I need some urgent help from someone out there as my brand new TF300 seems to be partially bricked.
I followed this guide to the book but when I rebooted it just stuck at the boot logo.

I have managed to install ClockworkMod Recovery so I have recovery but when I try and send a stock rom via fastboot I receive an error failed remote insufficient memory.
Can anyone help me. I have a £400 brick on my hands as it has been unlocked!
Have you tried wiping the data/cache and installing from a zip file?
I'm assuming you have the TF300T, so you should be able to download the zip from http://www.asus.com/Tablet/Transformer_Pad/ASUS_Transformer_Pad_TF300T/#download
If you already have the zip, just boot into CWM and delete/wipe data and cache and then install from zip.
EDIT: I just realized that you are using pounds, so I'm assuming that you are in the UK. You may want to check the model number, as 4.1 was only intended to be released in the US from what I can tell. You may be able to install it on yours, but I don't know for sure.
You may also be able to download a custom ROM for it. I have the TF201, so I don't know much about what's out there for the tf300, but you could always check via google.

I have downloaded this firmware. ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T Firmware: V9.4.3.29 Only for WW SKU (Android 4.0.3)
I was on 9.4.3.26 and chose to downgrade for root to 9.4.3.17. The downgrade soft bricked my tablet.
I have tried to send the file via adb/fastboot to my tablet but all I keep getting is insufficient memory and then it conks out. It's actually got worse as I have been messing about with it. Before it wasn't giving me the insufficient memory message but some error code.
Yes I have also tried wiping data/cache.
I have no zip on the internal storage which is my problem.
I need to get some kind of rom either stock or custom on the internal storage to flash but everytime I try and send the stock rom via fastboot it keeps saying insufficient memory. The same issue presumably would apply with a custom rom . How do I manage to get a custom rom onto the internal SD via adb/fastboot?
I am in big **** if this is bricked. It's unlocked so I wouldn't have a leg to stand on with ASUS and have a very expensive paperweight.
Surely being able to get into recovery is at least a positive, but how do I flash a new rom with that error message?
Please can anyone help?
Rather than trying to move it to the internal SD, just put the zip on a micro SD. You shouldn't have any problems with that. CWM can do everything else without you having to use ADB.

Thanks. Managed to get into recovery and then flash stock rom. Not sure if to risk any further rom flashing as this process has made my hair turn grey and worry the wife to death but I still need root.
If this rom flashing was fail safe then I wouldn't care but it's a bit hit and miss. I can't believe I came back from the brink. My system was seriously recked!
I would love a soft mod such as one click root. Does anyone know if this might be possible in the future or are we stuck with flashing roms everytime. ASUS let you unlook the device why not root it anyway as your warranty is worthless after unlocking anyway. That's what I miss about Chinese tablets, always rooted but there again most of them are a crock of ****e!
Happy you were able to get the stock ROM flashed.
Lesson I've learned is to stick with a ROM that you're happy with. It's nice to tryout new roms, but really, I found that when testing 5 new roms, I almost always stick with the rom I preferred before I started flashing. It's really just not worth it.

So I'm now updated to 9.4.2.21 and used Asus's Bootloader Unlocking tool to unlock my boot loader and I managed to install CWM. I made a backup of my current stock OS, and I currently am downloading Virtuous Prime - based on the WW 9.4.2.21 build - would I be able to install that? I don't need to be rooted in the current OS to install this ROM correct? I just wanted to make sure before I brick my new tablet for doing something stupid... Please let me know!

Why don't you guys boot into cwm make a nandroid back up and then attempt installing it? But most likely it won't work...
Well my download has 15 minutes left and from reading the instructions on the ROM itself, it seems that the only thing it needs is CWM so I'm going to try it out... I just hope I don't get bricked xD. Now would be the time to tell me not to do it if someone knows! Thanks!
If bootloader unlocked & CWM installed then Yes you are good to go, no need to be rooted to install custom rom
Well so far its good to go, I got it installed and its booting for the first time without a hitch. Got my stuff restored from my Google account and I'm rooted So glad that worked.
Heres what I did if someone wants to do the same:
1. Unlock the bootloader using the Asus Unlock tool.
2. Flash CWM using this guide
transformerprimeroot.com/transformer-prime-recovery/how-to-install-clockworkmod-recovery-5-8-2-0-on-transformer-prime/
3. Create a Nandroid backup.
4. Install the ROM through CWM.
5. Reboot like normal.
6. Enjoy being rooted !
Maybe I'm being dumb here, but I don't think this gives you root access.... You are unlocked with a custom ROM, but I don't think there is a way to root on .21 yet. Am I incorrect? Still new to the prime here, so maybe I'm missing something. Thanks for the update though!

