Disable Wifi before boot? - HW problem - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

HI,
As it seems my sgs2 have some hardware problems with wifi -> when I try to activate/deactiva it, the state freezes, but phone stil works normal (without wifi offcourse). Now the wifi status is enabled and every time I tried to deactive it, process "android system" freezes. Also when I turn off/reset phone the wifi is still enabled (remember the settings from before somehow) or in the midle state (turing off).
So my question is: where I can set wifi to stay off when you turn phone on (.conf file maybe) So when the phone is turned on, wifi won't be activated.
I don't want to do factory reset yet.
Tnx

I backup with clockworkmod, then do the system reset and restore back only the data and still the same
If I only do the system reset then wifi in disabled. THIS IS OK, but I have to install all apps and do much settings.
So I really appriciate it if someone know hot to disable wifi on boot?
I also try to add some lines in file /system/build.prop to disable wifi, but without success

Looks like you need to do a full reset and a clean flash...
look into chainfires thread in i9100 original Android Dev section, find the firmware for your phone and flash away
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app

Tried to flash it with this offical firmware I9100XWLPT (4.0.4):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487
But the wifi stil can't be activated! I install program alogcat and that error appear a lot of times: "supplicant not running, cannot connect"
So I'm back to my old stable version 2.3.5.
I only need to figute out how to disable wifi, so the phone will work normal

it's obvious to be a SW problem
just make a full wipe ( wipe cache,data/factory reset, dalvik cache ) and try to install a new rom like sensation .. i've tried it and it's really stable and everything should be working well with u
if this fails .. so take it to service center

or you could use titanium backup, first nav. to apk folder and copy paste wifi apk's, two i think, into a new folder then delete the apps using tb then wipe dalvik cache reboot let it redo app optimisation this will put apps allready installed on then reinstall wifi apk's. failing this as evryone says below.

Still don't know my main question:
Where I can set wifi to stay off when you turn phone on (.conf file maybe) So when the phone is turned on, wifi won't be activated.

This looks like kernel issue.
Try to change your kernel to a custom one.
Personally, I'll recommend Siyah or Speedmod
Swyped from my Samsung Galaxy SII

Tried different kernels, but I got HW issue!
Found something useful, but this is can be done after boot:
Use Android Terminal Emulator and enter:
svc wifi disable

Finally!! I find the solution:
I have to edit this file: (I use app aSQLiteManager and aShell to edit .db file)
/data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db
Inside database file is a table called secure and the field wifi_on has to be changed from 1 to 0.
After reboot wifi was disabled.
You could do that if you phone has hardware issues with WIFI module. Otherwise Andoid OS is very unstable.

Hi, i have a question. If my database file called secure doesn´t have wifi_on field? .... just i have to add the field or what? thanks

[Q] Phone hangs at lockscreen, screen turns white and phone reboots

EDIT: Never mind, I will just reflash through ODIN.
Hello. Looked for an answer everywhere, but nothing helpful comes up in the search results (both Google and XDA).
My problem is this: when the phone boots up, it hangs at the lockscreen, the screen turns completely white a minute later, and then shows the lockscreen again as if it did a warm reboot. The process then repeats. I can connect through ADB, and it appears that the shell is working correctly.
The problem first appeared when I experimented with NTFS mounter apps on Play Store. After one of the reboots, the phone suddenly informed my in a popup ("toast") window that /mnt/sdcard/external_sd was missing. I connected through ADB and checked - the whole /mnt directory was missing. I re-created it and made a folder called sdcard inside, then rebooted. Android populated /mnt with its own folders, eg. asec, obb and so on, but the problem was still present - the phone is still the way it was.
It appears that while GUI hangs, the ADB access is still working correctly. Recovery is working correctly and detects both internal and external SD.
Can anybody help me please? I don't know what to do, I never had this problem before.
My PDA is XWLPY, model is GT-I9100.
If you are rooted try reflash if not I would try download and reflash stock ROM with ODIN?

