Best TW ROM & kernal for Fascinate? - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I need the best, most working, stable ROM & kernal combo available for my fassy, I prefer TW though? I use the phone as a daily driver, mainly I use almost every option that stock offers on a day-to-day basis so it must all be functional... And customization is always a great thing, please comment with any helpful info on this. Any helpful info on this is much appreciated, I dropped my EvO in the lake a week or so ago and had to go buy my Fassy. I am not new to rooting or ROMing phones, but I have found it is most helpful to get others insight on these types of things before trying EVERY ROM for a day or so lol? I am running Baked JB right now, but as I said I'm a little partial to the TW OS, and battery life isnt as fantastic.
Thanks in advance,
Ben :silly:

Try GeeWiz 2.8.1 with its own kernel. It's still Gingerbread though. There aren't any TouchWiz ICS or JB roms out there. You could also try AOKP M6 and install a TouchWiz theme from the play store.

back in the day I was partial to super clean 3 with the stock eh03
kernel (though I can't recall exactly why . Something about the behavior of the backlights?
I'm now running cm10 and loving it. Everything works.

Like scarfman said, geewiz 2.8 is the best TW rom for stability...Superclean 3 was also good , just had to deal with a random reboot.

I'm currently running (pa_fascinate-4.0-BETA-20140103.zip) it's a KitKat 4.4.2 ROM. GAPPS are (pa_gapps-modular-full-4.4.2-20140318-signed.zip). It runs great with no Lag. To install you need to use Team Win Recovery.

Best Rom Galaxy S II ???

I get my S II tomorrow and I've been looking around alot to see what the best rom out is, but there's loads of roms available.
What I'm asking is instead of spending multiple hours going through every rom to find out whats good, whats peoples favorites or what would you recommend,
Stuff I need working -
Camera
Onboard Storage
GPS
(These are musts)
I would preferably like things like overclocking stuff that utilizes the dual core 1.2ghz processor.
Any ideas and thanks in advance
With multiple exact same posts as yours .
One their is no bests rom .
Two read the individual rom threads and make up your own mind.
Three if unable to make up your mind stick with stock .
Four posts belongs Q&A

Camera
Onboard Storage
GPS
You should find they come with the phone not the rom .

Firstly sorry for not noticing the many other posts dedicated to this subject.
Secondary, camera etc may come with the phone but it doesn't specifically come with the rom, I have a Xperia Arc at the moment and the freexperia project doesnt have the camera up and running, so I feel like that was a valid question.
All I was asking is what people are using? What you prefer?
Not an index to what you hate and love about every rom

Coming from HTC Desire, I would of asked exactly the same questions. When new ROMS came out on HTC Desire, or the X10, not everything was working right from the start. Even on the ROMS on this phone it seems not everything is working, so surely the question is valid.
most are just themed roms and don't offer much over a rooted and tweaked stock rom.

The most famous roms have all the features your looking for i believe, Better Camera, overclock 1.6 Ghz, Better GPS etc.
But you can't say which one is best cause they all are different in their own way, specially in themes and so on.

@JJEgan, you were right in the other thread... this is getting ridiculous
@OP: there's really not much difference between them. The different ones are probably CM7, MIUI and Oxygen (they're not stable), the rest just have some modifications, and they mostly are stable with everything working. Just see which one has more views and pick one you think you like. Creating a thread like this has absolutely no point, you will get zero information out of it... even if people start answering you, you'll just get a random sample of what some people are using.
Stock
Just root it and add a kernel like niphetamine - get juicedefender too.
Simples.

Villain Rom 2.4.2 best for me. It's based on stock firmware so gps, camera etc is working fine. Browser is laggy though so use Dolphin HD or another one from the market.
You get Villain tweaks too!
Flash the Ninphetamine kernel as its overclocked to 1.6ghz.
Sorted

True, villain rom is nice - but some of us prefer the stock browser too much. :/
If it wasnt for that, id probably use villain too.

