S Note app for htc flyer - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

hi all
i just saw clips of the much talked about galaxy note 10.1 with a s pen.
well my flyer can do the same tricks except the part where i think htc forgot to put some pen compatible handwriting recognition apps in it. one engineer may have been booted due to this, but i dont know.
what interests me is the S Note app that samsung specially made for the note. i humbly request the devs and the gurus to see if it can be ported to the flier. would really want to use it as my flier currently runs on the other notes app from the lenovo tablet but i cant export entire notes from it.
would be willing to donate to the worthy cause.
regards
saneem

i doubt it.
the app seems highly integrated into the multiframe based desktop. and functions part of that is required for the app and its binaries to work. so this is probably not going to be ported as standalone.

the Photoshop touch app does work, so i tested right now while playing with the rom.
crayon physics work too (childrens game)

Thank you very much for the infor...
I am using the flyer for my daily diary and work related stuff and since it can fit right into my Coat pocket, the IPAD owners dont really feel comfortable around me. the Best thing is the pen, but the lenovo app ported has its limitations in exporting the text and so i sometimes feel discouraged.
I remember WM2003, the notes app and the word app in my IPAQ both converted to handwriting to text and that allowed me to do substantial documents in my hand. Wish the IPAQs lasted.
i am still offering to contribute to any person who can build such an app...
Appreciate your replies...

I was wondering about S-note myself. I have the Galaxy Note 10.1 and I'm actually leary of using it because it probably can't be ported off the Note. Samsung doesn't have a good track record of keeping their devices updated and I'm afraid to put my notes in it and be trapped to one device or even one platform.
I'm looking for something more universal, that would work on any Android tablet, not just the Note.

If you want to use handwriting recognition for Flyer/Android, there is an app called WritePad. It's ok.

Drawing / Sketching App for Flyer

Hi to all Flyer users,
I am writing this message because despite the fact that I love my Flyer and use it 24/7, I am still not using it for the very first reason that I bought it, to replace my big old tablet PC, for sketches.
When HTC announced the HTC Dev with the Scribe API not so long ago, I was very excited and I thought that we Flyer users would at last have a chance to use it for the main purpose we bought it. But no...
I just wanted to reach out to any coder who is capable of writing an app for the flyer, who understands a word of the coding for the Scribe technology out there. We as artistic Flyer users request an app to let us do sketches and drawings. I don't care at the end how expensive the app will be, because I am pretty sure that the first sketching app made for the Flyer will be bought by many people regardless the price.
If you are a developer who can write such an app, do it soon, because you are going to make lots of money, I'm sure.
I hope nobody finds this message in anyway rude or offensive, it is just that I really want to get full use of my Flyer and since HTC is doing nothing about it so far, XDA community is the only place I know that I can request such a thing.
Thanks to everyone in advance and thanks for understanding.
// I don't if this is even relevant but HTC has uploaded some codes in the HTC Dev website with screenshots of a drawing app, maybe if only those codes are used to make an app //
I feel your pain. I picked up the Flyer for the same reason, unfortunately, it fell short on that one area. The guy that wrote Fresco tried to integrate the pen function, but it hasn't worked.
The good news is, the Honeycomb update supposedly works the same way the finger touch does. Sketchbook Pro supports pressure sensitive pen, I am hoping HTC's pen works in Sketchbook Pro.
I know Fresco and I even tried to help Sean during this process. I respect him for being the only one out there, and doing what HTC is yet to do.
Are you sure that sketchbook has stylus compatibility, pressure sensitivity?
I have just read that the stylus works as a finger does on honeycomb but that does not mean that we will be able to use the pen options (width, pen type, color) still.
Sent from my HTC Flyer P510e using Tapatalk
No, I wasn't sure. I was hoping.
I just flashed Honeycomb myself and tried it for myself. I was not able to find Sketchbook Pro in the market so I tried the Express instead, you may or may not know, it doesn't have that pressure sensitive like the Pro version. Express won't even recognize the strokes. I then tried the Mobile version, this version works fine, but no pressure sensitive option.
So the result is still inconclusive until I actually try the pro version. At least right now I've got a precise pen with better color choices.
I'll still try to figure out how to put SB pro in my new Honeycomb Flyer.
In case you didn't know, Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet pen does have pressure sensitive in SB Pro, and it also use N-Trig pen like the Flyer.
[UPDATE] I had to side load Sketchbook Pro. It doesn't work.

