Remove Stock launcher - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anybody tried to removed the stock launcher already ?
I'm running Go Launcher and want to remove all software that is no longer necessary .

Yes, but I always have a spare launcher (zeam) in case one crashes, saves a lot of hassle! Removing tw hasn't caused me any problems

You can remove it. Then go launcher will be your default launcher.
Just do not remove go launcher else your phone wont boot.
You can remove it by either some sort of debloater or use titanium backup pro uninstall.

[Q] Cyanogenmod7 Help launcher

hey there i was just wondering if there is a way to change the adw launcher in cyanogenmod 7.03 to launcher pro
Yes you can change the launcher in any Android ROM. Install LauncherPro, press Home button, check "Use by default for this action", then select LauncherPro.

Just leave it. It doesn't take up any app storage space because it was part of the ROM.

Also, If you're s-off after installing launcherpro you can move it to the /system/app folder too. If you're not s-off you can preinsert it into the rom zip in the /system/app folder or use adb to push it to the /system/app folder.
The same methods can be used to remove adw. I like to remove whatever I don't use because rebooting after wiping dalvik takes longer the more apps you have.

[Q] minicm7 stuck at logo due to deleting of system launchers and installing zeam

i recently installed minicm 7 latest version on my x10 mini pro. it was running quite smoothly. however, not being happy with both adw launcher and home.apk(SE launcher) i deleted both of the apps from the system/apps folder and installed zeam launcher NORMALLY(via play store). But now on restarting the phone it stucks and the minicm logo. please help!
also i deleted some other files from system/apps (latin ime.apk userdictionayprovider.apk) which might have caused the problem.
is there a way to install zeam launcher into the system folder using CWWM recovery?
Just flash your rom again so you have the missing files back, then install zeam-launcher, set it as default and then delete the other stuff, no need to do a wipe if you install the same rom.
thanks. but i already did a full swipe and installed the rom

And? Did that solve your problem? Or are you still stuck? Did you get zeamlauncher working?

Where did this accuweather widget come from?

So I'm playing around with custom ROMs when the official ICS update comes out. I load it and decide I want to re-root and move back to a custom ROM.
I loaded FJMOD's ROM and then updated to his build 3.
Somewhere along the way, this accuweather widget comes up on my lock screen. It never updates so I want to get rid of it.
Now I'm showing my newbiness - how? There's no option to uninstall in applications. I can see 2 icons listed in System -> Applications - Accuweather Weather Daemon and AccuWeather.com. I can't uninstall either.
I'm guessing this is easy, but I can't find it. Can someone point me to a reference to uninstall "uninstallable" applications?
BTW - I tried to disable the apps, and that worked. But I still can't uninstall.
Thanks
Download tb free and un install. It'll be a system app but you can remove it

How to remove Nova launcher from SlimBean 4.3.1. rom?

I installed Apex launcher and it is now set to default launcher. Through slim file manager i got to system\app and tried to remove nova from there but it just says Delete Failed.

Ensure that root access is enabled on your Slimbean rom.
This is quoted from slimroms.net:
Root access works in another way in 4.3 then it was before. It is disabled by default. If you want to have root access go into your Superuser application or in Settings->Developer options and enable it. Please note as well that currently some third party kernels are around which may break root.

Once superuser is enabled, try via the Slimsizer again.
If it still fails:
Use a root explorer app from the play store. Any of them will do. Ensure superuser permission is granted, and remove from system\app.

Thanks a million man. Also, in case anyone else needs this, use a cleaning app after erasing Nova(or anything else), and reboot your phone. Remember to have a second launcher installed prior removing Nova.
I prefer disabling (aka freezing) default keyboards and launchers versus uninstalling. If you ever get in a situation with your alternate app you have a fallback you may potentially be able to reenable

Is there a way to use a stock jellybean homescreen, not a launcher?

You misunderstand. Anything you see from the home screen is the launcher. Without one installed it is just a black screen that you can't do anything with.
If you want that then find the JB launcher somewhere around.

Replace TW for Nova Launcher

I'm not sure if you can put NOVA LAUNCHER in the private/app folder, to remove TW without showing incompatibilities and to avoid some kernel FC of @djmax (suemax kernel 1.2)
Any ideas?

Just install it from Play store. You can choose which home launcher to run as default from within Nova