I agree with some of the others in this thread, just stock is best. Samsung polished the firmware really well and its amazing. Id say just flash a custom kernel if you want to do extra stuff like oc/uv or something. Really the only time i ever switch from stock is to try CM7 then or something. Other than that imo stock is best.
GS2 is the first phone where stock meet all my needs. Ive played with a couple of different roms and usually something happens after the first week.
Most roms in dev section give you a all in one package. So must of the tweaks that you would normally install manually are already preinstalled. This is the fun part about android with so many choices, try a couple out first and see what fits your needs.
This is a valid question, the more popular the phone the more hours of searching it takes. CM7 is buggy as hell. Stay away. Stick with stock and just flash a kernel. Samsung did a good job actually with this phone, especially with the skinning in my opinion. It amazes me people buy a super specd phone like this the install ROMS that strip the phone of it's power. CM7 is taking way too long honestly and it's absurd how buggy it is at this point in the phones release history.

Just a little rectification for OP and others: CM7 is an unstable nightly build officially, but it's usable. I have it for a week now, and I haven't had any serious problems. It's stable and I can use it just like the stock ROM, with very few limitations. I'm not going back to other roms for now
Leomar's revolution is amazing. Lots of customised stuff.
VillainROM for a stock look which allows for easily added tweaks. Friendly thread as well.
Ninphetamine kernel works great with both roms...
I atlculay lvoe my sumnasg glxaay s2 wtih VliaRionlm mroe tahn my xobx
I am using Lite'ning 6.1 with speedmod kernel T32 but it has not BLN so I will change kernel.
For me, the rom is perfect but anyway I have not tried more (in GT-i9000 I tried too much)
Cyanogenmod ofcourse
I dont have a rooted SGS2 but Cyanogenmod is on the vids very good and smooth.
There are a few issues but there are not major bugs.
Only A2DP dont work ... And a few another things !

So... have you found a rom/kernel/theme you plan to stick with?

What's in my sig right now is working flawlessly for me. I think I've finally found a combination that I'll be using until we get our first official taste of ICS. Been going for about a week now with this combo and it's solid, looks great, and battery life is well above what I was getting with stock.
Do you all prefer to test various roms for the sake of testing or are you trying to find that ONE permanent solution... for at least a good month or two?
Noo sadly i haven't. I like to try new things though

If I wanted one single rom/theme/kernel to always use without tinkering, I'd still be using my iphone.
Today, I'm on unnamed 1.3.1, Entropy's 12/1 DD, no installed theme. I have modified a few things on this device myself (auto-bright levels, adding AOSP VoiceDialer (to enable BT voice dialing), etc.)
Take care

how much of a difference does Entropy's 12/1 kernel make vs. the one that comes with the ROM? I don't care about BLN.
Definitely like the galnet miui (recently blocked from xda).
Themes are very customizable and has lot of styling without sacrificing the battery.
Cm7 kernel on conservative/noop at 200-1.2 works perfectly for me

I pretty much flash every ROM I can find, if I like it I keep it until anew one comes along. Right now I'm on Task's ICS'd Out ROM- and it kicks ass. not quite as good battery as unnamed, but it looks sexy and is really customizable through JKay Mods and TW 4.5...

Dang it, I was hoping it wasn't that good. I've been trying to talk myself into sticking with UnNamed/Entropy 12.1/ICScrewD/CircularBatteryMod/GlowingSBoot.
Oh, well. I hope CircularBatteryMod works on ICS'd...
I think I'm sticking with MIUI on mine. The combination of aesthetics and configurability can't be beat, IMHO. It's also very stable, and I get great battery life. I wouldn't go back to a stock based ROM, it would have to be either MIUI or CM.

Haha yeah, thats what I was using. That combo might be slightly more functional, and with ICScrewd it probably looks good too. But for me the good looks stock and extra customizability of Task's make it better for my use. Really, it is whatever works for you though, I'd try both and see which works better.

