T-Mobile: SIII vs. One S - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I'm switching to T-Mo hopefully within a couple of weeks, and I really like the S3 and the One S. I like the S3 more, but I don't know if it's worth the extra $130. Opinions?

The SGS3 is for sure worth it. Fantastic phone!!

No doubt about choosing s3

If you're cost conscious, get the Galaxy Nexus for $350 from Play with t-mobile's $30/month, 100 minute 5GB prepaid plan (supplementing the 100 minutes with a google voice caller like groove ip). Over the course of two years, the lower plan cost would save you approximately $1000 (assuming that you would've otherwise gotten an $80 plan, not unrealistic including taxes).
Why the Galaxy Nexus? Because it's pentaband. Unfortunately the unlocked versions of the S3 and One X don't support t-mobile's frequencies as far as I know. You could buy the t-mobile version up front, but you'll eat an extra $300 that way for a phone that won't even work with any other carriers if you change your mind. You'd still save $700ish, but it's hardly ideal.

I own a One S and have used an S3. My opinion is that the S3 is only superior in its display. Speed-wise, the S3 and One S are neck and neck. Some tests even show the One S beating out the S3.
At the speeds these phones are at, you won't notice a difference in the overall experience between the 2. However, most people tend to get the S3, since it's the newer phone and has the nicer screen. I personally chose the One S since its screen is only 4.3 inches, which makes it much more comfortable to hold.
Either way, you can't go wrong. Both have good mod support and plenty of ROMs that range from modded stock ROMs, all the way to CM10/AOKP/AOSP roms.

I'm waiting for the Two hah
Seriously though non-expandable memory kinda kills it for me on the One S and reading the display isn't as sharp as the s3 is a deal breaker for me. One S with non-removable battery cover? Sealed? Ugh what a nightmare..

my answer is different.
if you have big hands or like touchwiz, then use gs3, BUT if you don't have that big of hands(me), or like sense 4(me), then use one s as that is smaller
and even though gs3 has removable storage, it still cannot be used as ext. so all the people you hear saying that sd card is good, I have just shot down half their aurgument
so if you buy an 8 gig galaxy s 3, you actually have less storage space than a one s as you 64 gb SD card is useless except for games and movies
so recap: if you has big hands then get galaxy s 3, if you has small hands get one s
or be me and wait for htc one x+

an external sd can also be used as swap partition serving as more ram. you can also install your apps on the sd card instead of internal memory. s3 is probably the best phone out there so far.

S3!!! HTC uses cheap material, i had the HTC G2 and thats my last!

I need a new Android phone, what should I get?

My Desire is starting to feel really outdated due to the tiny amount of internal storage so I'd like to pick up something new. I know there is a Desire HD which looks pretty good, does anyone know if they have a version of it that works with US AT&T 3G (it has to be made for Telstra or Telus since they run the same bands)?
Would you guys recommend the Desire HD? Or would you recommend something else over it? It has to be GSM, work with US AT&T 3G, have lots of internal storage space, and I need to be able to buy it unlocked online. I'm willing to spend about $600 USD or so (but feel free to suggest cheaper phones or more expensive phones if you think I'd like them better).
I'm using a Desire as well.. damn good phone, but yes, its getting very dated, even with running Cm7 and tweaking it to hell for performance lol I'm in canada, but I'm picking up a Galaxy S II next friday. I dont think it's out there yet, but it is due out soon iirc. Id seriously wait for it if you have the money. I've been looking alot, comparing several different phones, but it seems the SGS2 just leads the pack currently, and by quite a bit from the reviews. There are free easy unlock methods online (a couple right on the market) and you can use it on whatever networks you want (our version works across all networks in canada)
I just bought a galaxy s2 from amazon unlocked for 650. It works on att 3g and it's the most future proof phone on three market, but if you hold out you might get a hold of the nexus prime in a couple months. Also if you want something cheaper buy the inspire 4g on ebay or somewhere else. It is the desire hd with att branding and.att.3g bands. Also the development on that phoney is sick. I just sold mine or I would offer it to you for what I sold it for (200).

