HDMI Display Along With USB Features - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I looking for a little information as to if it is possible to mirror using HDMI and simultaneously utilize the USB functions for mass storage and other USB connectivity. I would like to build a media station but before I gathered up all the items necessary I wanted to know if it is possible?

As you know, the mini usb out to MHL adaptor is used for HDMI mirroring. When you plug your charger into the MHL adaptor it is for powering only the MHL. So, no you can't use usb for anything.
Can you do whatever else you want by bluetooth or wifi? Like keyboard or mouse or what?

I have not been around for a while I have lost touch with things but I know that MHL is for mirror display. I had older phones where I made concoctions where I could charge and at the same time use USB functions. Just needed a lil help with the pin out to know if it was possible or not. I want to use my device as a media center where it is the game console, substitute PC, and etc. Just trying to find a way to make that happen.

Friend, don't take my response the wrong way. I am not being condesending. When I answer a question I try to answer not just to you but to the others that may read our discusion and not know what you know. So please, no offense intended at all.
Anyway, is there any possibility using bluetooth or wifi?

Looks like the note can't but the SIII can.

If anyone is looking for the samething as I was check out the threads that show you how to Bluetooth the PS3 controlled to your android device. I have done it, and it is awesome.

So my bluetooth suggestion was the correct direction? Cool. I didn't think the MHL adaptor our phone uses was flexible at all.
Thanks for sharing.

If you feel you need the credit then it is all yours. Congrats!

No thanks, keep it. You seem very stingy.

mini usb cables

can i use a regular mini usb cable to send files to my phone and or trickle charge it from my computer if my charger isnt available.
i know this seems like kind of a retarded question but the mini usb that came with my phone i lost.. and i know that the end looked a little different then a regular mini usb.
thanks
Yup, I am using a generic one to transfer files. It is recommended to find one with a choke on it but I have used both. The choke looks like a bead or a barrel in the cable near the one end.

what exactly does the choke do?
where have you seen this recommendation?
The "choke" is just a ferrite bead that stops electro-magnetic leakage from the cable so it doesn't interfere with other electronics. I usually cut them off to make a lighter and easier cable to route around my work areas.
look around, you will see the recommendations whenever someone is flashing a rom or working around the inner workings of Android. If your just transferring pics and stuff no big deal, only when you really care about the quality of data will it matter

Umm, the one that I got with the phone wasn't mini-USB. It was extUSB. miniUSB works as well but I find it harder to insert so I just use extUSB. I tried some miniUSB cables that have two of those magnetic protections. extUSB also sits very good in the socket.
My camera, my old cell phone, my G1, and my BT headset all use the same mini USB plug and I use them all interchangeably without any ill effect. I prefer to use the one that came with the G1 at my house while making themes and doing lots of flashing but I use the other ones too for the same things and have never had an issue.

Backup battery compatible with the Prime

Does anyone know of a backup battery that will charge the prime on the Go? I have one for my phone but it only outputs 5V.

I didn't want to have to get it yet. I was holding out to see if it became necessary.
Because it not a regular micro USB port finding another power alternative won't be easy

Try this for a battery backup solution, then all you need is the cable that comes with the wall wart...

Thanks for the suggestion but apparently the prime will only charge with 12V or greater and this only puts out 5v. I have one of these in the 5000mah version for my phone, works exceptionally well but it won't charge the Prime, unfortunatly.
I use this:
http://www.phonesuit.com/primo-power-core-battery-pack-for-tablets-phones/
for the wife's iPad and from what I can tell it would work for my Prime as well. I may have to get another one for me.
I like that phone suit, it's not bad looking, but I have no idea how I'd get the Prime hooked to it to charge especially since it needs their own special plug.
What I'm wondering is why did Asus choose to go with a 3cell lithium ion battery (12.6V charged) when it looks like the other tabs are using a 1 cell (4.2V) like the phones use.