Started on Unnamed... tried miui for about a week, liked some things about it but felt too prepackaged/ifruity and went back to Unnamed - a great ROM, indeed.
Loaded Task650's ICS'd yesterday and v2 update today... been messing with it too much to compare battery life, but really impressed with ability to customize, with snappiness, and with smoothness. Wifi and cell signals seem stronger, too. Think I'm sticking with this for a while, with Unnamed as a backup plan.
I am running Criskelo rom v31 with entopys kernel.I also have a modified Galaxy Blue theme on it great battery performance and looks great.I love using JKays app. I would like to think I will stay on this for a long time but I have a flashing addiction

Like everyone, I ran with various stock-modded ROMs (Perception, Serendipity8). But I settled with Cognition777 (i9100XWKJ3 framework), themed w/ICS Domination which utilizes JKAY mods and I am running SiyahKernel v2.3. I really dig the look, feel, stability; which, is rock solid and most importantly battery life. I have really enjoyed the added options the framework allows, plus the JKAY features are a must-have. I will definitely stay with this setup for many months, until something more solid or impressive comes out.
Only issue I have discovered is the GB built-in tethering doesn't work, which is no biggie for me as I just use the google root-users wired tether app when I need tethering. Wireless tether is just too much of a drain on the battery to ever, be considered useful.
Started out with CM7... Realized google didnt save my app data and what not, so i switched to UnNamed with ICSkrewD and Entropy's DD Kernel.
I may flash Siyah's tonight to see how it does.
Right now i am looking to the best battery life and stability as i patiently wait for a ICS ROM
I flashed the Alpha 7 build for the I9100 and it booted and everything was buttery smooth but no data like stated, so i didnt keep it.

[Q] Opinion on best stable ROM?

Hi all, I have a Nexus 4 coming my way and I'm going to gift my good ole Vibrant to my sister during Thanksgiving. Can I have some opinions on which ROM I should put on it for her? I currently have Hellybean which works pretty decently, but has some minor glitches here and there. I'm not sure if I should just wipe and give her the phone with Hellybean or flash another ROM.
I would prefer a ROM that I could put on there and not be worried that I'll have to walk her through re-flashing a new ROM on the phone since she's too far away for me to help her in person.
Main things to keep in mind for your evaluations/suggestions:
Stability
Battery Life
Performance
Thank you!
Well you can't go wrong with cm10. Slim bean is very fast, stable, and has good battery life. V3.0 was just released, set it up and let her run with it.
If she is a little tech savvy, paranoid android is gangbusters, super smooth, stable and has given me the best battery life I've seen since I was running stock. The features of the ROM are not difficult to figure out, just requires a little trial and error.
Also keep in mind cm10.1(android 4.2), and all its variants should be available to the vibe soon.
If that's not the route you want to take, cm7.2 stable release is nice as well.
???
If i were you, I would go with a 2.2 room, namely bionix 1.3

I've been on Paranoid Android now for... seems like a really long time. Probably 2-3 months maybe?
Its rock solid. I was on Helly Bean before, and I liked it too. I'm the kind of person that when I find something I like, I hate to change it. On a tip from my bro Gunny, I hopped from HB to PA and haven't looked back. All the features are there, plus more. Not knocking HB at all. Its just a preference.
It would be like me telling you that you HAVE to like chocolate swirl ice cream. I like it, but I like Superman Ice Cream better. ?
He said stable for sister no time for fixing anything.....hmmm. cm10 would be best. Then when you get the chance later just go to about phone update the ROM when you get your hands on it. Easier to keep someone else updated with cyanogenmod. Or try euroskank cm10 also a good stable ROM. I like pdroid, slimbean, and etc. But for your sister hit her with simple cm10
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda app-developers app
Well, you certainly have a number of routes that you could go man...really it's somewhat dependent on how well your phone responds to certain builds. Honestly, if what you're really looking for is "Battery, Stability, and performance" I'd suggest go no higher than ICS, with Froyo being my suggestion merely on accomplishing those three points to the fullest. With that being said, if you'd like to go the JB route, then you can't go too too wrong with PA, since it's a solid rom. But again, it's really dependent to some extent on specifically what you want to accomplish. Froyo definitely meets all of those requirements in spades, as do some ICS builds (Zen, Rem come to mind)....fewer even still for JB, but I'm sure with the right build, and kernel with a little tweaking, your sister could do just fine running a jelly beaned Vibrant.
Thanks for all the replies, definitely much appreciated! I thought about going back to froyo, but it seems like my phone has handled ICS and JB pretty well considering the age of the phone. I have been on ICZen and that was pretty good so I will think about that. I'm going to try Paranoid since it would be nice to give her JB, and Hellybean has been pretty good, but I guess I need to try out Paranoid first.

