@Gluove ... As far as I know...Sony is/was the only company that actively participated with the developers in bringing out a stable ICS versions...It mostly because of them that we have so many Roms flying around...choose any one of the top five Rom threads and install any one of them...I don't think you will have issues like you mentioned here..but then again looking at your frustrated post...i am sure you'll come back with even more problems than you have mentioned...lol...a bit mean here.. but then you did call Sony morons! To be fair to you, its quite possible that you got a faulty hardware on your phone..If you are still on the warranty period...replicate these problems and the Sony "morons" should help you out. However to voice your frustration and to deem the phone model and the company as worst...well my friend..you are pretty much alone there..:silly:

Yep instead of whinging do a repair with pcc or sues, if errors persist return to vendor. Simple.
Whereas running to a development community for the above device and proclaiming it ##### shows that quite clearly most of your issues begin before the touchscreen.
Also your previous posts imply that you've at least read about and possibly tried, tampering with your kernel and iemi number so no real surprises

i dont know what made the OP say that SONY is a bunch of [email protected]#$% or #$%^
i am using neo V since last November & it is pretty good for what its worth, try and ask HTC/Samsung to give you an upgrade, HDMI with a cable, Gold Plated point..... even today they are waiting for an ICS upgrade for a few of HTC models which were promised but never delivered....
my personal opinion of Sony,
i have a vaio notebook - using it for a few years, when there was some problem with the model globally - it was repaired for free
my PS2 & PS3 give me the gaming experience that i crave for
Sony Digicam, Walkman have all been good for me
i wont say much for the phone, the others here have already said enough
it may be like an off-topic since i mentioned about other Sony devices, but it is just not fair of a person who cannot accept what is available neither can tweak things to suit his needs to call names for a brand like Sony
SONY
make.believe :highfive: :victory:

Really man, what is wrong with you?
You just seem to do everything in a hurry and then mess it up and put all the blame on Sony!
As far as I know Sony is the most customer friendly mobile company!
Tell me something, which company rolled out their ICS updates on time.. No one! Only Sony did!
You should be at least happy with the fact that you are being provided with the official update from them!
As far Neo goes.. I don't see any other phone in this price range that can match up to the standards of Neo..
Rather than just bashing up the brand for no reason whatsoever, try to look out other posts in xda.. There are complete tutorials, from A- Z everything you need!

Xperia Devices Dev Support??

Hi Guys,
Sony is flooding the market with Xperia line, so many phones already released:
Launched
Xperia S
Xperia P
Xperia U
Xperia Sola
Xperia ION
Upcoming:
Xperia Acrp S
Xperia Go
Xperia GXi
Xperia SXi
Rumoured
Lotus
Tropioca
Mint
XYZ
DO YOU THINK WE CAN GET BETTER DEV SUPPORT?
Of course it will get better...
People need to actually own the phones first, and our current developers are doing what they can without even owning the devices. Give it time, it will come.
Most of the phones you listed as released aren't even out for all that long..neither do they have their own forums (for lack of owners/need for a section), give it time. If that doesn't work for you, you could always learn to develop/modify/etc yourself .
I am working for Xperia S, U, P & Sola at the moment, it takes a lot of time to get development started on new phones with brand new CPU's etc
Just give us devs some time

I think u took it wrong way, we are blaming Sony, not XDA !!
Sony should make ONE or TWO perfect device in a year with all ideas going into these sets, not like:
1. ohh let put transparent bar here
2. Ohh we can make it glow
3. Now we can have color changing bar.
4. Put this in plastic.
5. Make this out of Alumunium.
6. Reduce cam MP here.
7. Increase cam MP there.
What rubbish !!!!!
from xperia PLAY
I completely agree. I have been trawling the Sony site for a dev forum, wiki, anything for help with their 2012 line. Nothing. A few developer docs for (discontinued?) devices.
I did find a useful doc on LiveWare and creating plugins for it, but it only scratches the surface.
I also downloaded the source code for the Xperia S, but it has almost nothing I want in it. I want to see what intents LiveWare can accept (beyond the basic documentation), I want to see how the TV Launcher can be activated. Nothing. For a company that is trying so hard to be dev friendly, they fail pretty much completely. A simple dev forum would be enough.
On an aside, does anyone know how to enable dock mode on the Xperia S, or simulate a HDMI connection in software? These two tasks have been doing my head in for weeks.
Cheers