Hi everyone. I thought I'd add my agreement to this thread. I sent a message/request to HTC the other day asking for them to seriously consider doing some collaborative work with a leading company such as Autodesk so the Flyer can be what all of us who bought it for; that we should have access to a drawing/sketching /design app that does the Flyer justice, not just scribbling with 5 colours etc, that the pen api should at least have a colour wheel! I went on to say that the Flyer's market would improve greatly if they allowed the pen to be used to it's full potential...
I really don't get why they would make such a lovely thing but then not bother to finish it off properly... It's like making a really beautiful car and not supplying the wheels or something silly...
Sent from my HTC Flyer P512 using xda premium
The sad fact is that there is just not enough paying demand out there for high end sketch applications. HTC was targeting business users with the pen. Users such as doctors that would prefer a high accuracy interface like a pen vs. the finger for entering larger amounts of data quickly. Of course those markets are demanding and complex and won't tolerate a half finished product like HTC's. Professional users want a turnkey system, not something they have to fiddle with to get to kind-of-work. S0 the Pen on HTC has turned out to be more of a novelty than a useful tool, which is sad because it has great potential and I love it for taking notes.
HTC published the Pen SDK and Android 4.0 has native stylus support primitives so someone could realistically write an application that has pro caliber sketch functions. Probably happen later under 4.0 ICS as a port of an existing app. I just don't see enough demand for someone to write a new app.
Okay. I feel you are being the realist here. I don't know zip about Android (the flyer is my first touchscreen gizmo) and have been a Windows sucker for ever so don't know about Linux either, but how much would you think a developer would want for creating a color wheel for the stock stylus app? At least then we could draw with a decent colour range with Scribbler or even just in notes. In my ignorance, please forgive me, but the pen api sdk released by HTC would allow someone to do that wouldn't it? If I knew how I'd be on it like I don't know what...
Sent from my HTC Flyer P512 using xda premium
You would think HTC would have done such a basic feature , but they didn't.
In order to add it, you would need the source code for the current apps. HTC is not sharing that. The SDK provides primitive functions for building new applications. it does not allow you to add features to existing applications.
Sketching...
I am using Autodesk Sketchbook mobile... the sketchbook pro for android doesent work properly. I also have a Cintiq 21 to which the pressure tip is pretty nice.
as for the Flyer I have found if you select the brush tool and play with the settings you can almost get the same feel...
So no apps other then the notes app take advantage of the Pen in GB?
I'v heard that the pen is laggy in HC...
AS far as I know, only the notes app, PDF reader and browser in GB interact in some way with the pen.
Remember that the HC rom is a early beta, I have seen people have different results with the pen on HC, probably depends on what apps you have loaded. IF!!! HTC ever has a final release, I'm sure it will be much more reliable.
So there's no way really of even replacing the stock pen app - the one that pops up bottom-right, with summat better... Unless they were to release the source code for it?...
Sent from my HTC Flyer P512 using xda premium
Correct, that is part of the HTC Sense UI , its not just an app, it's tied into the Android framework.
That... sucks bum. Have HTC ever spoke of releasing the Sense UI?

With the second HC leak, I can use Sketchbook Mobile with no issues. What I noticed that pressure sensitivity is related to the pen you choose and the images appear to be in line with how you draw. Also the repsonse is quite good, I didn't see any issues.
I'm not sure if you're a professional sketcher but I am not and the result is impressive to me.
One important note: When you use a quality protection film (preferably mat ones) the result is better. With natural screen, the fricton is too less to write accurately but with a good film, you cannot believe how the writing/drawing experience will improve.
Edit: Skitch app becomes very handy in HC too. Actually let me repeat once more: This device is much better with HC (or ICS) due to better pen support.
+1 for Sketch Book Mobile.
The it would be nice if the erase function would work, but otherwise it works great.

Let me clarify. You are saying that the pressure sensitive pen for the flyer works with sketchbook mobile on the newest HC leak, no extra development needed for the app to add the pressure sensitivity? So this means it doesn't have to use the stock colors and brushes for the native pen?

