lcokscreen & homescreen wallpaper not aligned - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i have the same wallpaper for my lockscreen and homescreen but the wallpaper is never aligned, when unlocking screen the picture appears to move up by 2mm, it doesn't match the same position of lockscreen wallpaper. I did have this problem with live wallpapers but that has now disappeared, i only get it with pictures and photos now, i set wallpaper by using 'Home and lock screens' option so not sure what is going wrong.
can someone help??

stock launcher, stock rom lg8 too.

I'm noticing the same thing with my stock SGS3 where the lockscreen pattern image is noticeably a darker, lesser quality image than the home screen one as well as being slightly skewed by a millimetre or two. I realise it's no big deal, it's just a bit annoying.
Any suggestions?

I encounter the same problem on my xperia. It's way off to the right on mine, by around 2 cm. I know it's just aesthetics, but it annoys me greatly. Would be great if someone knew how to fix this.
Edit*
Funny. It fixed itself after a few reboots

GO Launcher Ex Wallpaper Zoom

Hey everyone - having a slight problem with my all-time favourite wallpaper (which I brought along from my Symbian device) in combination with GO Launcher Ex.
Whenever I try to choose it as my homescreen wallpaper it gets zoomed in and very pixelated - TouchWiz doesn't have that problem.
Unfortunately Google & site search weren't able to provide a satisfactory solution ..so, anyone have an idea how to get it working?

Try to get that pic in 480 x 800 resolution, it will fit perfectly for portrait mode wallpaper.

Cheers mate, seems to have worked!
Blew the pic up to 480*852 first and then cropped 52 pixels from the top (only black anyways).
Resolution still seems to be fine enough.
Guess another possibility would have been to make a new all black 480*800 image and copy mine into the centre of that ..
Mmh. Will try that aswell.
*edit*
Crap. Just installed the newest version of GO Launcher and back to zoomed wallpapers we are - regardless of size. Only way to fix it is to switch back to TouchWiz and then back to GO Launcher again - which sucks.

What if you use Wallpaper Set and Save or Wallpaper Plus? They come out very sharp when I use apps like these.
I have noticed this bug as well. I can get it resolved by going back to the default launcher temporarily, set the wallpaper there, then relaunch Go Launcher, and it seems to be correct. It only happens to portait pics where there is no background scroll though.
Could it not be due to the wallpaper being in scan mode (as you go through the 7 screens the background image moves along)? Because in my HD2 (in SD Android) would select a square-ish area from the centre of the image I wanted as a wallpaper. When I changed it to the same image for all screens, then the selection of the image was in the same shape as the screen.

Are those Apps? Haven't heard of them before and might give it a shot - however there's probably also a certain increase in battery use associated with that method, something I'm not sure I'm prepared to accept.

Yup, exactly the same here. If only it weren't for the GO Launcher Calendar widget, I'd try another launcher or stick with stock TouchWiz ..

I have unticked that option, the background isn't scrolling.
Meh..

The problem seems to be known but possibly not recognized as a problem by the GO Dev team:
After the research, it seems the wrong of Android system. Because the API we use to get wallpaper of system give us the zoom wallpaper.

Also, another possible solution seems to be https://market.android.com/details?id=org.tamanegi.wallpaper.multipicture - however, Live Wallpaper = more juice required.
Same here happened. I just switch to TW luncher and back to GO luncher
Actually, installing the latest update of the GO Calendar widget seems to have fixed the problem.
When I installed it the wallpaper first bugged out again but when re-setting it, it worked fine without switching to TouchWiz. Perhaps that'll work for someone else, too.

Had same problem, stopped using stock gallery to select wallpaper, and started using qpix to select wallpaper, and it works fine for me now. Seems problem for me was the stock gallery app I was using to select the wallpaper.
Currently having the same issue and neither TW or GoLauncher is playing nicely with me.

I am having a problem I am using GO Launcher Ex and my backgrounds appear to be zoomed in a little bit even though when I'm setting the wallpaper it is fully zoomed out with the orange box. It has only recently happened because it never did that before and it happens no matter what wallpaper I set.

Anyone have any answers?
Thanks.

Just an update: I found that switching back to twlauncher fixed the problem with the wallpaper! Switched back to Go Launcher Ex and it stayed fixed. Weird.
In case that doesn't work
Hey I found that my background would not scroll if I swapped to the tw launcher and then back, and it seems that its the default wallpaper selector. I use wallpaper wizardii and choose the scroll option when setting wallpaper and it works great.