I don't really get why people keep saying that ICS on Neo/V is a complete failure, I mean, so far I haven't had a single problem with it (I've used stock/CM9/AOKP and currently using JJDoctor's Hybrid which is based on stock).
No offense but I think most people don't even try to make their phone better in any way, just wanting a one click "give me everything and then some" solution, which of course won't really help much, if at all.
I currently run my Neo underclocked (268 - 800 Mhz) and everything is silky smooth, but I think the most vital change that people should do is lose the Sony crap (launcher, music, sms app), I've been using Sony phones since 2010 (X10 Mini > X10 > Neo and a friend's Play) and so far I haven't had a single complaint, mind you my phone is also used by my girlfriend, parents, brother, etc. I also used a Galaxy Ace for a few months and that REALLY was a piece of ****, it rebooted about 4 times a day on stock Samsung ROM.
Before saying something as violent as that, you should invest more time actually TRYING to make your phone better (god knows I've seen a lot of init.d scripts).
Also, most optimizations are almost universal to Android, most init.d scripts present on the ROMs you mentioned have been working since FroYo, others are standard Linux optimizations that would work exactly the same on Jellybean.
Last but not least, the differences between ICS and Jellybean are performance based, so Jellybean could actually run better on our phones that ICS.
I know this sounds like trolling but people, please read some more before commenting!!

I highly doubt it, but that's why XDA exists!
That triple buffered 60fps interface looks cool but i doubt our devices have enough ram to handle it.

C'mon Man, 512MB Ram is not any less to handle 60fps, compare it with Apple 4 or any reasonable Windows Phone. when they create a code for smooth graphics, why do Android required more Ram ?
Should i remind you guys that even the Nexus S is getting JB? It has basically the same specs as the Neo, but on a more dated SoC.

When it comes to OS updates specs don't really matter to manufacturers, what matters is making a lot of money, also most system updates are held back by carriers, not manufacturers.
There's a pretty knowledgeable account of this here and in the comments.
Biggest question is:
Comes it official to our Neo/Neo V??

If you look at recent history, SE abandoned the X10 on Eclair until user feedback was bad enough to force them to do the GB update, so it's not that far-fetched to think that Sony will abandon the Xperia 2011 line claiming something about hardware compatibility or some other insane ass thing in order not to update.
Hopefully our extremely knowledgeable devs will find a way to port it to our devices, who knows, maybe some sort of CM10 or AOKP port.
why posting this if Sony not releasing it for us Xperia Neo and Neo V users.

I hope Sony doesn't further delay ICS (it was supposed to be released by now per Sony's schedule, but delayed for the end of July) because of JB, I want 4.x ASAP.

they cant afford to miss ics i would suggeest as the phone has so many problems in its current state i.e software bugs and call/network dropping. If they dont sort these quickly then nobody will care about jellybean as they will have got rid of the phone by the time that happens. Im on the verge of this now...at the end of the day it has to function as a reliable phone and at the moment its not.
It most certainly is on it's most current released firmware, B.1.564. You can downgrade back to it, B.3.162 was pulled and you should not be using it.

so what am i missing here then?
so they brought the phone out, then released an update for it to solve what?....and then realised that actually it created more problems than it solved and then pulled it?.....where have they then come out and said that you should roll back and put the original firmware back on it?
seems to be very few forums for the xperia p anywhere so ive not come across much information about how this problem is being fixed. Would appreciate any links or info you have though as i really want to give this phone a chance but its being let down terribly at the moment.
Already explained here. I suggest reading the stickies in order to familiarize yourself with Flashtool and for other useful information regarding the NXT line.

yes you gave me the link etc in the xperia p thread which i thanked you for however my question was around the fact that having released a firmware (.62) in a bid i assume to correct some problems it seems that it actually created more than it solved. You have recommended that i roll back to the earlier build that i have not actually ever had as the phone updated itself within a few mins of having it. I am willing to roll back if you feel this will make the phone more reliabe as a phone however i was interested to know where it had been said by sony that we should do this or where the general discusion on here was about it.