That's my observation (leak #2). When you choose broader brush, you can differantiate the pressure sensitivity better. It's also valid for the native notes where you choose the big brush.
I'm liking this... I'm no developer and therefore I really appreciate xda developers chat about this... I would like to use sketchbook mobile more with the pen and it's good that skitch works better too. Will be good to see if Fresco works too!
So then, following on... the stock pen part of the Android Sense UI becomes less used because the app itself is supported through support from HC (or ICS?), what can be done for/what good is the stock pen part of Sense UI? Is it potentially more powerful because it's native, in any way (ignorance possibly showing)? In terms of developing, what COULD the pen part of Sense UI do or be used for if it's superceded by the app's integral features? How could the pressure sensitivity of it be improved more.
Or...
Is it too late in on a Friday night for me to talk anything that's not utter trash?
Will have to get a matt screen protector by the way... Thanks for the suggestion.

This depends upon HTC. If they develop any better applications for the Flyer, we'll be able to use stock part and full pen function (like erase button).
If HTC would publish (or support a 3rd party whichsoever) a better and more professional notes (something like Quill), and a good paint/sketch app I will definitely buy them. But the question is if HTC will do that.

Note Taking App That is comparable to "Notability" from IOS

I just got my first android tab(TFP). Everything is so far so good. Frankly was really worried since there are tons of people whining about Wifi, bleeding and even short charger cable(lol mine wasnt short at all)
Either way, biggest and maybe only disappointment i have with my tablet is that there is nothing on Android Market that is comparable to "Notability" from IOS.
If you have an Ipad, you know what i am talking about.... I looked around for a while and cant find anything as good. I was wondering if anyone can make an recommendation on a note taking app that is similar to Notability.
I've never used the app, but have you taken a look at Evernote? Or am I completely off base?

bit off base, Notability is focused on handwriting with fingers or stylus. With Evernote, you have to type notes or have to draw it.
Wouldn't it just be as fast to type than to write anyway?
Booya!
Hey!
I am using Epistle and once I got familiar with the interface I don't feel like switching.
As for hand writing - there are some keyboards that come in handy. I am using SlideIT and while not hand writing it's ridiculously fast to type this way.
I have been wondering the same thing. My co-worker has an ipad2 and I think notability is freaking awesome. I was trying to find an equivalent for my Xoom and can't. Why cant someone make an equivalent? Notability is awesome and only costs 99cents in the app store.

I don't have an iPad but I do have a tf300 and would love to have Notability or Penultimate on Android. The only apps I found that are similar to Notability or Penultimate are:
- Papyrus Beta (seems to be the only one with Palm rejection)
- Writepad Stylus
- LectureNotes
- Handrite Note Pro (another user recommended "Genial Writing" as a better app)
I'm not sure about that claim, but that's what I found so far.
There are some more related android apps but some of them have mixed reviews, and do not seem very reliable.
At this point I have not found an app that comes close to Notability, and it seems that Notability won't be available for android (at least not soon).

Seriously, I know people who’ve bought iPads just to be able to use this app! Think about it – I understand the need for an android version but I’m going to be selfish and plead with the Devs to keep the focus on iOS

Thanks everyone for your interest in Notability. I am with Ginger Labs, the developer of Notability. Carolyn did a nice job reviewing the app, thanks Carolyn!
For now, we are focused on iOS devices, the first being iPad, and we’re considering an iPhone version and possibly a version for the computer. We’re getting more requests for an Android version every week, and will consider it, but probably after the other versions are complete.
I think the new pensuite for the Samsung Galaxy Note has some features which are similar to the ones of notability.... Maybe a port of it could come even for tablets, once we'll have the ics version..
I am the author of LectureNotes, so my opinion is probably somewhat biased. In any case, I want to point out that to develop apps for iPad is significantly easier than to develop apps for Android: There is only one hardware manufacturer, one system version, and two screen resolutions (the latter only since very recently), etc. The world of Android is much more colorful and challenging: There are multiple hardware variants, various system versions, a multitude of screen resolutions, etc., not to talk about devices that do not behave in accordance with the documentation. As a consequence, the time and money you need to invest in app development is not comparable, and this is of course true for all handwriting apps in Android, not just for LectureNotes. Please consider this when comparing apps.
BTW: In difference to what is stated above, LectureNotes does have a palm rejection, either hardware based (for devices with active pens), software emulated (some devices), or a heuristic (all other devices) (also WritePad Stylus has a palm rejection.) But if you want to do serious note taking with your device, I definitely recommend a tablet with an active pen, irrespective of what Android app you use.
Its now 2013. Has ANYONE found a comparable app yet? Has any development improved? I use and love Evernote. Just wish I could freely type, draw and write notes like Notability.

