monitor and the media dock for him.

"This is going to be my phone for years to come" made me lol...I give it 6mo before the s4 or something else drops and you will be moving on. Although its getting to a point where upgrading is not a huge improvement anymore. I really dont think its going to have a huge WOW factor over the S3, but I must admit I still want one lol...mainly because I initally wanted the note but it never made it to VZW so I settled for the S3.
I'm excited too, but can't upgrade for another month. Doubt I'll be satisfied for "years" though. Android has come a long way since I bought my thunderbolt and I'm sure I'll feel that again in two years.
You never know maybe Q4 next year we'll have octocore phones lol
Maybe we should get some sort of count down timer. I've been waiting since the original Note for Verizon to get in the game.
Props to the person that puts the countdown on Verizon's homepage.

I'll be keeping my N2 until the next comparable device comes out on Verizon. Luckily I'm able to get a subsidized phone every year.

Until I get the box and see the phone, I do not want to be disappointed if Verizon delays shipment.
I hope the DNA fails miserably so Verizon feels our pain. I think that they will realize their error when they get mobbed by all of us next week. I have been waiting for a note on Verizon forever. Just a heads up, if you go to wirefly, it is 280.00

I'm getting 36+ hours with 7 hours screen on time on LTE. I haven't had to turn off LTE once. The Note 2 blows away the GS3 in every way. TW on JB seems like an improvement over the stock N7 experience.

Verizon delayed it for so long it almost feels obsolete already with new phones like Nexus 4 out and new ones probably coming out around Christmas time. On top of that, they crapped on the home button.

If you are going pick a phone that makes the Note 2 feel almost obsolete, I wouldn't go with the Nexus 4 (Android iPhone 5 without LTE?).
I can't wait to retire my Thunderbolt. Done with all the problems with this phone. Oh, and the crazy delayed updates.
I think until something else of a similar size comes out (Note 3?) This phone will keep me plenty happy.
It certainly has the hardware to run the Android OS for a long time to come.
Note 3 should be expected in about a year.

Not worried until the Note 3 comes out or until HTC and Motorola make a phablet with a S-Pen like device. The S4 could be released tomorrow and I would still pick the Note 2 unless Samsung start putting S-Pens in all devices.
I think i'll be set till the note 3 comes out or an equivalent device boasting a larger screen size. I would like to see a 6 inch phone since I don't have infant hands like the rest of you.

This. After playing with the Note II for an extended period of time at Best Buy today, I truly believe it's a really different experience from regular smartphones, especially after using the S-Pen. That hover feature on the S-Pen is not only incredibly cool, but also super useful (for previews, information pop-ups, etc). And I can see myself taking notes with S-Note and using its Knowledge Search feature often.
Oh, and I was with my brother and his gf as I was showing this phone off to them, and I think I converted her from being an iPhone fanboy to an Android fanboy by the end of my Note II demonstration. :highfive:
I was at the mall today for my third look at the Note II. The Sprint and ATT stores both have them out. I have one on preorder from Verizon, but can't get over the size. Tried it in my pocket (again!) and fooled around with the S-pen apps and really do like this phone a lot. I've decided I want a very thin cover that will give me a better grip when I have it in one hand, and a stylus that is larger that I can keep in my shirt pocket. I was going back and forth with the NoteII, DNA, or wait until summer, but the s-pen is a great feature that is unique to the Note's.