Well if your running Virtuous Prime it comes pre-rooted on 9.4.2.21 and I've already created backups using Titanium Backup Pro no problems at all. In fact its really stable, been listening to music for a while with no problems. Yesterday I watched Transformers 3 - ironic I know xD - and had no problems at all and I ended up getting about 12 hours of battery life with the screen and WiFi going all day .
i'm in the same situation. one thing i was wondering about. is the process of flashing roms in CWM different ? i thought i had read that you have to do it a bit differently than most phones

From my experience on Android devices (Droid X, Droid X2, Galaxy Nexus, and now Transformer Prime) CWM has been a bit different for each, but for the most part once you get CWM in, its just a matter of following the instructions of the ROM maker.
Virtuous Prime is different when flashing because it has a GUI when installing - something I've never seen before - which works quite well, its a nice touch.

Well if you go to TransformerPrimeRoot.com and follow the instructions there for flashing CWM, (of course make sure that you still boot normal after doing it) make a nandroid backup, then just flash like normal. When you get your ROM on make sure that you download RomManager from the market so you can get the latest CWM flashed as the version from that website is an older one, but it seems to work fine.
Keep in mind if you don't see the USB icon when in that icon list, it will show up when you unlock your boot loader.

Sorry to ask the same question twice, but do I need to save the ROM zip file anywhere specifically, or can I simply download the file directly onto my prime and then flash from my download folder???? I feel so dumb about this one

As long as you have CWM installed you can put the .zip ROM anywhere. Most of the time I keep em in the root of the device (its just easier to find). Then just use Choose install from .ZIP or whatever the button is, and navigate like normal to install it. Make sure you make a backup!
Im up and running now. Thanks for the help! So should this root access stick now even if i wanted to flash aokp? Or if i wipe data do I lose root?

No you have root. I just did it yesterday. Unlock. Install cwm. Backup. Flash custom rom. You'll be rooted.

If you have CWM installed you do not need to root. just flash the rom. (IK people already said this but i just wanted to make a quick clear post)

Have Prime with .21 Firmware
Did/do NOT want unlocked bootloader, but I want the root.
Downgraded the Prime to the .15
Rooted it using the ViperMod
-Now this next part if it doesn't make sense I blame it on me being sick, and it being late here.-
So, it wasn't offering the OTA .21 update to me after this.
I read that wiping the cache was a step that I may have missed.
From my experience with tinkering with the old Galaxy S and rooting/throwing on custom roms I remembered that CWM is the way to go for this!
Puts on Rom Manager
Flashes CWM and then the new CWM Touch after that.
Tries to reboot into recovery mode so that I can do the wipe.
Doesn't work from manual hard reset, adb commands, or from the Rom Manager UI.
Now I just want to get rid of CWM and go back with stock recovery, and then just push the .21 blob on there instead.
Please tell me I didn't somehow unlock my bootloader... >_< I thought I would have had to agree to something to do that.
If I didn't, how do I pull the CWM off, but keep the root and the bootloader UNLOCKED.

You cant install cwm unless you unlocked your bootloader... So im not sure how you flashed it with rom manager. Are you sure you didnt select the option to unlock and install cwm in viperMOD?
Positive that I didn't. Mainly because it mentioned the unlock tool in the same line as CWM.
Everything that I did after following Wolf's directions was through Rom Manager (aka the CWM install and ROM backup).

I don't think that I was "thinking" properly >_<. But I will make sure and keep that in mind.
That's what I've read too. What's strange is that, unless some program did it without telling me that it did it, I avoided anything that looked like it said "unlock".

Alright, after a little more reading, investigating on the prime, and putting a little more thought into it I think I've come to believe that (even though OM Manager thinks it is) CWM isn't actually installed on the Prime. I'm thinking that when ROM Manager supposedly flashed it, it only installed a random file or two that it could. the ONLY CWM folders I could find in ANY directory on my prime was in the sdcard folder and the clockworkmod folder.
I just deleted that, restarted, and it isn't broken... yet.
Is it possible to remove jellybean from tf201 and reinstall ics. I want to unlock and root my device and after days and days of reading cannot find a way to root my device or to reinstall ica
You don't need to go to ICS. I unlocked and rooted and installed the latest Energy Rom using Urkel's fresh root on JB.
However, got to warn you that one of my 2 Primes got bricked just by installing a recovery...