^ I'll check out the Inspire. If it's AT&T branded, does that mean they'll have a bunch of useless AT&T links/apps all over, and dev features locked? And will AT&T recognize it as a smart phone (because they don't recognize the Desire as smart phone so I get to use the cheap $15 unlimited internet plan).
To be honest I would like to get an HTC if possible because my last 5 phones have been HTC and I'm basically a fanboy now, lol.

AT&T will recognize it as a smart phone, you should be able to keep your data plan though. Make sure they let you keep your unlimited plan, if the associate can't help ask to talk to a manager, they won't force you to use a limited plan if you already have an unlimited plan. Just make sure you keep the plan cause once it's gone you won't get it back.
The Inspire will come with AT&T crap but that's all easily removed through custom ROM's. The Inspire supports most Desire HD ROM's and visa-a-versa. The Inspire/Desire HD has probably the best developer support of any smart phone, it's a good phone, but the battery is small (1230mAh) and has a huge, battery eating 4.3" display. A lot of people complain about the Inspire's battery life, if you need to make it past a day with moderate usage then stay away from it. Still a good phone though.
I currently have the Atrix 4G and I love it, check it out. The Samsung Galaxy S II looks to be a great phone also.
I'm looking up Inspires on eBay and they're ridiculously cheap (around $300 USD), for example http://www.ebay.com/itm/HTC-Inspire...0600720825?pt=Cell_Phones&hash=item43a92719b9
Is this right? When I bought my Desire it was around $600, even the Hero was more than 300, I can't believe the Inspire would be so cheap.
Do branded phones have any features locked, such as usb debugging, installation of non-market apps, etc. or can you do all of those things on them? I am one of those people who likes to stick to stock roms if possible, so I can live with a couple of silly AT&T ringtone apps and whatnot but I can't live with important features missing.
The Inspire is rediculously cheap because it is verging on the older side now after being out for a couple of months, and it isn't dual core. As far as I know, the only locked feature on the Inspire was the install unknown sources, but I think they have already allowed that via an ota update.
About your unlimited plan, yes. You will be able to keep it, and if the rep talking to you says that it isn't possible, ask to talk to their manager or just call back for a different rep. The thing is, your $15 Media Net Unlimited plan is not available for smartphones. They will bump you up the the $30 Unlimited Smartphone plan.
I have the Atrix 4G on AT&T's network. I bought it with a contract ($100) but IIRC they are available online unlocked for $400-600. Really great phone: Lightweight, dual-core, and it looks pretty good too. Although I heard the SGSII was the best Android phone to buy nowadays.

Hmm, that's not good. So that puts the actual price of the Inspire around $500 (adding in just under 200 for 1 year of the upgraded plan). Right now since the Desire isn't available here I can use it with the cheap plan and still get 3G. Are there any other comparable phones to the Inspire that AT&T doesn't have and that I can run the cheap plan on?
if you can find an unlocked/unbranded xperia play (aka: playstation phone) you should be able to use it on at&t. the only problem is it only has like 350 MegaBytes of internal storage, but it does come with an 8 GigaByte microsd card. it's my current phone (plus it's rooted {and themed with my own custom yellow glow theme}) it's pretty fast, and with root when you delete all the bloatware it gets almost 2 times the battery life . another thing is it isn't dual core (but who gives a crap with playstation controls) heres more info http://www.sonyericsson.com/play/?cc=us&lc=en&cid=sea_xplaylaunch_us_20110206_Google
note: this is MY opinion (never said anybody else agrees). so if you don't agree, go write in your diary or post your disagreeing opinion elsewhere.
edit: nevermind, figured out what was causing the issue
I'd probably also wait for the Nexus Prime.
And you might want to think about that Xiami M1 phone, that is about to come out, you won't find one, that is able to compete price/perfomance.
We'll have to see, how this one actually turns out to be. It it's good, it will at least replayce MY Desire!