Haha same. My dad got the iPhone 5 already, and I was demonstrating everything the s pen can do, and I saw the look of regret on his face. It's an amazing device, but the hardest decision for me was which color to get

Consolidating Devices: From a Galaxy Nexus and a Nexus 7 to a Galaxy Note II

Just picked up my Note II yesterday after a long debate between it and the DNA. Decided to go with the Note II cause I already feel like my Nexus 7 16GB was a mistake. Bought the Nexus 7 in August, but I could barely fit anything on it and ended up using my Galaxy Nexus more still for the past months. Used my Nexus 7 at school often for eBooks, but never really felt like taking it anywhere else.
The Nexus 7 was smaller than my iPad 2 that I sold earlier this year, but still felt like a pain to carry and the storage limit and lack of data connectivity was more of a pain than I thought. I really wanted a 1080P screen in my next phone, but depending on the viewing distance it wouldn't matter anyway... also don't really care for Sense or non removable batteries or SD cards, so decided to pass on the DNA and get the Note II.
Had the Galaxy Nexus 32GB since this time last year, and said I didn't need a new phone this year, but figured I'd give the Note II a try after hearing rave reviews since I could return it if I didn't like it. So far everything has been good. Got a 32GB SD card to put in it, and I copied everything from the Nexus to the card so I could have all my stuff.
On the Galaxy Nexus, no matter what I did, the screen used most of the battery life. I could barely get 2 hours screen on time out of the Nexus with exteneded battery and with my apps installed. Installed mostly the same apps on stock Galaxy Note, and so far I have 2 hours screen on time with 64% left while tethering and playing music on the phone's speaker... just getting insane battery life compared to the Nexus to the point where I'm shocked at how good it is.
The phone definitely feels faster than the Galaxy Nexus even with all the bloatware still installed, so I think I'm gonna keep it especially since the bootloader will be easily unlocked soon. I can't wait to see some TouchWIZ ROM's or more AOSP-like stuff like Paranoid Android to take advantage of the huge screen by modifying the DPI.
My hands are small, so using it one-handed is harder then the Galaxy Nexus, but it's not completely impossible... just taking some time getting used to. The phone's build quality is amazing even though it is plastic also. The plastic looks nice in grey, and it doesn't feel as slippery as the Galaxy Nexus even though it looks like it would be. Makes it easier to hold the phone than I thought it would... Some people say the plastic seems cheap, but to me it reminds me of Oakley sunglass plastic... feels very light and durable... definitely not the same as cheap $10 sunglasses. I haven't even had the phone for 24 hours, but I'm falling in love already.
I will probably keep it and keep my Galaxy Nexus as a backup since I'm new to Verizon and have no spare phone. I will probably sell my Nexus 7 tho since the Note II's resolution, battery life, and screen size are comparable with the bonus of 4G LTE and phone calls. The screen looks more crisp than the Nexus 7, the colors are better, and it fits in my pocket so it will never get left at home.
Anyone else coming from the Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 7, or both, and in awe of the note?
How is the signal strength on the Note II? I have a GNexus right now and swore I would never buy another Samsung due to the poor data connections I have experienced with the GNexus.
The Note II does look like a great device. Just need to make sure I can get mobile data when I am away from WiFi.

signal strength is very good with the note 2.. I have 4 out of 5 bars in my room(hardest place for me to get a connection)... With my Tbolt and rezound they averaged 2 bars.
I came from a galaxy nexus. I'm not looking back. This phone will be a lot of fun now that we are unlocked.

I'm coming from much the same situation and am trying to decide if I should keep my 7. I love getting updates on time so I will probably sell my gnex and keep the 7. But I do find myself on the couch picking up my note and not the 7. Hmmm...

I'm keeping my 7. Once the newness wears off I'm sure I'll want that slightly larger screen for reading and such at home. I won't be lugging the 7 around while out anymore though. No need because the Note 2 is the perfect hybrid.
I sold my Nexus 7 and my Galaxy Nexus. I don't miss either one. I might be in the market for a Galaxy tab 10.1 though. 7 inch screens seem pointless to me now. I should also note, that I used my Nexus 7 primarily for movies and games, which I find that the note 2 is better at doing both.

I played with one at the verizon store and it and my rezound were sitting @ -90dbm. Adrenalyne states that signal is better than the galaxy nexus.
I really wanted a tablet for school but I have no money. My dad gave me his old acer a500. It works ok for my meads but not as well as I had hoped so I actually ended out using my s3 more often. Now with the note I get double the functionality. Much better in my case.