Exactly my point which is why they can't afford to wait until the end of the year. They need to sort it and sort it fast, don't think there has been one solid phone in the xperia range released yet. All have so much potential, fantastic hardware and then ruined by shoddy software.

You're definitely getting it sooner or later.
I'm guessing ICS in late July or early August, and JB somewhere in Q4 2012.
Though the sooner we get ICS and Sony releases it's kernel sources, the better... I'd like to see some custom ROMs floating around, especially FreeXperia's CM for the P.
ICS is on the way right now as we've seen with the Xperia S and other handsets. As for Jellybean, you'll be looking later in the year, if not in the new year. Well, I suspect.

I got this idea from over on the X8 forums and thought it would be a good addition over here aswell. Note to the mods, if there's any reason this thread shouldn't be here, then just get rid of it. Not like you need my permission eh?
New Member? Introduce Yourself
Hey everyone. This initiative is to prevent the creation of a new thread each time a new user to our devices wants to create a thread to say they're a new user and then ask a question which has been asked way too many times. So to keep our forum organized please use this thread to introduce yourself and ask any questions you may have, but not sure whether to make a new thread or not.
Before anything else please introduce yourself so that we could know you as well. Please take some time also to read the FORUM RULES to avoid any trouble and infractions from our moderators.
Let us warmly and nicely welcome our new members
I'll be checking in here regularly and hopefully some other of our more experienced users of this device will do the same. That way, we can all make you feel welcomed and answer any of those questions you may have.
Enjoy your stay and I look forward to speaking to you all.

Firstly thanks for making this thread kidkarter.
I bought my Xperia S last month but to my dismay the phone bricked in two hours. Basically I was updating via pccompanion and a quarter of the way through the installation it stopped. Tried flashing back to GB but could never get past bootloop. Three weeks on and I received the replacement. The phone has it's good and bad but I'm very happy with it...and with the thorough support and development available at XDA! Looking forward to being part of the crew.

I don't really know that much about unlocking BL or rooting and even though my device is rooted, I flashed a pre-rooted rom onto mine that was specific to my device. As I'm not sure if this is available for your device, I would suggest asking in that thread then say after a couple of days if you haven't received a reply, send the OP a little reminder of your post.

Heya Red No problem at all. As I say, I seen it on the X8 forum and thought it would be good over here especially because we have 4 devices all into one section xD
Glad to hear that you've received your replacement I actually manager to brick my SXS within a few hours aswell but mine was just a major noob error by attempting it when I only had 35% battery left. Obviously it ran out mid-update and bricked my device. Luckily it was only a soft brick so I was able to come on here and find a solution to that. That's simply what I love about XDA

Hi im relatively new and only recently active, I have owned an xperia x10 mini pro, neo and s.
Dedicated Sony fan, though I currently have a xoom :S
Been on several forums but xda is a bit hard to get active on as there are so many users and there's not much sense of a community and you don't really get to know people as much
I'd go on to help people but there's like 5000 others who can help before me
Ill lurk around for the years to come

Hey Tej. Welcome to these forums
Sorry I couldn't be of more help
Hi there Will. 2 nice devices you've got there. Treat um nicely and they'll treat you better
Hey Zsolt. It's nice to have you as a part of these forums
Is there not an unofficial way to get ICS onto the Sola? Or would you rather just do it officially?

