Space!!! Suffocating for space!! - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well I have a Galaxy S3 with 16 GB of internal memory. I recently got addicted to ashphalts(both 6 and 7), Batman: The Dark Knight, The Amazing Spiderman, Gangster Rio, ShadowGun and many more HD games. As stated, all of them consume huge amount of space and to make the matter worse you are not allowed to see the files that are being downloaded over wifi, so no way to move them manually. I got apps to sd installed which is pointless in Galaxy S3 as it has no option for apps to move to sd card.
Now is there any way I can get rid of this problem? Any way that I can move some of the apps on my 32 GB sd card? I dont want to root or do something like that. I rooted my galaxy s2 and enjoyed installing hundreds of ROMs but for S3 I prefer not to. The sock version is just too good. But is there any way to solve the space issue?

yeah, it sucks because 16gb only has less than 12gb of usable space
it is pretty lame how google removed support for installing to SD card.. i think they're doing this now to get people to buy android phone with more internal memory (32gb, 64gb,etc)..
unfortunately no solution unless you root and hack your phone to death.. might want to take a look at this.

Root is the easiest way to solve most issues including yours.
Other solutions:
1) Finish the game and uninstall it immediately.
2) Trade your phone for 64gb version.

Thanks
Thanks mate. I did take a look at that forum earlier but thought that seemed pretty complex to me.
WEll perhaps you are right, google wants us to buy phones with high internal memory and surely we would! ****! Cut down the price then

if rooted u can use titanium backup and move to sd

@Ev0d3vil: I installed a sd card in one of my SGS3 and then downloaded GTA3 outside the play store. Then you get all the data in a zip, that can be used from sd card. I just installed GTA3 and it works fine from my SD card. Atleast I think. Anyways there is no way to move apps to sd in SGS3 unless rooted. Droidsail super app2sd is a great app that I had used for moving apps to SD in my previous android.

Yep. Good options. Personally I use gl to sd from play store. It moves game data to the external sd. You open the app and it shows you which games etc you can run / move data for. In options you can also add the data folder as well as select folders manually.

Will we get App2SD support on JB?

Hello!
Do you think LG/Google will learn from their misstakes and enable Apps being Transferrable to the SD card? I Hope They do.

mistake? no friend, that was no mistake they planned that. ics was a major change in android and the apps to sd card thing is history now (at least in stock roms)
and the reason is that external memory can never be as fast as internal memory in running and executing apps. imo

internal memory is fast i agree, but it is still not faster than class 10 memory cards.
when i transfer data to internal memory it never went above 8 mbps....but with my class 10 memory card i can transfer with 16 mbps speed....so flash memory isnt always the fastest one

It is not history it's optional. It's a feature still embedded in ICS and Jelly Bean but it just needs to be turned on. They made it optional due to the devices like the Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 4 which had no external memory. So having the feature would be pointless. It can be turned on though. I have a couple devices that has it work through your normal system settings.

The main issue with that is majority of consumers that are using these devices have no clue what a class is in relation to SD cards. Hell half of them think SD cards are SIM cards and vice versa and their pictures are on the SIM xD

I know the modern consumer is anything but "brilliant", but pictures on a SIM card? Lol. That may be a touch harsh, though it did get me to laugh.
On a side note, my current devices happen to be the exact same as yours. Fancy that.
Just rooted p769, installed app2sd and want to move apps. When run app2sd get this message:
"the device does not have a real primary external storage, or the primary external storage is emulated. Moving app to SD function may not be supported by this device."
any alternatives or any way to remap without app2sd or link2sd? I have not tried link2sd yet but it'll probably be similar. Would like to remap or move apps until JB/CM is available which will likely have it integrated.

Now i have a total of 180 apps, most of them are system, pre-installed, removed most bloatware. Don't want to waste internal storage memory completely, would like to keep some apps in phone and have a few hundred megs free internal, the rest moved to externa sd. Hope it's possible.
On the JB there are app2sd but all data of applications is still saving in phone memory.

Are you saying they initially install on the phone but have the option to move to sd after they are installed or that the option is available but doesn't work to move apps to your sd card.

He's saying that the larger apps such as for example real racing still save the data files to the sdcard. Now the difference is that you can move the actual app to the sdcard.

Move apps to SD card?

Is there anyway to move apps from internal memory to SD card? Games like NFS take up a huge amount of storage and I'm running out of space. :silly:

I used to use DirectoryBind on my Xperia ZL while it was on 4.1.2. It needs root and works perfectly. I'm sure it will work on your tablet as well but if you have upgraded to 4.2.2 then you will need another solution.
I just bought my Xperia Tablet Z and went with the 32GB model for exactly this reason. People recommended the 16GB version because you can add an SdCard anyway to compensate but they don't seem aware that games that have a big game data such as NFS, Spiderman, Batman + many others will suck that 16GB dry and cannot be moved easily to the SdCard even though many apps on the Play Store claim they can. Every app I tried was a fail except for DirectoryBind which can be found on XDA by searching a bit.
Good Luck!!
Thanks a lot!!! I used Directory Bind with my S2 - never thought it can be used with Tablet Z!!!

