advice from audiophiles for a stereo bluetooth headset - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

well the title says it all.
after the tragic drowning of my beloved mh-100 :crying: .
i was looking into
getting a new one and man is it so confusing
*my criteria :fingers-crossed: :
-1st and foremost SOUND QUALITY (correct reproduction of highs and lows)
-2nd battery life
-3rd decent signals
I've got a budget of around 100$
*some of the headsets i was looking into: backbeat 903+,mw-600,s9-HD,HBS700
hope somebody helps, would be very thankful

If you're an audiophile I'd recommend avoiding bluetooth. I've been through 4 Bluetooth adaptors, the latest of which is a sony mw-600. I use shure headphones, and have a decent music system, and through both the sound is noticeably lower quality, almost like the bitrate has been lowered. Makes the music sound smudged. makes me sad,I like wireless.

I bought a mw 600 because reviews said it was good sound quality, well, belive me, its not, sounds like music has been recorded at 64k sometimes, waste of money, anything approaching loud and it distorts, and as for the design of the volume slider, must rank among worst ideas ever. Swapped with my mate for a 5 year old Nokia headset, sound quality much richer, fuller bass and doesn't distort even at max volume, compares well even against my gf's beats in ear wired headphones and they sound amazing. Use Power Amp!

I'm always using my old Nokia BH 505 + PowerAmp.
Battery life is decent, and the sonic experience is so amazing
Swyped from my Galaxy SII

Thank you all for helping me out
The problem is that I realize that wired headphones will always continue to have better sound quality but the wireless headphones are much more ergonomic that said and after feeling the difference of sound quality I decided to buy the best wired headphones that a hundred bucks could buy so if its not much to ask I would appreciate any opinions and accept them with an open mind and hope that this topic would be a future reference to new comers in a very heated subject that a lot of people

like many posted above. wireless headphones just dont cut it with wired headphones, and if ya really do love your music, use an ipod for your music playback. I find most phones DSP just arent all that good. but a really good earphone would atleast make it sound abit better. I myself uses the Sennheiser IE8 earphones. might cost an arm and a leg. but is one of the best earphones currently.
however to answer your question with earphones for $100, to be honest. most sub $100 earphones arent all that different than a good name branded (Sennheiser/Sony/skullcandy/kicker/etc) $30 earphones. you just paying extra for fancy packaging and brand name title. once again, be it a pair of earphones/headphones or even speakers for your home stereo or car. those sound producing devices is one thing I dump the most money on. because at the end of the day they are the only thing you will ear the most difference. a $1000 speakers system on a $20 cd player will always sound better than a $1000 cd player with $50 speakers system.
That said, if you can dig deep into your pocket, try the iBeats in ear headphones or Klipsch S4.

Thanks for the quick reply
First I must clarify one important thing , I really believe in specialization(i.e using a high quality pamp to listen to music) but carrying two devices in my pocket is just a deal breaker
Two questions if that's not too much to ask
will the s4 have a big gain over 30$ monitors (which is the best)?
If I one day consider buying a budget pamp which one will provide the best music experience ( other than the ipods -i HATE apple)?
And once again thanks for the reply

FIRST: pre-amp arent really use on personally earphones/heaphones. It is mostly used on home hi fi big headphones. (you know those giant ear cup ones)
SECOND: yes and no. all pre-amp will do is make it kinda louder lol. when buying earphones/headphones look at the Impedance on them. most have pretty high ohm and that means more power is needed to produce a meaner punch sound. reason I went with the Sennheiser IE8 earphones is because it has a very low impedance: 16 Ohm to be exact. for more details google impedance and ohm on speakers/headphones/earphones. will give you greater details.

Premium Headphones

What are some of the best premium headphones for the s2? I'm looking to spend between $100 - $200. I actually don't care if they are headphones or earbuds just as long as they fit in my pocket.

$150

I am a headphone junky... (I couldn't possibly name all the ones I've ever had haha) but all I can say is beats are overpriced for what they are. If you want a truly good pair of headphones, get the ultrasone hfi 580's. The sound is absolutely amazing!! Has a lot of bass but is is very tight, and not muddy (like the beats are). Also there is no lack in the highs and midrange. Of all the headphones I have used, there is nothing that comes close in my opinion. They are about $140 so they also fall in your range.
I just got the Klipsch S4 Reference and they look and sound amazing!