I wouldn't go for the Xperia Play. There's already been talks about it going to AT&T sometime in Q4 2011, and when it does, they'll likely bump you up to a smartphone plan as well. I got caught with the X10. I picked up an unlocked Rogers version a few months before AT&T released it, and the week before it came out, it detected my IMEI and switched me over.

low resale value

Hello fellow noters
I recently out of decided to sell my galaxy note to get the nexus 4 ( to use on simple mobile) and to my dismay the g-note i717 has a really really low resale value. From what I have seen on ebay and craigslist the average cost for a i717 is around the low 300s, which for me is bad, Very bad. If you take into account the money that paypal and ebay take for the commission of the sale you are left with 250 something. This probably has to do with the release of the note2 only 6 months later than the original note.
I'm not complaining because this is still a great device but the loss of value took me by surprise, but I will definitely think twice before getting another Samsung device close to its release date.
In conclusion my friends I would advice you that if you want a Samsung device wait 4-6 months and buy it out of contract for 1/2 the price and if you are planning on reselling it later take a deep breath before looking for the resale values.
IMHO I see the Nexus 4 as a Downgrade from the Galaxy Note 1...
NO SD CARD.
Non-Removeable Battery
Max 16 Gigs of Storage.. Max..
Smaller Screen....
But.. Enjoy
All android phones lose there value fast because theres a new better one every week. The reason something like iphone hold there value so long is because there is only 1 a yr.

I see it as a huge upgrade because
I don't need more than 16GB of storage because I don't put 50000 songs on my phone when I don't listen to them all anyways.
I don't really need to remove the battery ever, and it has better battery life than my note which is horribly awful.
It has android 4.2 official from the get go, and will get future android updates a week or so after announcement. Current note doesn't have official 4.1 yet, and 4.2 is out! And CM10 is still not stable. I'm so done waiting 6 months for an android update, especially with how awesome the changes have become.
Screen is a bit smaller yes, but it's higher PPI.
2GB of RAM is very necessary for anyone who is a power user. I constantly have to reload apps.
Quad core krait is awesome and should never lag. note1 lags often.
It doesn't have LTE which does actually suck but will be better for battery life and HSPA 42 in Canada is pretty good
And it's $350!
You could argue the Note2 is a better phone than the nexus4 and in many ways it is, but I still think getting android updates is more important for me. And the price is great.
I'll be selling my note1 for $300 next week. It's lower than I'd like but allows me to upgrade to the nexus4 for very cheap!
Sound Like They're Getting Your Money.
I"ll Keep My Note *1* And My $30.00 A Month T-Mo Plan And Jamie's ParanoidAndroid JellyBean Rom All Day Long Over A Phone That Won't Allow Me To Expand My Memory Forcing Me To "The Cloud" And Not Even Allowing Me Access To My Phone's Battery Making Me A *Slave* To A Charging Outlet...
Enjoy Your Nexus 4....
The main reason I'm switching is because even with the blaze radios my speeds are very very slow. I am going to miss the spen, and my 32 gb sd card but due to the lack of support from Sammy to their devices and the low resale value I refuse to spend 700$ on a note 2.
The reason for this post is to tell you guys to get prepared for the loss of value when you try to upgrade from the note.

I bought my og note when att was doing their $50 refurb note upgrade deal. Mines legit very rarely reboots even at 1836mhz . I'm gonna wait till something better is available for another deal like that. Then you don't have to trip on ever losing money.

Thanks for the suggestions, but I don't like contracts much less with att. This is mostly for people like me that buy off contract and use pre paid that the depreciation of the phone affect us. IMO signing a contract with att or Verizon is like selling your soul for a discount on a device you end up paying triple by the end.
that sucks you should have waited and sold it on CL and would have received more money...You were in to much of a hurry to sell if that you lost money...Everyone else is getting 350 min for there device....And the nexus 4 sucks...YOUR complaining the note 1 has no value??? Good luck selling that Lg phone.. lmao...you'll get 100 dollars for that LG ...You make no sense...Note 2 crushes that toy!