Hey guys, I thought I'll introduce myself too, just for the sake of it. It's grown into a quite lengthy post, but anyway, here goes.
As a developer
Some of you may know me from the Desire scene, where I worked (the slacking-around-IRC-doing-random-stuff kind of work) on ICS and then switched to maintaining AOKP. I'm quite new to the Sony scene (excuse my using the word 'scene' here, it's just a short way of saying 'developer community' or something), but I'm learning the quirks and we (KeiranFTW, nickholtus, championswimmer and me) have set up a nice little team with the Big Project being bringing vanilla AOKP / KangXperiaProject to all 2012 devices. While waiting for the development to gain traction (and for FreeXperia to release their sources), I've also worked on a little side project - porting AOSP / AOKP to the Asus TF101, where I learned a bit about the new quirks introduced in JellyBean and forward-porting ICS stuff. Some more words on the Big Project: first we wait for the Xperia P to get an official ICS update. Then the plan is to try and build JellyBean for the P, just to see if we can make it work with ICS blobs and kernel sources. If we run into some issues that can't be solved without support / blobs from Sony, we'll fall back to building ICS. The Xperia P goes first in any case, then we'll investigate ways we can share the code with other U8500 devices, and release ICS based on Xperia P stuff for those.
As a user
I have a total of 3.5 Android devices: the HTC Desire, the Asus TF101, the Xperia S and the Nexus 7 (shipping). I've fallen in love with HTC when the N1/Desire series was released, but the following (Desire HD, Sensation, IncS) series disappointed me multiple times, so I turned away from HTC and switched to Sony. When it comes to tablets, I've had a lot of good experience with ASUS in the past (desktop components, laptops, network equipment and most of their products really), so the TF101 and now the Nexus 7 were an obvious choice. I'm also an AOSP fanboy (and a hater of most vendor skins), and my faith in AOSP has grown way stronger when ICS, and then JB were released. I sincerely hope that in the future vendors will stop skinning Android and just provide the hardware, but for now I just use custom ROMs wherever possible. I'm currently running AOKP on both the Desire and the TF101 and Sony's stock with Trebuchet launcher on the XPS.
As a person
I'm a geek when it comes to mobile technologies, Linux, board games, anime and Japanese culture in general, quality sound / music and smart computer games (i.e. not Call of Duty and friends), in no particular order. I enjoy playing and designing games as a hobby, though I've never released anything as a developer and some of the ideas never went further than pen and paper prototypes. I'll go into a bit more detail on that later. I don't like people who are too lazy to actually use their brain and RTFM / search before asking, especially when it comes to questions that have been answered multiple times, though I often don't mind the general / off topic chit chat in release (i.e. not dev) threads.
Mobile technologies
I'm an Android fanboy in a good sense, though I try to stay open minded when it comes to iOS, WP8, B2G and other competing products. I've been very enthusiastic about Meego, Maemo and the idea of a Qt/Linux based mobile operating system that is largely compatible with desktop Linux and now I'm closely following the Plasma Active project and the Vivaldi/Spark tablet for largely the same reasons, though I think Linux on tablets is not quite there yet.
Linux
I've never really 'fanboyed' Linux in terms of thinking that Linux > any other OS like some people do. But it works the best for my tasks, and I'm looking forward to the large community growth that is going to happen after Windows 8 is released, as it's going to be a change too big for many people, and the big release of Steam that is hopefully to remedy one of people's most common complaints - gaming. I currently run Arch Linux testing / community-testing / kde-unstable / AUR VCS packages, which is about as unstable as Arch can possibly get, but it somehow works for me.
Board games
I don't like TCG's and other 'collecting' games (except for Warhammer, I enjoy playing it even though I don't have an army of my own), I prefer games that are fun to play with friends and don't take a lot of time and rule reading because you can get more people in, especially those who never played it before. My personal favourites are Risk, Munchkin and (since recently) Cards Against Humanity.
Anime
I love good anime (faves: SE: Lain, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Spice and Wolf, Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu, Soul Eater, Steins;Gate), know about the existence of Japanese music and don't think jRPGs are long and overcomplicated, which already makes me an otaku for some people, though I don't consider myself one.
Quality sound / music
I don't have any specific genre of music I prefer over the rest, there's a special 'Music that I like' genre which includes music that I like. Most common last.fm tags in my library are metal, anime and post rock, if that matters. I also have a weird sense of 'how stuff should sound' that usually involves good headphones and often doesn't have too much in common to how the original performer intended it to sound. I currently use Sony V6 headphones with the Xperia S, my laptop (ASUS N55, Realtek ALC883) or my old Creative Zen player.
Smart computer games
This includes games that actually make you think about what you're doing or about some other matters that exist outside the game world. This includes many indie games (LIMBO, Braid) and excludes most AAA titles (Call of Duty series). I also enjoy hardcore RPGs with as many choices as possible both in the script and in character development. The upcoming games on my wishlist are Torchlight 2, Borderlands 2 (those are not very 'smart', I know, but the originals were really fun, and sometimes it's all that matters), 0x10c, Dishonored, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 (if it's actually developed by Bethesda now) and some other less known projects like Defense Grid. I currently play Skyrim with a bunch of mods, Minecraft with a bunch of friends and re-enjoying Final Fantasy X on my PS2 (which is the only console I own now, and likely the only one I'll own ever).
Whoo, that's been one hell of a long post. Anyway, enjoy and feel free to ask if you have any questions, whether they are dev related or not
P.S. Please, please, don't quote this whole post. If you want to highlight something, remove the rest of the quote.