150...FOR EAR BUDS??
I can't see that ever being worth it. I got some sennheiser cx200s (I think) recently on sale for 15 and they're awesome.
Klipsch, Sennheiser, Shure - all well respected high-end brands
Skullcandy is well below the price range you state but they offer good "bang for your buck", especially if you buy a set of Comply foam eartips for their earbuds.
Bose and Beats are massively overpriced crap.
Q&A or Accessories... Q&A or Accessories... where oh where do I throw this thread?
Moved to Accessories.
I am using Ultimate Ears 600 with my SGS 2, got for $78 from Amazon during Christmas sale. You can find it around $80 on amazon from time to time; however, you will probably want to buy 600vi, it has mic and controls and as much as I know everything but volume control works there. These are armature headphones and renewed superfi 5, so if you listen bass and not music, I would not recommend though. Klipsch S4 are also good from what I heard, but according to this and this theme, UI has better build quality quality, but S4i sounds better.... but I cannot personally comment how they differ. One thing, I am happy with UI 600.
Also just noticed that superfi 10 on sale again. This are one of the best IEM on the market. There is also vi version, with mic and so on, but I never saw it to go on sale, and you can buy replacement cable with mic for superfi 10 from logitech website anyway.
And yes, should agree about beats, as overpriced crap made and sold my same company who sells overpriced cables.
Don't get Beats.. They're overpriced useless things. Quality of sound and build is nothing compared to better companies such as Bose and Sennheiser. I'd suggest getting a pair of those. I have CX 400's and they're very good. Of course you can get higher-priced pairs. They really do make a difference in sound. For people who say otherwise, try a pair of 200 dollar headphones/earbuds and then try a pair of 10 dollar JVCs... It's night and day.

150 is nothing lol my throw around everyday ear buds are shure scl4's which were like $399 when I got them and my other pair is a pair of shure se 535's which are like $499 (I only use them on stage as in ear monitors and when I cant find my other ear buds and I'm in a rush) lately for my phone I've been using the Monster mobile jamz because it has the control talk mic and the sound quality is decent.
I would also like to add that it should have a mic as well.

To each his own i guess.. The earbuds sound awesome.. Deep bass and very very clear. For everyone that says they don't- well that's just stupid. They could be a little over priced but the sound quality is the best I've heard coming out of ANY earbuds. Even uses Monster cable.. (high-end stereo/speaker wire).. Depends who you are.. Someone like me is't gonna spend any less than $100 bucks anyway, regardless of what kind of headphones i get and when you get up in that price range (unless your spending $3/$400), your selection greatly gets narrowed down.. I landed on beats and they sound fweekin great..

Then you may not have heard Klipsch Image S4's. For $70-$80 they're pretty hard to beat in terms of earbuds. Tight bass, clear highs and mids, you'll be hearing sounds in your music you never
even knew was there
Regarding Monster cable use in Beats.......could be the reason why they are overpriced Monster cable being overpriced is another topic all together...lol
I have had a pair of Bose in ear headphones for a while and I love them. about 89$ so not to expensive. They don't have a mic but just for something that is nice in quality and isn't going to break the bank. Bose

Agreed 100 fold. Beats are for people who don't know anything about balanced sound and just want muddy thumping. They don't even have as much of a kick as they should for what they're going after.
I personally have Phonak Audeo PFEs. I bought them for use with an mp3 player and not a phone so I'm not sure how they'd work out there. I am one who with always tune my equalizer to get the sound I want, and the PFEs are great in that regard. They have a very balanced sound which lets me EQ to my hearts content without getting any sort of distortion. The low end is a bit lacking compared to other headphones I've had (like Hippo VBs and CX300s) but they have better mid and high range to compensate.