I haven't sold it yet and I'm not complaining, I love this thing. I don't really mind if the nexus loses value because it only costs 350$, but that is another topic.
the Note does have a low resale value if you take in to account that it used to cost around 700$ and now you have to negotiate with someone to barely get half of your investment. Samsung products do devaluate quite fast because they flood the market with their phones, release new version every 6 months and they give retailers the option to sell the phone at the price they want. I got an S3 four months ago for 615 and I went to the same store today and saw it for 500. There is nothing bad with that, if you use it to your advantage and wait a while to get a great product for 2/3 of the its first retail price.

How do you figure it is triple? I have been on At&t since 1994. Not going to change. Have 5 lines with them. Always had great service. It would make no.sense not to get it subsidized for me. Going to to pay same price for service whether off or on contract.
from a galaxy far far away....
The triple is for the overpaying the service (I used to pay 120 more or less monthly on att for the past 5 years now I pay 50 everything unlimited) and if att works for you awesome, but all of this talk about subsidizing strays from the fact that the note devaluates pretty fast.
I've never seen a phone hold value...Technology is constanly upgraded and replacing other models every month..Just the way it is..Computers are worth half as less in about 3 months as well...
Ello mate!
Honestly if you want to sell your note then that's perfectly fine. You don't need to justify your decision to sell to the people on this forum because what is it to them if you sell or keep? Lol I don't know why people get butt hurt over it when it has nothing to do with them. Will they be using the phone or is it for you? Also don't let people's opinions discourage you. The nexus 4 is awesome and I want to get one as well....note is great but i have decided it's just too big for me. I am a very active person and it is actually getting in the way rather than simplifying my life. Can't go running with it. Can't take it to the gym..nope! Can't walk around the gym with the note in my gym shorts lol. I don't want to shell out additional money for another mp3 player.
I agree with you on the resale value. I put mine up on Craigslist for 430 and got so many low ball offers it's ridiculous. I am just going to keep it now ... meh.
I am buying a Note II this week, but only because my corp plan lets me it it for $200. The Spousal Unit would never allow a $750 + tax phone purchase in this house.
If I get $300 for the Note I then I am happy, since it lets me purchase the next upgrade for next to nothing.
That said, I am thinking of holding on to the Note I until December when the official JB comes out. The Note I does lag on stock rom a bit (never tried the custom JB ones), and I want to be able to sell it to non-XDA folks with full S-pen support. I am thinking that the Note I stock experience will be much better in December, and that if I show it to a couple of people I know they will be happier with it then. If an offer comes by before then, I'll let it go at that time I suppose.
My brother just sold his Note for $300 to a guy in Sudbury. He was a bit disappointed as well.
I told him it's a niche phone with low demand in a small market.

Read the important part in red which you missed. If you have ONE LINE, non-contract makes sense in some cases. If you have more than one, nope.
As for the OP's whinge, who cares, everything that isn't a "durable product" devalues fast, think about how many THOUSANDS your car devalues the second it's "used".

100% true! the nexus 4 will be worth nothing as Google drops its price, and I sold one of my skyrockets for 350 on Craig's list so I'd sell my note 1 for $400 up, and I'm in Fl too. Its all about the condition of the phone. If your note is mint like mine you'll sell it for $400 cause people will rather pay $400 for perfect condition than $300 for some old scratched up junk. In 6 mo. Your $350 nexus will be worth $199 or less cause its used. How's that for devaluation.

Does it matter? There are a variety of reasons someone would want more than 16gb internal. Even with the extra 64gb, I am pretty sure I will max mine out almost instantly when I get it. Some people use more memory than others.
And no, no word on the 32gb model yet.

