Associate sideloaded apk's with the Play Store for updating? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey,
So I sideloaded a geo-restricted app (Sky Sports Football) because it isn't available in my country (US). As to why that is...I have no clue since it's free. Anyway, I am wondering if there is any way to make the Play Store recognize that the app is installed (bypassing the geo-restriction check) and have it continue to check for updates.
I am hoping this is possible since when I install apps from a TiBu backup, the Play Store has no problem seeing them. TiBu seems to have an option to detach apps from the Market...but I want to do the reverse=/ Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

You could use market enabler. Titanium backup also has the feature to attach apps to the market.

I'm trying it on my Nexus 7 and Market Enabler looked really bad...I don't know if it's compatible with JB yet and I don't want to mess anything up. I guess I could just make a quick nandroid before trying...
Also where in TiBu is that setting? The only option related to the market is to detach (as opposed to attaching).

Go to the list of apps, long press one and you should see "Attach to market (forced)".

Well, I found the attach option but it doesn't seem to have worked I emailed the TiBu devs so we'll see. Thanks for the info though!

I would recommend trying out an app called play legacy. It is an old version of the play store that can be installed along side the actual play store. I have Google wallet installed, and I am on Verizon, where it is blocked from the regular play store. I can open play legacy, and it will see when there is an update available, and let's me update just fine.
Not sure if it will work with other countries apps, but it is worth a try I would think.

[FIX/ HOW-TO] Detach App from Market to Enable Purchase

Archer posted an easier solution a few post down, to this problem.

Nice find - a lot of people have been complaining about this problem recently.
For anyone who doesn't want to do the above, simply copy and paste this code into the address bar when you're on the relevant Google Play page...
Code:
javascript:document.getElementsByClassName("buy-link")[0].setAttribute("data-ispurchased", false)
You could create a bookmark of that if you expect to need it often.

Old Method:
Prerequisites : Desktop/Laptop computer Browser with ability to "inspect element"
Must have a valid credit card and a registered wallet account for this to work
And must be able to follow directions
Thank - jollyb for Finding/Translating THIS fix he found on a croatian forum.
1. Open Google play (Market) in Chrome browser (on your desktop/laptop) and find the wanted app (best would be that you backup the app via Ttitanium backup if you can, and uninstall it)
2. 'Right-Click' on "PURCHASED and select Inspect element
3. Above the selected row you'll see [data-ispurchased="true"]
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
4. Change "true" to "false" and press ENTER
(Having problems with downloading another app? Change the inspect element back to "true", app should start downloading now)
5. Click PURCHASED that will open the popup to buy via Google Wallet so you can purchase the app.
Tested on Google Chrome browser, please post if you've had success with/on different browsers.

People who have downloaded apps from Amazon app store for the free app of the day, and now since the Android Market has been updated to the Play Store, alot of those amazon apps are showing as purchased in Play Store but aren't downloadable or able to be purchased at all since it's linked to your Google account as I guess a pirated app or something.
MoPhoACTV Initiative
Awesome. I've been wondering how to do this. I traded phones with someone a while back and made a backup of all apps before I wiped the phone and I have been unable to purchase ADW Launcher EX because I restored the backup and then the market said it was purchased already but wouldn't let me download it.
Sent from my MB855 using Tapatalk
I also found that if you uninstall the market updates (temporarily) and go back to the older style market, you can properly purchase them, even if it said "purchased" when using the newer market versions.
The amazon free app a day is a great example of what causes this problem.
Man this is so awsome, it works like a charm and solved many headaches of not being able to update stuff..

I have that as well but it is for apps that were purchased/downloaded from the Amazon App Store which is why they won't update.
Using Firefox on-device, I entered this into the address bar while viewing the product page. 'Purchased' didn't change to the price, but clicking 'Purchased' did allow me to complete the purchase as per usual just the same though.

And if you guys wanna just get rid of the "Purchased" status on the Play Store you can perform the topic's workaround (buying the app) from your pc and then while it's downloading on your phone you can cancel the process and press the "Refund" button.
You can even keep the sideloaded app installed on your phone!
This way you'll have the app set to the "right status"
Cheers!

Google Play Store (Android Market) v3.5.15
Requirements: Android v2.2+
Overview: Play Anywhere, All your entertainment in one place, Google Play is your one-stop shop for all your favorite entertainment.
ChangeLog:
- You now have the Installed and All tabs you can swipe between. The former one is what we used to have before - it lists all apps installed on your device. The latter lists all apps you've ever installed in case you want to download them again or travel down the memory lane. This is quite handy, and I've seen this list before in the Play Store on the web, so it's great to get it here in the mobile app.
- The All tab contains a handy dropdown with all your accounts (if you added more than one) and lets you switch between them very easily (as opposed to clicking Menu, etc).
- The list of apps you have purchased but uninstalled or haven't installed yet has moved to the All tab... which means it's now mixed in with the free apps you no longer have on the device. I'm not sure how I feel about that - on one hand, I like that it's gone from the first list, but ideally there should be a way to filter paid apps from free in the All list. Maybe someday...
- A few of the stock apps that apparently never got linked to the Play Store before got identified and picked up this time, and updates to such orphans were waiting for me when I fired the Store up. I've complained about this very bug in my last rant, and it looks like someone listened.
- Just like in the web Play Store:
# reviews now show the device used by the reviewer
# reviews can now be sorted by Most Helpful first or Newest first
# you can now filter reviews to show ones for the latest version of the app as well as made by only the device you are using

Since when has it been like this? Seems like something must have happened, but we don't know what...
You could always trying clearing the app's data and cache, if it still shows up in the app list (as nooomoto said, under settings, manage apps). Or restoring from a TiBu if you're rooted and have a backup.
Well I tried uninstalling com vending... Bad idea. Now when I click on what used to be the Play Store it says I've uninstalled it... But com vending still shows up in manage apps...
How could this happen, I don't even have root.
I guess I'll have to root and install GAPPS.
I would try checking install unknown sources and install the latest play store from the web.