Beats Audio

Is there any way to get beats audio to work on our phones.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
No, next time search
Sent from my SGH-I777 using XDA App
No, and there's no point to beatsoff audio. It's nothing but marketing hype with no real actual technical benefits. It's nothing but a stupid equalizer preset.
I now regard Beats as being even worse than Monster in terms of overhyping ripoff artists. Even Bose at least has SOME technical merit even though nearly all of their products are significantly overhyped and overpriced.
LOL this question always getting asked. I still love how just cause they got a artist to say that the headphones were good they are regarded for good sounding headphones. Beats headphones are poor quality overpriced headphones.
- From an owner of real headphones.
Lol.. they are def overpriced but do they sound like crap- no. Not at all. I haven't had a TON of headphones before but I've use Bose and skull candy and many cheap headphones, the Beats sound better than all of them. Of coarse that's my personal opinion.. but I consider myself someone that is a bit picky.. but non the less they sound good regardless of the what else is out there or the over marked price tag. And I thought monster cable was a quality stereo cable.. not cheap crap?!
Before everyone starts hating on my post I'm just making a point that the headphones are decent and they DO sound good- despite what all the haters say. After all, haters gonna hate that's the point
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
That's because those aren't good headphones (Bose...). Get a $40 pair of Sennheisers, problem solved.
Beats is just oversaturated bass. Headphones selling for $300 when it should be at most half of that.
Same as Monster. It's a marketing ploy.
Yup... Senns, Shures - go with a proper regarded brand, you'll get FAR more for your money.
Beats may sound better than the cheaper Skullcandies - but NOT enough to justify the delta in price.
My personal opinions:
Budget with good "bang for your buck" - Skullcandy Titans (or others with 11mm drivers) combined with Comply foam eartips
Beyond that, I'd say: Sennheiser, Shure, or for those with money to blow, Etymotics. Audio-Technica has a few decent items, I've been tempted by their active noise cancelling circumaurals for a while. Their microphones are the best budget ones I've used. (They're probably not the best out there - but the best in the sub-$100 camcorder stereo mic range until you go into standalone units like the Zoom H1/H2/H4n)
However, under no circumstances are Beats worth the exorbitant price.
Totally agree with that. They are way over priced.. but they do sound better than some other ear buds I've bought and paid $40/$50 for..
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
Senns seem the best for me but pricewise since I lose headphones ask the time skull candy are rather good for their price.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using XDA App
Well, Bose is overpriced, but in terms of noise-cancellation, or at least as far as I've researched, they are on the most effective out there so they can price however they want. But yeah, Sennheiser and ATH dominates in terms of overall audio quality, build, comfort, etc. I guess excessive flight travellers might go with the Bose while others go with Sennheiser/ATH, and as for the Beats, you got to agree, some of them look really nice, so that can go to the richish flashy people, not necessarily looking to wear the ones with the best audio quality, but good nonetheless.

I might be getting the htc one x, and if I do, I will try to find some way to turn it off. all I need are lossless audio files and my sennheiser ie8. dr dre can't improve that.
I use the skullcandy skull crushers and they have mini subs in them lol. I wouldn't wanna spend 300 bucks for worse bass.
I dont know what you guys are talking about....Beats audio headphones are great (way over priced) but great, i've produced music for over 6 years now so i can speak from experience.....as far as for the phone i wouldn't know, i'm sure it doesn't do **** to make the phone sound any better.

The point is that they are overpriced and there are options which are FAR cheaper and match or exceed them in performance, such as units from Sennheiser or Shure.

Very true....
Brother had 2 different pairs, the solo and solo hd. Both sounded decent, but for what they cost they should sound a lot better than "decent". They mostly increased the low end of the spectrum muddling out any treble.
My skullcandy skullcrushers are pretty nice...
Every single pair of beats headphones I've ever seen on display have been broken. They feel like they're made of terrible plastic, and they don't sound nearly as good as other cans in their price range. I'll also take IEMs over cans any day, but that's just me. Etymotics ftw

try something from Denon or Audio Technica!
I use the stock buds at work as they allow me to listen in on conversations of colleagues (meaning I can hear them when they try talking to me). If I want good sound away from home, I use a shure 215 se. There are pricier options, but for 100€ it's really great sound. At home I use a sennheiser MD 598 if I really want to have it like the musicians inteted their songs. But the sennheisers are open back and so sound gets out and my family is annoyed by that if they wantto watch TV. So I bought the Yamaha Pr 500. they are closed backs and almost don't leak sound, even if I use my Fiio alpen to crank it up. The Yamaha is a little tinted to the lower frequency side, but it sounds awesome to hear all the bass lines. And with EQ you van tweak the sound to your liking. But what I found is, that any over the ear headphones with big drivers really gives a much better sound stage. When using my big cans I almost always get back to live tracks over studio recordings, because it sounds as if you were standing in front of the stage. I recently had to thin out my music collection on SD card to make space for higher quality recordings. Now the minimum I use is 160 kbps and I have tracks up to 320. and the difference is amazing.
Sorry for this rather long post, but I hope you can get something out of it.