[Q] How do I enable App2SD function?

Is this possible? I have a 16GB SD Card and can't do anything with it.
I have exactly the same problem, I bought this phone because of it's adreno 320 GPU. So I would be able to play a lot of games, but pretty soon after buying the phone I discovered that 16 GB of storage wasn't enough. So I bought a 64 GB card. Sadly I haven't been able to move my games to my SD card so I just got kind of stuck. Any info will be greatly appreciated
If you are rooted, you can install https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.buak.Link2SD. It requires you to partition your SD card. I used to use it on my Samsung blaze and it worked quite well.

Yep, using it on my HTC Aria. Pretty much a necessity on that device now, with how big all the apps are these days. I think it has like 110MB of available app storage onboard...

Well it depends on the game, but I use FolderMount to make the game data that's normally stored on the internal SD get stored on the external SD.
This only moves the extra game data that normally gets downloaded for games like asphalt.

Thanks for the reply, can you be a little more specific? As far as I know this phone got an emulated SD card or something like that, that's why apps like link 2 SD doesn't work on the phone, so maybe your method works, but I don't understand how to use it

Link2SD doesn't work? It sees my internal SD, extSD, and, though I'm not using one, a spot for 2nd partition. You sure it doesn't work?
As for FolderMount: it scans the apps on the internal memory and allows you to move the data to the SD while creating a link so the app thinks nothing has moved.
For me it found and allowed me to move the 1GB of asphalt 8 data to the SD.

Thanks a lot, right now I'm using folder mount, and it moved 12gb of games files into my SD, that really worked out pretty well, thanks again for giving the folder mount advice. And yes, apps2SD doesn't works properly, at least not in my phone

Ext Sd moving apps Fall short, need advice.

Hello, I have a rooted gs4 64 gb sd card, foldermount, apps2sd, and esfile explorer. I have recently ran almost entirely out of space on internal storage. I have 300 mbs remaining hence my purchasing the 64 gb sd card. I used foldermount to try to move the app and data of The Walking Dead by Telltale games for example. This app is over 2 gbs but when I use foldermount it only moves 1 gb and my phone only moves the size of the app only which is around 20 mbs. I have multiple games with the same situation and can't even move that much of the app space. Having anotther 1.4 gig stuck in my phone I can't find or move is really limiting my phone and I can't do much with it. I finally found the 8 gb of game data and other game files using es file explorer and searching my root files. The 8 gbs are the three games telltale has out right now on android. The games are phenomenal and I dont want to give them up. So what im asking is can anyone tell me how I can move all of a games data, downloaded content, etc from internal phone storage to external micro sd. I didn't try moving with es file explorer because I couldn't find info on if it was safe. Everytime I search how to move all of a games data to external Sd I just find foldermount and other apps similar. Not sure if it just hasn't been asked or realized yet or what's going on but half of the space a game takes up on my phone, in my mind, is not all of the games data. Which has been advertised by the many, many apps Ive tried. Foldermount is a great app and I've purchased it to support the developer I just want more ability to move if possible. Thanks a ton for everyones time and effort, Xda is the best and I've recommended it to all of my friends.

Unable to move apps to SD card when plenty of space

Hi I have a 16gb SD card in my Sony tablet that in the past I have moved a few apps over to, i have nearly filled up the tablets internal memory so decided to move a few more over after only moving one app I tried another which is 600mb but after a while I get a error saying their is not enough space left on the SD card when their is 10gb left anyone have any ideas why it would do this
Thanks in advance
I believe due to lollipop you're not able to move the whole app to the sd card. This ought to be changed in the marshmallows update. Unfortunately, without root, there is nothing you can do about it. Please correct me if I am wrong on this

That might be the case as the first app I tried was the Sonic CD game at 600mb but just tried my ebay app at 685mb and that moved straight over, only other difference between these apps is ebay is from the Google Play Store while Sonic was from the Amazon underground apps app do you know if you can't move the amazon underground apps ?
there are 2 programms which assist moving apps to sd. Link2SD is very good - you re-partition your sd card (e.g. if you have 64, you split it into 48gb fat and +16gb ext4 partition) and then you have extra 16gb for apps. It also can move obb files to sdcard, but wants you to upgrade to PRO version for this. Here, FolderMount app comes handy. It is made just to move obb files (this is what you usually get with big games). So, both apps, when used in parallel, allow you to move pretty much everything to sdcard. Both need root. That's what I use on other devices, and will try to replicate same setup on XZ3CT later today. But if it all sounds too complicated, maybe you need to wait for Android marshmallow couple of weeks, and it will allow you to fully use sdcard for apps.