Yes, I have tons of data, including files needed for school, work, entertainment since I'm gone almost all day, every day.
50gb of dropbox data is nice, but I like to be able to always access the files physically on my device. Additionally, I have tons of data and this is barely 1% of what I have. Also, for obvious reasons, it is better to have apps installed on the internal opposed to the SD, but 10gb is not that much. The point is Samsung/or the carriers should have delivered on this. Aside from KR and JP, it doesn't seem like any one else got the 64gb version. If that is the case, Samsung may as well say they have a 1tb version of the phone.
I have a macbook ultra, as well, but loathe lugging it around all day. Sometimes it is just nice to have one device that does it all without having to constantly hook it up to the computer, delete files, etc. etc. Aside from that, I don't really question how others use their phone, but can see the need for more data. I know I wouldn't be a [email protected]@ss and tell others to reevaulate their phone usage, though, especially when Samsung makes variants with more available data.
The Verizon Rep said that Galaxy Note 2 on Verizon, like with other USA carriers, will be only 16gb internal storage for right now.
But I do agree that these devices are our computers on the go. So even with 16/32gb SD card the 16gb internal storage is really not much when you see it that way.
Why Samsung thinks that Americans only want 16gbs of internal storage? I don't know. But the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is still the most awesome device at this point in time. Just which service provider do I want (stay with Verizon or go for T-Mobile?).?

If you use 50gb or more per month on Verizon to access that 50gb Dropbox your bill will be sky high. Until we truly get true unlimited data, data storage within your device/s becomes vital. I understand that you have SD card. But system internal memory is much faster. That is where you want as much data for your apps to be. So the more internal memory the less of a need for your apps to store its data within your SD card and the faster the apps can get to its own data. This allowing you to use your SD card space to store music, podcasts, videos, documents, etc. This way you won't have such of a high bill accessing your data in the cloud.
When it comes to rethinking the usage and needs of any PPC aka Pocket Personal Computer aka Smartphone, I don't see limiting the usage with the device but I see using the device to benefit me. These devices are really PPC aka Pocket Personal Computers with both cellular and WiFi radios. So why not use these devices as a Pocket Personal Computer? A computer you can listen to music, Internet radio, podcasts, watch videos, video podcasts, create and edit documents, manage your daily life, communicate and keep up with other people, give your self a relaxing break, store your data, and so on... So why not use your PPC aka Pocket Personal Computer the same way? The only difference is that your PPC is a mobile device with cellular radio that is with you at all times and is smaller. Smaller size and having a cellular radio (for voice and data) allows the computer device to be mobile for you. And having a mobile Pocket Personal Computer allows you to manage your life and do the other stuff on the go where you need and want them. That making these Pocket Personal Computer devices even more important to have the local space for your stuff and for the applications' data.
I would have to say to you "Rethink what these Android devices really are and what you can do with them having more data storage space, including more internal memory space." And don't be fooled by the fact that these devices have cellular radio. They are really Pocket Personal Computers aka PPC. I personally feel that Samsung Galaxy Note 2's features really makes that point clear.

The Verizon Rep said that Galaxy Note 2 on Verizon, like with other USA carriers, will be only 16gb internal memory for right now.
But I do agree that these devices are our computers on the go. So even with 16/32gb SD card the 16gb internal memory is really not much when you see it that way.
Why Samsung thinks that Americans only want 16gbs of internal memory? I don't know. But the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is still the most awesome device at this point in time. Just which service provider do I want (stay with Verizon or go for T-Mobile?).?
---------- Post added at 10:39 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:08 AM ----------
If you use 50gb or more per month on Verizon to access that 50gb Dropbox your bill will be sky high.
Alright everywhere has wifi now. Why use 4G LTE when it drains the battery and really isn't anything special. Maybe when you're on the road and can't access it, or if you don't have wifi at home. Not everyone is going to use their data on accessing that dropbox,
I never go over 2-3gb and i'm constant checking email, facebook, netflix, etc. On and off data.
Maybe it's just me, but i dont see how people use so much data or space.

