Motorola finally unlocking bootloaders, but will we get it too? - Motorola Photon 4G

Motorola announced they will be unlocking bootloaders. What are the odds they allow it on older devices...

Will this official unlock allow 4G on custom roms?

Monkeys just flew out of my butt...

interesting that the article states, " Photon Q will be the first device to have support for the unlock tool."
I was under the impression that the Photon Q was being shipped unlocked out of the box based on what tsdeaton said.

Everything I read said it would be unlockable, not unlocked out of the box.

Has anyone tried the verify tool on the Motorola unlock site yet to see if photon is supported?

Looks like photon Q, razr developer edition, xoom (Verizon and wifi). That's it. I am disappoint.

On android central they said that (this is about other phones) "moto says that they have to evaluate that on a phone by phone basis, and that they have worked with Sprint to come up with a solution that's favorable to everyone involved." And no it's not unlocked out of the box.

Too much beggin and problems with this phone that is why I am considering going with a Samsung phone.
BY the time ICS (way later sometime this year) gets official and with a locked bootloader what is the point anymore?

Unless you're already stuck with a locked bootloader on 2.3.5, than when official ICS drops for our device, I guarantee that users will be able to flash the official update with a modified unlocked bootloader!
Also, when official ICS does come out, that'll cure ALL out current minor issues with custom ROMs! To be really honest with you tho, the custom Jelly Bean ROMs we have out now in the development section are a TON more stable and usable than the ICS ROMs that we had previously!

ICS update could be soon?

I know this is getting a little old to see on here but I thought I would just pass on the news. One of casual members over at atrix 2 forum found an ics leak using cheesecake for the att version of the phone just a few days ago yesterday Jim posted how to properly flash the new update(leak) of ICS.
Here's why I know we will get the update. The atrix 2 was one of the most currently under appreciated android device to come from Motorola in awhile. No advertisement. Just simply came out. The photon may have been out a few months longer but its resell value is still higher than the atrix 2 and has sold far more than the atrix 2. Please don't doubt Motorola on the ics updates. It will come out and it feels like only a matter of weeks or month before someone here finds a leak using cheesecake or some other method. Keep your chins up
Sent from my MB855 using xda app-developers app
Even if Motorola released ICS for the Photon today it'd probably take them another 60 days to release the source code and drivers.
Actually I just checked and it seems they released the latest source code about 3 weeks before the OTA went live so maybe we'll get lucky.
Atrix*2* will have the update sooner, because it's OMAP device, like razor, bionic, droid4... It's easy to make it, if you have it already for one of them. ;-)

You are borderline trollin right now lex. Just let it go, don't be 'that' guy. And xda is supposed to be a source of information, hence it is closely related to a classroom. Every post that isn't at least somewhat informative is considered spam. "Motorola sucks" falls in that category and you should have known you were about to get flamed for sayin it.
I wouldn't write it better, even in my mother language.

Man, you started, if you look at the sequence of posts. Please, let it be...
So far for this being the first leak for the att atrix 2 its running flawlessly. The bug report thread for the build has not reported any major bug so far. So for just a leak Motorola did a great job with ics this ics. And did one of you say earlier that source was released? Were you talking about the tegra2?

Why are you so negative? If you hate Motorola so much and have such low standards for them then please leave the thread or provide useful information. If you have information about source being released in 8 months then post it rather than making assumptions based on your distaste for Motorola

he's playing you. he's kinda rude.
there's not a lot of development going on due to driver issues. i would say so at least. so it makes things much slower. most all roms are stable with a few bugs and all ics/jb are without drivers and a few of the devs are busy with their own lives at the moment. so it makes development a lot slower!
Oh.... that means we will never have a unlocked bootloader except motorola itself unlock it....

Haha only slightly! But I'm pleanty helpful when I can be Again, this is a question that pertains to the current bootloader delima, of which there is a wealth of information within 3 or 4 threads just on page one and two of general and QA..
2.3.4 bootloader was unlockable, because Motorola allowed us to download it and use it. It was not developed! And it's the only one unlockable bootloader, we have.

you could try doing the fastboot work around? if it's anything like the electrify with the 2.3.5 shipped bootloader you can easily unlock. try it out.

Okay. Looks good. Is there a way to extract logs or other info that might help the devs find a workaround or method to unlock the BL on other devices? Should anything be installed to help with that?

How is it that a device I only know about due to my mom passing is still getting supported by Motorola, yet we get absolutely nothing but pushed to the side?

I checked Sprint's update blog on the XPRT but the last update I see was about a year ago: http://community.sprint.com/baw/com...hones-and-devices/motorola/motorola_xprt/blog

Keep regular S4 or return and wait for developer edition?

Agreed... my initial though was I might as well just take it back and get the developer version.
But I'm confident the standard one will be the more popular device

Keep what you have got because the developer's edition probably won't have any Verizon support or warranty protection.

I asked lg developers for help.

Worth a shot right?
Edit: if it's too hard to read it basically shows me asking for help, on the lg developer forum, for unlocking bootloader and them saying no help it is unsupported.(for now)

Moto X and Moto G are both going to be supported for years because Motorola is owned by Google now. Therefore, Motorola phones are practically Nexus phones. Even though they don't get updates first, they get them soon after!
Well i just found out CyanogenMod Team coming out with a phone... I want that instead since all i'm gonna do is put a custom rom on a phone anyways..

I'm definitely getting the moto g when it comes to the US in January, can't believe it's only $179. Could probably sell this phone for $100 too, $79 for an unlocked 720p phone with KitKat sounds great.