[Q] Can't change lockscreen wallpaper

I've looked around here for a while, but I can't find an answer.
I'm using a rooted Tab 10.1. I'm using MultiPicture Live Wallpaper to set the five screens, and I have no problem with that.
I do, however, have a problem setting the lock screen wallpaper. I've tried changing it by hitting the + then going to wallpaper, I've tried changing it from the gallery itself, but nothing's working.
The tab flashes for a second as if it's changing wallpapers, but then when I got to the lock screen, the default one is still there. It's not a huge deal as it obviously doesn't affect how the tab actually works, but it's annoying that something so simple isn't working properly.
Any ideas here?
edit: and yes, I've tried setting the lockscreen wallpaper from within Multipicture Live Wallpaper. Still not working. :\
thanks!

On Stock Touch Wiz UX, you have two options when you change the wallpaper, it will ask if you want to change Home Screen or Lockscreen, you can have two different ones but it seems live wallpapers or "wallpaper apps" outside of Gallery can cause bugs in this preventing the wallpaper from changing or even displaying properly. Sometimes on mine when I change it, (its random when this happens too) is, the wallpaper sometimes gets cut off on the edges with a huge black crop, I have to switch to portrait and then back to Landscape for the wallpaper to display properly, I've noticed it only does it with Wizidrii Wallpaper app installed, it must do some sort of modification to the wallpaper settings that causes it, once I uninstall it, the wallpapers work perfectly fine. Using the multipicture Live Wallpaper could be affecting the Lockscreen settings preventing it from changing, what I recommend would be to try changing the lockscreen FIRST before using the Live Wallpaper your trying to set with the lockscreen of your choice.
I would try using just regular images instead of live wallpapers to see if that affects it also, a rooted rom could be the culprit too since custom Honeycomb ROM's are glitchy at best since Google never released its source code yet.
Should have mentioned, even when I use a normal wallpaper, like one that came with the tab, I still cannot set the lockscreen.
I'm using the default ROM, just rooted it.

Have you tried just going to Settings -} Screen-} ScreenDisplay... And changing the wallpaper from there?
I have perrty much the same setup your running except in not rooted. On a side note, I don't have any issues with setting my lockscreen wallpaper using any method. Could it have something to do with root?
Sent from my Galaxy10.1 TouchWiz/ADWex equipped Starship.
Got the same problem with Overcome Rom installed, can't change the lockscreen wallpaper, tried all ways, via Gallery, Settings, Multi Live Wallpaper, it simply remains the orange stock one, only if i try it via MLW after unlocking the device the selected wall flashes for a split second....anyone got an idea about that?
Having the same issue with Task's ROM. I can change the regular wallpaper fine, going it settings-screen and changing there does nothing. It goes through the process but when you return, nothing has changed. Even rebooted after changing to see if it needed that and I can't change that paper.

Wallpaper help

Why does it ALWAYS crop my wallpapers, even the factory ones too. I can't find a setting that will disable this and my wallpapers look like ****. Does same thing on aftermarket launchers too.
Some have had luck with certain wallpaper apps and launchers being used in conjunction. What works for me is using an app called "PicSpeed Wallpapers." Download it and then go into your gallery. Find a picture you want as your wallpaper-> menu> set as-> PicSpeed. Here you'll have an option to have it scrollable (doesn't work for me), vertical, or horizontal. Horizontal makes them look like "normal" again. Kind of an extra step but worth it. Hope this helps
My wallpapers look fine. You shouldn't have to use another app. There must be a setting somewhere. I don't think that is standard.
I seem to remember something coming up the first time I opened the wallpapers, but didn't read it and accidently clicked the "do not show me again" box. Any way to restore the wallpaper settings to stock?

OK, I think I figured this out. If you long press on the screen you can pick wallpapers and that is how I always have done it. Now the other way to set the wallpaper is to click the menu button (the physical button) then click wallpapers, then the type of wallpapers and when you select one it gives you the resize option. So play around with that and you should be good to go.

Do you have any other picture management apps installed?
Ive tried both ways and I always get the prompt to resize the wallpaper to the truncated version.
Ive also tried ADW launcher, quick pic, wallpaper wizardii. Nothing seems to work. No scroll. Very annoying.

My guess is that scrollable wallpapers lag this phone so bad that they just disabled it in the kernel. The GPU in this phone is way underpowered for the screen resolution.
adw launcher has always had this issue...had it with my streak as well. i talked to the adw dev about it and he was aware of the issue but couldn't fix it as he didn't have a test unit (and probably didnt want to be bothered with it). i assume other launchers would have similar issues (due to landscape transition sizing)
always used a live wallpaper or found a higher res patterned picture that could be cropped without too much pain.

