MeanROM

MeanROM comes with Google Now already installed so if you don't want to mess with flashing other zips that's the obvious choice. Just wanted to let you know though that it can be flash on any ROM. Simply follow the instructions here. Make sure you download mikey's v6

Another vote for MeanRom. The Google Now integration is seamless.

are you able to use your 4g. i went running and realized i couldnt turn my 4g on. there wasnt a on/off button

I'm running Rejuvenated Stock 2.2 currently, and it has a very functional Google Now. I don't know if it's as current as the one in MeanROM 3.0, but it's been great so far.

As soon as CM10 (or CMX) is fully functional, I'll be all over it. I've tried a couple of the builds, and it's progressing very nicely. Deck & toast are doing an amazing job with it. For me, it's pretty much a camcorder away from being a daily.

There is no on/off button for LTE like there was for WiMAX. It's always on unless you go into wireless settings and turn it off.

Am I the only one who's not a big fan of google now? It bothers me how scrolling through search results is slower than on the standard google search app (i.e. the screen doesn't continue scrolling for a bit after you take your finger off). I also find that sometimes tapping on links for sub results doesn't work...the link is highlighted briefly but the page never loads. Is anyone else having problems with that? I'm using Clean Rom at the moment but I've noticed the same things on Mean.
Is it possible to revert back to the stock google search? Is there an apk I can replace or is google now embedded in the ROM?

There is a way to go back but voice search doesn't work at the moment. It's in the bottom of this post under 'back to stock'.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29756226
You can turn googlenow off in settings if you still want voice search to work until the 'back to stock' is fixed. cajunflavoredbob is working on the fix.

I just installed the "S Voice" that comes with the new SGS3 and it works. I found this out from this THREAD and this THREAD. It is ok and looks to work good with our device if you are running an ICS Rom. I am currently on MeanRom ICS v1.0 and it works good. Enjoy
Edit: One that should work after they tried and block us lol.

Just think of it as (dare I say it) Siri. It's pretty simple and easy to use.
Click the bottom-right if you need more help or go into the settings. If I were you, I'd turn of the 'Hi Galaxy' wakeup since it's pointless having to say that every time I want to use it.
Thanks op.

tried it. it works but it's very laggy. From the moment I said "Call home" to the moment the phone actually started dialling, I had to wait about 40 seconds. A bit too long to actually make it useful.
Thanks for sharing though. Probably it will improve with time
Double tap home didn't work for me, but maybe due to sense? Couldn't get it working on AOSP ICS on Desire either though.
Trying to change wake up fc it and had to clear app data to get it working again.

[MOD] [UPDATED 8/5/12] Google Now Project For ICS - Heads Up

Not sure if many of you guys are aware of the Google Now search option but it is something similar to Siri. I have this running on Viper 4G and its working pretty well. Also I'm not to sure how often that thread gets updated so I posted the link to the Member that uploaded the flashable zip file.
All credit goes to the guys over at the main thread located below! PLEASE VISIT THE THREAD BELOW FOR THE APP / FLASHABLE FILES

40 Cool Voice Searches
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHkhp6BwnGo
Hit the thanks button if you like!
Indeed, I feel like Now is something I actually will use as when Siri came out I was like "meh". I have a Nexus 7 and I instinctively ask questions to it instead of searching by text like I normally do. The first time I did this shocked me because I never thought I would be using voice search in this streamlined fashion (not to mention how quick it is).
I know they added a pseudo-voice search for that app now and it's okay but the real thing is awesome. If you can afford to do a nandorid backup and flashing the CM10 build that can be found in the IRC channel -- do it. Just to see how fluid and fast the voice search is. Not to mention how life-like the voice is
EDIT: FORGET WHAT I SAID. Voice search is now working 100% now! Check out the video I made (if you can stand my foreign accent) of the Nexus 7 and our Evo performing side by side:
IT isnt "something similar to siri"....... it runs circles around it !
I've been using it for the last couple of days and it's pretty cool. I have my GPS/location icon hidden in Viper 4G but by looking at the battery usage on my phone, I have a feeling it may be using GPS more often than I'd like. I may have to unhide the icon and watch it. When I had GPS off, it started giving me weather for somewhere in California when I asked how the weather was
does any one known if this hack will work with the meanroom?
Im sure it will.. Just do a backup just in case.

I'm not DB13, but you can find the download for CM10 in IRC. It's pretty close to daily driver status for most folks, but I was having a couple of small problems that I couldn't overlook and didn't have the time to figure them out. It's certainly worth the time to flash and play around with.

Any ways, I was using this for a few days on the stock ROM. I ran into problem with performance and crashing issues afterwards, so I took GoogleNow back off.
It probably would work better on a non-stock/non-SenseUI ROM, but it caused issues for me!

Same here. Voice prompts and response is great. Only issue is general web search response shows a blank card until you swipe up/down and the results then pop in. Small issue but the voice interaction is top-notched!

Cyanogenmod 9 camera issue

Hi everyone!
First off, sorry this is in the wrong place but since I've just joined I can't post on the thread that I want to.
I've got an evo 3d GSM and I have an app called blippar, I tried to use it today but found it didn't work. Then I went into my camera and got a message saying cannot connect to camera. The only way to get it working again is to restart my phone. I haven't tried this with other apps that use the camera as I don't have any.
If antler can help me out that could be great.

as best as I can tell blippar's broken in pretty much every way possible... and it seems to hog the camera for all the other apps when it force closes.
of the top of my head I know that Google Goggles works just fine in continuous mode, but is buggy with snapshots, also i know that QR Barcode Scanner works just fine.
as far as CM10, the only CM10 port worth mentioning at this point for the E3D GSM is agrabren's Disarmed Toaster, which in it's last iteration (namely 1.6) doesn't have a working camera or camcoder to begin with so i imagine no camera using apps work.
hope this helps

yes, he is still working on his CM10 at the moment, with 0.2.0 to be released pretty soon.
the update frequency sorta depends on what the major issue is, as well as his schedule.

Instead of using the power button you can wake the device up by sliding your finger over the softkeys(menu>back>search>back the combo depends on the kernel implementation)

S2W is a feature found in some of the EVO 3D kernels, it allows you to slide from one end of the capacitive keys to the other to wake the phone and the opposite way to make it sleep.

Curious as to what you're looking for specifically. I really wanted to stick with CM10 but I've found the following issues which have me looking elsewhere:
- Doesn't properly connect / Switch Wireless Access Points with the same SSID (doesn't seem to know to grab the one with the best signal strength like other ROMS do)
- Doesn't work with LTE for me, in fact if I don't disable LTE networking it will try to connect to LTE but never connect and leave data disabled instead of falling back to 3g
- Google Wallet doesn't work (I know this is Google's doing).
- Camera doesn't seem to focus properly or work as well as with stock or FreshROM. Even when i touch focus it won't focus properly all the time.
- No panoramic mode for cam but you can do burst
I LOVE the performance and feel of the ROM but I need my data access to work properly.... I also love the updates and staying on top of them.
Anyone know of the best alternative to CM 10 that's JB, good on updates and works properly?
Have you tried the newest cm10? I'm using it at a place right now where I Dont usually get connection. Seems to work great for me... even better than sense... even with lte.

So I managed to fix the LTE issue by reflashing and NOT choosing the option from Titanium backup to restore my old Android ID - for whatever reasons this breaks LTE for me and probably anyone else.
Is there a way to compile your Titanium Backup into a flashable .zip + restore data and launcher data?
Multi BSSID is still a problem for me (moving between APs with the same BSSID).