Found this old thread and I'm wondering the same thing! Does anyone have any good ideas? I'm getting a tablet later this year specifically for pdf reading and editing, and would love to get a nexus 7 rather than an ipad mini, but unfortunately notability is tipping the scales towards the ipad.

I have found fiinote, 7 notes, free note, and lecture notes to be the best for serious hand writing I do on__l a galaxy note I feel like fii note needs major UI improvements but it is great for genetics lecture notes, because I hike my notes in my own handwriting. + the free draw has snap to grid this and the drawing us. handwriting are on 2 separate layers SO Easy to edit an switch between quickly I use the 7 notes keyboard as my input method for all things as it allows for single word edit, after writing out along string, has scrolling for a few screens before you need to confirm it and start another string. Some only allow 1 screen worth of writing, also even though it needs to be confirmed It does Still add each word you write in real time
What I want + have Yet to find is a Notability function-adding a power point the base layer so I can take notes on that in Or go. Anyone know of one? if I do PDF program I am basically adding comments in a clunky way, so I need a note taking/handwriting app I can add-ppt or pdf to and handwrite on it. My classmate can do this with notability

Note anytime is amazing I loved notability but for a great deal on my Android tablet and honestly hated all the apps for notes on this thing until now. Evernote only lets you add an attachment, office suite made you pay for the edit version, lecture notes is just writing, Polaris was good but no writing. I liked Kingsoft but you had to use the Samsung keyboard to write to text and it would add it to a pdf. Note anytime is above all the best. You have to just download it and go through the east tutorial!:good:

Hi --- checking note anytime, seems amazing, but I could not find a way to export a multi-page note to PDF. It's me or it's not implemented? (without that, it's basically not useful).
EDIT: see the matter here: (cannot post link, so you have to type it ): getsatisfaction.com/noteanytime/topics/save_as_pdf_from_the_android_version
Lecture notes works quite well, but the handwriting is very shaky and horrible compared to Notability.

LectureNotes is promising. Noteability is awesome. LectureNotes is probably more powerful as it has a lot of customisation features. Perhaps too much in my opinion as a Noteability user.
But writing on a Samsung Note is really far better than using a squishy stylus on the iPad. I've been using S notes, the built in Samsung app, but it is too staid, slow and sluggish. Am coming to grips with LecturenNotes as I work with a lot of large sized PDFs. So far LN has been promising. Have got around to importing my first file and starting to annotate it. LN looks to deliver a lot. Let me see. The developer is extremely responsive. If that continues, I am sure my life will be a whiz with LN.
Would love Noteabiity on Android to cut through a lot of the learning curve on LN.

School Notes App?

Hi guys,
Me being a student, I was wondering if there was any apps that allow for the import of pdf files to write over them with a stylus to take notes?
I've been trying to use my Prime to take notes in class and my professor puts out pdfs every lecture, it'd be great to be able to take notes on the pdf as he talks about it.
I've been using LectureNotes and recently Papyrus (love it) to take notes, but it doesn't feel as integrated with my classes add id like to.
I saw somewhere that there was an app that converts the pdf file into jpgs to allow the user to write on them. has any one heard of this?
Thanks

The Asus stock MyReader app allows you to take notes on top of PDF files.
Best apps i have used to take notes are already included in your prime. Super note is amazing! No more physical notebooks for me! And MyReader works wonderful too.
Both apps paired with a Stylus and TouchScreen Tune = awesome

MyReader? I have MyLibrary is it the same? i had not bothered with it before cause i thought it was just an ebook reader.
I messed with it and it did let me edit a pdf that it already had on the library but it wont pick up the pdfs i loaded in the Prime from class.
I was thinking the same thing of finding out an app for note taking. Then I thought why not just take a screen cap of the full pdf page lol

Sir, I REALLY wanna know too! I am dieing to find a stylus with which I can take notes on my Tablet just as well as I do with a real notebook.
Please answer the following:
1) What stylus do you use?
2) What app do you use to write handwritten notes?
3) Does it really feel just as natural to write with that stylus and app combo as a real life paper and pen/pencil?
Thanks!

