[Q] How to NOT include facebook ppl in contacts? - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

This has become a slight problem for me since getting the LG bluetooth headset.
When using the speak function (like "dial John Doe"), for some reason the dialer is misunderstanding me and gaining access to my facebook contacts' phone numbers and dialing some random person.
Under people app, I do not have facebook contacts added to my phonebook. Really confused on how it is gaining access to facebook contact's numbers...
Any suggestions?

If you go into the facebook app, under settings, under contacts sync, what do you have checked off? Make sure "all" isn't checked.

I had it set to sync existing. Though it seems it is still adding all the contacts to my phone under the facebook label. I thought sync existing only added those that I already had in my gmail. It seems its all or nothing....?

Contacts Issue: please help

For some reason, all people I email ends up in my contacts. Even if I emailed them just once and not even from the phone. This never happened on my Nexus One... Any ideas? Thanks.
Go to contacts, menu, display options, select only show contacts with phone numbers.

Ok but what if I have some contacts that are only email addresses. It seems the phone is getting contacts from within gmail's "all contacts" instead of "my contacts"
The only thing you can do is stop synching your gmail contacts.
This has happened on every android phone I've owned since the G1. Google remembers anyone you send an email to and it becomes part of your address book, even if it's not on your list of contacts. To show this, open up gmail in on a PC and type the first couple chars of that email address and it will pop right up.
I know what you're talking about but it didn't happen when I was running cyanogen or kangorama on my nexus one. Maybe it has something to do with Samsungs contact app instead of stock, I don't know...
nope same thing happened to me, i just deleted and move on though...
this is so annoying. Every android phone I have had syncs with 'My Contacts' (G1 and Nexus)...but the Vibrant syncs with 'All Contacts'...I haven't found a fix yet, or a good work around.

In the gmail web portal setting there is an option to turn that off. I remember seeing it just three other day.

I remember the days of the G1, when I had a separate "phone" list setup in google contacts, and I could display ONLY those contacts. Some numbers I do want to keep in google contacts, but only some I want to pop up when making a call.
Why did they change the contacts stuff so much? Does anyone else find this annoying?
any solution to this?
Beside this, can it show the actual group I put in the Google contact rather in the same group "Google"

Facebook contacts

I entered in my Facebook account and it started uploading all my friends and added like 700 more contacts. Certainly didn't want that so I unchecked all the contacts stuffed went into people and unchecked Facebook there. I they all went away however when I am picking a contact when I start a message it shows all of the Facebook numbers again. I it did the same thing on my girlfriends rhyme as well and she'd like a solution too. Thanks in advance

Google+ is part of your Google Account. All of your cantacts are synced together under that account. There is no way to separate it, even if you didn't have G+ on the phone.

You entered your Facebook account info into your phone, and it started uploading your contacts to Facebook? Did you mean downloading your Facebook contacts to your phone? Yes, it does that. The People app in Sense loves to suck in ALL your contacts and combine them (it calls it "linking" and you can see what contacts it has linked for you in the Settings menu.) The Messages app pulls from that same database, and I couldn't find a way to restrict it either.
Have you tried Settings -> Accounts and Sync -> Facebook and uncheck "Contacts?" You may have to remove the account entirely, uncheck auto-sync long enough to get the account added, and then uncheck the Contacts box. Just a guess, I haven't tried it.
Yeah that didn't stop it from appearing when I would view contacts through a new text. I just completely removed the account seems fine now.

Hrm my Facebook only synced with my existing contacts - it's an option in the Facebook app
Also I have like 9000 people on Google+ but they aren't in my phone either....
not sure what you guys are doing to get them all
I don't have 9,000 people on G+ because I am not a whore, lol. But, there are options in both the apps and contacts to only sync with existing contacts, only add people with numbers, etc...
If you have 9,000 friends on G+ they are not your friends. I have been on since day 0 and have slightly over 100 people I know in real life
Apparently there's a big Facebook app update today so hopefully that helps.