Because there are people on the go. That means that you are not at home at your WiFi or sitting at the Cafe shop w/ WiFi. And most work places don't allow to use their WiFi, if they have it. That is the reason for the cellular radio to have access to voice and data where & when you need and want it. These device are not for people that stay at home. That is what tablets are for. These PPC devices are for the busy people on the go. That is where you need and want the data and other stuff when you want it without having to pay the large bill to access it. That is where large local data storage on the PPC devices becomes valuable and vital.
If you are just using the device to check email, facebook and watch netflix only, then why use such a powerful productivity and power user device as the Gallaxy Note 2? The features of this device is really designed for the busy people on the go, heavy business users, gamers, heavy media users, artist types, and for the geeks (basically for the power users).
This is where I find the divide between the casual users and the power users. Casual users don't really do anything with their device that they couldn't do with a feature phone. This makes PPC aka Smartphone a true waste for the casual user. While the power users really need the storage space and functionality of the PPC aka Smartphone devices. Another issue is calling Pocket Personal Computers as "Smartphone" devices. Microsoft was trying to compete with Apple's, back then as the new, iPhone. So Microsoft came up with the term "Smartphone" to dumb down the cellular Pocket Personal Computers to be more marketable to the casual user as a more friendly device. That was the big mistake that caused people to think of these devices as more of a "phone" than a computer. This also causes this same divide in the current world of Android.
There are number of true power users that need the functionality, large storage, high CPU power, large RAM, and the power of having a true computer in their hands at all times to need the PPC device. And there are a much larger number of casual users that don't need the PPC devices, more of a feature phone types, that uses PPC devices because they cooler to use. Those casual users are the ones that bring the sales higher, but still can't relate to the power users. This is the same story with laptop and desktop computers.
But just understand what you are holding is really a computer and not just a phone with features.

Does it matter? There are a variety of reasons someone would want more than 16gb internal. Even with the extra 64gb, I am pretty sure I will max mine out almost instantly when I get it. Some people use more memory than others.
And no, no word on the 32gb model yet.

I agree. I'm worried that as soon as I start downloading all of my apps, I will be out of storage. On my 16GB Nexus 7, I couldn't download all of the apps that I have on my Galaxy Nexus before I got a low storage warning. I have the basic apps I use daily, and then several games that are rather large. I don't like being limited by the storage, but there is supposedly a work around that can switch the internal memory to the SD card memory so that storage isn't an issue.
The only thing I've heard about the 32GB and 64GB is that Verizon will most likely not sell those versions unless the 16GB versions sales warrant adding those models. However, that could just be rumor. I doubt that if they do decide to release those versions, it wont be any time before the New Year.
I ask because I'm trading up from a 32gb gs3. I just don't want to feel like a step back. I know I could not be lazy and move rom files and stuff to the 64gb card I have but I can't help but feel it's a step back... Blah.

Once rooted, it may just be a build.prop edit, really.. The free space stays afterwards anyway.
I had a Tmo Note 2 for a week, canceled the service and returned the phone due to service issues, and still have the space.

I don't load up that many Apps for 16gigs to be a concern. The only time I run into problems is when I want to load up a 4gig plus movie on my Nexus 7. With the Note 2 sd card slot the majority of people will not have this issue.
Plus I don't see a $400 Note 2 32gig being a big seller on Verizon. $300 is the max I would pay right now.

I'm sure they'll bring one out eventually and lower the price of the current Note 2 when they do. My guess is it will be $250/$300 and happen around February, but it's just a guess.

It isn't an Apple product, lol. I would expect the 16gb only to be $50 more. 349.99 which imo, is still a bit much, though. I think the Note2 should've been priced at 249.99 and 300 for the 32gb.

I wouldn't count on that for a few reasons:
1.) as advertised the msd slot will make it so many people do not have this issue.
2.) i don't know why you think that'll happen around feb. the s3 hasn't had a price drop yet either and that phone has been out approx. 3-4 months. so in feb the note 2 will have been out 3-4 months, so i don't know why they would slash the price just so they can give us a phone with more memory for the same price.
3.) they are already talking about the S4 in March 2013, so if the phone releases in <1 year, there will be no point for upgrading the memory to 32gb on the N2 since anyone looking to upgrade probably will just wait for the N3.
4.) as said, depends on the #'s of N2's they sell. i don't think this phone will sell extremely well compared to iP5/S3, so i don't see why they would even care about releasing the 32/64 variants since it won't bring in that much extra revenue.
5.) so far, isn't jp and kr the only countries that have different variants in terms of memory? last time i was on the international n2 board, it seems like almost people only had the 16gb version.
6.) vzw sucks