Thought I'd add my 2 cents.
I'm a first year University student so I need to take a lot of notes.
1) I personally use a wacom bamboo stylus and I like it alot.
2) I use Supernote pretty much exclusively for hand written notes.
3) It feels pretty natural after a while, however it's never going to feel like writing with pen/pencil and paper as it is just a different experience.

at first i really liked superNote aswell but when trying to catch with some of my professors it felt slow and it bothered me that everything is in line.
that's why i moved to Lecture Notes, i really like how its like a notebook with pages and me being able to write anywhere on the page. then from this i moved to Papyrus, i really like how its like an infinite white board so i can write anywhere. its beta so missing some things but still awesome.
But anyhow are there really no apps that do what i need with pdfs? i don't gave that My Reader app

Opinions of the HTC Flyer

Hello everyone. So currently I am considering getting the HTC Flyer. I can get one for around $160 USD (used but in good condition). Is it worth it? I definitely cannot afford new tablets but a used one with decent specs would do. I am about to enter college in the fall and was wondering if this tablet would be useful for this purpose, specifically because of the pen. Does the pen seem more like a gimmick or is it really useful (like with school and professional related tasks). Also, if I do get the HTC Flyer, can you all share what are great apps to make this device extra handy (apps which utilize the pen, notes and documents).
Recommended accessories would also be nice! Affordable ones that is. The pen is already sooooo expensive (IMHO) and I WANT it!!!
Is it advisable to update to HC or leave it on Android 2.3? I like the new pen features of HC but it seems HC is buggy (from what I read on this forum) and that isn't favorable when I may be taking notes in college with this thing.
I just want to get a device that would help me all round. Some entertainment here but useful in the classroom. I am on a tight budget (still have to get a laptop so please consider that)
I really appreciate everyone's time. I look forward to hearing from you all.
I purchased the flyer specifically for the pen usage and am very satisfied with it. I upgraded to honeycomb and if your main use is for the pen I suggest that you do too. I like the ability to annotate books in either epub or PDF. I like the feature in the stock notes app where you can record and your written notes are time stamped and synced with the recording and ultimately with evernote. however I don't particularly like how writing the notes are implemented (it is constantly wasting time autosaving). if you are just taking notes I would suggest using apps such as quill or papyrus (I myself prefer papyrus - it is very smooth and uses both buttons on the pen). what else I have been doing is using the voice recording app along with apps such as papyrus then exporting them together into the notes app which then seamlessly syncs with evernote (yes I know it seems tedious but I only do this if i really need the lecture recorded). the only thing that I really desire is a fully functional handwriting recognition app. I downloaded a couple of apps (thanks to Gumby) such as notes mobile. they work fairly well however my handwriting is so poor it isn't worth it. my family does much better with it so perhaps you can too.
so all in all if the flyer is in good shape for $160 I would highly recommend it. if i think of anything else to say I will let you know.
The pen functionality is great for annotations on existing documents but it's not easy to take notes, like meeting minutes.
Anyway 160bucks is a nice price if you want a 7" tablet the flyer is great, but if you want to spend just 160bucks to replace a paper book to take notes in class that's going to disappoint you

just wondering which app do you use to take notes? I can see the difficulty if you are using the stock notes app (due to the constant autosaving) but apps such as papyrus are very smooth and I find note taking to be very easy and productive.
So far the stock tool and MS notes, I'll try papyrus and let you know

@ericvv. Thanks for your input. I don't plan on using it to replace "book, paper and pencil". I just want something that can help with making supplementary notes. I really doubt *anything* can replace the pen and pad for serious notes.
Just asking...I remember reading that only ebooks bought from Kobo can be annotated through the supplied app. But...is there anyway to side load e-pub and pdf books and annotate them the same way? Like through alternative apps. The Kobo way would be kind of expensive.
Thanks everyone for you time.
I am using the app LectureNotes daily at my work to scribble down quick notes from meetings etc. It is actually working quite well and it has nearly eliminated my use of pen and paper, but only nearly .

