Mod for Incoming call screen to reduce the side / translucence of black background - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

One thing i love about ICS and JB is it has vastly improved the Caller images, those low res small images used to really get my goat! Using Hax Sync on ICS was able to get pretty good images and on JB i think the native resolution of the images is even higher because they seem to be a lot sharper. I still dont get the wierd way on which google has decided to splice the photo in the people app / contact menu tho, usually manages to cut of the head or something ,, seem completely illogical for me, tho again Hax Sync and its face detect feature to the rescue .. somewhat atleast ! :victory:
However another issue i see is the black background which pops up on incoming calls which covers about 60 % of the screen. This completely covers the image and defeats the purpose of having these beautiful high res photos of ppl synced to your phone.
Is there anyway around this which can either reduce the size and coverage of this black background or alternately control its translucence?
Any ROMs / Mods out there that address this ?
Would appreciate any suggestion on this..
Thanks
Hoshner.

Here check out this screen shot, as you can see, almost 75% of the screen is taken up by the opaque black background and the top by the translucent caller id banner, leaving just a thin slice of the screen for the caller photo..
Any devs have / can work on mods for this?

[Q] Video Camera Background Effect

Anyone figured this out yet? My kids love the funny face effect but we can't seem to figure out the background effect. You choose one and it says to get out of view and put the Prime down. We've done that but when you pick the Prime back up to shoot the effect is only shown where the picture is dark or black. I don't get it. It's really no big deal but my kids love stuff like this.
Set up the prime where it can stand by itself (set it up where the background isn't moving). Then turn on the effect. Stay out of the view of the camera. Then go back into view after it displays the Image you chose on the screen and record yourself. Its not actively fun because you cant use it and see it at the same time. It acts as a green screen though. So its fun for music videos or little plays.
Edit:
You can also put it over your own videos in the pick your own video one so you could make a face to face with yourself video.
Also shadows will be interpreted as new objects and in turn not be "Green Screened" so pick an area where the is minimal shadows.
Thanks, I'll give that a try tonight.

[Q] Aosp full screen caller

hello there.... argh... i dont like full screen caller a bit... low res of the pics make my phone look like cheap iphone of some kind. the pics are low res and when i dial someone it stretch the photo beyond recognition. is there any way to turn this feature off ?

[Q] strange photopicture quality

attaches pic shows a carpet. it looks blury and kind of filtered - but i haven't selected one. all settings on "0", highest resolution and so on.
anyone has a hint why?
It seems the HOX+ has strong noise filters... that means if you take a pic in very dim light it will not show much noise but it will look a bit like a painting
both (noise and strong noise filters) is not good for picture quality, so your pic would be nothing in any matter... take a pic in good light, there the quality is very good for a phone... And I don't know how much your sample picture has been magnified....
btw: why did you take a pic of your carpet??
thanks for the answer. i took the pic in dimmed light, max zoom. even faces are pixeled like that - but i don't won't to paste my wife here
how can i disable the noise filter? i like most features of the camera - but good light isn't always possible.

Zoom is just digital zoom, so if you take a picture at widest setting and copy the inner part out of it on your computer does the same... digital zoom is crap, but only way today on smartphones...
you can't do anything about the noise filter. try another photo app, maybe it handles pictures in a different way - didn't test it until today so I don't know where the processing does take it's part...
i had google camera 4.2 on my desire hd - what was a very fine app. but my hox+ isn't rooted yet (2 days old) and i like the fast picture option.
thanks for your hints
still not lucky with the advertised "best camera" - qualitiy is so pixelated :/ on my desire hd all was nice and clear.
is this a software or a hardware "bug"?
comparing "normal" with "camera pro" i have 990kb vs. 4.5mb
normal:
pro-camera:
took max. resolution, no filters or other changes.
maybe someone can show a pic from his hox+
it's frustrating.
thanks for your help

Display issue ?

Hi ,
I noticed an issue with the display of my Nokia 7.1
the edges of the display look cropped, I mean that text or photos look cut off.
1- the screenshot in the first photo from facebook app shows obvious cropping on the left side (the word Sony)
2-second screenshot from eBay app, see the word lens is missing the letter S
3-third screenshot from Instagram stories, both emoticons are cropped.
4-the last photo shows a screenshot on the left with cropped green leaf,
and on the right, a screenshot sent to me from the account owner the leaf is not as cropped as what I see .
my display size in display setting is on Default !
I contacted Nokia support through the app in the phone, they asked me to do a soft reset, reset app preferences.
nothing solved the issue,
any suggestion, are you facing the same issue ?
My understanding is that this is caused by the aspect ratio (this phone is 18:9). A lot of apps have not been updated on Android to support this natively, which is why you see the cut off edges on images in things like Instagram or Snapchat.
I agree fully with Ansago. I see this in eBay and Instagram (not to the extremes your screenshots show but it is there) and I was also under the impression that it is the long form factor of the screen not playing well with cell padding in the app designs. I tried to alter a lot of settings like display size and keyboard height but nothing was changing the text wrap cut off when I found a few examples. I think because it is limited to so few apps that it is on the app programmers to fix the issue.

Colour bleeding on screen when scrolling, particularly noticeable with black

Hi all, I've had my Mate 20 Pro for a few months now and I've slowly started noticing this weird sort of bleeding that seems to happen on my screen when I'm scrolling or switching between apps, particularly noticeable with apps that have dark mode on.
For an even longer time I've noticed that when on the official Reddit app (dark mode) for example and I'm scrolling down, the text becomes very fuzzy looking and the top of the text looks darker than the rest (or bottom if scrolling up).
Now the same thing is happening to images and app screenshot when switching between apps. It's become very noticeable now. Has anyone else experienced this?
I should note that this is on the lowest brightness settings. When I turn my brightness all the way up, I can't seem to notice it as much. My eye will only catch a split second of bleeding when scrolling past images.
I've attached a screen recording here gfycat . com/happyunhealthybeardedcollie but I'm unsure if you will able to see it or not. (I'm unable to post outside links or upload as I am a new user, apologies for the inconvenience).
Thanks.
Pretty sure it's OLED smearing

... and it is normal on this type of screens. Black color on these screens means powered off pixels. The time needed for these pixels to turn on or turn off during scrolling yields that smearing effect. This is the price we are paying for having screens that display black as it should be, i.e. total absolut black.