It's a fun story really. I saw the eight-way lock screen on Virtuous Wossname on a friend's DHD and I wanted to have that on my Desire. So I just went ahead, read the docs and built it from Evervolv's tree. I had some experience with random Linux hacking, so I knew my way around makefiles and git, so I got the code together, built it and thought I'll just throw it out there for anyone who wants it. I did and it all kind of snowballed on me.
I thought I might introduce myself too
My first Android powered phone was a HTC Wildfire, which I couldn't flash anything on till about a month after getting it because of HTC and their stupid S-ON bootloader lock. At the time I had to wait for AlphaRev X (a.k.a Revolutionary as it is called now) so I could "unlock" my bootloader and install a custom recovery. This was back in November 2011, and I didn't even know what a kernel was then, you could say I was a noob back then, except I actually knew what the search function is for.
On this, I flashed CyanogenMod 7, and forgot about it, until ICS source code was released (around November) and I didn't know how to build from source so I started learning, helped port from another phone (Droid Eris) and fixed the touchscreen driver in the kernel to get a half working ROM. Unfortunately the Wildfire didn't have a GPU and so support for it was dropped by CM in ICS and that is probably not a bad idea considering the last HTC release was 2.2.1 (Froyo).
I then bought an Xperia PLAY, and started tinkering with development, created a few ROM's based of the stock Sony OTA's, then a few more kernels. But I still wanted to learn to build AOSP from source.
So, I learned how to compile, and how to fix compilation errors, and all that. Then I waited for FreeXperia to release CM9, and they did. It had a few problems though, they were using kernel sources for Arc S ICS beta not meant for the Play, so deep sleep was broken and so was hardware acceleration. So, I got the newer Sony kernel sources meant for the Play for the ICS beta, and rebased their stuff on top of it, added a few optimisations such as zRam and tweaks, and then released it.
Then, one day I had a personal message from FXP asking me where my kernel sources are so he can track them. We had a short conversation and I started working with Jerpelea and the FXP team. I fixed a few things here and there into CM, but nothing major.
I stopped working with FreeXperia after as I didn't agree with some of the rules set in place by the CM team for people developing on CM (I didn't get told them all, you have to be part of the CM team for that) and so I started to lean to AOKP.
Sony then released the Xperia U, and it didn't pick up much developer interest in these forums, there was no recovery. I wanted to develop for the Xperia U, and with FXP confirming CM support on it, I wanted to bring AOSP/AOKP onto it, so I talked with K900 who maintains HTC Desire in AOKP, and we decided to form a team, me, nickholtus, K900 and championswimmer. It is the AOKP Xperia Project.
Then we made recovery (after several attempts (documentation == null)) for the P, U and Sola.
Then the community helped raise funds so I could get an Xperia U (which is awesome btw)
And, now I am here posting on this thread.
Sorry if my English is bad here, I am not used to writing this much
PS: If you want to contribute to AOKP Xperia Project, look here: https://github.com/AOKPXperia, pull requests are welcomed. If you would like to join the team, show us what you got and what you can do.

