[Q] Evo 3D bootloop? - HTC EVO 3D

Hey, i just installed the newest firmware and installed the stock rom and everything. Then i tried to install the deviltoast rom, it booted past the htc screen then once it got to the rom's boot logo, it played it for like a couple seconds then shut down and kept rebooting itself. I tried flashing multiple roms, and the same thing happens each time?? Anyone have any suggestions on how i can fix this?

The newest hboot is not compatible with devil toast or VM leak ROMs, or GB.
Option 1: If you are s-off (or get s-off), you can downgrade your hboot in bootloader to flash those.
Option 2: Flash a ROM based off the new ota. I suggest MeanROM.

Evo 3D HBOOT 1.5 lastest Spring Firmware never flashed VM firmware
Coming from MeanROM 4.3 GB Base, going to MeanROM ICS 1.9. I wiped data/cache/dalvik, ran modified superwipe, flashed ext4 recovery w/ smartflash on, then flashed the rom. Did everything I do on my other evo 3d but it kept rebooting right after boot when the home screen starts up just to have it reboot. I've tried wiping everything. Flashing rom + kernel through fastboot as well. I thought it was the ROM but it keeps doing it regardless or the ROM I flash. Including the one I was coming from.
Appreciate the help, thanks.

So I assume your S-ON. I had the same problem the other day flashing an ICS rom. I'm S-ON and GSM.
Just kept on rebooting no matter what.
I think it has to do with not flashing the new radio/firmware, but not sure.
I just went back to the GB rom and its fine.
You should be able to go back to your old rom. If you can't then maybe your old rom .zip file got corrupted.
Yeah, I re-downloaded the first ROM I was using. I still don't see why it worked fine on one my evo and not on my other. both are cdma.
Edit:
Well it's working now, it doesn't seem to work with any ICS roms, anyone know what could be wrong? My other evo works just fine with ICS roms.

You don't say whether you are S-Off or S-on. Hboot 1.5 S-on does not play well with ICS and usually bootloops.

Sorry, I thought people would understand it was S-ON due to it being 1.5. Is there a method to getting S-ON in 1.5? Both of my Evo's are HBOOT 1.5 S-ON. One of them worked fine without a problem, doesn't matter the ICS ROM. The other, the one I"m having a hard time with, does.

You can get s-off on 1.5 if you follow this link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1585846
I still recommend trying to get 1.4 s-off as that seems to be the one that has the least amount of problems. You can find how to do that in the CDMA Development forum stickies.

[Q] Bootloops when flashing ICS CDMA 1.5 S-On

I have an Evo 3D with HBoot 1.5, S-On, HTC Unlocked, running the latest 4ext recovery.
The short story:
I can't get any ICS roms running. They all boot, then get to the lock screen, then reboot. No problems anywhere else. If I recover (to my fresh rom), or flash a different GB rom, all works fine.
Longer version:
I currently use fresh rom, and just updated to the latest software by relocking, running the RUU, then seeing if there are any newer OTA. (there wasn't). Re-unlocked via HTC, then flashed twrp, rooted, installed 4ext, then started flashing ICS roms without success. I had tried to run them on the previous firmware, but ran into the same issue.
If it matters: I'm on a mac. I have a PC, but I prefer this. I've already got it set up for fastboot, adb and everything... I see the downgrade instructions, but I'm just a little hesitant to brick my device. Same with the j-bear...

Thanks for the quick reply...
So, are there any currently available kernels that fix this, since Chad's been gone for a little bit?

Bootlooping Issues

Hey guys, my 3VO hasn't been acting right lately. I was having trouble booting Agrabrens latest CM10 build for CDMA, it bootlooped, but then i was able to run it again later without issue. Now my phone is having trouble running ICS based Sense roms, the roms bootloop. None of these roms have a 1.58 hboot requirement and i'm running eng hboot. Lately my phone only can run AOSP/AOSP based roms(except for at least one i've tried) without bootloops. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Sounds like Sense is mad at you for trying AOSP ROM's.
I'm assuming you are S-OFF since you mentioned the ENG bootloader, but have you flashed the 2.89.651.2 (Sprint ICS) firmware yet? My preference would be to flash the whole RUU if you haven't already and then reflash recovery, but there is a .zip file in Virus's OTA thread that contains only the firmware, including hboot 1.58, that can be flashed from your current bootloader. You can always go back to the ENG bootloader once you get past this problem.