This is nearly me too. Selling the 7 paid a contract fee for the Note and I just like it a lot more. The 7 is a great device, but if I'm not using my Note I want more real estate. For me that's an iPad 3 as larger android tablets have never blown me away. The nexus 10 would probably make a decent sidekick.
Same here still have the other two though (nexus7 galaxy nexus). Keeping them as backups but haven't used them since I got my Note 2.

I had the nexus which is what my wife is using now. But I never had data issues on it. Debating between a tab or note 10.1....or an Asus transformer
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda app-developers app
At my horrible signal apartment (we really need a new tower out here), the galaxy nexus hangs around -120 dbm while the Note 2 is about 104 dbm. Also I can actually walk away from windows on the phone without dropping calls again, which would happen with the nexus. We're going to call that a great improvement!
I never noticed abnormally bad signal on my Nexus, but that is probably because I was coming for a carrier that has less reception where I live. It seems like the Note II does get better reception tho, and that could definitely play into the the better battery life I am experiencing.
I'm pretty sure at this point I'm going to sell the Nexus 7 and just use the note as my primary. They both have almost the same resolution (1280x720 vs 800), but the Note II has better colors, faster processor, more ram, and more memory. Note II also has better cameras, more features, and can fit in my pocket.
I used to only like stock Android... didn't like TouchWIZ on my original Galaxy S which drove me to learn how to install ROMs, but now I feel like TouchWIZ is way better and actually brings a lot to the table. My previous two phones were the Nexus S and Galaxy S, so I will miss AOSP a little bit, but not much since there are a lot of useful features for power users that don't slow down the phone now.
Sony vaio duo 11 is a nice hybrid... I love my note2 but it can't replace a computer or tablet with clients. I haven't done much with it since it's mainly for work but it has great performance so far for a decent price
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I don't have a Nexus 7 but I have a TF700T. I have not pulled out my tablet since I got my Note II. Not sure if that is a bad or good thing. I can't sell it because it was a Father's Day gift and the wife would be upset.
Just sold my 7 and nexus phone. Love the note 2. Best phone i have ever had.

[Q] Nexus 7 AND Nexus 10 OR Note 10.1

Hello Android forums,
I am looking for a tablet to replace my aging Prestigio tablet, and there are 2 options that I have narrowed it down to; they are the Nexus 10 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1.
I start Sixth Form in September and so the Note 10.1 would be useful for me to jot down quick notes and ideas, but is it worth paying £499 when the only benefit is the S-Pen. The price difference between the Note 10.1 and Nexus 10 is approximately £180 which means that I would buy a 16GB Nexus 7 with the money and take that to school with me. So is it worth paying £180 more for tainted Android but the S Pen or should I get a Nexus 10 and Nexus 7 with approximately £20 left over to purchase student stuff?
Many Thanks

If you're willing to spend that much money go for the Note, it's note-taking abilities are undefeated. It's so satisying to use.
Do not buy two devices, you'll regret it because it's overkill. I would suggest a Nexus 7 if you're going to take it with you to college. It's ultra portable and stock Android is faster and more fluid. There is quite the selection of note-taking apps, so check the Play Store for one that fits your needs and go for the Nexus 7. If not, go for the Note. They're both a good choice.

Hi Robin2,
Thanks for the reply!
That was my initial instinct, that note taking would be easier with the note because after using my friends Note 2 and S Pen, I loved it and loved how easy it is to use. My brother has a N7 and as far as I know, he loves it, but are you saying that there is no reason to get a Nexus 10? Because if I were to get an N10, I would not get a new laptop and just use a tablet for my web browsing needs and take the N7 to college with me.
Thanks

It's a great device really, but IMO it's just not worth getting both a Nexus 7 & 10. You will end up using one of them most of the time. The N7 is comfortable to use for a really long time, whereas the N10 gets quite heavy after using it for a while. So I can imagine you would want to pick up the N7 more often, because it's just so portable. But really, the screen and performance are great on the N10.. better than the N7. So if you're OK with having both, but not using one of them that often - go and get yourself a N7 and N10.

