Rom question. - HTC Rezound

Has anyone tried porting windows to the rezound?
Will anyone try porting Firefox os when it is available?

99.9999999999% of PCs have x86 based processors.
99.9999999999% of phones have ARM based processors.
Windows is written for x86.
Even if there was an ARM version, Windows would run horribly on such low specs.
Also, Windows is completely proprietary, so another problem.
If you're referring to WP7, then yes that is for ARM, but again it's proprietary so we can't do anything with it, and compatible with only a few types of ARM chips.
Just like iOS.
As long as Firefox OS runs on ARMv7 CPUs and is completely open source, it will be possible to port it.
Whether anyone will actually bother to is another question.

It should be compatible since HTC has windows phones, ff os doesn't look like a winner, but html5 programming apps sounds sweet!
Just another random idea for xda devs lol.

Even if we had it, it would be so slow running. Windows is notorious for burning unessary system resources.

I know, I despise being forced to have it installed just for gaming on my pc, just thought there may be some one interested in having it.

It will not be compatible because being ARM based is just about the only similarity between this phone and whatever HTC windows phone.
The radios are probably different.
The wifi is probably different.
The bluetooth is probably different.
Etc.
And it's completely proprietary, so we couldn't write our own hardware drivers.
As long as FF OS is completely open source, it is technically possible to port it, but it will be a lot of work.

Is there an app to empty trash from android, like what boot manager has?

I don't think android has a "Trash Can".
When I delete a large file, my disk usage adjusts accordingly.

Android?

It is possible to flash this device with android?

not yet. there is another thread pointing this out
Why would you want to use Android on this phone..WP7 is a beautiful OS. The more it sells the bigger the draw of devs.

I doubt Android would run very well on this device since it needs a nuclear power plant to be smooth and even then...
What tha? (Facepalm) My phone is an Android phone, and I still don't get it. The operating system is the best thing about this phone.

Android app dualy loaded?

Can the same android app be open in 2 instances on the phone?
Maybe making it think it's a different app?

What benefit would this have if it was even possible?

Running 2 game accounts at once to transfer stuff
If my pc was working I'd just have the phone on one and pc on another

Cheater! Omfg I'm totally reporting u to the android game police

I see where your going with this, however on a phone I doubt you could. Phones lack the resources to have two of the same thread running at the same time. I guess in theory it's possible, much like a PC, it would depend on the application and whether it allows for multiple instances of itself to be run, and on the phone, putting both applications into memory and not overwriting each other.
So to answer, I guess it's possible, lol.

Wp8 on Evo?

Windows on Evo? Just curious, I used to have Android on Windows HTC Diamond,Vogue, Touch pro, and Hd7 etc. Has anyone tried?
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
cant due to windows being closed source. If it is made it will not be posted online for other people it will be just for the developer of it
There's also licensing issues if someone somehow did manage wp8
I would love to see it done, but I doubt it'll happen. Primarily because Windows Phone is closed source and released to manufacturers only and they have strict requirements they must comply to. Same reason why you never see iPhone software running on anything except iPhones, but iPhones have had (previously) the ability the boot Android, an open source operating system.
The XDA was cracked. Only tenacity required.

Rooting with windows 8 comp=catastrophic

Uhm....
This has to be the most agrivating phone to root in my years of rooting..
Windows 8 will not reconize htc drivers! Unsupported on this operating system it says..
Grrrrrrr i hate windows 8 and how incompatible it is with everything..
Cant root... Hmmmm... Giving this phone up for the iphone 5, im done!
Not only that the process this takes to root is very complex! Grrrrrrr....

I had no problems rooting with win 8. Good luck with the crapple 5

Rooted in 15 minutes on my windows 8. I installed HTC sync, uninstalled HTC sync, fired up adb, saw the device right away. (After enabling debug mode on my phone).

adb says it's out of date and "killing...". But still proceeds forward. Is that normal for Windows 8. I downloaded all the necessary files and they're all up to date, as far as I know.
So instal htc sync? Why isnt that in the instructions for rooting? Im trying to root it still... Fail...
Already have it installed and its not finding the dna..
Ugh.. Is there a dumbed down version of this rooting method?
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
I rooted on windows 8 with minimal trouble, on an Archos 9 with I think a single core 1ghz cpu, and 1 gig of DDR ram. I also rooted my transformer prime using the same tablet. Albeit using the paid pro version, I would not try it on the free previews.
Good luck with the iPhone 5 if you choose to walk away from the fastest phone since sliced bread. $h!+ is junk! Lol its exactly the same as iPhone4s without the cool new shape only slightly bigger and a tad faster. But same restricted, lame a$$, never changing, way too out of date to be relivant IOS.

If you read .... This is what you need to do install HTC sync only for the drivers .. before you try anything with your DNA delete HTC sync , but font touch the drivers ... This phone isn't that hard if people would learn to read the entire directions before starting .... :banghead: Maybe you needing a dumbed down method is telling you something huh ... Not to be rude but these REAL phones are maybe too complicated . Please don't root your phone, because all your going to do is screw it up and take it back on someone else's dime . Get your ibore 5 ... And hey bud , are you rooting or unlocking the bootloader? Because one has to be done before the other ...

Unlocking the bootloaders you stuck up xda tards.. And i was reading, so don't judge. Just ran into the driver issue it states "when you connect your phone into your computer and you have usb debugging on, the drivers should automatically instal"
Well they didnt, so im having issues with adb recognizing the dna.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
the process on a win8 machine can be taxing, if you let it.
downloading adb setup didn't work for me either.
if you plug your phone in to pc, it will install drivers and sync. (you might need to change usb port if not cooperating)
I also had the adb out of date and killing issue, it didn't prevent me from unlocking bootloader but, it did cause a problem during root process. specifically when trying to load SU. because adb kept killing itself, SU wouldn't get installed.
I solved that issue by removing htc sync, and leaving the drivers installed.
restart adb, use task manager and end adb.exe process. if it continues, look in task manager again for anything like android tools, droid explorer etc;
gl
This phone has its flaws too... Its choppy, some major apps not yet supported, force closing on Facebook, Wish android would get its stuff together too! Tons of addware all over there apps, and 30% or more of the android marketplace is filled with fake or virus apps

In what way is this even remotely helpful?
There are a lot of people that didn't find it a simple process. There was trial and error and learning involved.
Not everyone came out of the womb with the superior knowledge you clearly possess.

Go and get yourself a Nexus 7, it's one of Canonical's targeted development devices.
I use my phone for making calls and other mundane but critical daily functions, so I am leery about experimenting with my phone; however, it's a different story with my n7 tablet. I can flash any available ROM and do unspeakable things to it and I am able to maintain my level of service for daily living.

There are two separate products.
http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...buntu-for-phones-coming-soon-to-galaxy-nexus/
Ubuntu for Android which was announced about a year ago or so.
Ubuntu for Smartphones was announced yesterday and is a different product.
U4A = a dual boot type environment. when you are walking around it's an Android phone...when docked it's a full fledged Linux OS.
U4S = a full fledged Linux OS...no android at all.
i would love to see this in action. i expect the Carriers to be a big hurdle. AT&T and Verizon will not want to give up control over the handhelds on their network. but just like the ISP has no control over your device's in your home, i hope the consumers can eventually push hard enough that the Carriers go the same route. but to date AT&T still makes the manufacturers lock down their devices and if they could they would revert back to the days when rooting your phone was illegal.