I will do that tomorrow. I'll try downgrading to XWLPI to get rid of the brickbug as well. Does anybody know if that could be unsafe?

[Q] Low memory : can't uninstall app and can't connect through adb

Hi all,
Since a few days I have a very frustating problem with my Galaxy S2 (i9100) after I installed some new apps. At first all seemed good, but then the low space warning came. Fair enough, let's delete some apps. But the main problem is that, with the low space warning coming, all apps (system ones also) started crashing. The result is that even if I can go into the application management menu and delete some apps (it says uninstall successful and the apps disappear from the menu), in fact the apps don't seem to be uninstalled. When I reboot the phone, the apps are still here and the status is the same (low space and apps crashing). I also tried to wipe the dalvik cache through recovery but that didn't change anything.
I wanted to uninstall some apps through adb but when I choose the USB debugging option and plug the phone, nothing seems to happen, I can't see the device listed through adb devices. My guess here is that, as system apps are crashing, although the usb debugging appears as set, I can't in fact set it.
Next step was to reboot in recovery mode and try to access the phone through adb, but it seems the stock recovery mode (3e) doesn't allow adb connection.
Then next step is to try to install CWM (which supports adb if I'm not wrong). I can boot the phone in download mode, so I should be able to do the installation through Odin but I have some questions concerning CWM version. In most of the tutorials I saw, they're talking of JB and ICS version for GS2, but my phone is still in gingerbread (2.3.3). The CWM site isn't very clear about the versions (only talking of Recovery and Touch Recovery). From reading some blogs on Internet, it would seem that the 4.0.1.5 shoud be working with Gingerbread but nobody seems affirmative about that.
Dear community, this is why I come seeking your help. My goals here would be (in the following order) :
a) Get my phone fully operational to be able backup everything (sms, app list, data, ...) and continue to use it as-is (on the short term, time to install some kitkat rom)
b) Get an adb connection to backup everything (you can backup nearly anything through adb (sms, ...) ?
c) Get a way to at least backup the data
So :
1) Have you ever encountered this behaviour ?
2) Were you able to solve it ? If yes how ?
I have a few other questions :
3) Can you confirm that the stock recovery mode indeed doesn't support adb connections ?
4) Does CWM indeed support adb connections ?
5) What version of CWM would work with my phone ?
6) What are the risks of using another CWM version (if none work with gingerbread) ?
Thanks in advance for any assistance you could provide.
By the way, forgot to add that I also tried the *#9900# code to delete the logs but nothing happened (I suppose the process crash before deleting anything).
For the moment, I see only 2 options :
Install a custom recovery with adb support
Try to reflash the ROM
For the moment I'm investigating the first option, as I'm not really sure the second would do any good in my case. While doing this I discovered PhilZ-CWM which is a very nice CWM mod !

[Q] HELP! Installed a currupt theme, now can't remove it!

Hi Guys
Been having a problem for the last one week. I'm on CM11 snapshot m7. I installed the One plus one theme, which seemed to run very well until my battery drained completely. Now when I boot my phone, it gives me an error message "unfortunately com.android.systemui has stopped working."
I figured it must be a corrupt theme so I just need to uninstall it. But I can't access settings, as even if I hit "OK" on the error message, the msg keeps reappearing, not allowing me to do anything with my phone.
The last solution I have, of course, is to do a factory reset and flash a working ROM. But then I'll lose all my app data. I tried the following solutions, but in vain. Please let me know if you guys can think of anything else, so as to save my app data! My last Titanium backup was a few months ago!
1. Tried to uninstall the app via adb, but my USB debugging is off, adb doesn't detect my device (and I can't access settings to turn it back on)
2. Tried to boot my phone in safe mode and uninstall the app but even in safe mode it shows the same error message and doesn't allow me to do anything.
3. Tried installing the ROM and Gapps hoping it would replace the filed modified by the theme, and my default theme would be back on.
4. Found an apk for the default (holosense) theme, converted it to .zip and tried flashing it through CWM.
5. Tried flashing the apk via sideload in CWM, but again my USB debugging being off, adb did not detect my phone.
When I had my system ui failure, I was still able to open quick settings drawer and access settings through there even though system ui was constantly crashing...