Ah, I thought there was some major technical oversight with the N10 that rendered it useless (apart from the screen that has such a high pixel density that it's almost impossible to hit a small button) I think that I would prefer Nexus devices because my last altercation with Android was ruined by 2 things - the lack of updates and the bloatware - not an issue with a nexus!
Yes software is often more important than hardware. I believe Android 5.0 is confirmed for the Note, but it could take a while for Samsung to actually release it.

But saying that, Jelly Bean 4.1 was confirmed for my Ace Plus, and we are still waiting. It was the lengthy wait and wondering if we were going to get updates teamed with the fact that we never did and also all of the bloatware that made me purchase a Nokia Lumia 800 because I knew I would prefer WP7.5 to Gingerbread instantly
I think I will go for the N7 and 10, and I am certain that when my contract expires in May, I will get whatever nexus phone is available, just to give droid another try and also to complete my nexus set
Thanks for your help, Robin2

Personnally I would not get 2 devices, one would just be lying around somewhere, collecting dust.

Not with me, I would have my N7 in my bag and use that while I was at college and then have my N10 for when I am at home, that way, both devices get used!

[Q] To those who have moved onto the Note 2

Hey all,
Since it seems there are a decent amount of users who have moved onto the Note 2 as their next device from the Rezound I had a few questions as I am looking to obtain one as well.
First, how do the Radios in the Note 2 compare to the Rezound? I'm currently on a AOSP 4.2.2 based ROM so I'm able to see a more accurate representation of reception compared to Sense and Touchwiz which both over exaggerate signal strength.
Second, I have small hands (I'm 5'4) and I was wondering what your thoughts were on the size differences and how long it took you to get used to the Note 2. I have primarily been able to use the Rezound with one hand but I realize that probably won't be the case with the Note 2.
Third, how spoiled did you feel you were by the Rezound's screen or is the Note 2 up to the task?
Anything else to take note of?
Note: I did use the search feature because I felt like there was a somewhat recent thread about this but I came up empty.
Thanks,
Chris
Radios seem about the same to me. Wifi may be a bit better. As for the size, I was worried it was going to be too big for me, but, as it's said occasionally on the N2 forums, it gets small fast. I really couldn't imagine going to a smaller device now, and it has somewhat quelled my lust for a tablet as well.
As for the screen...I'm an AMOLED hater. The screen on the Note does look good, is easy on power, and there is plenty of resolution (it's full 16:9 720p), but it's severely oversaturated to my eyes. The colors are unnaturally bright to the point that they don't really look like the colors they're supposed to. Most people like that about it...I don't. Luckily, you can change the display mode through the settings, and you can also install a kernel with display tuning capabilities, so if you don't like that aspect, you can control it. The other aspect of AMOLED that I don't like is that OLED technologies in general have questionable longevity, and AMOLED is not immune. Unlike LCD, OLED pixel slowly dim with use. That can lead to a burn-in type effect. Give me SLCD over AMOLED any day.
I can't say anything bad about any aspect of the phone other than the screen, and even then, the screen isn't bad per se, it just has some caveats that are worth knowing about going in.
Good to know that it has quenched your interest in a tablet, I'm now afraid that my Nexus 7 will get even less use than it has been getting recently. I will definitely check out the screen, I read Anandtech's review of the Note 2 on my commute home and will probably take another look later too.

small girls does not seem to have no problem using note 2 so it should be ok for you.
nexus 7 and note 2 is close in size. maybe you won't feel the need to carry a 7 inch tablet? you should have bought 10 inch tablet.
I honestly bought the Nexus 7 because I didn't think I'd get a phone that was that much larger than the Rezound. I guess I should have thought more about it, I'm sure I'll find more of a use for it though. I use the Nexus as my primary entertainment device when I get back from work and now that I got like 300 free comics from Marvel last week I'll be using it even more.

thats ok, I kinda want a nexus 7 too
So I got a Note 2 from Swappa and it is awesome. Definitely not too big for my hands.