1.) The GS3 has a slot and they still have the options. Onboard ROM is faster and also some people would want the extra storage for music.
2.) I wouldn't be surprised if they lowered it around then due to competitor's phones - and to entice people to buy it that haven't. Just like they are adding color options to the S3. The success of this phone will definitely lead to other manufacturers getting in on the 5.5" scene.
3.) Most people aren't going to wait 6 months or so to upgrade.
4.) They already sold over 3 million before AT&T (and Verizon) got it. This phone is selling more than they expected, I'd bet.
5.) Since they already have the added memory in the GS3, putting it in the Note 2 won't cost much - it's not like they'll have to use anything new.
It shouldn't surprise anyone if a 32GB eventually comes out. I wouldn't wait on it or anything but it's definitely quite possible.

1.) gs3 is a lot more marketable. even though we all love n2, most likely will not appeal to the masses. it is like if they made an iP5 that is 5.5", i wouldn't expect it to outsell the iP5.
2.) i would. vzw touts superior coverage + better LTE speeds. they will just say this comes with the territory.
3.) 6 months? who knows when the N3 will be announced. if all goes according to the rumor mill about S4 we could expect that as early as march 2012. if they announced the n3 on the same timeline as the s4 (which obviously i doubt) then i bet many people will wait out for the n3. of course people who don't know may snatch up the note, but i'd bet those people are just up for upgrade and i'm placing my money on more people having upgrades available to them during late q3/early q4 opposed to early q1 where we see a lot less phones being released. obv. companies want to cash in during the holiday season.
4.) still not over >30 mil like the s3. the #'s are good for a phone this size, but then again maybe some people will switch after having a 5.5" phone on next upgrade since there are not many phones available on this size. i think the sweet spot now seems to be around 5"... the n2 is huge in comparison to most phones, even the s3.
5.) like you said, 10 mil sold and the only place you can really pick up a bigger variant is in kr/jp. samsung has advertised it in various nations in various sizes, but there is little to no reason why they advertise it coming in those sizes/not having any stock available. there was a guy who got torn apart in another part of this forum for creating a petition for samsung to release the bigger sized variants. i would say with the expandable memory most people will not care about this. i don't think many people are going to wait to upgrade 3-4 months for a bigger sized variant/it might not be worth it to release it later in terms of sales. it isn't like i said an ip5 or s3 which sell like hotcakes.

not confirmed. it doesn't say us, either. positive step in the right direction though, even though i don't think any carrier in the usa offers the 6 variant colors of the s3

During the past two weeks I have spoken to two people in upper management at Verizon Wireless regarding the GN2 release. This post is for those that care about the conversation.
Both conversations happened with individuals no further than 3 levels down from the CEO. Keep in mind that many of the same questions were asked or mentioned multiple times and the same answer was not always repeated and thus I had to read between the lines.
Here is what I gathered.
Verizon did not sell the Note 1 (as we know) and was not confident enough that it would work on their network as planned so instead of releasing it when other carriers did, it instead allowed 1) field testers to use it for the past month as they have with much success and 2) allow US Cellular to sell the gray version (to test) since they share many towers.
Realizing the white version is much more popular, US Cellular is not allowed to release it until/after Verizon does (to avoid customers switching to US Cellular). Apparently Verizon and US Cellular share A LOT of towers and if you are in an area without VZLTE, USC may be a better option.
The release is targeted for Christmas shopping and VZ did not see enough demand to warrant releasing it any earlier (ie: prior to Thanksgiving). Given the comment that was made about needing to test the phone, I'm not sure this would have even been an option.
Throughout both calls, both mention that the phone will be released on the 27th and also will be shipped on the 27th but also mentioned that it will be released on the 29th. I purposely did not try to pin down a date since what we have heard is that it will ship by the 27th and release on the 29th. I'm not familiar with Verizon so I'm not sure if a Tuesday release is possible. The Droid DNA is to be released on November 21 so we know Wednesday is an option.
All of this does not help us get our phone any sooner but I ended both conversations felling more aware of why Verizon postponed the release and confident that it will be my next carrier on the 27/29th of November."