The short answer to this question is no. You may not return to ICS. You can unlock and gain root. If your prime is already on jellybean via Asus update do not attempt to install cwm or twrp for ICS or you will permanently brick like garret

Guess I didnt say this plainly enough, if your prime is running ASUS official jellybean version 4.1.1 you will permanently brick (turn it into a $500 paperweight) if you install cwm. To go further there is absolutely no benefit from install cwm on the tf201 ever.

You misunderstood what I said. I didn't install anything for ICS. And only One of my Two Primes got bricked. And it booted just fine 2-3 times, the TWRP on this specific Prime wouldn't run for some reason when I went to the Recovery menu. So then I pressed "wipe data" , nothing happened, I rebooted and it bricked.
From what I've seen, it just happens sometimes. I've never seen such weird devices.

I didnt misunderstand you, I read your post yesterday. I was just using your brick as an example of what can happen with a bad recovery. From what I have read the reason your prime is bricked is that your recovery is attempting to boot but cant. In most cases its because the recovery needs the correct bootloader version. When you put the wrong recovery for your bootloader you get a permanent wait. It would be nice if there was a timeout for this that caused it to just boot to the os but there is not. Smarter people than me feel free to set me straight if this is not the case.
Couldn't you just flash an ICS ROM using TWRP?
Also, go for Urkel's fresh start. There's no need to go back to ICS, just to get root.

It was the correct bootloader version. For some reason sometimes even though Urkel's fresh root tells you the recovery got installed successfully, it actually does NOT. My Prime still booted fine though until I pressed "Wipe data"...grrr
I searched a lot around the net and many people had the same problem as me. The only answer I found was RMA.

well as I said "in most cases". you found another way to bork yours. Guess I wont be using Urkel to do anything to my prime.
I doubt it was Urkel's fresh root that caused the problem. That specific Prime just didn't want to accept the damn TWRP. I have no idea why.
From what I've read, the damn Primes and Asus are to blame. Tons of bricks. If only they gave us the tools we to un-brick them...we could flash from APX mode and the damn things would be unbrickable.
i recently bought a asus tf201 on ebay and the android version on it is 4.0.3. As i found out later, it's also been unlocked. i have twrp v.2.2.1 installed and i want to install the latest version of android. i tried downloading the latest version of android from the asus website to my sd card and followed the instruction. but when i get to the twrp interface, i don't know how to get the update installed. it seems like it does not detect any data on my sd card. any help would be greatly appreciated. Bear in mind that i'm an absolute noob and i don't even know what "unlocking" a tablet means.

Post 2 is important. You will permanently brick your device.
Also, read up on the tf201 here. Since you at ICS still, you can make nvflash backups. This is an intense process, though. Read read read before you move ahead! Nvflash backups will for all intents and purposes will make your tab brickproof.

I have read this myself a few times and it really isn't true, well at least not for me.
I have flashed stock blobs from Asus in a zip file thru twrp many times and I have never bricked once.
I even flashed the TF300 stock rom on here when I was creating hairybean 2.x and even that did nothing bad and have since flashed the TF700 blobs.
These have all been flashed thru TWRP tho.

Unlocking the allows a custom recovery (such as TWRP) to be installed instead of the default one. What that allows you to do is use it to manually install custom updates or even custom entire roms in over the stock one. Did you copy the zip to the SD card using your computer before putting it back into the prime. Also check to make sure the SD card is mounted which should have happened automatically but may not have. If not you should be able to mount it and then see the file to install.
I'm trying to flash the most current/last official ROM from the ASUS website. I'm using TWRP. I currently have a custom Android 7.1 ROM installed.
I wiped the table with TWRP and am trying to install the ASUS ROM. It looks like it's working and then I get a red error message that says something about failing with ERROR: 7.
Any suggestions?

This is the precisely the issue I'm having now. It appears the official ASUS ROM fails to install on a modified (or rooted?) tablet.
What I've been experimenting with instead is the information in this thread.
It looks promising, but I'm having a bit of trouble finding some of the files it mentions as the post is rather old, and some of the things it references don't appear to be hosted.
Give it a try, and see if you get further than I did (and let me know if you do get it work, how you did it!).

which files are no longer available ? for me the asus official stock roms are still working and the adb installer (the latest version) as well. tested just now.