Recovery wouldnt have anything to do with his bootloops unless you flashed the a mod, kernel, or theme that doesnt play nice with the Rom. Like ramjet said, its more than likely a firmware and or hboot issue. Go with ramjet and try his solution.

[Q] Phone freezes, reboots, and other problems

JunoBear 1.50 s-off
4ext recovery
Mean ICS v2.6
Anthrax kernel 3.2.2
Radio 1.06.1216
Sprint CDMA
Problems:
Phone reboots randomly, even when in call
Phone freezes randomly
Holding down power button>power options> to restart> doesn't fully restart
getting a lot of roaming from home to work which never happened. Have to update prl back and forth from work to home which is annoying in itself.
What i have tried:
usually have to take battery out then can power back the phone on.
1.Wipe cache+dalvik, cache, dalvik cache
2.format system, data, everything, even sd card
3.tried superwipe
4. tried different roms MikVirgin 1.01, Mean ICS, Paranoid
5. tried different hboot eng 1.04, 1.40
6. tried the kernel with flashed rom, anthrax kernel, buttertoast
7. tried different variations with different roms,h-boot, etc.
Your radio is the problem. The ROMs and kernels you have mentioned on here run on the latest radio firmware. That the would explain why your phone freezes up when you try calling people and the random reboots are kernel and hboot incompatibilities. Heres a short list of what I mean.
Anthrax kernels can run on any hboot.
So can butteredtoast.
Most ICS roms can only run on hboot 1.58.00.00 or 1.58.5858
With the exception of zr3d Xl plus and viper3d.
All aosp ROMs can only be run on hboot 1.5 or lower.
All of these ROMs run on radio 1.09.0706
I would reccomend flashing this file to get you back on stock and on latest radios (1.09.0706 SPRINT 2.89)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193101
I reccomend you downloading this from your PC. Place it on the root of your sdcard and rename it PG86IMG in all caps. Insert the card back into your phone and power your into bootloader. When your phone detects the file, press the volume key up to start the update. Once finished, you can reflash your recovery, and then flash a ROM. Remember that ICS sense ROMs work with hboot 1.58 and Aosp ROMs works with 1.5 or lower. Good luck.

Not to be argumentative since 99% of what you said is right, but the only CDMA ROM (ICS or other) that requires hboot 1.58 is Coolexe's ROM. Viper doesn't anymore and the others never have. Some prefer certain radios and firmware though as you said.
If what jsparta said doesn't work, then I'd run the ruu.exe located in ramjet's thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1889438 . It will put you back to stock but s-off still. All firmware, radios, etc will be updated. If phone runs fine stock, then flash hboot, custom recovery and custom ROM. When I had issues, this fixed it fit me.
thanks guys. i'll give both a try. hopefully it will fix the problems.

i'm getting ready to try it today. i was giving it a day or so to see if the freezing problem was just a one time thing, but it turn out it's still doing it daily. And just today when my battery died, i charged the phone up, and powered it on, then it went into a boot loop.
any how for the ruu, is it necessary to relock the bootloader or can i just flash the ruu.exe?
update: i did the "fastboot oem lock" command, but output came up ...... <bootloader> Device was already locked!

Looking at your specs, it is not necessary to unlock or relock your bootloader being s-off. Your green lights to go ahead and run the ruu from your PC.

Honestly, with the problems you're describing, it sounds like you need to flash back to stock and take it in to a Sprint repair center. I'm assuming all the freezes and reboots have been an ongoing problem?

[Q] Trying to go from 4.03.605.2 to 3.14.605.12, S-ON

I've been scouring the internet for the last week trying to find a solution, but nothing has worked so far. I'm curious to know if anyone has been able to downgrade his/her software to 3.14.605.12 from the global leak (4.03.605.2) with S-ON. I've tried flashing through fastboot, recovery, flashing a patch to downgrade the main version number, flashing a custom rom first, and anything else I could find in the forums, but everything has failed. I'm trying to avoid going S-OFF. Is there any possible way to make this happen? Thanks.
ps - Sorry in advance if I somehow missed the thread where this has already been discussed at great length.
It isn't possible to downgrade with out being s-off.

