[Q] Have I softbricked - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, I made a schoolboy error and think I have softbricked my phone.
I just got it this morning and have rooted it through ODIN. I was going to install a ROM but when in recovery I went and used the Superwipe app and then rebooted (don't ask) and it is now stuck on the Samsung logo screen. I can boot into recovery but of course no backup as its been wiped.
I am downloading a Stock Official and going to install through ODIN. I assume this is the right way to getting back to stock and starting again to unsoftbrick my SIII?
Its the first time I have ever arsed up. Its not nice lol

Yup, as long as you can get to download mode, you can use odin and flash back to stock.

I have the exact problem as you,but I couldn't flash the stock rom for my country..via Odin

Don't bother with superwipe, just wipe data/factory reset in cwm and of you really feel the need you can format system under mounts and storage in cwm.
Just make sure you have something to flash already on your phone before you do, and don't reboot after formatting system.
Flashing stock via Odin will fix your problem now.

Thanks. I dont usually format and have no idea why I thought it was a good idea to do it this time. I was going to mount internal storage through CWM and put the ROM on it but there was no option to mount it.
EDIT - All sorted. Thanks for the info

If you know how to use adb you could put the ROM on your sdcard through cwm.

Or if you're not comfortable with adb and got an external SD, put the external SD in your PC and transfer the cwm rom to that and flash it from external SD on your phone
if i helped-hit thanx

[Q] I am stuck on the recovery screen! Please help

Okay so I am stuck on the recovery screen. I have rebooted several times and I have ended up in the same place. I have also chosen "apply sdcard:update.zip" which failed to install. I also chose wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache partition. I'm getting no where and I'm pretty much freaking out that I screwed up my phone. I got to this point by going to download mode and using odin. I was trying to get CWS recovery, but now that is the least of my worries. If anyone has any answers please help. Thank you
After screwing up my phone 9 total times now, this worked for me. I found cwr 3.0 plus aborted alot of things I tries to flash. I used odin to go back to cwr 2.5.1 and it allowed me to flash the files I wanted and saved my tail. ( many times ) . I also have used odin to go back to stock, then after it was working I would re root and get right back into the flash game. Now using only jt's stuff. Running Cm6 now . Hope it helps.

No problem- you'd have to do a lot more than that to brick a fascinate. Simply use Odin (You do have Odin, right?) to flash CWM and then boot directly to that and reflash the ROM you have on your SD card. No ROM on the SD card? There are several Odin packages containing a ROM, custom kernel, and CWM, all in one handy package.
See (and read) this thread for more help:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1048380
Okay, yeah I lost a lot of sleep that night, but I finally found a way. Yeah I did have to use Odin to get out of that mess. I went back to stock with something by Adrynalyn (is that how you spell it?)

PLEASE REPLY Stuck in recovery!!!!

OK so Im on AOKP milestone 6 with the devil kernel and i went in to recovery to wipe cache and dalvik cache and when i pressed reboot system it goes back to recovery!!!! please help as I really don't want to reflash everything!!! Thanks.
I had this same problem until I flashed TWRP. When I rebooted, it instead loaded the OS, but it still had Devil Recovery. WTF?
Have you tried re-flashing the rom without wiping data?

Try flashing CWM recovery again using Heimdall or Odin. Once it boots into recovery, flash TWRP or another recovery of your choice, then reboot and hopefully you will see your boot animation. That's what I did to get AOKP build 40 to boot again (though strangely enough, it's stuck with Devil recovery even after flashing TWRP). Hope this helps you guys out. And be sure to make backups!

Again, how can i put twrp on my sd card if i'm stuck in recovery? Is there a link for an odin version of twrp
You should be able to mount your SD card in recovery anyway. If not, take it out and insert it into an adapter to plug into your computer. I don't know if there's an Odin version of TWRP, I flashed it in CWM recovery.
I would read droid styles guide first if you have not yet as it has all the answers you will need. You just need to read through it and following the directions.

If you're using CWM, it's under Advanced or Mounts and Storage. Plug in the USB cable like you normally would.

I try to install twrp but it says installation aborted. I'm really starting to get sick of this phone and its stability issues.
You got the zip, right? It's in the Fascinate development section of the forums.
There is nothing wrong with the phone. I don't understand why you can't just Odin back to stock and start over. With the amount of time you have been stuck in recovery you could have fixed it by now. It you could follow droid styles guide to get out of the recovery loop without going back to stock. Something tells me you really just want a new phone...am I close???

Don't you belong in a different section?
Anyway, sorry for getting snippy, I was just really tired and frustrated. I did use the .zip from the forums.
If you've already tried Heimdall-flashing CWM again, and that didn't work, then I suggest you Odin back to stock as shelby suggested. If you haven't made a nandroid already, do so, then revert back to stock and start from scratch. You can try restoring your nandroid once you're no longer stuck in recovery.

I have a mez and I just got the sgs3 a little while ago. You need to check out section 8 or 9 I think of the guide. It tells you exactly how to get out of your situation.

There's also a topic about the "three-finger recovery boot loop" fix. You could try that.

[Q] Phone won't boot, can access download and recovery mode.

Ok there, guys.
Before I start, yes I'm an idiot, yes I'm a huge noob, no I don't know what I'm doing.
Basically, I have a SGS2 and I was trying to install Cyanogenmod 10.1.
I used Heimdall to (flash?) install ClockworkMod Recovery and it worked.
I realised that I hadn't put the Cyanogenmod .zip on my phone before I installed CWM.
I got up to rebooting my phone so I could transfer the zip but after the Galaxy splash screen nothing happened.
The screen just stays black and doesn't do anything.
I can access Download and Recovery mode so that's good.
I only have access to a Mac at the moment so I have to use the Heimdall command line.
If anybody could help it would be great, thanks!

Put your forgotten .zip on an sd card put it in your phone. Boot to recovery and install. Then do full wipe and you should be good to go.

How can I access my phone's storage through recovery/download mode?
Thanks for the reply, by the way.
Edit: Oops, sorry. Didn't read your reply correctly. Unfortunately I don't have a SD card. Is there a way I can restore my phone COMPLETELY to stock?

Flash a stock rom and start from scratch. Get stock rom file from xda or sammobile (NOT A 4.0.4 ics rom tho.) flash via odin/Heimdall in download mode. it will boot up when done turn it off and reboot to recovery and do full wipe. redo your flash with missing .zip.
good luck

I flashed a 4.1.2 stock rom onto my phone but it still doesn't work.
I flashed the phone, it automatically rebooted, when the Samsung logo came up I took out the battery, went to recovery mode, wiped cache and full wipe, hit reboot and now it just stays on the Samsung logo, pulsing blue and what not.
I also did the same thing and instead of taking out the battery I just left it in there after the first reboot and the same thing happened.
How can I fix this?
Hum....I9100?
flash lsj (only phone, code abd csc).

[Q] Mount internal or ext SD card from Recovery

Hi guys,
I basically wiped my phone and completely forgot to copy the ROM I wanted to flash into my ext SD card. Now, the phone has no ROM to boot into and I need to be able to mount it onto Windows from within the recovery to be able to do it. I'm running CWM 6.0.2.7
Has anyone ever done this? What should I do?
Thanks
Wipe data doesn't mean format (like PC) it's just a factory reset
you can flash any official FW for your device by Odin
So it isn't possible for Windows to detect the phone in any way so I can copy the ROM into it?
It's possible by using ADB and push it
but why you don't boot up your device and copy it?
Use adb to push the file onto the card. Or remove ext. SD card and use a reader to copy it over.
Here is a good adb interface, it has easy push/pull where you just supply the two file paths and hit go,

Thanks for the prompt replies everyone.
I just re-flashed an original FW through Odin, rooted it back, re-installed CWM Recovery and now tried to flash a new rom, in this case, Foxhound and after it tries to reboot it comes back into CWM always... it never boots into the ROM..
Anyone has any clue why this would be happening?

The ROM? Just did and the same thing happens, boots up to Samsun Galaxy logo, then that "eye" logo then reboots again into CWM. At all times.
I just installed Omega just to try it out and it works, boots into the ROM, with Foxhound it doesn't even reach the Foxhound Logo, it reboots and goes back to CWM... Any ideas? I can't post in the Foxhound thread due to lack of posts
Flash stock Rom, and allow it to boot up properly before you do anything else....did you do that?

Yes, two times already. Then rooted, then flashed CWM Recovery then wiped data etc, flashed foxhound and same thing happens. Tried Omega and it boots into it, it's only Foxhound and I really wanted to try it...
I'm sorry this thread has derailed into another issue but thought it wasn't worth cluttering with yet another thread.
Is it possible to shut down the phone from CWM Recovery aside from doing a battery pull?
Could be a bad download. Try downloading again.

Flashed CWM with ROM manger now cannot leave cwm

Hey guys, my friend decided to flash a custom rom, asked me for help, so I told him to get rom manager and install cwm first.
He was rooted already, not long after telling him. To use rom manager to get cwm, he messages me telling me he is stuck cwm, it seems that every time he turns in the phone or restarts he cannot leave cwm at all, he also claims he cannot get into download mode, keeps taking him to cwm.
I got him to and re flash cwm via cwm, but it gave him an error.
Has anyone heard of getting stuck in cwm before??

Get your friend to read the stickies in general, before he flashes anything else and destroys his phone.
Follow the guide to restoring to fully stock using odin on his pc, it might enable the phone to boot normally.