And the developer is legend, I mailed him a couple of times with usability issues and within 3 or 4 days the updated app was on the marketplace. There is a free version to try, give it a spin.

I believe that the standard HTC reader app should let you annotate ebooks. I actually sideloaded an epub on my Flyer and noted that I was able to highlight and take notes on. However, it should be noted that I'm running LeeDroid for Honeycomb, so I have no idea how everything works when the unit is stock.
I initially purchased the Flyer because it was cheap and slightly more portable than my HP Touchpad (running CM9) for travel purposes (i occasionally need to run Citrix to access my company's desktop). I also preferred it over the Kindle Fire and Nook Tablet due to the existence of the cameras (I skype with my grandmother in Asia). Plus, the battery life on this thing is phenomenal. The fact that I got it for about $170 just made it all the sweeter. The only downside thus far, in my opinion, is the lack of ICS. I know a lot of people have commented that it is a single core machine. Since I don't really play any games on the tablet, this is a non-issue for me.
I thought that the pen was a total gimmick and unnecessary. For most of my uses, that is true. However, I figured out that my office can send me PDF documents, which I can sign using the pen, save the signed PDF, and send it back to my office. This does not happen that often, but it's a pretty neat feature to have.
Thanks everyone for the input. I made the plunge! I know this is off topic but...the Flyer I bought doesn't include a USB cable, only the charger. Would the standard USB cable work for this for PC connection? I really do hope so. Accessories for this thing already aren't cheap!
Yes normal usb cable is fine, for accessories look on eBay is not bad eve of for genuine HTC parts.

That's where I normally buy my accessories. I looked for the OEM cable which is a bit pricey IMHO. I will use my old USB cable! IS it slower or anything to transfer data with this cable though?
No I didn't isn't, the port is only different from mechanical point of view to prevent that you put other devices on the flyer OEM charger and damage them.... The amount of amps is just dangerous for over devices..
For example when my wife uses her ipad charger to charge her iphone the phone gets really hot and probably would be damaged if kept on to long.

Galaxy Tab S6 lecture note taking

Trying to find a good app for lecture note taking with my Galaxy Tab S6 (which is on its way). I seen literally hundreds of reviews, videos etc. I've made a short list of (possibly) the best available apps for android, but I'd like to have the opinion of experts on this matter. Why am I being proactive with this? Well my tablet was received damaged and a replacement on its way, but I'm really running late with my notes and workload piling up.
I don't mind paying for a good app, as long as it does the job it was intended for. I take engineering notes with lots of math formulas. Handwriting OCR is a must. My humble shortlist after doing my research is:
- Nebo
- Squid
- OneNote
- MS Word
Most of these apps were exhaustively reviewed with an iPad, so I'm not sure which one of these, or any other I missed can do the job on the Tab S6.
Any opinions or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I can only speak to Nebo. I bought it for it's excellent 'written text to .txt' function; aslo does Word (.docx), PDF or HTML. It is in continual development, and they've added some new features just in the last few weeks. Works very well at deciphering even my scribbles that I can hardly make out.
Something to check out is FiiNote; I'm just now starting to evaluate it, (as a replacement for Joplin, not a note-taking app, but good for information consolidation).
FYI, my work-flow using Nebo and Joplin us to scribble notes in Nebo—>convert to plain text—>paste in to Joplin.

Thanks TiTiB for your input. I've purchased and tested Nebo with the Tab S6. Handwriting is indeed faster than OneNote. Math formula writing is again much better. The downside, you cannot import something from pdf, like a graph or a photo from your notes into Nebo. Export to Word works well. I try to do some formatting and inserting graphs using Word on Windows, which takes some time. Dark theme is also not available, which should save some battery. Have you noticed that any of these features can work somehow?
Other than that, Nebo is a very good app.

I have not used any Word functions (nor even Word, for that matter). I don't use Nebo fo anything other than 'scribbles-to-text' ability. I use Joplin for 'consolidation' of text and image/pdf files; tho, like I said, I have FiiNotes installed and am evaluating that app.
Noteledge maybe?