I'm totally stock and rooted but I don't get the resize option on the screen long press way. Strange!!
No matter how I choose my wallpaper, it does this. If I choose a wallpaper I downloaded for 1280x800 sometimes the orange box is the size of the entire pic and it looks great. But it shouldn't do this with the stock wallpapers.
Something else, If I set the wallpaper during Go launcher and then switch to TW the wallpaper will resize itself and looks perfect.

Setting wallpapers

Alright so ever since I flashed back to stock to wait for 4.4 update I've noticed that when I try to set a wallpaper it comes out blurry and zoomed in. So my question naturally is how do I work around that, with CM it wasn't a problem because the wallpaper cropping's different.
Album however does that weirdly and it comes out looking like I have a low res wallpaper when it's actually 2k/4k wallpaper.
Also setting wallpapers using a different apps screws it up because as soon as I press home it goes haywire and crops it again.

It sucks that Sony didn't do something to get a better way to handle wallpapers. Anyways, set up your wallpaper using this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jpcxc.wallpaper it won't crop it and it will look wonderful, it's the same app i use on my tablet to set up my wallpapers.
Cheers.

Forced zoom on wallpaper on homescreen

Hi all,
Is this new to Samsung? I had the Note 4 previously but it didn't have this issue where by when you set the wallpaper for both the lock screen and homescreen, the crop on the lock screen is exactly the dimension you have set but on the homescreen it is zoomed in.

This is because the S6 detects small up and down motions when using the phone and moves the home screen wallpaper up and down to make it look like your view is changing. Fun little gimmick. Not sure what its effect is on battery life, but I've found no way to turn it off. But it does mean it has to crop the home wallpaper.

I've seen on here that some people's accelerators have malfunctioned. Does your screen rotate properly when it's supposed to? If not, it may be an accelerator issue.

Hmm that's weird, I tested my phone apps and the accelerators are fine. Apps switched orientation as they are supposed to and snappy, but I still don't see any tilting of the wallpaper according to how I tilt the phone.
Not that I want this feature tho XD

Interesting. I wonder if it's carrier-specific. I have Verizon, not sure if other carriers disabled this feature.
Glad your accelerometers work though! :good:
is there a solution to add wallpapers to the S6 without having them zoomed in??? this is really annoying!
I asked this once too, nobody even glanced on my post or tried to help, so I found the solution by myself, just get the app dodol wallpaper maker and try setting a wallpaper using that app, it doesnt crop or zoom anything, the way u set it is they way it will be set on the homescreen, believe me, I notice every little thing on my wallpapers, so naturally, I immediately saw that crop issue, I think it was after the latest big update. Anyway, just try the app.

Hmm thanks for the tip. But I am not satisfied with this. The app just sets an image as live wallpaper. So there is no zoom, but having a service in background that uses 80 MB ram just for a wallpaper is not nice...
But it seems there is no other solution.
You dont need the app to keep the wallpaper, the app itself creates a wallpaper in your Gallery, I think it is in an album under the name Crop, then u just set that wallpaper the normal way, it will not have a zoom, I've tried and it works, you only need that app for the wallpaper crop, it's good that the app saves the wallpapers so that you don't have to use it, try it and tell me if it works.

I think we are talking about two different things. My wallpapers are already cropped to the resolution of the display. But when I set them as wallpaper, they are a little zoomed in. If I take the image from the "crop" dodol folder, and set as wallpaper, it will also have a little zoom...
When I set the same image to lock screen and home screen and unlock my phone, I always see the the home screen image is a little bigger - you dont have this problem???
btw, I am using nova launcher.

I believe it's the same problem, I would put a wallpaper using TouchWiz, and a high quality image (after being cropped and looking good on the preview window) would become pixelated thus I imagine it was being zoomed in, otherwise without zoom I wouldn't be seeing those dots in the middle of my wallpaper, after using dodol to crop the picture and set that one again using TouchWiz there was no deterioration in my wallpaper. I don't think that the picture was the problem, every other picture had the same thing, It's like I lost quality in my pictures, and I intentionally get high quality images to have everything look crisp. I looked over at the webpage you posted, they are talking about the Parallax effect, but for me it made no difference if it was on or off. Maybe not all phones have the same fix, or as you said we may not have the same problem after all, one thing is for sure, Samsung while fixing one thing sometimes breaks another.