Regarding The Upcoming ICS update ....

well a couple of weeks ago i asked this question and i was comparing things between some devices and thank you guys you helped me figure a lot of things out and i finally decided that iam getting the atrix 4g no doubt it's an awesome super powerful phone but how bad is it to buy an outdated phone " almost 1.5 years old " ? and i also wanted to know if there is any chance that Motorola will abandon releasing the ics update ? !! beacuse as bad as i wanna wait for the update to come out before i buy the device i can't soo if you told me that it's 100% sure the the update is coming out iam buying the phone next week ... and some thing ealse i wanted to clarify i read on the motorolla website that the update coming in Q3 2012 is just for at&t and i live in egypt so obviously there is no at&t here and from what i understand i won't be able to update OTA and i just wanted to know what will be the availlable options for me then to update rather than waitng for the international update which has no specified date yet ? !!! and something more does the Atrix 4g has any common hardware problems as i'll be bootloader unlocking my phone maybe 2 weeks after i get it ( i mean because of voiding the warranty and this stuff ) ?
and thank i guys again in advance u rock :good:
You need to search around a bit more next time. These answers are relatively easy to find:
-I think the general consensus is that people here are happy with their phones but if you can spend more to get a phone with better specs, not potentially have a problem buying an Atrix with a locked bootloader, not have to deal with a company like nvidia, etc. then you might want to look elsewhere.
-There is NO proof that Motorola WON'T release ICS. There are still several other phones that fall in the Q3 schedule that also haven't been updated and we're still in Q3. Even if there's a small chance it won't be released, there's still the chance that drivers from other phones can be used to stabilize an Atrix rom.
-If you're already talking about unlocking the bootloader then you should know by now that OTA is completely irrelevant. You can flash the update as you would any other rom.
-Digitizer and wifi/bluetooth issues seem to be the biggest hardware problems. Unlocking a bootloader on any phone will void the warranty, but it's been the experience of many people that Motorola will still repair phones under warranty anyway. Every you decision you make, from buying a phone to crossing the street, is at your own risk.

Firstly thank you and i agree with you "You need to search around a bit more next time. These answers are relatively easy to find"
you are right most of my previous questions could be solved be googling it but the reason why i ask these questions is because i want an experience based answers because most of the times there is an indirect ways to do things .
- can u please explain what do u mean by " u don't have to deal with a company like nvidia " does nvidia suck this much ? !! and excuse me if i asked u to tell me what is the things that u hate the most or u see this phone lacks ? " hardware, software, community stuff, even support" and thank you so much :good:

If you still not buy the Atrix yet, then you still have a good choice to buy Galaxy Nexus, S2, Notes for your work smoothly.
ROM update is the most important part of Android OS. Try to google more and you can find out the real fact behind smile face of people here.:silly:

The common belief is that nvidia is the one holding up the drivers for Moto to use for ICS.
You'll probably find a few other threads (in fact, there's another one right on this page) where people will compare phone XYZ to the Atrix so you can see the benefits and disadvantages. It all depends on which specific phone you're comparing, as well as what exactly you need from your phone. Like anything else, this phone has several things few or no other phones have but also might fall short (screen, processor speed, etc.) in others. It's up to you to figure out what you need.
The good thing is that this community is surprisingly active, even for a phone that came out last year.
I'm not gonna quote all of that, but once AT&T releases ICS then EVERYONE will have it on CM9/10.
We only want ICS for the drivers to put into CM, and other custom ROMS. Trust me nobody here wants stock bloat...

I have Epinter's unofficial CM10 running on my Atrix 4G, the only reason I'm still anticipating the official ICS update is for the driver developers can use to get hardware acceleration working on CM10 :crying:
