Cannot Flash a Kernel on the EVO LTE - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Hello, I rooted and used this method to root and install recovery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1690919
Then I installed Mean ROM and everything went smoothly.
I tried installing a kernel:
First, I tried this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1814037
and then I tried this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1800399
Both of them say they installed, but when I open Antutu CPU Master, I cannot overclock, I even went on the settings and about phone and it looked like the kernel was still the same.
Is there a specific method in which to flash the kernel?
Can someone help?
Thanks

I believe that you have to be S-OFF (preferred) or HTC Dev Unlocked to flash kernels successfully.
Also, if you took the latest OTA, you're now on a version of hboot, which doesn't allow flashing kernels.

If you are on the new H-boot, you cannot flash kernels from recovery. Simple as that.
You can fastboot flash them. Theres a thread about it in the general section. I'd suggest reading up on it

Can someone please provide me the link or a walkthrough on what to do?
I dont have anything installed on my computer at all and am completely new to this.

If your using TWRP 2.2.1 then maybe you can use the HTC Dumlock to flash kernels? I'm S-off so I don't have to use it.

Try this:

Here are the instructions for flashing a kernel on the latest hboot:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1794867
You basically just need to flash the entire boot image instead of just the kernel. I know there is an an Enoch boot image available in the official thread, not sure about Evilz.
To do a fastboot flash you'll need the sdk installed. There is a good how to video here if you've never done it before:

Might be able to flash using Flash Imgae GUI.
Edit: Nvm. premo15's first link talks about using it.

I tried Flash Image GUI, but it messed up my rom, now I keep getting a Reboot Loop on the HTC Screen with the Developer Warning.
I then tried to clear all data and install the Mean Rom again, and when I do, it says that the ROM is installed in the Recovery, but When it boots, it goes back to the Reboot Loop.
Can someone Please Help me!

You have to extract the boot.img from mean rom and use fastboot to install it. premo15's first link also talked about using fastboot to install. If you want to install a custom kernel then just take the boot.img out of the fashable zip and use fastboot.

Okay,
I got ADB to Work, but whenever I do an ADB Command, such as adb reboot bootloader. It says Device Not Found, I installed the appropriate drivers and it also makes a device connected sound when I plug in the phone. When I open device manager, it shows all drivers installed.
Can someone help me with this issue, lol, I've been having so many issues with modding this phone....

You can type in adb devices to show connected devices. Make sure Android debugging is on in Settings -> Developer Options.

My Phone will not Boot at all. I cannot Enable ADB Debugging, I can go to the Bootloader Menu or the Recovery Menu.
I pressed fastboot and enabled fastboot-usb, and it made a connecting noise, but with adb, it will say phone not found

Try going into recovery from the bootloader and then try the "adb devices" command. I've noticed that I can't issue adb commands while in fastboot also...not sure why. If you can get it to display your device while in recovery, then you know your communication is good. Go back into fastboot and you should be able to do the "fastboot flash boot" command, but rebooting with the adb command will not work for some reason. After you flash the boot image, there should be an option to reboot on your phone that you can select with the volume keys.

1.5, used Flash image gui, can't restore back up, cant load roms, white htc screen.

Hey guys.
I am assuming my phone is not "bricked" because I can still get to the clockworkmod interface and mount usb and things like that, but I cant get any roms to load. I followed all the instructions and multiple videos to make sure I did my 1.5 right. Seems to be find as far as root. When I logged in to my old backup i had superuser and all.
I tried to install the WARM rom, but didnt work, so i restored my backup and bought Flash Image GUI which then I loaded the WARM zip and it said it found the Kernel and went to install it. It then asked me to reboot, which I did, and then proceeded to install the rest of the ROM via clockwork install ZIP, after doing that I can no longer even restore my backup.
If i try to load WARM, it just sits at white HTC screen and never changes. If I try to load MIUI, it loads to HTC screen, makes a sound and then goes black forever with backlight on but black and buttons lit.
That is all I can currently do. My backup no longer loads or works.
Is my phone bricked? I dont think so since I can get to clockworkmod, but what can I do to try to get it back up and running?
Thanks,
M374llic4.
Your kernel is most likely the problem. When using the the flash image GUI, dont accept when it asks you to reboot, manually hold down the power button and reboot yourself. Hook up your phone to the computer and boot into fastboot usb and fastboot boot recovery.img then install the warm rom. This will ensure you have access to flash the kernel.

When you rooted your phone, you should have downloaded a folder called newevo3droot or something like that. There's adb files, fastboot..etc and this is how you would have flashed clockworl recovery. Since you are on hboot 1.5, you need to go into fastboot and connect usb so that it says fastboot-usb, then you need to run the command fastboot boot recovery.img. Recovery.img is the name of the recovery image file in that folder. I think it's something like cwm******.img
I did download that, and had some help from someone in the IRC channel and he got me back up up and running! Turns out you have to use USB fastboot on the phone along with fastboot.exe via cmd prompt on the pc with the CWM.exe to load the kernel, then once you do that, you use the phone cwm load from zip to load the rest of the rom and you are good to go!

Yeah, thats what I did with some help from a fellow XDA member via IRC and it worked perfect! I was trying to do it all via the CWM on the phone side only, not via command prompt which was my issue.

[q] help!!!!!! Bricked e3d recovery jacked up stuck in bootloader!!!

For people who came for an answer, here it is.
download android sdk
download fastboot drivers
get clockworkmod img and rename to imgfile.img
put img in adb tools
put adb, adbwinapi, fastboot, and the img file in c:/Android
plug your phone to the computer
enter the bootloader
click on recovery or fastboot doesnt matter since both will now take you to fastboot
goto computer
type in run in start menu
type cmd in run and hit enter
type cd c:\Android
type fastboot boot imgfile.img
you are now in recovery
go to mounts and storage and mount your device as a disk drive
download any rom to your computer doesnt really matter and put in on your sdcard. If you already have a rom on there then just use that.
unmount your phone
go to wipe data/factory reset and when it finishes flash the rom
once rom is done flashing reboot into android again.
your phone is partially fixed
now go to the market (if you flashed cm then flash the gapps.zip) and download "rom manager"
Then click on download clockworkmod 5.0.0.2 or something like that (first option)
Now go to rom manager and restore your backup that u made (If there was 1 before)
now it will be fixed and your bootloader will take u to recovery instead of fastboot when you click recovery xD
thanks xda
I flashed a rom and the rom must have been corrupted or something and now my phone is stuck rebooting and when I try to go to recovery or any option it takes me to fastboot so now my phone is basically bricked
Your phone is not bricked since your still able to turn it on.
Can you enter fasboot USB?

well it doesnt really turn on its a boot loop but whatever and fastboot is weird it doesnt want to work.

Are you S-Off or S-On? If S-Off, download a PG86IMG.zip of a recovery, and use your bootloader to flash recovery. From that point, just restore a backup or reflash a ROM. If you're not S-Off, I'd say you should try running an RUU, since you can't get fastboot to work. But I think you need to relock your device to run an RUU (if you're S on/ HTC Unlocked), so you'd still need fastboot. Do you have a different USB cable to try? I've seen them fail before even though they still work to charge.

Sounds like the drivers arn't installed right.. Like you said if he is S-ON and relocked he can run a RUU exe if he is CDMA...
If you are s off then you just need to reload another recovery. And then access a backup of a rom! Or just flash a new one. I had a issue just like this yesterday where my recovery was broken for some reason and had to go from twrp. 2.1 back to 1.1.1 and load another rom.

Please Help - My phone will not boot after using boot manager.

EXT4 recovery
Unlocked Hboot 1.5 s-on
I was running ZR3Dv2.4b smoothly and tried to use boot manager to boot MIUI. MIUI ran fine, but I could not boot back. I tried to flash a new rom and it would still only boot MIUI. It said data, system, and boot are all unmounted? But said image flashed succesfully. I can remount system and data, but no option for boot. Now I cant even boot back to even MIUI. All I get is the HTC screen.
I also tried to download the first posted link for a 2.17 ruu from this thread; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24268786&postcount=209
Bootloader finished checking it and quickly says wrong zip and brings me back to main bootloader screen.
Please help me us my phone again!
Did you try fastbooting into your recovery. 4ext leaves a copy of the boot.img on your sd card. If you have a sd card reader you should try to extract it, place it on your pc and fastboot into it.
Coming from sense to aosp and back and forth can cause all kinds of headaches.

have you installed boot manager in MIUI from play store? You should boot phone ROM from it.
If you get stuck , all you need to do is flash update.zip located in bootmanger/phonerom folder from recovery, if you are s-on you can't flash the update.zip without booting recovery from fastboot or without using 4ext recovery.....
Next time do a little search outside xda too. The boot manager's site has a guide and faqs and solutions too.
if you had setup the zr3d rom with bootmanager, flash the same rom again and flash the update.zip.....see if that works
i cannot boot back into any rom. I tried everything in recovery. no matter what my device hangs on the htc screen.
Why not just reformat your sd after backing it up. Then reflash your recovery. Then do a full wipe and flash a rom.

here... take this file im sending you and download it and save it in the same folder as your fastboot and adb files and once its saved there start your phone into the bootloader... the part where you get it to say fasyboot usb... then go to your computer and PM me from three ill give you further instructions to fix it and then relock it if you choose to
You don't flash an exe you run it from your pc while your phone is plugged in and on charge mode only. Also make sure usb debugging is checked. Also the reason why I suggest to flash a new recovery or reflash your current recovery is that sometimes recoveries can become corrupt. Just because you can flash doesn't mean your recovery is functioning the way it should. So rather than try to figure out if your recovery is corrupt it takes like 5min to reflash it. That way you rule out your recovery as being the culprit.

[Q] adb and fastboot *device not found*

I recently went from being HTC Dev unlocked 1.58 to JuopunutBear S-Off. Before I was able to do fastboot commands but coundn't flash a recovery. I figured that maybe doing Jbear might do something for the issue since I wanted to S-Off anyway. Due to some ignorance I did the Jbear process and wiretrick to achieve S-off. But, Instead of using a Jbear Bootloader I though I could downgrade also by flashing a 1.13 RUU. I did it and my phone worked. When I went to the bootloader it read: S-Off 1.40 ect. (with no Locked/Unlocked bar at top). I wanted to flash a ROM and it didn't work so I thought i should try to unlock the phone bootloader. This did not work.
I then found out I had to use a Jbear bootloader and I am now on: Hboot 1.50.5050 with S-Off and (Joupunutbear) at top. Now whenever I try to use fastboot or adb commands I get the error *device not found* or -waiting for device-. I want to flash a recovery and then a rom but neither is possible now.
Things I have researched and checked:
1. htc sync drivers work/are up to date(i used them before this issue occurred and have tried others)
2. usb debugging is on.
3. I can not do a logcat. I get the same error.
4. I tried to install the recovery through the rom manager app but it got the same error.
Any help in advance would be appreciated.
(I apologize if there is already a solution on the site. I have searched to the best of my ability.)
If your phone boots up, go to developer options and make sure android debugging is enabled
Otherwise, it sounds like you are in boot loader. You need to navigate to fast boot
Then when your USB is connected it should read fast boot USB
Flash recovery
Make a backup
Wipe all partition except SD
Flash ROM/gapps whatever
Reboot

I have rooted my two previous phones, one of them being HTC android so I have some experience. What I'm saying is that I have usb debugging on and I boot to bootloader, then fastboot and get fastboot-usb.
Despite doing everything correctly it still gives errors with the device. For example, i tried again this morning and waited until it said -waiting for device- to go into fastboot and it did something different:
* attached an image of my commands since I coundn't link them. (new user)
the second command is what happens when i start in fastboot usb.
All commands dealing with fastboot result in *Device not found*
Thanks for the response, I understand those common issues get posted a lot.

Stuck in Recovery/Bootloader

I have S-off, Unlocked Bootloader, and my EVO is rooted. I have HBOOT 2.09
I tried to install Vanir so I flashed the Gapps 4.4 in TWRP which seemed to work, then I tried to flash Vanir after and got an error.
Now no matter what I do I boot right into recovery and can't seem to figure my way out. Clearly I'm in over my head so if someone could just help me get back to stock at least I would really appreciate it. Thanks
Did you install the proper twrp for kitkat.. if so just try flashing the Rom first then let it boot up and sit for a minute.. then boot back into recovery and flash gapps this works for me..

Even though you use TWRP 2.6.3.0, it has to be a modded one that allows SELinux support.
Click Me -Flash the Recovery in the OP of this thread
If you have a working fastboot and adb environment on your computer you can flash it by going to to fastboot USB in the bootloader of your phone, and make sure your phone is connected to your PC properly.
Place the .img file in your adb and fastboot folder and then open a command prompt from that location.
then type fastboot flash recovery "recoveryfilename.img" and ofcourse replace recoveryfilename with the actual filename.
after that reboot into recovery and try reflashing Vanir.
This is the method I use to flash recoveries, its fairly simple and fast in my opinion.
Hope this helps.