The PhoneSuit has a USB plug on it for the 12V out, so you can use the Asus power cord.

Fuhu Nabi 2 Usb charging

Warning, your warrantee is now void. I take no responsibility for damaged devices doing this mod, nor any issues that may arise in the future from doing this
Just felt like posting this little mod I did to a Nabi 2. After re soldering tge wires on the oe charge cable it finally couldnt be fixed anymore. It didnt take long for me to get frustrated with the flimsy, thin charge...thing, and rip it open to see what could be done.
After a little poking and prodding I found the simplest solution.
It seems the 5v pin on the usb port is electrically separate from the charge circuit, but they all share a common ground. Soldering directly to the usb port was all but impossible because of how the port is designed, and my soldering iron isnt that tiny, but I found a resistor tied to the 5v pin.
I soldered a wire to the resistor since it had a decent surface area to get a solid solder joint, then soldered the wire to the positive pin on the charge port. The result? Micro usb charging.
I have found a bit of a glitch however. Plugging the device into a pc does properly kick it into usb storage mode, but because of the low amperage, it begins to cycle the charge system between charging an not (as if contantly plugging and unplugging the device) the same happens if you use a charger rated lower than 1amp or a bad cable.
Besides that it seems to be doing fine

Thanks. Not sure why I didn't think of this years ago. Been searching for the original cable to try and make some use of the tablet and decided to see if it was possible to charge via usb. Couldn't have been easier to modify and it works perfectly.

No, there is no such thing. MHL is a digital standard, all the things you each want to connect to are analogue.
You are trying to put diesel in a petrol car, it just won't work.

Yes you can actually convert digital to analog by using an active converter, but that is somewhat expensive and unless you absolutely want to use it it's useless. Link here and also you will need a female to female adapter here for it to work. I have not personally tested but it should work (in theory).
Err, no. There is no MHL to VGA connector for the S3. You've found HDMI equipment, which uses the same plug but would ignore the signal -like plugging an S3 into a HDMI TV that doesn't have MHL, nothing happens.

How about this ? First, you are wrong abut the TV. No TV in existence has MHL. MHL is a standard for MOBILE DEVICES, not TV's

so any adapter from HDMI to VGA that is active will work. Please do a bit of research before you post :good: . And then from VGA to SCART or RCA you will also need another adapter.
Lol, the op wanted to connect a mobile phone to a t.v.so yes, MHL is required in both the phone and the tv.
Relax, chill.

Mi Box 3 (Android TV MDZ-16-AB) restart after boot animation

Hi guys,
just buyed a Mi Box 3 Intenational Version (MDZ-16-AB) two weeks ago. Suddendly, after two days of use, the power supply died. Bought a PSP one that works. The problem is that now it don't pass the boot animation, it restarts. It sometimes even show "Android" but then it restarts again. I've tried every guide on the internet for this model and nothing works. I've tried:
- using the images that you only have to put in USB disk and reboot into recovery
- putting the update.zip into the USB disk and then "Install from EXT" -> "udisk"
I always do a factory reset before install an image.
Nothing works, unfortunally. The box stills bootloop. I'm out of ideas so I came for your help.
Do you know any way to get the Mi Box back to stock an working? Do this already happened to someone?
Thank you.
The MiBox uses a very specific 5.2v 2A power supply.
Have seen many problems with more common 5.0v power supplies that dont match MiBox spec.
The huge internal heat sink is the reason for 5.2v requirement.

Are you sure that can be the reason? The only 5.2 2A adapters that I can found costs 20€. Thats almost half of what I paid for the for, would not want to spent that without certain.
Here's the charger that I buyed:

Anyone?
Hi guys! Just to close the subject, it was the charger. I stripped down the 4mm x 1.7 mm of the original charger and a USB cable and put them together. Using the improvised cable with a iPad charger (5.15v 2.1 A) the box lives again .
TL;DR : use a charger with the exact box specifications or the box will not work.