try formatting cache and dalvik and try rebooting
if it doesnt work do a clean wipe and flash your rom it should do the trick
possibly no other go
for preserving your data
do a nandroid backup first and then do a clean wipe
this way you can extract app+data from nandroid via titanium backup later
hope it helps mate

Disable quicklaunch toggles enabled by default after factory reset. (which file?)

After the first phone launch, few buttons are enabled like, GPS, MOBILE DATA, SYNC by default.
I want to edit the file responsible for these buttons and disable them by default.
Any idea which file should I edit?
I wonder what this option looks like: GPS.toggle.enabled=true/false?
in general in all the roms you can configure the toggles to remove or add options
first of all what android version do you have?
its custom rom based on 4.1.2 version
And i don't want remove/add the toggle. I want these buttons to be turned off (inactive) at the first phone launch. Need set it in system file permanently.
That if someone installs or full wipe this rom, gps and mobiledata will not be active. Like it is set somehow by default.
I really do not understand much of the subject if I deactivate for example Sync this will remain inactive even if I restart the mobile
* I hope that someone else can help you

But is not after factory reset and setup wizard. GPS, Sync, and mobile data are enabled, I want to change it.
Now you should understand.
Which system file I have to edit to disable quicklaunch toggles button enabled by default after factory reset. Because I'm editing my custom rom
Its propably in SecSetting.apk or SecSettingProvider.apk

The only thing that occurs to me is that you make a backup of these files before returning from the factory, I understand that what you want to do will not be possible with the roms of samsung can with CM if
I found it
SecSettingsProvider\res\values\bools.xml
<bool name="def_airplane_mode_on">false</bool> so if i change it to true, airplane mode is enabled after factory reset. But i cant find mobile data and gps, propably i have to write new..

I think that if the airplane mode is activated, the data and gps are not activated
edit: no, just turn off the data you will have to find the place for GPS
I tried to add new line
<bool name="def_mobile_data">false</bool>
but thats not working
however on strings.xml
<string name="def_location_providers_allowed">gps</string>
if I delete "gps" and leave it empty its working, gps are off by default first succes
But I have not figured out yet how to disable data

Cannot connect to my home wifi (only) after accidentally blacklisting it

So, the weirdest thing happened to me... I installed an app named WiFi Connection Manager from roamingsoft to play around, and I asked this app to blacklist my home wifi.
I then asked to un-blacklist it, but that failed, and ever since I cannot connect to my home wifi anymore: when I insert password it lists my wifi as "saved" but it won't connect.
Things I tried that did not work:
change wifi name
change wifi password
change wifi channel
reset bits and piece all the way down to factory reset the phone, install a different rom* and go back to original rom
* more on that below
Things I tried that did work:
change rom to lineage OS
change rom from android 9 to 8 (both original android one rom from the phone brand) (but going back to the original rom version 9 fails again, even tho I flashed form a newly downloaded file with nothing to do with the version I did somehow corrupt, and before I even logged in to android, so the phone did not even know it was the same user)
change the security of my wireless from wpa2 to something else (wpa/wpa2 for example)
oddly enough if I change wifi settings to have the same wifi name shared between my 2.4ghz and my 5ghz wifi, my phone will connect to the wifi, and it will connect using the 5ghz (the problematic one).
---
i also have the feeling a corruption to my nfc happened at the same time, but I don't know for sure, in case someone knows of a connection between the two problems let me know, but the nfc never worked on other roms.
When I flash a new image I flash a number of partitions including one named bluetooth, so I can't imagine which partition I am leaving untouched that has the blacklist in it...
Does anyone have an idea how an app -even if it had root privileges- could cause such low level damage, and more importantly how I could fix it?