So far I've tried more than a dozen apps and none of them seem to be able to do what I'm trying to achieve!
Currently trying to test Joblin. I'll try Noteledge then and see how it goes.
I'm afraid that buying the Tab S6 for becoming more productive in note taking was a waste of money and time!

Can you please elaborate on why it's a waste of money and time? I'm considering buying a Tab S6 (or iPad 10.2 + Pencil), also for lecture note taking and would really appreciate your opinion.

I extensively tested the Tab S6 for note taking only, nothing else, since I have a lot of homework piling up. I spent more than 2 weeks with that. I could name over 20 note taking apps that I have tried in the process.
The ones I worked with the most since I found more suitable than the others were OneNote, Nebo, Notion, Evernote, Joplin. Every single one of them has something missing which is covered by the other. It is not my purpose to mention pros and cons of each of those. Bottom line, I straggled trying to figure out a way to work more efficiently than taking notes either on paper or using MS Word on the laptop. In the end I realized I was much faster with the laptop!
Tab S6 appears to be an excellent machine, very fast and handy if you are on the go. It's probably the best android tablet out there at this point. However, the android apps are not as good. I've purchased paid versions of some of them above, but still I wasn't efficient enough.
Most of professional apps out there for tablets are demonstrated using either iPad Pro or Surface (YouTube videos). So I was misguided to buy the Tab S6 since I thought that it could cover all these. Big mistake! If you want to make a shopping list or a to-do list on the tablet fine, but that's about it. Besides I don't know why should anyone bother with that anyway, just use the phone.
Don't get me wrong, the Tab S6 was an excellent machine, but cannot compete with the power or multitasking of a laptop. I'm saying "was" because I gave up 2 days ago and I'm back to the old fashion way. Currently, I'm looking for a WACOM or using Notion on laptop to evaluate and see if any of those can to the job efficiently.
I almost mainly use OneNote for note-taking for work, works great for me... And I now noticed OneNote introduced dark mode which is great for oled screens. Every now and then I use Samsung NOtes for a quick random note.
But give some concrete examples of what would be missing because right now it just feels like your greatly exeggarating here. The very general 'every app was missing something' doesn't help either.
I use mainly written notes btw, bought the tabs6 as a replacement for my paper-note-taking primarily.

If you want details, I'll try to be brief:
-OneNote: probably the best of all I've tried, but, I had to use 3 different versions of OneNote to complete my notes, plus MS Word in the end. OneNote on android for taking handwrtitten notes, which by the way cannot recognize math formulas, and I have a lot. Fortunately auto sync on all devices, so used OneNote on W10 to insert graphs and tables. This one has a dark mode as well, but many features are missing. The fully loaded OneNote 2016, which unfortunately is being phased out, has everything, no dark mode, but that's not a problem. Then export to docx, which needs some further formatting and corrections. One problem there, math formulas are extracted as images, not formulas! But overall, OneNote was the best I used. Finally realized, I was faster typing everything on my laptop using Word!
-Nebo: very good with math formulas and all these are transferred as actual formulas when exporting to Word. Dark mode as well. Cannot import tables or graphs, so I had to do this in Word with laptop. Still faster with the laptop!
-Joplin: Excellent app, but still more complete on the Windows version rather than the android app. Didn't practice much with this, still much to learn.
-Notion: excellent app, many possibilities, like Joplin, more powerful on the Windows version rather than the android app. Still much to learn from this.
The handwriting recognition on the Tab S6 is excellent, but I have the impression that everything is done from the tablet itself, not by the different apps. So all the credit for the text recognition goes to the tablet not to the apps, which all use the same input method. I could go on and on, but I have homework to do. I'm stating my honest opinion here, nothing to do with manufacturers or anything else. Unlike many videos posted on YouTube and others, which present things in such an incredible way, giving wrong impressions at times, especially for apps.

OneNote 2016 for Windows is some kind of a Swiss army knife to me... especially with Addons
Because of the downgrades in the 2019 version, I bought OneNote 2016 (Office Home & Student 2016) several months ago.
And the Onetastic-Addon :good:
Good news regarding OneNote 2016?
@euclid444: for math formulas, did you try
- Microsoft Mathematics-Add-In for OneNote (for windows)
- MyScript Calculator 2 (android)
I want to add Lecture Notes to the list.