Agree. Headfi.org is great if you research audio stuff.
Another vote for head fi. Watch your wallet though. The headphone out on the Note 3 is very good. A high quality headphone is worth it. Personally I use a Vmoda m100 most of the time. It's a fantastic headphone if you like your bass. I also have a pair of Audiotechnica A900s which still sound amazing after 5 years since I purchased it. For ultimate portability I use Sennheiser IE8s which still blow me away with their bass and soundstage.
Good luck with your search. There are lots of good choices.

The output from the N3 is extremely good. If you're not feeling that then either you're using dodgy earphones or poor quality source material. Well recorded 24/96 audio through my Shure E3C earphones sounds pretty amazing.

Yes, definitely. These come with different size buds and stabilizers depending on your ear size. I don't even know I'm wearing these when working out for long periods of time. They have another version with volume controls and mic for $30 more.
Returned for a refund the Plantronics BackBeat Go 2 bluetooth headset because the buds were uncomfortable and popped out during movement.

You can use over the ear headphones with the N3 but I wouldn't recommend it. I tried my Sennheiser HD650s plugged into the N3 and they sounded okay but not great, problem is the N3 doesn't really have enough power to drive them. Through a headphone amp or external DAC they should be fine, I tried the N3->HLLY SMK-III DAC->Sennheiser HD650 and that sounded awesome.

I have the Bose IE use it all the time and they are honestly phenomenal. Excellent sound quality, great bass balance, crisp yet clear and not overpowering. They also hold up well when I go to the gym or bike and run. Beats are better for headphones, Bower and Wilkins are decent, the rest are in my humble opinion often not that good or the sound balance I'm looking for. Overall if you can try anything first I would otherwise, you won't regret the Bose IE.

Hey mate thanks. I just bought RHA earbuds . Model is RHA MA750i. They are truly amazing . Uk based brand. Sound is what i wanted. Bassy, isolation and loudness. I went for bose or beats. But was discouraged for beats and for bose the earbuds do not provide complete isolation because they are not designed that way. I know class of bose but i think they work on accoustic , clarity and it seems the person singing is next to u. But i like bassy witb clarity. These rha caused a damage of 150$ but ib think they are worth. In such competitive market they have bring out something nice. Atleast i am liking them and built quality is par excellence. The wire is too thick that it seems to be a solid piece of earbuds. I m happy though

$150? Buy 15 pairs of Sony ED12LPs off eBay.

I would say it's all about personal preference - everyone's sensitivity is different, also it depends on the music you listen to and your preference of sound.
Saying that, I usually try sennheiser before anything else since in my DJing days they always had the best noise-cancelling high-volume headphones for noisy environments. But their budget headphones were not good.
Possibly an out-dated saying but one that has stuck with me because I've always found it to be true: "No highs, no lows, must be Bose". Although that was usually about their speakers, not headphones.
The other professional brand is Shure, they have a long history in professional audio so while I haven't tried them, if I were you I would give it a go.
If you cannot try them out, I suggest finding the models you're thinking of getting in Amazon.co.uk - they almost always have a lot of reviews by people who have bought them in the past - check out all the ratings from the 1-stars to the 5-stars. I find the 1, 2 and 3 stars to be helpful. If more than 10% of the reviews are either 1 or 2 stars then it's a sign that they're not very good.

Best earphones under 100usd?

I am quite disappointed with the quality of headphones come with stock. I am music lover. Love rock song also some bollywood songs and some osho discourses. I love watching movies with surrounding effect. I have never bought any earphone before so please enlightened me with best quality and clarity with great bass ear phones. Also it must be convenient to wear for long time
Thanks
Check out bose they are comfy
try xiaomi piston 2, much much better compared to stock earphones.
AKG K323XS-a. Extremely small, light and comfortable, excellent sound. http://uk.akg.com/akg-product-detail_uk/k323xs-a-black.html
These are the only in-ear earphones I can wear for hours on end without getting a migraine or sore ears.
Bose is the Apple of the audio world. Overpriced and overhyped, with a very moderate quality. Don't waste your money on that.

