video codec- u can either use H264 or H263

or you can just use Handbrake (google it) and use the settings for the iPod Touch.
MediaGo
you can also use MediaGo, launched from PC Companion, to import video clips from pc to your phone. However, I found that it will create a different folder for music/video you import, instead of the normal folder you are already using.
i have found that it can play 640x480 resol. mp4 videos smoothly..by default...use hand brake to convert it or u cn use winavi ipod mp4 converter.....suite urself..nd for avi files rockplayer cn play all resolutions of avi smoothly....unless u r using a custom rom...in which it might crash sometimes....and as far as flv files are concerned they r restricted to a resolution of 320x240 only, beyond it the player would lag......
or use MoboPlayer (free in market).
operate various types, including flv, avi and mkv with subtitles.

[Q] camera video recording format?

hi,
can i change the format of saving videos? which format is better in your opinion? 3gp, avi, divx .. ?
thanks
Which format really depends on what you want to record the videos for, i.e. playback on TV, playback on iPod, etc.
Current formats are MPEG4 and H.264 recording I believe. MPEG4, H.263, H.264, DivX, XviD, WMV for playback.
This is what's in the specs, but I haven't checked them all.
Use handbreak to convert it. It is an excellent app for mac and windows.

[Q] What is the video codec used

Hi,
I wanted to play a video recorded by SGS2 in .mp4 format, but it looks like nothing out there can support it. It plays without any problems on the phone, but VLC, WMP and even WinAmp can't recognize the codec used. My question is - what is the video codec and is there anything that can play/convert it?
The *.MP4 file is a wrapper that binds both the video and audio + subtitles file.
Depending on the resolution, it can also be a *.3GP file.
*.MP4 usually uses H.264 video compression and AAC for audio format.
*.3GP stores video streams of H.263 or AVC/H.264 format, and AMR audio format.
In Windows 7, H.264 is supported without requiring to install any codecs.
3GP however is not supported in Windows 7.
If you are using Windows XP, you not only need the H.264 codec, you also need a MP4 splitter. As for 3GP, you need a codec for that as well.
Haali Media Splitter is useful for both MP4 and MKV files as a splitter.
FFDShow is a great all in one codec package for H.264, x.264, H.263.

Video codec: H264 MPEG4 (AVC)
Audio codec: MPEG AAC (mp4a)
I have no problem to play my mp4 files recorded by using my SGS2 with VLC.
Maybe you should check for an update of your VLC media player.

[Q] Your preferred video file format, resolution for the NT

I would like to know what others are doing as far as encoding video to play on the Nook Tablet. The consensus seems to be the H264 encoding for video? What file format, m4v, mkv?? Does it make a difference? What about audio?
I have heard discussion about HW versus SW playback, what does this mean?
What resolution do you keep your videos in? How large should I expect the average full length movie to be?
usually 720 since they're smaller
2.5gb and mp4 or mkv
using mxvideo
sw btw for mkv and hw for mx vid
hd movies will be about 2-2.5gig
normal dvd's will be ~700meg-2gig(avatar) for h.264 format mp4/mkv

huh? Sorry, still don't get it.
Most videos play fine without converting for me. I just drop it in the tablet and use MX Player.
Also, .mkv is not a video format but a container.

no HD video playback?

I am unable to play any kind of HD video, mp4 Mkv, avi, x264..... anyone have any ideas?
Mplayer
Vplayer
Bsplayer
Mxplayer
Moboplayer
And lots others...
None of them will enable hardware video playback...
Is there a update i am missing?

are you trying to use hardware acceleration? usually software decoder will work, but it drains battery faster and isn't as good.
usually in order to use hardware acceleration your hd videos need to be encoded with the avc hd codec.
honestly it is pointless to play hd videos on the nook tablet screen since the screen is not HD.
So i just convert my videos to mp4 with the avc codec with a 1024x600 resolution. Hardware acceleration works perfectly for me with those settings.
I use the software known as Format Factory to convert my videos. Converted several HD movies fine and quality looks great on the NT.