360 for sure man..
360 vs. stock differences:
stock is CM10+PA options and is the base rom for 360
360 is my spin on for the rom changes include:
-latest Semaphore kernal "S"version
-patch lib files for greater ram availability
-Build.prop edits
-different system sounds
-GPS fixes and possible improvements
-Beats Audio enhancments thanks Awesome
-remove some unnecessary files
-remove stock live wallpaper
-and other such tweaks as I find them useful

Urgent Recommendation

A friend of mine recently got a Samsung Vibrant from someone in his family. The thing is still on Eclair. He wants a custom rom. Now, i know XDA's policy on "What's the best rom" kinda threads, and i would just tell him to try them all till he finds one that satisfies his needs, but he himself doesn't have a clue about the entire process, and i'm all he's got. He's also not gonna be in town for much longer, so i need to flash him a rom quickly before he leaves. The only requirements are:
1) Should be stable
2) Should have fair battery life.
3) should be atleast ICS. This part is absolutely crucial, as his college WIFI uses a proxy, and there's absolutely no way to access this on pre 4.0 devices (Well, it's also available in 3.0, but that's not applicable here).
Can someone recommend a good rom?

Don't go with a nightly rom, they sometimes are not stable. Also avoid ICS roms, they have the EUbug (renders internal sd card useless). Go with a jellybean rom (4.2), my favorite is Avatar rom, very stable and tons of themes.

As much as I love all the available custom roms out there, there is a trade off with memory consumption, gps, Bluetooth, etc. I would have to recommend using a rom made for the phone if you want something stable. I would not use ICS though. I finally made up my mind and will be using a optimized Froyo rom with no bloat, customizations, themes. Just do what a phone was suppose to do.
If wants stability & speed try trigger(froyo 2.2,all works) if wants some modern try slimbean or infamous AOKP,but have GPS issues(4.2.2) this roms works with 170-210 free ram.Vibrant t959 is a good pet for daily work! Good Luck!

Yeah guys, i need a minimum of 4.0, there's no way to get proxy working on any of the lower versions.
Also yeah, i don't think i want a nightly, since this is gonna be a one time flash, there's no way he's gonna flash later nightlies or even a later stable. I give him a rom now and that's exactly what he'll be using for the next year.
Tomorrow I'll be updating infamous aokp. Its stable fast and gives me good battery life. You can flash that!

Suggest a ROM for my dad...

My dad has GSII (I9100, the "original" S2) and it feels kinda sluggish compared to my One S C2(pretty much HTC Sensation) and it also lacks app space(I have moved all of them to SD card but still cant install new apps). Since I'm going to reinstall it I might aswell install some other ROM. It needs to be almost fully stable with all the features working and it would be nice if it had touchwiz(my dad isnt a power user and doesnt like to adopt to new things). I don't know how much faster non-touchwiz ROMs are so you can suggest some of those too. Also I don't really know yet how to install custom ROMs on GSII except for the stock one but I'm sure I'll find info on how to do that. Oh, performance and battery life should be balanced although my dad has 4 batteries
Thank you for your help!
EDIT: after some searching I have realized that 95% of roms are without touchwiz... So just suggest any ROM that is stable and smooth

Hey!
To root your phone, head here: http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/galaxys2-i9100-root-android412-jellybean-install-clockworkmod-445008
1. Neat ROM: is perhaps based on Touchwiz. Also, it has had a huge support. So, it should fit your Dad's expectations.
2. SlimSaber 4.4.4: I guess pretty much the best non-touchwiz ROM for the S2. And stable as well!
3. Go ahead and try out Lollipop ROMs as well, although they are still under work and can have some bugs: CM12.1, Resurrection Remix , BlissPOP, SlimLP and many more.
Hope this helps.

Try http://www.cyanogenmod.org/, that's how i started with custom ROM's, they have "idiot friendly" way of installing their ROM, you just install app form google store and follow setup proces, really easy. Very stable ROM also. I still use Cyanogenmod, bus some unnoficial lolipop version. I recomend it!
Slimsaber 4.4.4 by fusionjack. Would recommend it to anyone on XDA and to friends and family.