Just out of curiosity, why are you trying to downgrade? I'm s-on and on the global leak as well.
terrible battery life and random reboots.

Unless you just don't want to do it, S-0ff is really pretty
easy and has many benefits. If you read and re-read the
instructions, you'll find the steps manageable and a nice reward
for your efforts.

Hm... well I don't have random reboots and I don't feel I have terrible battery life, but that can be subjective I guess. But I never have wifi on so I'm on 4G all the time, don't turn off bluetooth, don't have much syncing lately.
Have you tried all the settings tips for better battery life?
Are you tweaking your kernel and causing the reboots from that?

I ran the global update completely stock with amon ra and superuser installed. The only tweak I made to the software was to disable some bloat. I keep just about everything off (including 4g), and never turn up my brightness past 50%. I can get about two days of use like that with my thunderbolt (stock battery). I only really rooted to abuse 4g tethering at my house; I'm not exactly glued to my phone during the day. I updated my rezound because the auto-rotate setting kept crashing sense on 3.14.605.12. I guess it's entirely possibly I bought the worst rezound ever. I guess I'll just have to wait and see if they release another official build higher than 4.03.605.2.
Anyone want to buy a rezound? Works great! Like new!
Only advise I can give you. Fastboot flash the stock recovery, do a factory reset. Then flash your custom recovery and reflash your rom. No wipes needed while in custom recovery. Careful though, this will wipe your internal SD.

I am trying to accomplish the same deal. I want the newest radios from the latest OTA, but I'm stuck on the last Global leak with S-ON.
From what I understand, I have to:
1. Relock my bootloader (not entirely sure how)
2. Flash the latest RUU (all i can find is an .exe file, while all the instructions i find tell me to rename the file to PH98IMG.zip and i'm pretty sure it doesn't work like that with the .exe)
3. Install custom recovery and then re-root.
Can anyone please clarify the procedures? Do I have to reflash stock recovery at anytime during this process? If so, where can I find that file?
Thanks for your help!
Which RUU do you want to run? I've seen the 3.14.605.12 as an .exe and the global as a PH98IMG. You won't be able to run the .12 since you have already upgraded to the global and you are s-on.
The only way for you to get the OTA radios is to s-off since you can't downgrade. I wouldn't worry about it unless you are having bad signal or battery life as the OP. If you are, then follow Snuzzo's instructions to clear everything and start with a fresh install of the ROM (or global RUU if you want stock).
@Blazin
can't be accompliahed without going through the s off procedure first.

I'm on Neo's Infection 2.3 and I get pretty crappy battery life with the global radios. Neo recommends using the latest radios if you're experiencing poor battery performance.
I guess it's time to find a piece of wire and re-read the S-OFF instructions. I came from a Incredible and we didnt have to short our phone out to achieve S-OFF.
Thanks for your help guys.
My Plan of Attack
Tomorrow's my first day off in a while so I'll hopefully have time to do all this.
Before I start, I want to make sure I've got everything in order.
Goal: Downgrade from Global RUU with S-On to latest ICS RUU with S-Off
1. Relock my bootloader
2. Re-flash global RUU
3. S-Off
4. Flash latest ICS RUU
5. Unlock, install recovery, root
Does that sound right?
You have to root the global ruu and as a precaution, back up your internal/external SD contents along with your daily apps. Once you're s off you don't have to unlock if you flash a patched hboot.
5) flash patched hboot , flash recovery, choose a ROM or flash ota ruu + root + install latest busybox.

When I flashed the global RUU, i used Hansoon's all in one toolkit to unlock and root. Can I use that to root the RUU before S-OFF and in step 5?
I've never had to flash a patched HBOOT before. Should I just use the one provided by the Juopunut team?
Use theirs and you wouldn't have been able to flash before. As far as rooting its as easy as flashing the CWM-SuperSU flash able zip. Remember tho you have to be cautious when doing the ICS ruu, it will prompt for you to take an ota.