I normally use 32gb SD Anyways.
So I am between a HTC One 32gb 100 down 20 a month or 150 down for the s4 and 20 a month.
Jb is not handling sd quite the same... It's been relegated to a more useless "non-live" storage
Not completely accurate.. But essentially accurate... Go with the htc one or wait for someone to break the rules with a good phone.... Google is pushing cloud and removal of sd & removable battery..
Just wait and see

What's wrong with the nexus 4? Mine with a modded rom, good kernel and the right tweaks works perfectly, I'm yet to see a problem with it.
I've heard good things about the htc one. I would go with the n4 though because of the price and superior value. All of them are great phones and you can't go wrong with any of them in my opinion.

So everyone is in agreement, don't go with Insurion for a replacement which cost 150.
My friend loves the N4, but was always plagued with issues with it. Stuff wouldn't work on 7 different devices. WHen one would work he would call up his insurance and get a replacement. He went through 7 before they finally gave him a Sony phone. Problems range from touchscreen not working, then the audio jack, then it wouldnt turn on, poor signal, random reboots, I thought it was a good phone too.
I'm seeing a lot of hate with the S4. I can understand the internal SD not being quite 16gb. But I would always use an SD card anyways.
I am a little afraid of the ONE simply because all LITH batteries wear out after 1 year of use. So i would need to replace the whole phone after 1 year of usage, if not less, and get a refurbish one through warranty.
I do not know much about the S4 other then it looks like a good phone, changeable battery and added sd card slot.
I went with an S4, ONE was not available ;/
SD cards are nowhere near as fast as onboard memory, remember that. Factor of the N4, I guess he just wasn't lucky, mine works fine. Loving my one too btw, I don't keep phone past 6 months, so battery issues haven't been a problem of mine.

Thanks everyone for giving me your opinions. Obviously 150 bucks was not worth coughing up for the Amaze. I just bought a new car so having to pay any amount right now was not a welcome one. I got my S4 last night, jesus.... beautiful phone. I kid you not, 5 minutes to flash recovery and load a new custom rom.
I will say this, not happy about the internal memory availability. But I was going to buy an SD card anyways.
Those thinking about getting an S4, you simply can not go wrong, and boy is there a huge difference even between the S3 to the S4.
200 bucks down payment, 20 bucks a month, since I am on the old school plan, tmobil is including those 20 bucks in my current bill. In essence, I got the phone for 200 bucks.

Nice! Also you can just find a rom that has the bloat removed completely or get an app like nobloat free to help remove it. That would solve the problem with the memory.

My Options are:
Repair current Motorola Razr M 8 GB cracked screen ($45)
HTC Rezound 16 GB $50-70
Samsung Nexus 32 GB $60
or keep looking/negotiate price on Rezound or Nexus more.
My Nieces requests are
Bigger Screen (if possible, but preferably smaller then 5 in. *Moto G, Nexus*)
Front Facing Camera
Hairline Cracks are ok (if she can get a newer more powerful phone for less)

I would recommend the Moto G (1st generation) over everything else. It's significantly better than everything you listed, and you will get Android L without having a ROM. Plus, more features, warranty, official support, and it's much faster.

I don't mind prepaid but Verizon wont let people use a prepaid phone on a contract unless it has been active on a prepaid account for 6 or more months.
Go with the Galaxy Nexus for the money, if you are stuck in a contract... I loved my Rezound, but honestly GN is a nice phone as well.
If your not in a contract, why stay with Verizon? I jumped ship from them some time back and couldn't be happier, there are tons of new GSM phones you can get that are quite reasonable and prepaid @ $45 for unlimited talk, text, and data (2.5GB at high speed) is pretty nice.