I have large hands and the note 2 is perfect for me. I will never own a small phone. Also my nexus 7 is mostly neglected as it is not needed. The note 2 for the win!

One more thing. The battery life is amazing. Coming from the rezound, it is amazing. 14 hours usage, with 6 hours screen time with 20% left at the end of the day.

So I've noticed that the battery life is kind of amazing on the Note 2. After switching from GB firmware on the Rezound I just never have been able to accept the ICS firmware battery life on the Rezound on Sense 4 and AOSP.

Where has all the i717 owners gone??

Okay I know our phone is getting old now and most probably upgraded to a S4 or HTC one by now, but I really miss the excitement 6 months ago when 4.2 android came to our phone. There was so much excitement and so many posts every minute.
Things have slowed down a lot here except in the android development forum, but it's understandable.
For me personally, i717 was my first android phone as I've only been a iPhone owner previously. i717 got me into Android, and despite some hardware and software setbacks, it has introduced me a whole new world of smart phones. I know what is bad and good about touchwiz. I know what kernels and roms are. And I've got great experience and patience with random reboots.
I will be with i717 for another year, and I honestly don't mind. It'll give me something to look forward to. That's not necessary a bad thing in life.
With that said, I salute the i717 big old Note.

I, too, came to the i717 straight from years of using iPhones. Although I did have a Nexus 7 and various android tablets, I'd only flashed the occasional ROM -- I find tablets completely worthless, so I never used them.
With the 5200mah battery, I honestly don't plan on upgrading anytime soon. The S4 looks nice, and I'm sure note 3 will be awesome, but running cm9, I'll take the pepsi challenge against any 2013 phone in terms of responsiveness. They may hit amazing numbers on antutu, but I just want to hit a button and immediately have the action happen, and that doesn't take an 8000.

To this day I still don't have a tablet. I was going to get one this Xmas but I actually refused to when I saw how the Note could replace my tablet needs. I love putting my Note side by side next to my wife's iPhone 5 using the same app, and can see 2x as lines with bigger font than hers. That itself is a feature of a our phone that an iPhone can never replace.
I haven't tried the 5200 battery but maybe I will someday. Swapping batteries can get cumbersome as well as charging 2x batteries at the same time.

@happy ~ when you arrived on the scene, the phone was at least a year and a half old. That's old in tech terms. So its understandable that users have moved on, as the majority of members here are always trying the latest and greatest thing, and a two year old phone isn't that.
But I agree with you, this is a great phone, and I for one can't see anything better in the "latest and greatest" phones out there.
Still on my Note, but we'll see what the Note 3 looks like. If it isn't the rumored 6+ inches I'll be interested.
Good to see there are others out there that share my same feelings on this phone. I've learned phones aren't about the best features, but how one relates to it. For me, i717 really did at a personal level. I just couldn't relate to a iPhone despite it having good stability. It just wasn't "me". It was Apple which I love as a company, but iPhone felt like a complete stranger despite being friends for so many years. Somehow, the Note and I just clicked.

I know what ya mean. I actually got this phone when it first came out. It was my first Android phone too after a long list of iphones. Ive gone through several different devices since then to include the GN II. I even cooked a ROM for it under my old screenname cjsspape. I found myself coming back to this device as a solid interim device till the GN III comes out. I tried the HTC One which is great but i love the big screen this line offers. This will always be my go-to back up device!

I was thinking of getting a new iPhone every 20-24 months and sell it for $400+ profit to cover my data costs. I can seriously use this phone for the next 10 years. OK, that's stretching a bit...but my point is this phone will last well over time. It has a place in my history. Actually we are holding the first phablet ever. Watch, it will be on display at MOMA in 50 years.