G+ is more like Twitter for me, I follow people I don't consider "friends" simply because I want to read what they have to say. I have a separate circle for real Friends (capital-F!)
Anyway, the person who was complaining about G+ contacts showing on his phone may have been noticing them in Talk, because the Big G just decided to default all your G+ circles into Talk contacts unless you go in and deselect them. I don't think there's any way to integrate G+ into your phone contacts.
My G+ contacts are linked with their various phone contacts. But of course, all of my contacts have been backed up to Google and GMail since before Android even existed.

They're linked with existing contacts, yeah. But I don't know if it imports from Google+ contact info for non-local or non-Google people. In other words, if the only place you've got info for someone is a Google+ circle, I think that's where they'll stay. Once you send them an email, though, if your GMail account is set to auto-add to contacts, it'll offer you the chance to link the G+ contact and the Google contact.
This seems like it makes sense to me, because the people I have in my G+ circles that I don't have any other contact info for do NOT show up on my phone or in GMail.

[Q] Facebook sync issue

Hi guys,
The question is actually for my lucky girlfriend who just got a GSIII... I'm jealous as hell, i think she just bought it to piss me off^^
Anyway, she got some problems to sync her facebook contacts. What's actually not working is that she can't do but sync and display all of them in her contact list. When you sync the facebook contacts, there is an option only sync with the "existing contacts" or even after in the settings you can choose not to display the others... but it won't do, it will always sync them all and makes it annoying to have idk how many hundreds people in your phone contact list...
any idea?
Thank you all!
i have got that problem too. thats why i just select 'never sync with contacts'
yep, but then you loose all the synced pictures... that's annoying too^^ that's for me the only good think facebook brings: pictures for almost all contacts

This happens to me also. A workaround is by selecting "no sync" and use a 3rd party facebook sync app. BTW I use Haxsync, which not only syncs pics (quality of pic is way better than the FB app itself), but also syncs timeline and events/birthdays...check it out...:good:
Menu button > Contacts to Display > customized list

+1 for Haxsync, much better than Facebooks own sync, even higher quality pics.

Duplicate Contacts

For the second time in two days im having issues with contacts.
My exchange contacts (hotmail) double up and loose there connections (facebook, linkedin etc) and the only way i can find to get them back to normal and restore the connections is to remove and add the account back in.
Has anyone seen this before?
where can i start for resolving this?
I know there's a setting that will alow you to show contacts from one source only hence hiding the other contacts duplicate but I can't remember where.
Merge them with Google....will that not get rid of duplicates.
that option is there in the contacts menu.
if your on MiUi it will just say Merge contacts......
There isn't duplicates in another account it's litteraly showing the exchange ones twice.

I am having the same issue but just from a different source... The phone shows my Google contacts (which is what I want) and also shows my 'phone' contacts, because the idiot at Verizon make backup sync my contacts. So suddenly I have 70 something contacts that I no longer use. There doesn't seem to be a way to 'delete' the phone contacts and just display the Google contacts, although I have disabled the verizon apps..
Any thoughts?
The contacts I have are only in one place and only appear once to any other app. Occasionally contacts doubles them up. Disconnect and reconnect account works for me. But why does it keep happening?

People Widget Contact Pic Help!

Most of my favorites I display on my people widget are linked between my google contacts and facebook profiles. No matter how many times I change them to display the google contact pic, it always changes back to their facebook profile pic after a little while.
Searched high and low with no luck. Have had the problem with stock rooted and mean-rom.
Any ideas?
I've had to go into each "favorite" contact and manually change them from facebook picture to google picture of the contact.

Yep, I've done that at least a dozen times, but It will revert back to the facebook pic. Let know if it stays for you.
I can't isolate the problem either. It seems to keep it on restart. I will even keep it when I restart sense.
My thinking is the facebook sync is overriding my settings, but I dont' know how to stop it from overriding. I still want all of my other contact to sync up...
Haxsync, sync contacts then manually select the contacts you don't want to update and turn off Facebook syncing.

Works great, thanks.
According to the settings, it doesn't look like it would do what I want. But I installed it a few days ago, and everything now works how I like it to.