Very few models will provide volume controls and working answer/start/pause button, so an option might be to get the stock headset (which is dirt-cheap on ebay, but indeed poor) and replace on the main cable just the speaker with something that you like how it sounds (in the reasonably low-cost segment - under 50 - I was very impressed with some older Panasonic earbuds, but sadly the newer low-cost models are no longer in the same quality range, and you have to move to the middle-to-high-cost segment to get the same quality).
One piece of advice i can give you: don't buy earphones that are made for iPhone(but this is what you will get if you want quality) for controls. MIC will work ok but controls will suck.
I have Skull Candy 50/50 or something. the controls are not fully.
For calls and music listening:
- Ultimate Ears 300vm or 500vm (both on heavily discounted at Amazon due to discontinuance) - 26 db isolation - great products/great performance (select Android versions) - both $23 (do not be afraid of the low price)
For working out, heavier use, more critical music listening (and can handle calls just fine with extra isolation that goes into the ear canal) use:
- Etymotic Research MC2 Earphones/Microphone - 35 db isolation - $69
- Etymotic Research HF2 Earphones/Microphone - 35 db isolation - $128
(- Etymotic Research HF5 Portable In-Ear Earphones (Cobalt) - 35 db isolation - $120 sorry these are only headphones))
I own the300vms. the HF2s. Upon seeing the reduced prices I bought more of the Ultimate Ears 300vms for business use (where I tend to lose them occasionally). I also bought a 500vm to try out and compare. I finally bought a higher end 600vm for my wife/son's ipod/ipads.
The controls on the headsets work as intended including mute. Not sure why other phones have issues unless they are ipod/ipad phones being used in Android environment or vice versa. Those have issues (microphone, buttons).
Not sure why they are discontinued but suspect marketing and distribution issues, ie lack of commitment to full UE line by Logitech who bought UE some time ago. Get them while available.
See here for more info:
UE: http://www.logitech.com/en-us/support/lue
Ety:http://www.etymotic.com/ephp/hscomp.html
PS...Both UE and Etymotic know 'ears', heaphones, primarily in the Pro Music market. They make the best products but just don't have the marketing hype of Beats, Bose, and other phones more freely available.
Yurbuds. I love mine, use them for running a lot and in general. Sweat resistant, great sound, a lot off different with mics, w/o mics, over the ear, in the ear, tangle free cords. That's just a few.

O yea and they are almost impossible to fall out if worn correctly.
Try the JVC fxt90 .they've been around a while now but I still believe they're really great for the price approx $75ish on amazon. I currently own them and they are extremely musical yet detailed. They have great reviews on other forums as well.
Klipsch S4a and Sol Republic Amps HD are my favorite buds under 100 and even over 100 to be honest
VSonic VC02. They were probably the best In ears I've heard. There is also an earphone review site somewhere where you can get a list of all the earphones, the reviews, and the prices.
I have to give soundmagic a good review with the e10 and e10m if you need a mic. Very good quality sound reproduction. Just get some comply tips for them and you will be surprised what you thought were good ear buds. Both under 50 USD.

As someone mentioned earlier I support the Xiaoumi Piston 2 headphones. The volume and Google now button work great as does the microphone. The sound qualty is really good IMO and I enjoy using then on my Asus Laptop, Note 3 and 2nd Gen Nexus 7.

Sennheiser or go home
Sennheiser 280 headphones, but you'll probably have to order them online or at a musical instrument store (selling guitars and microphones for example). I paid $110 Canadian for them, so they're probably $100 US or less. Best headphones I've ever used. But they're full-size, over-ear headphones. If you're an audio person, then don't waste your time or money on earbuds. To create sound (of any quality), a speaker needs to move air. It's not possible to get quality sound from a ¼" speaker, since it's too small to move enough air for quality sound.
The only downside (for some) is no Bluetooth on these headphones. But if you're looking for good audio quality at a price worth paying (Bose sounds good but it's just overpriced) then Sennheiser 280s are worth every penny.

Also depends if you want wired or bluetooth headphones. I have bluetooth headphones LG tone+ 700 and 800. Love both. 700's usually are 50 bucks or 800's will run you higher right at that 100 dollar range. I find that they have great audio quality, (the 800's are better) and the charge lasts for 8 hours and you don't have the whole cord thing to deal with. I exercise with them and use them for my daily commute. To deal with calls, the sound quality is good and i don't get any complaints. I'm able to use the buttons on the neck wrap (this thing lays around the base of your neck) and it works well for forwarding tracks or going back tracks. The volume control works fine and answering calls are fine. Just thought you might be interested.

if u r looking for one with a good mic , i'll suggest sennheiser mm 30g 60bucks
Xiaomi piston 2.0
Don't be fooled by the price. They sound extremely good and are very durable. All the controls work on our phone.
Just make sure you buy from an authorized reseller, as you don't want to end up with a fake copy.