I love the way everyone's heads still turn when I pull out my note. Because the screen is so big people can clearly see how cool it is running the many custom roms.

+1. My worker has a Note 2 and was like whoa, what's that huge phone you got. I'm like Note 1..he's like No way, how can the screen possibly be bigger than Note 2. Well, it is. Its wider and more noticeable. No one notices a taller screen easily (i.e. iPhone 4S vs iPhone 5)

One quick correction, the current official version of Android on the Note 1 is 4.1.2, not 4.2 (or any variant of it).
Second, the person using CM9, you might consider upgrading to CM10, its now officially out of beta and really rock solid with alot of optimizations over version 9.
And now, my main point.
There is ONE reason Im considering an upgrade, ram. A second might possibly be screen quality.
This is an area where Samsung screwed up in my opinion.
With Android only continuing to grow in size, its going to require more and more ram to run effectively. 4.2.2 on my Nexus 7, completely stock with no apps installed sits in 500ish Mb of ram.
Yea, I know Android has memory management capabilities, but just like a PC, if you are constantly having to swap between inactive and active modes for different apps running in the background, this can create noticeable lag spikes as Android archives active apps into inactive status.
My second issue is the screen, Im not normally picky about the screen, most of the BS that people complain about on screens, I cant even see.
BUT, the screen on the Note specifically has, for lack of a better word, burn-in type issues. When I reboot my phone, it is VERY visible, with the AT&T logo screen (the all white with the AT&T logo in the middle), where I can actually see the entire screen is NOT a solid white, there are areas where it looks like some sort of other image is burned into the display.
This second issue however is not as big of a deal as I can only see this when I am looking at an all white (or nearly all white) background).
With regard to the 5200 Mah battery, Im using the Mugen extended battery (have no idea what the rated Mah is and I dont feel like looking).
Because Im still in the habit of charging my phone every day, I have not ever run the battery dry, the lowest Ive gotten it was 20% when I decided to do a little road trip from San Antonio to Houston and left the display on the entire trip getting there and coming back.
What I will say is, the major negative is that the phone wont fit in any 'things' that the phone would typically go into. For example, I have a car mount, my Note wont exactly fit in the car mount, I had to make a few adjustments to get it to work. Cases also make the extended batteries not an option.
Other than that however, the extended battery is completely fine, I mean really, what exactly are you putting behind your phone anyway?
I'm still rocking the I717 with a 5200mah batt but hope to get the upgrade if note 3 comes out better be water resistant lol:beer:

I use the ravpower 2750 I've had better results with it then 5200. And cm9 is stable no reboots... I run a 4.2 from as well as a back up ..I switch between the 2 whenever one gets old to me.
••••changes with every flash••••
I'm still on my i717 and love it more with CM10.1 than I ever did before. It's still going strong in pocket tablet mode (200dpi) and I've pretty much stopped using my other devices for over a year now. I'm looking forward to the Note 3, a 1080p screen would be a welcome upgrade and if I get a new phone then I can do more hacking on the i717 like running Ubuntu or Debian on it.

Calc....do u get reboots and does it bother u? I get reboots every now and then on 10.1 and that's the only thing I can't stand with our phone...I could live or deal with everything else.

I got my Note on Feb 19 2012 at AT&T on launch day, I really did enjoy it. Sadly enough, the HTC One pulled me in with it's design and fluidity. I have passed my Note down to my brother and now somewhat regret it because I do miss having the large screen and s-pen.

I changed over to the s4 a few months ago and lent my note to a friend. Sure the s4 spec wise is better, but nothing will compare to my note. Also I can't stand the stupid front button on the s4.... Whoever thought that it looked good should be shot!!! I miss the clean and uninterrupted look of the note, so nice. I still get to cradle my note from time to time and knowing I still own it relives me.