You meant the "Phone" icon?
Remove that icon on your bottom right of yr home screen first, then go into App Drawer and see if Play icon is there or not.
Try installing this older version of the market. Make sure u have unknown sources checked off.
It should update back to play store after the first time u go into it.

Looking over your shoulder...
Does it work if you use it from the app drawer?
I've seen that occasionally, if you have a launcher homescreen icon, the update fubars it - but if you delete it and place it back from the app drawer it's fine.

Thanks for the link. It installed fine. However, after accepting license agreement the Market loading icon freezes and vending crashes. I tried clearing Market data...same problem. The icon in the drawer also says Play Store. Which is weird because it is not the play store icon but a faded icon with an SD card on it.
Different phone, same topic - Google Play Store.
Noobish question:
I downloaded vending.apk from here at XDA
Installed it over my stock Android Market v2.3.3
With the old Android Market, it showed in Settings>Applications as "Market"
Since manually updating to Google Play Store:
now when I go into Settings>Applications
It is showing as "Com.android.vending..."
Is this normal?
Shouldn't it show as "Google Play Store" or something like that?
---------- Post added at 02:57 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:01 AM ----------
{Fixed} Disregard above question.
Just goes to show ya how useful XDA Search button can be.
From another thread I got the simple idea to clear the process's cache and stored data, reboot phone ... tadda ... now Settings > Applications is showing Google Play Store.
Google Play icon, widget, updating functions - all available and working.
Thanks to all the hard workin' folks here at XDA
Maybe something in the Dalvik cache is causing problems? In /data/dalvik-cache I see [email protected]@[email protected]
Can you clear the cache through the stock recovery menu? It's been so long since then, that I've forgotten.
In a (sort of) related note- my Google Play experience was that an expired credit card was causing RPC errors when attempting purchase books. I had to go into google wallet and delete the expired card (thanks to the Google support ticket team for the solution), now all is well.
Anyway, hope this helps,
AoN

Google Play incompatible app

I'm rather annoyed that there are many apps that come up as NOT COMPATIBLE in the play store on the G3. Ive been dealing with this issue for some time now on my Nexus 7. How does a device by google, not run all google play apps? (referring to the Nexus). Is there a way to trick the play store into showing me all apps? Now i've tried the xposed module play store fixes but it doesn't do what I thought it would. One example would be the My Disney Experience app. I was able to get the apk from a disney boards site, but I can't get it straight from google play. Now that I have the apk installed, google play says there is an update for it, but can't get the update. I know it's supposed to be due the QHD screen and all, but the app works fine. Other than trying to hunt down the apks for these apps and sideloading....is there a way to trick the play store into thinking my phone is another device so I can actually install some of the apps I used to use?
What apps? I have a ton and they all are compatible.

I just checked and it says "your device isn't compatible with this version". And I think the point the op is trying to make is why are certain apps not compatible with our device in general. Of course we can sideload them or directly install apks but why are they not compatible within the play store without fooling it.

Market Helper isn't working for me either.
Disney app sideload did work though.
Edit:Market Helper did change play store but I had to reboot. Market helper specifically says no reboot needed. Is there a newer app that does the same thing?
I've been looking around for why the google news and weather app is not compatible (Only on the International version. AT&T ROMS run it fine). It will install, but flash incompatible on first run.
The reason (I am reasonably sure now) is that not all apps support QHD and if display type is specified in the apk, then it will show as an incompatible app. If display types are not specified, then the app will run.

Can't find apps in Playstore. VS996

I am having a hard time finding apps in the Play Store (Example: Pinterest) and was wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same? I've tried all of googles troubleshooting steps including deleting cache and uninstalling updates. Signing out and back into google, along with a reset under settings. LG told me that I would have to send my phone in to check for hardware problems.
I can find the apps when I google search them. When I click the information tile to install, a blank window appears saying "Retry". When it goes to open the app in the play store from google search, it says "This device is not compatible with this version". But if I go to search and download the APK from a mirror site with the same version number it installs fine. So I can still access the apps, it's just very tedious.

Nope, the most I've messed with as far as settings go is animation scaling. I went to look for Pinterest again in the app store and it's there with an update.... But I still can't download Groupon, Tinder and a few others yet. Could it be the apps don't support the V30 screen ratio yet or? I'm a noob when it comes to all of this, it's been like this though since I first got it in October. Kind of annoying that it works when I finally ask someone. Thanks for the quick reply!

Yeah I guess I will just have to keep checking back for either updates to the app or to see if more apps eventually pop up. I'm really enjoying the phone otherwise and don't wanna wait the two weeks for them to look it over and tell me that I just have to wait for an update. I've updated to the most recent Google play store app via mirror site. So we shall see, thanks again for your help! :good:

Before now, were you using a Google Play app from a mirror site?
If so, the mirror site apk may be your problem. Those are usually coded for either specific DPI or "all", which may not be what our phones require.
Just throwing out ideas...

I had to force a manual update of the play store! The apps are now there. I had downloaded the play store from a mirror and used it to see if that would work. When it didn't, I reset my play store as suggested in the google trouble shooting settings. But the store is updating now and all apps that weren't appearing, now are! Here's what it was on before, and what it updated too. IDK why a forced time and date update didn't jumpstart it but oh well it's fixed haha.
